Prisoner of War - Captured

Gunshots were heard in the distance as the two sides fought for supremacy. The humans and the furs of this country never saw eye to eye and now they're at war with each other. Devyn was running from the humans as he was an unarmed civilian in the city of Wintergroove.

His family, he didn't know where they were. His friends, mostly dead. And as for him, he was just trying to avoid being killed by the oncoming humans. The wolf hid in an abandoned building and panted as he tried to figure out how far he had run. After a quick glance at his watch, he saw he had been running non stop for over an hour.

"Why did this war have to start?" Devyn muttered while running a paw through his midnight black fur. He had hoped that living in a small city at the far corner of the nation would help him avoid the war, but it didn't. It only made things worse.

Just as he was about to get up and keep moving he heard some voices. "You three, over there, and you two check that building." one of the voices said in a commanding tone.

The other voices all replied with "Yes, Sir."

'The front door's no good,' Devyn though as he looked around and found a staircase. 'Maybe if I can make it into the attic I'll be able to avoid them.' he added to his train of thought as he ran upstairs and looked for a staircase or ladder to the attic. "Thank you." he muttered, as he opened a door and it had a staircase going up into the attic. Without looking back he quickly slipped upstairs.

There were footsteps in the second floor hallway and one of the soldiers turned to the other. "Look at this. Those freaks are trying to mimic our way of life." he said as he punched a picture frame on the wall, shattering the glass. "Don't you think they're freaks too Jason?" he added to his partner.

"Huh? Oh, maybe." Jason replied, not looking at his partner. Jason was distracted from his original thoughts by his partner and was kind upset because he was tracking something. "There's someone in here, just came by recently too." Jason spoke up, noticing the paw prints on the ground displacing the dust that was layered everywhere.

"Oh? Human or other?" his partner inquired.

"Other." Jason answered, opening the door to the attic. Devyn heard the door open and ducked down, hoping that if he stayed hidden, they'll leave. He wasn't that lucky as the prick of a soldier called out.

"We know you're up here, now just give yourself up." Jason was continuing to follow the paw prints in the dust and was led right to the large wardrobe that was near a window.

"I know you're in here, just come quietly and we won't have to shoot you." Jason said softly just before opening the door and spotting the dark furred wolf. "I got him!" Jason called to his partner as he grabbed the wolf by his arm and then quietly added to the wolf. "Just come with us and don't try to escape. If you're lucky you'll be kept alive."

Devyn frowned but nodded as he climbed out of the wardrobe and looked at the two soldiers. Their uniforms were standard issue for the nation's army. Nothing out of the ordinary about them, until he looked at his captor's eyes. Jason had feline eyes, even though he was human. Devyn looked down and then muttered to Jason. "Well, I hope they do keep me alive. I would like to see those eyes of yours again someday."

The prick came over and quickly tied Devyn's paws at the wrist behind the wolf's back. Devyn growled but a quick glance from Jason and he quieted down, allowing himself to be captured as it was his only chance for surviving. He knew that should he try to run, the soldiers will not hesitate to gun him down.

Three days later Devyn awakes in his containment area, not so much a prison cell as a bedroom with nothing in it but a bed and a small chest of drawers for his clothes. The room had no bars, but had no windows and only one door.

He had only seen the door open once in the three days he was imprisoned there, and that was when they first put him there. Devyn looked at the small slot at the bottom of the door where they slip the food in for him to survive, if you could even call it food, and frowned.

Devyn went back to laying down as he thought about what will happen to him, captured by those that seeking to destroy his kind. Suddenly the door opened and a soldier walked in. "Devyn Morris?" the soldier inquired, to make sure he got the right room.

"Yeah." Devyn said, sitting up.

"You're coming with me." the soldier said as he pulled a collar out of his bag and put it on Devyn's neck, then followed that up with handcuffs to keep the wolf's arms behind his back.

Devyn knew that his fate lay at the other end of the leash that was being clipped to his collar and frowned as he was brought to an office with one of the higher ranked officers.

"Mr. Devyn Morris. Age, 22. Height: 6'2. Weight: 210 pounds. Species: Wolf. Fur color: Black." the officer read from a sheet that was in his hand. "You are lucky to have been captured instead of killed, Mr. Morris. Had I or any of my squad found you, you would've been dead. Now, tell me, Do you know why you're here?"

"Because you and your kind are trying to eliminate me and mine." Devyn said calmly. He knew that if he should snap or retort to this officer, he'll be feeling it for a week from some random punishment.

"That's why I would've shot you, but it's not why you are here. You are here at the request of the soldier that captured you." The officer said, Devyn's expression changing from neutral to inquisitive. "He has requested to have you given to him as a pet." The officer added, chuckling.

"For some odd reason, my superiors allowed it. You will be brought to him and be his pet. Any signs of you trying to escape and we will be forced to kill you. Do you understand, Mr. Morris?" The officer grinned like a Cheshire cat as the thought of being made into a pet sunk into Devyn's mind.

"Understood." the wolf muttered, frowning. Just like that, his freedom was gone, he was no longer a free person to do as he pleases. Devyn was now someone else's property.

Devyn was returned to his previous holding chamber after that meeting and has been there for over a week now. His new owner hasn't been over to pick him up.

"I wish they would at least give me a book to read. I'm bored out of my mind." he mutters, barely able to do anything but lay in bed, pace, and use his mind to think up stories.

"If only my so called 'owner' would show up and get me out of this stupid tank of a room." he added as he looked around at the bare walls.

The black wolf sighed softly and a tray of food was slid into the room. He looked over and noticed that, for once, it had something worth eating. A small rack of ribs, a baked potato, and a salad.

Also on the tray was a bottle of soda that was laying down and a note. Devyn opened the note and read it out loud.

"Dear Devyn, I am glad that you're alright and I heard that they'll allow you to survive as my pet. I will be coming by later to pick you up. You should receive this note with a full meal which I requested for you. I hope you enjoy it. Jason Davis"

Devyn looked at the food and smiles as he picks the tray up and puts it on his bed and sits down. He started eating and before he even realized it all the food was gone. At first he was confused then he realized how full he felt and understood that he ate it all without noticing.

A smile spread across his muzzle as he put the tray on the floor and laid down to rest. He hasn't been this full since before he was captured.

The door opened and in walked Jason, in slightly more casual clothes than he wore the day that Devyn saw him last. Jason was about 6'0 and built enough that he can be imposing to most enemy troops. Jason smiled down at the resting wolf and sat down at the edge of the bed.

Devyn rolled over and curled up, just inches away from the human that was to be his owner. "Devyn, wake up." Jason had leaned over and whispered into the wolf's ear.

Devyn woke up slowly, looking into the beautiful feline eyes of his owner. "I take it that you're here to claim your pet?" Devyn muttered as he slowly stretched out.

"No, I'm here to claim a friend, and possible ally in ending this stupid war." Jason replied, smiling. He lightly petted the wolf's chest and gestured toward the door. "Come on, lemme bring you to my quarters." he added, pulling a collar out of his pocket and strapping it around Devyn's neck and attaching a leash to it.

Devyn started to fidget with the collar and Jason just adjusted it slightly so that way it'll be more comfortable for his friend. "Let's go." Jason said getting up.

"But what about my stuff?" Devyn asked.

"Leave it, I doubt you'll want to wear that military issued stuff anyway. You look about my size, I'll lend you some of my civilian clothes." Jason smiled as he pulled lightly on the leash and Devyn regretfully followed.

Devyn was led through the military base, wearing nothing as that's how he was when Jason came to get him. This was probably not the best idea as every time they passed a soldier, cruel remarks were made because of it. Jason just ignored the other soldiers as he led the wolf through the corridors.

"Jason," Devyn said quietly when none of the other soldiers were around. "Why did the humans start this war?"

Jason stopped and turned around, pulling the leash tighter and the wolf closer to him. "We will talk about that in my quarters." he said sternly before letting the leash slack and started walking again.

***

Jason's quarters were relatively large compared to the tiny room that Devyn was in before. There was a computer on a desk with a full work station, a TV, a full sized bed, and a cot, among other things. Jason locked the door to the quarters and took the leash off of Devyn.

"They gave me the cot for you to sleep on, I doubt we'll need that though, I'll gladly share my bed, it's more than large enough." he said as Devyn looked at the cot disapprovingly.

The wolf looked over and smiled. Jason wasn't like the other humans, he was caring and actually nice. Devyn sat down next to Jason, who lightly wrapped his arms around the wolf. "What's going to happen to me?" Devyn asked, resting his head on Jason's shoulder.

"I will protect you and keep you safe. That's what's going to happen." Jason said, smiling a bit as he lightly kissed the wolf on the head. Devyn knew that Jason wasn't lying about that and that made him happy.

"What about all the other furs out there? How can we end this war and save them?" Devyn inquired, his ears flat against his head as he thought about his brother and his parents.

"I don't know Devyn, but I do know that I wish to try and save them too. And maybe to meet your family when this is all over." Devyn moved out of the embrace and looked at Jason when he heard that.

"What do you mean by that?" he asked, almost a bit worried that the human soldier already knew his secret.

"Just that I would think a wolf like you would have a nice family who would worry about you and would like to meet the one that saved you." Jason wasn't sure why the wolf was so scared all of a sudden but he dismissed it for the time being.

"This war is going to go on for a long time, isn't it Jason?" Devyn looked up at Jason, his face showing his sadness at the fact that he may never see his family again. Jason knew how the wolf felt. He too was separated from his family by this war, and has not been able to see them since.

"I don't know, I just don't know." Jason said, trying to calm the wolf. "It's late, we should get some sleep." Jason said, getting up and pulling off his shirt.

Devyn just stared in awe as the medium build human revealed more and more of his body. By the time Jason sat back down on the bed wearing just his boxers, Devyn's jaw was hanging slack.

Jason saw this and kissed the wolf on the cheek to snap him out of his shocked state. "Come on now, I need to sleep and it'll be easier if you crawl into bed too." Devyn shook his head and climbed onto the bed, laying on the far side with his back to the wall, his eyes glued to his owner.

Jason smiled and shook his head, sliding under the covers and turning so his back was to the wolf. "Good night, Devyn." he said as the wolf curled up next to him, his breath on Jason's back softly.
