Sonic Boom - Prologue
#1 of Sonic Boom
I am marking this story as adult even though there is really only like one sentence referencing a kind of sexual act because I don't really know how strict SF is with that kind of stuff and I really don't want to take any chances. Plus, I am already working on more chapters and they are gonna have more adult themes in them so might as well use that as a warning XD Really excited to do these series of stories so please please please! Give me critiques! Give me comments! I want to get better! :D Now, please enjoy!
Adrian
----------------------------------------------------------------Age 13-----------------------------------------------------------------
"Such a pretty girl." The red haired fox spoke softly to the child laying their head down into his lap. The fox had on a bleach white lab coat, slacks, and a white shirt underneath the lab coat. His eyes were locked onto the child below him, but there was no life behind those eyes. His cheeks appeared to have sunken slightly, and his hair was matted and mangy.
The child below him, was also a fox. This fox was nothing like the man petting their head. The young fox was healthy looking and had bright red thick hair. The only thing the two foxes shared was the dead look in their eyes.
"So beautiful... My little girl..." The older fox kept whispering, much to the disgust of the younger fox.
"Why does he do this?" The young fox thought to themselves. "I'm not who he thinks. I'm a boy. Everyone else in the lab says I am. Everyone but him."
A knock came from the door of the room. "Dr. Solomon! Your presence is needed in the Chemicals Lab," A stern female voice came from behind the door.
The older fox gazed at the door sadly for a few seconds until he responded, "I will be there in five!"
"Alright sir."
The younger fox got up out of the older fox' s lap and put on a pair of black short shorts and a white tube top that only covered up the boy's chest area, which the elder fox always made him wear. "Sir," The young fox spoke softly.
"When will we break you of that habit? I told you to call me 'dad,'" The older fox still sat on the bed they were occupying seconds earlier. His voice was hard and sick.
"Sorry... Dad... I was just wondering if it was alright if I walked around the lab some while you worked?" The young fox looked at the ground as he spoke, afraid to look at the man who was trying to turn him into his daughter.
"Why? Do you not like it in my room?" The young fox knew what was about to happen. Solomon was unstable today. "What happened? You used to always want to stay in my room. What changed? I know you've grown, but you aren't that much older now. Not that much could have changed." By this point, Solomon had made his way off the bed and was holding onto the child by his shoulders, shaking him violently. Solomon's eyes were wide and wild.
The young fox was whimpering in fear as Solomon assaulted him, tears flying off his fur with every shake. He should have just kept his mouth shut. But salvation was waiting just outside the door and it came rushing in, in the form of a female raccoon dressed in a white lab coat and glasses.
"DR. SOLOMON! LET HIM GO!" The female doctor who had spoken to them earlier ripped Solomon away from the child.
"LET ME GO! THIS IS BETWEEN MY CHILD AND ME!"
"HE IS NOT YOUR CHILD!" At the moment the lab assistant said this, Dr. Solomon became lifeless. "He isn't Bridgette. He is Adrian. When will you understand that?" The raccoon doctor relaxed her voice after Solomon had calmed down.
"You said they needed me in the Chemical lab?" Solomon's voice had taken on a more stern tone.
"Yes sir." She said as she let go of the doctor. The young boy relaxed also as he realized Solomon's emotions were stabilizing.
"Thank you Margareta. Adrian. You are free to roam wherever you wish. Just obey the rules, and you must be escorted by Margareta at all times. Do you understand me?"
"Yes sir." Adrian was finally able to look at the doctor without fear.
After the doctor had gone, Adrian and Margareta walked around the laboratory. Other lab assistants nodded courteously at the boy as he walked by. Not long into their walk, Adrian started talking to the raccoon.
"Miss Margareta? Why does he call me Bridgette? Why does he think I'm his daughter?" This was something that had always bothered the young boy. He had asked this question multiple times, hoping eventually he would get an answer he could make sense of.
"I've told you before. You really do look a lot like his daughter. I think he made you purposely like that."
"Will I ever be aloud to leave Miss Margareta?" For as long as the young boy could remember, he was restricted to this laboratory.
"Adrian, I promise you that one day, I will take you out and show you the outside world." Adrian and Margareta had stopped their walk, and Margareta had dropped to one knee and held the young boy.
"Miss Margareta. I broke a rule the other day." Adrian admitted.
"What? Adrian, if Dr. Solomon ever learns of this you could get in big trouble! What rule was it?" Margareta held Adrian away from her and looked at him sternly.
"I... I learned about the outside world. It was the other day when I was studying. I was able to find some video clips about children my age. Miss Margareta. I want to be like them. I want to go to parties, and movies, and libraries, and all the normal teenage stuff. Miss Margareta. I am ready to leave here." Margareta understood the boy's request.
"Adrian, we could get into a lot of trouble for this. Neither of us could ever return here. You understand that right?"
"Miss Margareta. I don't want to go another day with that man molesting me. I understand, I am a genetic experiment, but I am still a living thing, and I deserve the life that all the other children have the right to." Adrian held onto Margareta's eyes with a fire that she had never seen before in the boy. She had taken over a mother role in Adrian's life, and she knew he was right. It was time for him to leave this place, he had no future here, and everyone knew that.
"Adrian. Go to your room and pack only what you need. You understand? We can't afford to get weighed down. Dr. Solomon will be busy in the Chemicals Lab for a while, and I don't know when we will have the free time to attempt this again. Meet me in my room as soon as you're done. Now hurry." Adrian took his cue. It wasn't but a few minutes until he was standing outside Margareta's door with a small back pack with only clothes and a single stuffed animal tucked inside of it.
Margareta also wasted no time, before long she was standing outside her door with a suit case of her belongings that she felt she needed. She looked down at the fox and nodded her head. Adrian replied with a similar nod. She then handed Adrian a small purple sac. She explained that what was inside of it was very important, and ordered Adrian to keep it in his backpack. Adrian agreed, and they began walking to the exit.
The actual process of leaving the laboratory wasn't difficult. With Margareta having all the necessary ID's to open any and all doors, the difficult part was going to be confronting the guard. As they made their way to the exit other doctors and assistants looked at the pair and all of them understood what was happening. None of them made an effort to stop the duo, however. They knew this was what was best, and chose to ignore what they saw. Some nodded in acceptance; others smiled at the boy and would tip their heads graciously towards Margareta.
"Hello Marg," Said the guard standing watch at the door; a Doberman with a strong build and broad shoulders. As Margareta and Adrian walked towards the guard, he relaxed. "What do we have going on here?"
"We are leaving Max. You are either with me or against me on this. Either way, we are leaving." The two looked at each other for more time than seemed necessary to Adrian. Adrian knew that the two used to be married, but he wasn't sure what caused them to divorce, or if their past involvement would hinder his escape.
"Marg. I am neither with you nor against you. I will let you leave. But the second you do, I am pulling the alarm."
"Please Max give us a little time to make it into the woods. You know if you pull the alarm that early on this boy doesn't stand a chance." The Doberman pondered this fact for a few seconds before answering.
"I will give you two minutes. Make them count." Max stood to the side and used his key card to open the door for the two. Adrian ran outside embracing his freedom, while Margareta lingered for a few seconds.
"I wish you were this understanding during our time together."
"I wish you would have done this a lot earlier. Maybe then, you could have had the family you always wanted."
"Good bye Max. I still love you."
"And I still love you too Margareta." Margareta was already walking past Max as he spoke to her. The door closed as he ended his sentence and the countdown began.
Margareta and Adrian started running into the forest. They knew it wasn't the fastest way to escape, but there would be less chance of being caught. They heard the alarms of the laboratory go off as they got half way through the woods. Max had given them more time than he had promised, and Margareta silently thanked him.
Not long after the alarms started airing, Adrian and Margareta picked up on the sounds of search dogs barking. They were still far behind, but the sound of them filled the pair with enough adrenaline to make them more than double their speed.
As they ran, Margaret attempted to explain the escape route. "Ok Adrian, not much longer, and we will hit an empty field. Past that field is a small town, we need to get to the train station and go to a city called 'Vapaus'. That is where we will live. Do you understand? I have a friend there, Tanya. I have already called her and she will meet us at the train station. Now, Adrian, in the event that something happens and we get separated, I gave you everything you will need to make the journey on your own. In that bag I gave you, there is money for the train; it also has an ID card for you. Do you understand?"
"Yes Miss Margaret. Let's hurry! I can hear the dogs catching up." They remained quiet as they ran. They could hear the dogs getting closer, but soon, the trees started thinning out, and they were in the field Margareta had mentioned.
Margareta started to slow down and eventually had to come to a stop to catch her breath. "Miss Margareta! Come on! They are catching up!" Adrian had kept running but stopped as to leave the Raccoon behind. As she started back on her run though, she tripped. Falling onto the ground, and in turn, spraining her ankle. "MISS MARGARETA!" Adrian started to run back towards his comrade.
"NO! Adrian! They are too close! Keep running! Don't look back!" Adrian stared blankly at Margareta as she pleaded. He then looked up and could see the dogs running towards them from the woods. He looked down at Margareta one last time before turning around and running towards the village.
He could hear the dogs barking and the screams of Margareta as he ran, but he tuned them out, keeping the memory of his mother figure telling him to continue strong in his mind. When she had fallen and knew of her fate, she didn't look helpless, but strong. Adrian wasn't going to forget her strength. So he kept running, all the way into town, and then to the train station. He wouldn't stop running. He would not get caught.
"One ticket to Vapaus sir!" Adrian commanded as he slammed his money onto the teller's desk.
"You're a little young to be riding alone aren't you child?" The turtle standing behind the desk noted.
"Please sir! I need to get there now!" Adrian was all but screaming at the turtle.
"Alright child, calm down! Here is your ticket. You're train leaves in five minutes."
"Thank you sir!" As Adrian turned the turtle noticed something. On the young fox's right shoulder blade was a mark, an area where the fox's fur was a dark brown as opposed to red. The dark fur took the shape of the number six, but an old style of the number, like what you would see on an old digital clock.
"Hold on child! You. You came from that laboratory didn't you?" Adrian stopped as asked, but was filled with fear. "That mark on your back. I saw similar when I worked up there. I know what you are. And your secret is safe with me. Margareta told me all about you, and that one day we might meet. Now hurry child! I will order the conductor to leave as soon as you get on."
Adrian stared at the turtle for a second. "Thank you sir and Miss Margareta thanks you too." And with that, Adrian hurriedly made his way onto the train, which took off on the tracks as soon as Adrian took his seat, just as the turtle had promised.
Adrian thought about Margareta as the train moved. He knew he had to keep her memory alive, and to live for her. He looked down at the stuffed animal he had brought with him, a grey wolf, with blue marble eyes that Margareta had given him in secret. He closed his eyes and prepared himself for the future. It was time for his life to begin.
