Sweet and Sassy Ava

Drako walked down the street of the large city, passing by other Furs trying his best to be unseen. This was just another job, he told himself over and over as he passed by large buildings. He just couldn't get past the feel he got every time he entered one of these concrete forests. Even after a few years of living his new life he still tried to avoid them. No one here ever seemed to care who you were or what you did. You just got up, got into your car, and went to work. It was a never ending cycle of boredom.

He missed the forest, the fresh air, the rivers, the hunts, his family. He put a hand up to his left eye feeling over the jagged three claw scar that was a reminder of his old life and his old power. He used to be feared as one of the strongest wolves in the world. He saved it a number of times, and almost destroyed it too. Now he felt like he was nothing. He was being punished for letting things get out of control like they did.

"I have to stop doing this to myself. That life is over you're here now and you have a job to do." He told himself as he stopped in front of a large skyscraper with the words Furcon Express Inc. on it

He walked into the front door and up to the receptionist, a tall cheetah with long black hair. She smiled at him saying "Hello sir, how can I help you today?"

"I'm here to see Mr. Snow."

Her smile faded a little bit as she said "And who may I ask are you? Mr. Snow is a busy man and sees Fur's by appointment only."

"I'm Drako, he called me and told me to be here at 8 o'clock sharp." Said Drako, doing his best to keep his temper in check.

She looked down at her computer and typed for a moment then said "I show a Draco Johnson and a Draco Alenberg what one are you sir."

"I'm neither I'm Drako Wolf, D-R-A-K-O." he said spelling out his first name.

"Oh I see I see you here you're the gun for hire guy I have heard about aren't you?"

"I don't like being called that ma'am. Now is he here so I can see what he wants or not."

She frowned then picked up her phone dialed a couple of numbers then said "A Mr. Wolf is here to see you Mr. Snow." She waited a moment then said again "Ok I'll send him right up" she hung up the phone then said to him "He can see you right away. But are you sure you want to go up there dressed like that? Mr. Snow likes when people have meetings with him more dressed up."

He looked down at his black t-shirt and jeans then said "If he doesn't like it he doesn't have to see me. He called me, I didn't come to see him about working for him in this crap company."

"Ah I see well just take the elevator behind the desk here. It only goes up to his office on the top floor." She walked over and swiped a card through a reader and in a couple of minutes the door opened.

He walked by her and into the elevator. The doors closed and he was on his way up. He crossed his arms as he waited. The music in the elevator was the same as any other he was in. He frowned and sighed "It's just another job...only for a much bigger client. You need this so don't blow it."

The elevator came to a stop and opened to a large office. He walked out onto a polished hard wood floor, looking around he saw a beautiful wood décor, art that had to cost a fortune hanging from the walls, a large wooden desk with a high backed leather chair was on the other end with a large class window behind it. Sitting in the chair was a tall, fat, and fierce looking snow leopard. He stood as Drako walked into the office slowly making his way toward the desk.

He smiled and said in a deep booming voice "Ah Mr. Wolf it's a pleasure to meet you at last. I hope Cindy didn't give you too much trouble getting up here. I'm normally a busy male so they don't normally let anyone up here."

"Please call me Drako, Mr. Wolf doesn't sound right to me."

"I can see how that can be a bit ironic when you yourself are a wolf. Please sit I called you here because I do have a job for you." Said Mr. Snow, indicating a chair in front of his desk.

Drako sat moving his long tail out of the way. He leaned back in the chair and folded his arms glaring at the leopard. He had never really liked felines too much. They were always too sneaky for his taste. It seemed they always had a bigger goal than what they would tell you.

He shook his head and reminded himself that he needed this job then relaxed his face some then said "So Mr. Snow when you called me you said you had a job that was extremely important. It couldn't even wait the normal week or more for me to get ready for like I would normally do. So what kind of job do you have that requires me to get up so early and walk ten miles into the city."

He smiled sitting back down himself and said "Well I know it was kind of last minute but I really didn't know where else to turn you see. I saw your add in the paper the other day and I do remember hearing a while back about you on the news. You see, I am a really important Fur in this country, my company takes in billions of dollars a year. Because of that other companies or the mob want my money so it puts me and my family in danger quite a lot. Normally I would have body guards but..."

Drako chuckled and said "You need me to be your bodyguard, is that what you're saying, because I really don't see how that is a job that would be any interest for me."

"I'm not saying I need one. I have my own body guards so I don't I'm not worried about that at all. But you see my daughter, Ava has to travel to Port City and well, recently there have been a few threats on her life that the police haven't taken seriously. My own body guards are good but they do better in numbers and I need her to travel in a low key way. So I need one Fur to guard her on her trip to Port City. I would pay you well." He said with a smug look on his face

Drako sighed and said "You want me to baby sit some brat nosed kid for you and make sure she doesn't hurt herself, why can't you just stick her on a plane and be done with it."

He growled a bit and said "She is twenty-one years old and she doesn't do well on planes. Also I don't trust the airlines at the moment. Trust me this job will pay you well. You won't have to worry about money for a long time."

"Fine but she has to do as I say and follow my rules as I take her down to Port City. It's only a four day trip I'm sure not much can go wrong in such a short time. Wire the money to this account, I take half up front the other half when the job is done." Said Drako handing him a card with account numbers on it

"I'm fine with that" he picked up his phone and dialed a few numbers then said "Ava, would you mind coming up here for a moment please."

After a couple of minutes the elevator opened again and out stepped a young female snow leopard. She was tall and skinny with long brown hair, long legs, and bright violet eyes. She had on a beautiful black dress that went well with her blue grey fur on her back and the ice blue fur on her front. Her spots were the normal black but the inside of the spots that would normally be the same as the rest of her blue grey fur was instead a mix pattern of light pink, yellow, and orange. There was also a dark purple line you could just see coming up between her breasts over the top of them and then back down her sides like a border between the blue grey and the ice blue fur.

Drako felt a tight feeling in his chest as she walked closer to him her sweet scent washing over him like a tidal wave. He shook his head and looked down at his feet trying to figure out what just happened. She walked right past him not even giving him a second glance and stood next to her father's desk tapping her foot.

She then said in a voice like silk "Yes father, what is it? I was just about to meet with Alice and Taylor for lunch."

Mr. Snow cleared his throat and said in his deep voice "Ava, my dear you remember the talk we had about you going to Port City right? Well Mr. Wolf here...I mean, Drako, is going to be escorting you."

She turned and looked at him for the first time her face looked like he repulsed her as she said "This mutt is going to escort me? Father, he looks like a thug, and also I don't need a body guard you take those threats to seriously. You've been getting them ever since I was a baby and nothing has ever happened."

"Now listen to me young lady..." started Mr. Snow but Drako cut him off with a growl

"I'll have you know you stupid little brat, that I am a wolf not a mutt. And I am no thug I'm probably the best guard you'll find in the world. And I don't have to take shit from you no matter how much money your father is paying me to keep your pretty feline ass safe." He said then turned to Mr. Snow "I don't need this, sorry I couldn't help." And he turned to leave.

"Wait please Drako." Said Mr. Snow then he turned to his daughter "Drako is the best, and you know this time the threat is quite real or do I have to remind you what happened to your uncle last month. I won't have my family taken from me again. You'll let him escort you and do as he says until you get to Port City or so help me I'll cut off your trust fund for good."

Her eyes gave off a chilling look of shock for a good three seconds then the look vanished and was replaced by amusement "I guess I can put up with the K-9 for a few days. But I'm only doing it for you daddy and not because of the money." She then looked over to Drako and said "So then I guess we should just get going now I had my bags packed already and they are in my car. So shall we be off? The sooner this is over with the better."

Drako growled again then sighed "You better be paying me well for this." And with that he followed her into the elevator and down to a parking garage.

Her car was what you would expect from a rich girl like her. It was small and looked fast. Drako felt himself telling himself over and over "you need this" and it was true. He didn't know how much this new life required you to have money. His rent was behind by three months, he owed some guy quite a lot for setting him up with the advertising for his company, and on top of that he needed to buy his food since this world didn't have good hunting.

"I'll be driving so just get into the car and keep your mouth shut I really want to get this over with." Said Ava, walking up to the door key in hand

Drako walked up and snatched it from her hand holding it up high out of her reach then said "I know you don't like this any more than I do, but can we at least try to be a bit nicer to each other. You don't know who I am and I really don't know anything about you. I really don't want to put up with this for the next week."

She smiled "All I see is a poor wolf who has to take odd jobs to keep food on this table. I don't normally associate myself with low lives like yourself. I mean look at you, you're dressed like a bum, your hair is long and all over the place, and where in god's name did you get such a bad scar. For all I know you were in a gang or some kind of prison."

"I have never been in prison and I'm no bum I promise you...I just don't know how to dress properly like you Fur's all do. But enough of that you will drive yes but your taking us to my place so I can get my stuff. I'm not going to leave town without some stuff." He looked at her heard holding the key's still.

She glared at him then sighed and said "Whatever just give me the keys so we can get out of here."

He handed them to her and sat in the front seat leaning back then saying "My place is on the edge of town." He handed her one of his cards with his office address on it.

She took it and started the car without a word. She took off from the parking spot quickly picking up speed. She flew up the ramp and into traffic her car zipping by other cars in a flash. Drako could feel his adrenalin building but he didn't let it show on his body. He really didn't like cars either, yes he could drive one but he preferred to walk if he could.

With the way she was driving it only took them five minutes to get to his office slash apartment. He took the key again from the ignition and got out of the car saying "Stay here I'll be right back."

"Hey that's my key who said..." she started but he turned and glared at her and she shut her mouth "ok got it...stay here...sorry."

A moment later Drako pulled up behind her car in a beat up old ford. He got out and popped the trunk of her car with the key he took form her. He walked over and took the bags from the trunk and placed them in the trunk of the ford. All this time she was trying to unbuckle yelling something about not getting into a beat up POS like that.

"This is a car my friend is letting me use for this trip. I'm here to keep you safe and if anyone is really out to get you they'll know what your car looks like this way we can get there faster and with less hassle. Don't worry your father will pick up your car later I have already told him I would be taking this."

"I just don't think that thing looks safe is all."

"But I want to know..." She started to yell but as she did there was a boom noise and the car started to swerve back and forth. Drako wrenched on the wheel, pulling the car to the shoulder. He stopped the car and sighed.

"Looks like we got a flat, just stay in the car it will only take me a moment to change the tire." He said getting out of the car.

"Ok, but don't take too long its dark out and getting late. I want to be able to go to bed soon." She said resting her head on the head rest.

Drako growled then walked around the passenger door opening it quickly saying "Get out of the car now."

"What I'm sorry ok you can take your time I didn't mean to offend the great wolf." She said looking at him.

Drako's face was not angry but fearful. He looked her in the eye and said "Get out now we have to get out of here." He ran to the back of the car opening up the trunk pulling out a small black bag then shutting it again pocketing his keys.

"What's wrong Drako?"

"Look at the flat tire." He pointed at it

She looked and saw that the tire was melted away and the rim had melted too. It looked like someone has set the tire and rim on extremely hot fire. She gasped and said "What did that?"

"Somefur with a power. It looks like they may have a kind of fire power. I have seen this kind of damage before my former mate was a fire weaver. We need to run into the woods right now. It looks like it will rain soon and the wet will help keep us safe from him and the trees will keep us hidden I'm hoping."

And so they went moving through the woods quickly. Drako didn't let her arm go the entire time they were walking. As Drako said the Rain started to fall a good ten minutes later and it only got worse. Soon the trees seemed to be everywhere and everything was wet and muddy. Ava was wet, dirty, and pissed off by the time they had been walking for three hours and finally she pulled her arm out of his grasp and stopped walking.

"This is stupid Drako lets go back to the car no one is following us if they were I'm sure they would have found us by now."

Drako looked around sniffing the air his long tail twitching then he relaxed and said "Yeah I don't smell or hear anything anymore. But we can't go back to the car just yet."

"Well why not?"

"Because it's a long walk, first of all and second we don't know if the person who was after us is still out there. We'll find a cave or something nearby and stay there for the night" said Drako pointing toward a rocky projection.

"I don't like this one bit you know."

Drako sighed and started to walk "And you were doing so good too. Here I thought I may get the real you out of that snooty little female. Well it doesn't matter what you say or think Kitty. We are sleeping in a cave, it's much better than sleeping in the rain."

She ran up next to him and was about to yell at him again when there was a flash and a crack in the sky. She jumped and took hold of his arm shivering "I guess it would be better than out here."

They made it up the rocky projection easily enough. There was a small cave with a large over hang that kept the rain form falling to close to the mouth of the cave. They walked in and settled down, Drako set down his black back and opened it slowly pulling out a couple of blankets. Then he took off his shirt and hung it up on a rock sticking out from the wall.

"And what am I going to do with my cloths my dress is soaked, dirty, and torn in a few places." Said Ava

He pulled out a large shirt from his bag and some gym shorts tossing them to her, "Here put that on it's my extra emergency ones and I don't mind sleeping without a shirt."

"It so baggy though."

"Drako, why do you act like such a hard ass when in reality you're a sweet male?"

He turned his head back to her his hair covering his face "It's just in my nature I guess. I don't like to see people hurting or suffer. But at the same time I have to keep my guard up it's the only thing that has kept me alive for so long. So tell me, why do you act like such a bitch when I can tell you don't like it at all?"

He smiled back saying "Yeah that's true but there is a lot more to the story than that. But let's just leave it where it is for now ok."

He let a smile pull at his lips for a moment then just as suddenly as it came, it was gone and he stood up saying "Well let's get some sleep. We have a long day tomorrow trying to walk back to the car and making sure that that guy isn't following us anymore."

He just shrugged and went over to the corner of the cave, laying down on a couple of blankets he had in his bag "Good night Ava."

"I have a bit of money saved up. If you wanted to get away from that city and maybe get a nice place in the forest in a new town for your job, then maybe I could come live with you there." She said this while looking away blushing more.

He laughed "You just met me and now you want to move in with me. Kind of fast don't you think?"

He could hear a creek near him so he went to go toward it, when in the bushes behind him a twig snapped. He turned around then ducked quickly as a knife flew over his head. He looked up seeing a tall fox with a couple of throwing knives in one hand his fur red as blood. He has markings on his back that looked a lot like his friend Nik's.

"That's not a nice way of saying hello you know." He said to the fox.

"You're as fast as they said Drako Wolf. Funny I didn't think someone of your size could move like that. But no matter, the next one will take you down don't worry."

"What's your name fox." Said Drako ignoring him.

"Doesn't matter, you'll be dead anyway." Said the fox and he throw another knife that once again Drako dodged.

"Listen, it's not a smart idea to do that to me you know. I may not be as powerful as I used to be but I still have enough power to take you down."

"Shut your mouth wolf and tell me how you dodged that. You know what, no matter this will work I'm sure of it." Said the fox moving his hands up.

Without warning a ball of fire shot from the fox's hand and this time Drako had a harder time dodging it. The fox laughed at him, setting the brush behind him on fire. Drako knew that if he didn't take this fox out he would set the woods on fire. He hated to have to use his gifts, but it was the only way. As the fox shot another large fire ball at him Drako's eyes glowed blood red.

For only a moment the fox could see the grin on his face, then in an instant Drako vanished, then he was in front of the fox. The fox saw his face for a moment then Drako punched him in the gut sending him flying fifty feet before he hit a tree. The fox could tell his ribs were broken and he couldn't move to get up.

Drako was there in a second again and he lifted the fox up by the neck growling "Who sent you?"

The fox whimpered then said "How...did you move so fast...and how did you get so strong?"

"A gift from my son and daughter. The only thing of them I have left, now tell me who sent you?"

"They wanted the girl, and you dead...that was all they said."

"Who are they?"

The fox giggled saying "My people are all over the worlds you know...We will find your family soon and you next. Soon you'll all die and we'll be back on the top. One day we will rule the worlds again." Then before Drako could say anything a red portal opened behind the fox and he was pulled into it.

Drako tried to grab the fox again but he was gone, leaving Drako in the middle of the woods with a little fire behind him. He punched a tree knocking it over with a loud crash yelling "FUCK! Why is it always me!"

"Drako? What happened out here?"

He turned to see Ava walking out of the cave looking at the small fire and the downed tree. He sighed and said "Don't worry about it, it was only they guy who was following us. He won't be a problem again ok. Let's get back to the car and get back home I think I may take you up on that offer."

Her eyes glowed with happiness as she said "Do you mean it?"

"Yeah I mean it."

"My father will cut me off you know I won't be a rich girl after I get the house."

"Who needs money anyway all it does is pulls us away from what matters in life." He said moving down close to her, kissing her tenderly "Plus I think I can get used to a cute kitty being around."

She kissed him back "You're a sweet guy Drako."

He looked back at where the fox was and said "Yeah...sometimes." Then in his head he thought to himself, 'To bad that never lasts at least I can have a somewhat happy life for a while.'

"Let's get going then, come on Drako." Said Ava taking his hand and pulling him away.

He smiled and looked at his future then, putting one foot forward. he walked toward it turning his back to the life he used to live. Ignoring the threat from some Fox with a power. He knew he would be able to deal with it later, he may not even need to worry at all. He knew that he wasn't the only one who could protect the worlds. That is what his daughter and his friend Sheba was for. They were out there somewhere, fighting the good fight and he knew it would be ok.

"Yeah lets go Ava. Into a new life..."
