Snow Bunny Ch.19
#19 of Snow Bunny
Fear is a very powerful thing. It makes you forget everything in one moment and running like hell the next. It makes your heart pound, your blood freeze and rush at the same time. It drowns out your hearing, steals your voice. It takes control of your body and makes you go and keep going until your lungs burn and legs on fire.
Moku has felt fear all his life. There is rarely a moment in his childhood that he remembers not being afraid. He was born a hunter and transformed into the hunted.
Beauty is also a very powerful thing. It makes creatures desire you and makes creatures despise you. You are wanted and cast aside at the same time. His mother was loved by the male wolves and hated by the females, thus is the curse of a beautiful woman. But Moku was loved by both sexes. The women thought he was cute which was fine but the men hungered for him. All his life he's felt those stares, feeling his skin crawl as eyes raked over his body. Even as a boy he was hunted by them. He was hidden away by his mother in a small hole in the wall that could be covered with a rock. But the rock didn't stop the noises that haunted him or the crack that he could see out of.
He always admired his mother because she never screamed, not once. He was a creation of her love, mating with the male she loved out of season just so she could have his child. His father wasn't the strongest of males and couldn't compete against the other wolves who wanted to mate with her. But she would have no one else, refusing to bear children for another wolf. In the end, his mother told him that his father was killed out of jealousy.
He remembered very clearly when his mother died. The males had come for him and she hid him in the hole again. It was always the same routine but something was different this time. They said they wouldn't have her. They wanted him.
Moku couldn't see how she was killed but he did her his mother's cry of pain and then silence. Then he heard angry and frightened whispering from the other wolves before they ran out to never be seen again.
He tried to push the rock away so he could get out but it was too heavy. He wouldn't call out for her because she told him never to speak, never make a sound, while he was hiding. So he waited for hours, curled up and crying silent tears.
He didn't know who found his mother but he heard a scream. Other wolves came in and there was so much movement. An hour later most of them left and Kadell walked into the room. He could remember Gira telling the wolf that they couldn't find Moku.
Kadell walked around the room, inspecting the walls, knocking of them. Moku remembered Kadell rolling back the rock and smiling sadly.
"There you are."
Moku remembered sobbing and being picked up by the other wolf, holding him tightly, whispering comforting things. He was nine at the time and there was never a time when Kadell couldn't find him.
Kadell took care of him the first week but Xinala wouldn't have it, accusing Kadell of loving Moku's mother more than her. And Kadell had Nali, after all, but Nali liked Moku and they played together. Nali told Moku that Xinala was jealous of his mother because Moku's mother was so beautiful. Kadell had once shown interested in taking her as a mate, but Nali didn't know that.
Moku was happy in Kadell's family but when Kadell left to go hunting, unable to handle his mate's accusations for one more second, Xinala chased Moku off. She told him if he ever came near her family again she'd kill him.
But that's when Derek found him. He'd seen Derek but never really talked to him because he was Raklyn's grandson and his mother forbade him to ever go near the wolf or his relations. He remembered Derek giving him an impish smile and grabbing his hand.
"You can live with me! My mom is dead too so she can't chase you off!"
Derek's father, Drake, didn't have a problem with it. He just looked Moku over before shrugging and ruffling the boy's hair. Moku knew that Drake let him in because Kadell had done so also. The youngest brother always looked up to Kadell in silent admiration that Derek once had.
Drake let the boy sleep with them, Derek curling up with him and whispering stories until late at night or Moku finally fell asleep. In the winter Drake always held Derek to keep him warm but he also pulled Moku close to his son so that he could wrap an arm around him to him keep warm too.
Snowflake. That's what Drake called him. He hated it with a passion. It was because he was an artic wolf and always had white hair year round and he was so small. Derek thought it was the funniest thing he'd ever heard and called him it any chance he got.
It was the happiest three years of his life. Derek was nice to him and Drake had accepted him as a son. And because Drake with a direct descendant and made it very clear that Moku was not to be touched, the other wolves stayed clear of him.
But it was one winter night where the blizzard was so thick you couldn't anything but white power when it all went away.
Drake didn't come back.
Derek had shrugged it off, saying that it was because of the blizzard. It was cold and Derek held him tightly but Moku didn't know if it was because he was cold too or scared. But Moku was scared also. He wanted Drake to come back and Derek said that he would in the morning.
He didn't.
A week passed and Kadell went out looking for him everyday. He always asked Derek is he would like to come also but Derek always responded that Drake would come back eventually so there was no need. For the entire winter they were alone, Moku scared and depressed. He missed Drake and when Derek caught him crying he got mad. That was the first time Derek ever was purposefully cruel to him.
It wasn't until the snow started to melt did they find the body.
Moku was a wreck but Derek didn't shed one tear. He stared at Gira as she told him. He didn't move as she hugged him. He didn't speak as she left.
It was during that vulnerable time that Raklyn start to sink his claws into his grandson. He told him that it was all Kadell's fault and Kadell never liked Drake because he was a threat and a betrayal to his mother by Cerberus. Derek started to believe him and hate Kadell. It was when Moku defended Kadell did Derek first strike him.
Everything went downhill from there.
Moku slowed his mad sprinting as he came to the mountains. He crawled up them to a small cave he knew existed. He hid there numerous times before when Derek got really mad at him or if Raklyn was after him.
The mouth of it was small, almost too small for him to fit through. But Moku could squeeze into almost anything and slid into the cold darkness.
He curled up in the corner, the ceiling pressing him to the ground. He trembled, trying to get warm. He missed Drake, he missed his mother. It wasn't fair.
He started to cry, thinking of Derek. He wanted to go back, to make sure the boy was okay but he knew he couldn't. Raklyn would be looking for him soon and Derek was hurt.
The small wolf sniffled, eyes sliding closed as exhaustion began to take over.
Derek would understand.
Derek groaned as he began to regain consciousness. His vision blurred as he looked around but the stone walls began to sharpen as he recognized he was in a cave. His body throbbed and his head pounded. This was not the best way to wake up.
Half his body was in bandages but he really didn't care.
"You're awake."
Grey eyes slid down to land on his grandfather. "Raklyn?"
Raklyn was smirking. "How are you feeling?"
"I've been better."
"I'm proud of you. You put up a decent fight against a feral Gira. There are not many that can do that."
Gira? Fight?
Derek bolted up and ended up crying out in pain. "Where's Moku?"
Raklyn's smirk was one of pure mirth. "I don't know."
Derek growled deeply, eyes hardened, silver bleeding out to consume his irises. "What do you want?"
Raklyn got up and walked over to sit on Derek's bed. "Lie down, my boy. This is going to be fun."
Derek didn't move, still glaring hot death at the other.
Raklyn examined his claws before speaking. "I've thought about what you asked of me."
"Oh? And? Are you going to leave him alone?"
"I don't think so."
Derek snarled, claws flexing.
Raklyn's smirk grew. "See, Derek... we're rivals in the same game. We both want the same thing. Actually, two things. We want to rule and we want that boy."
"I don't care about being alpha!" Derek snapped. "You can have it! Just leave Moku alone."
"I'm glad to hear that. So we agree. I get to rule and you get the boy. Perfect."
Derek's eyes narrowed. That was too easy. "What are you after?"
Raklyn looked Derek in the eye. "You will do whatever I say for now on, Derek. You're freedom is done. You are my tool and do what I wish. And in exchange my men and I will leave Moku alone."
Derek was about to speak but Raklyn cut him off.
"But... if you do anything that will contradict me, lash out, or do anything that would not make me happy I'll be on that boy faster than you can blink. I will rip him apart and leave him bleeding for you to find." Raklyn smiled sweetly. "Understand?"
Derek looked at him in horror before roaring and punching him as hard as he could.
Raklyn's head snapped to the side and paused for a second before turning to face him. He had that dark smirk on again. "That's going to cost you."
Derek was trembling as he watched his grandfather stand and walk towards the door.
"IF YOU TOUCH HIM I SWEAR TO GOD-"
But Raklyn was already gone.
Derek roared, grabbing a fur roll and throwing it. He felt so defenseless, so helpless.
Raklyn walked through the cave system with his lackeys following him. "Katsu."
Katsu looked up, holding his bandaged arm from when Gira had lashed out at him.
"Go out, take two others with you, and find Moku. Rough him up enough to make sure he can't walk back to the cave and he's easy to track. Don't fuck anything that's a virgin on him but leave your scent because..." he grinned, "we both know that that boy's mouth hasn't been a virgin in quite a few years."
Katsu grinned ruthlessly and fell back, motioning two others to follow, as he headed towards the exit.
Blue eyes snapped open.
Something was coming towards him.
Moku raised his head and slowly dragged himself towards the mouth. He paused, listening very carefully for anything.
The silence made him nervous but he still dragged his body out of the hole. Leaning against the side of the mountain, he listened, smelling the wind, searching for something.
And then he caught Katsu's scent.
His breath caught and he eyes opened wide with fear.
"No..."
Moku whimpered, looking around for a place to run. He climbed the ice covered rocks with surprising speed before sliding the smooth side, claws scarping against it to control his speed.
He ran through the forest, not sure where to go. If he went towards the den then they'd find him faster. But what was further out? Kadell's territory? Yeah. That'll just go so well.
Derek whimpered loudly as he tried to stand, limbs trembling with agony. He panted, eyes tightly closed.
He had to go after them. He had to help Moku.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?"
Silver eyes looked angrily at Barex. "I'm getting the fuck up so keep your voice down."
Barex's eyes scanned over the other. "Derek... you're going to kill yourself."
"Shut up! I am not!"
He put weight on his right foot and let out a low mewl, biting his lip. "Okay, maybe I am."
Barex helped him back down, gave him that 'you're a crazy bastard' look. "You're so stupid. I'm going to see if I can get you some food."
The wolf went to stand but a hand snapped up and grabbed his bicep. Hazel eyes looked at it before looking at Derek's pleading eyes.
"Barex... I need you to do something very important."
"What is it?"
Derek wet his lips, eyes shooting to the entrance before back to his friend. "I need you to go out, track Moku, and bring him back."
"Alright." He went to stand but Derek' grip tightened.
"If you see anything happening, and I mean anything, I want you to kill whoever is doing it. Do you understand?"
Barex's brows drew together. "What?"
Derek's eyes were darkening, his voice dropping to a whisper. "If there is anything happening to him." He gave him a meaningful look as if to secretly tell his friend what "anything" was. "Kill who ever are doing it or, if you can't, slash their face and I will. Do you understand?"
Barex stared at him for a few seconds, studying his friend. "I understand."
Derek looked slightly relieved but still a little scared. "Leave quietly, through the back exit. Do not let Raklyn see you."
"Got it. I'll take Ludus. He's stronger than Ethan."
"Fine."
Barex left and Derek laid back on his bed, staring at the ceiling, his thoughts not leaving him in peace.
"Hello, puppy."
Moku yelped, skidding to a stop in a hail of snow. He stared fearfully up at Katsu, slowly dragging his body back. Blue eyes darted between the three wolves and knew by their looks, especially Katsu's, what they were going to do to him.
He grunted, rolling over and scrambling to his feet. He cried out as claws wrapped around his arm but he twisted. He let out a whine as sharp points sliced into him, leaving his left triceps in ribbons. But he didn't stop running, sensing the other three chasing him.
He dodged, darting around trees in hopes of loosing them. He knew he was quicker than his pursuers but he'd been running longer. Exhaustion was starting to take its toll.
Moku's eyes darted to a rock that was shaped in half a face by rain and erosion before taking a sharp turn, using a tree trunk to help.
He sprinted passed it and stopped, turning to face the other wolves.
Katsu and his companion stopped too, falling back to make it more abrupt. They stared at the rock and then back at the bleeding pup.
Katsu smirked, standing and brushing off the snow. "Taking refuge in Kadell's territory. Very smart, puppy."
Moku was slowly walking backwards, eyes trained on the other artic wolf. He swallowed hard, not daring to speak. His back hit a trunk and his hands gripped it, anchoring him to the spot.
"Too bad he's not actually here."
And then Moku realized that there had originally been three that had chased him.
He roared as the third tackled him. The young wolf struggled, clawing at the ground before miraculously being able to kick the other off.
He must have traveled not more than three steps before Katsu grabbed him around the middle. Moku thrashed, roaring again, yelling but not sure what he was saying. His instincts were taking over, his animal blood thrumming through his veins.
"Shut up!"
Pain exploded through the side of his face as Katsu backhanded him. His vision flashed and he immediately froze, trembling out of fear. Blood drizzled from the corner of his mouth from where he had bitten his tongue.
"Much better."
Katsu grabbed the boy's slashed forearm, making sure to dig his fingers into the wounds, and forced him around.
Moku snarled and slashed as he was turned, feeling a surge of power as his claws sunk into Katsu's face and slid easily through the skin. But the high ended, the adrenaline coming down and cold fear taking its place.
Katsu had froze, the shock of being stuck by someone he considered weak and defenseless starting to wear away. His head turned to look at the boy, eyes narrowed in rage and Moku knew that he was going to die.
The first fist came out of nowhere and knocked him to the ground. He wasn't there for long as the older wolf grabbed him and slammed him against the tree. Blue eyes were tightly shut as he concentrated on not screaming and he was beaten mercilessly.
He coughed up blood as his battered body hit the snow again. Moku whimpered, struggling to drag himself away but a boot slammed into his back. The boy let out a silent scream, hands fisting into the white powder. He didn't struggle as he was jerked up, strong hands ripping his shirt almost in half. A scream ripped out of his throat as Katsu sunk its teeth into his shoulder viciously. It felt like he was trying to rip out the muscle and Moku attempted to jerk away, writhing as claws sliced into his chest and dragged down, leaving deep gashes. He let out a sob and wondered exactly how much deeper Katsu's fangs could try to get.
"Katsu..." one of the wolves said hesitantly. "Don't you think it'd be bad if you ripped out a chunk of flesh?"
Katsu tightened his jaw viciously one more time before releasing, spitting out blood and hand fisting into that pure white hair to hold the boy down at arms length.
"Right. Got a little carried away."
He jerked his arm back, forcing Moku's back to arch against his chest. "I believe you owe me a mating season."
Moku trembled with cold and fear. "Don't..."
Kastu grinned cruelly. "Don't what?"
"Don't fuck me."
Moku flinched as Katsu's tongue slid up his neck. "And what do you suggest I do instead?"
"Let me go?"
Kastu laughed maliciously. "I don't think so, bitch. I think you're going to fucking get on all fours and take it like the whore you are."
"No!" Moku's voice was desperate. "Please. Not that."
Katsu pressed his lips against Moku's ear and whispered. "Suck me, then."
Horribly memories flashed before the boy's eyes, making his trembling become visible. "No."
Katsu growled so deeply that Moku's breath got caught in his throat. "You fucking will or..."
Moku gulped. "Or what?"
"I'll break your arm."
The boy immediately froze, eyes snapping open. The man couldn't be serious, right? Getting his ass kicked was one thing but his arm? He wouldn't. But Moku had learned not to take Katsu's threats lightheartedly.
He opened his mouth to say that he will when Derek's face flashed before his eyes. He saw the crimson blood sliding down his body, exhaustion evident in his profile. He saw Derek straightening for him, posturing, before flashing that cocky smile of his. He could feel that tender kiss the full blood had given him when all hope was lost, his hands sliding through his hair. He could hear those words never spoken to him before echoing.
"I love you..."
Moku's head cocked to one side, sudden clarity dawning on him. "I think you're going to have to break my arm."
Katsu didn't move for a few seconds as he comprehended those words. "What?"
"You're going to have to break my arm." Moku said in a cut and dry voice. "Because I'd rather have every bone in my body shattered than to have to suffer through the horrifying experience of your disgusting cock in my mouth."
Katsu growled deeply but Moku didn't stop.
"And if you try and force me you better hope to god that the hold on my jaw is strong enough to keep me from biting it off because I swear I will any fucking chance I get. Now, let me the fuck go, you un-housebroken whipped dog."
The pure rage that was radiating from Katsu's body was almost enough to make his skin sizzle. Moku knew he went too far and he was going to pay for it but at the moment he didn't care. Derek had risked his life, the luxury of his freedom, for him and it wouldn't be fair to just bend over for someone else.
"Grab his arm."
Katsu's voice was so low that it let no chance to be argued with. As the artic wolf got off the boy, one wolf pinned one shoulder to the snow as the other grabbed his arm and pulled it straight.
Moku's eyes shut tightly and waited.
He screamed as the blow came fast and hard. He felt his shoulder slam out of its socket and attempted to rip free of the flesh. Tears streamed down his face and he couldn't stop crying out in pain. His only comfort was the fact that it wasn't broken. A dislocated shoulder could easily be popped back in but painfully.
He whimpered insistently and the wolves let him go. The boy curled up in a ball, pain throbbing through his right shoulder and everywhere his body was struck.
"One of you get him on his knees and force his mouth open."
Moku let out a sob as he was picked up and a clawed hand tightened around his jaw, forcing it open. Tears continued to stream down his face as he knew what was to come. He just hoped Derek would forgive him.
"KATSU! BEHIND YOU!"
The wolf turned but not fast enough. He was struck hard, crashing to the ground before he could see his assailant. The other two wolves followed, only seeing flashes and claws before being knocked out easily.
Katsu growled, pushing himself up but it wasn't long before someone grabbed hair and slammed his head against a tree trunk. He fell motionless to the snow, unconscious.
Blue eyes slid open to gaze at his savior and he was immediately doused in a whole new fear as a flicking tailed and golden cat eyes glared down at him.
"Hsahr de mrakensahl, bitch."
