Slayer's Redemption

Chapter 4

Reincarnation

"Alright, who drove the truck through my head?" was the first thing I said as I woke up. The last thing I remember was fighting in the arena, then....

Thunk! "What the...?" I had tried to rub my forehead, but my arm wouldn't move. I opened my eyes to find that I was strapped to a table, and I was naked save to a sheet covering my waist.

Looking around was a little hard since everything was tinted red from the odd candles burning around the room, not to mention I could barely turn my head.

I could see lots of shelves with random odds and ends filling them. One shelf held jars that looked like they had body parts floating inside them.

However one jar in particular caught my attention. It had a heart inside it, and it was still beating.

There was a creaking noise, then a slam. "Ohoho, our patient is awake!"

I tried to turn my head to see who it was, but my head couldn't turn far enough. "Who's there? How did I get here and what the fuck is going on?"

I heard tapping sounds, then a Wizardmon appeared to my left. "My my my, such manners. You should pay proper respect to your elders, boy." He said shaking his finger at me as if scolding a small child.

"I am no boy, and if you know what is good for you, you're going to untie me and tell me what you just did to me!"

He showed no sign of untying me, so I started pulling at the straps holding me down. "I have done nothing but what the mistress has asked." He said with a bow. I watched as he walked over to the shelves with the jars, then stood by the one with the heart in it. "Do you not recognize this?"

He picked up the jar and walked back to the table, setting it up on the tray next to my head so I could look at it better. I stared at it, then realization hit.

I looked down at my chest, and for the first time noticed the 4-inch hole in it. There was no blood or guts. Just a hole, as if someone drilled through concrete.

"Wha...what the hell?" Okay, now there was no pain or aching, just a cold sensation. "That's not cool, dude. You took my FUCKING HEART OUT?!" I was pissed now.

I pulled at the straps so hard that the table started bending, then the strap holding my right hand broke. In an instant I had my hand around his neck. I lifted him off the ground as I strangled him.

"Ack! Put...put me down..(cough)..you fool!" I tightened my grip on him. I could hear and feel cartilage crushing, veins bursting. There was a final wet SNAP; then he hung limp. I kept holding him, squeezing his broken neck until my fingers bore into it.

With a quick spasm of my hand, his head came off with a wet popping sound, sending blood bursting from his neck. I dropped his corpse on the ground and watched as it began dissolving into data. I held my hand open and absorbed the data, feeling even better having just killed something.

Once that was done, I grabbed the strap holding my other hand and tore it off.

After releasing the rest of my body, I stood up. With a little difficulty, I managed to wrap the sheet around myself like a Greek toga. I got blood all over it since I hadn't cared to clean up after killing the Wizardmon.

Exiting through the only door to the room, I started walking down random hallways. It was my luck that I came across Stingmon down one of these halls, and my spirits soared at the thought of ripping him apart. "You! Come here!" I yelled.

He turned around and watched me, but something was different. He seemed more confident. "Well, the human surviGURK!" I used both hands to grab his neck and slam him against the wall, holding him a good foot off the ground.

"Where is Lilithmon?" I yelled, but he seemed incapable of answering. "I said, where is Lilithmon?!"

"I'm right here."

I looked down the hall, and sure enough there she was. Lilithmon came right up to me and placed a hand on my shoulder. "My dear, if you kill my steward, who will keep my servants in line?"

The question was lost on me, but her meaning wasn't. I slowly set Stingmon back on the ground, then let go of him. He dropped to a knee and held his neck, coughing.

"Oh get up!" Lilithmon snapped. He jumped to his feet and stood at attention. "Go get a room ready for my new...companion." she said with a shooing motion.

Stingmon bowed then left in a hurry, looking back once before disappearing around a corner. "Companion? What happened to pet?" I asked as I stared into her eyes. For whatever reason, I felt no hostility now. No anger, no hate, just calm.

"You have proven much more useful than a mere pet, my dear. You are more my equal than any other here, and that takes more than...good bed manners." She said with a smirk.

I pulled her into a hug and leaned down to kiss her, but she put a finger to my lips to stop me. "Not now, I want you to rest first." She said as she pulled away from me.

After looking around, she ordered a passing digimon over. "Take him to the guest quarters, and get him cleaned up." The little bird digimon nodded, then grabbed my hand to guide me. "Rest well, for tomorrow your new life begins, my dear Slayermon."

***

A Dark figure sat atop a cliff, crouched and hidden among the brush. Little detail could be seen of him because of the black cloak he wore and the dark that had taken hold during the night.

That figure was me, and I was watching the small town that lay below the cliff.

Lilithmon had sent me here to hunt down yet another troublesome digimon. This time it was a Glademon that had started rallying a small army against her.

A lot has changed in the year since my entry into the digital world. No one that looked at me would tell I was once human.

I stood 7'6'' tall now, and my skin had turned a darker gray. My eyes were red with pupils that resembled a sharpened plus sign. My teeth had sharpened, and a pair of horns now grew from just behind my ears.

Because of past battles, I've learned to change my form using the data of defeated digimon. My arms were now covered in silver armor that ended in clawed hands. The cloak I wore hid the wings and tail I had acquired from a Devidramon.

Having visited one of the castle's many bars, I discovered that I was not a favorite of the locals. The Devidramon bouncer decided he didn't like the way I looked, and had tried to 'rearrange my face'. Needless to say, he failed miserably.

I still wore the clothes Lilithmon had given me except the shirt no longer had sleeves. Though the shirt covered it, I still had the hole in my chest.

I had asked Lilithmon why she removed my heart. Her answer was "To remove all weakness, and the heart is the greatest weakness of all." And she had been right. When she first asked me to kill the Angemon, I hesitated.

Now she could ask me to kill a room full of children and I would do it. I actually seemed to like the act of killing now, however Lilithmon had ordered me not to kill unless it was necessary.

"MASTER!" and here came the only digimon to bother talking to me since I killed Stingmon a month ago.

I had 'discovered' his connection to a resistance group and killed him for it. Lilithmon wasn't too happy, but didn't question me.

A Bastemon came running up the cliff to meet me. "Master, the Glademon is hiding in a house near the town square. He has several of the digimon on his side now." She panted.

Without acknowledging her, I stood, walked to the cliff edge and jumped off. "MASTER!?"

"Stay there."

After falling for a good twenty feet to gain speed, I spread my wings and took flight towards the town. I was skimming the ground, not wanting to be seen just yet.

As I got closer, I slowed down. As with most towns Lilithmon controlled, there was a tall wall surrounding it. This wasn't to keep people out, but more to keep them in. Travel to and from towns was monitored very closely.

I stopped just before the main gate and walked up to it. I pounded on the large iron door, sending loud clanging noises into the night air. There was a moment of wait, then a panel in the door opened. "Who goes there?"

I had to lean down to look through. "Slayermon."

The Guardromon jumped and disappeared from view. There was a loud grinding noise, then the gate slowly opened inward. "Welcome to Windcrest, my lord!" Guardromon said as he ran to greet me.

I simply pushed past him and walked down the street. There were lights still burning in most of the houses. I caught glimpses of digimon in windows before they were shut in fear.

I kept walking down the street to the town center. Once there, I held my right hand out so the screen was up. "Glademon, ultimate level digimon. Locate."

There was a beep as a small ball of light appeared above my hand. A red/white needle formed in the center and began rotating in random directions. The red half of the needle stopped and pointed to my left and a bit upwards. "Good." The light dissipated and I let my arm drop.

I walked to the house it had pointed at and knocked on the front door. There was no answer. "In the name of the Dark Empress, open this" CRASH! I was sent flying across the town center into the fountain set in the middle.

"Be gone with you, messenger of the damned!" came from the destroyed doorway. I stood up and stepped out of the now crumbling fountain. A thin fog formed as the water evaporated off me, just as all water seemed to do.

I dusted myself off. "Messenger? You think me a lowly messenger?" I asked as I walked towards the knight digimon. He was nearly as tall as me, but covered in red and yellow armor with a red cape.

He had his twin swords out and was standing defensively. "I am no messenger, but the executioner!" I flew at him.

Any one watching would have only seen a blur as we fought. I didn't have any really useful weapons in my arsenal, so I concentrated on using my claws and throwing random energy blasts at him.

The surrounding houses were getting destroyed as we battled, most of the damage dealt by me. "Why do you fight us?" he asked as we stood on opposite roofs. "Why do you serve her?"

I had been asked these questions before. "I will not explain myself to a fool who defies his queen." And with that I brought my right arm up as if to hold something.

Two spikes on either side of my wrist extended to 4-foot long poles. A beam of red light formed between the tips. I brought my other hand up and pulled on the light, causing a second beam to stretch between my left hand and the index finger of my right. "Devastation Arrow"

I let it fly just as Glademon surged towards me. The arrow caught him in the shoulder and launched him backwards. When he landed, it was in the middle of the Town Square.

I dropped down and landed ten feet from him. Glademon staggered back to his feet and held his shoulder while his other hand tried to lift his remaining sword. "I shall not fall!" Yet as he spoke, my arrow did its job.

The area around the tip became static, and Glademon yelled in pain. "Under order of the Dark Empress, you are here by executed." I said as I walked up to him, and with one quick slash of my hand, his head went rolling across the ground with a loud clatter.

His body slumped to the ground and began dissolving. I absorbed the data and added his abilities to my own. I brought my right hand up and tapped the screen. "Alter form, Glademon, swords." There was a beep, then I felt a weight on my hips. I looked down and saw Glademon's swords hanging from my belt.

I looked around and saw Glademon's now empty helmet on the ground. I picked it up, and on a whim, placed it on my head. It fit rather well, except for my horns. I took it back off and ran my claws across the surface. The colors changed from red and yellow to black and gray. I stabbed two holes in the back for my horns then put it on again.

I looked around at the houses and saw the damage we had caused; it made me smile under the helmet. I walked to the center and flew ten feet into the air. "Hear this. A public execution will be held for those who aided this rebel. Any who oppose shall also be executed." I dropped to the ground and found the closest digimon. It was a Patamon. "Where is your Inn?"

She jumped in fright as I spoke, but pointed in a direction. I walked that way and soon found it. It was a decent size, looking like it had at least twenty rooms.

After finding the Inn, I walked through the closest gate and flew back to the cliff. "How did it go, Master?" Bastemon asked as soon as I landed.

"The target is dead." I put my arm out to her. "Time to go. I found a place to sleep."

Bastemon hesitantly walked toward me. I knelt down and wrapped my arms around her waist. After standing back to my full height, I jumped and flew back towards the town.

I didn't even bother with the gate and flew straight to the Inn. After landing and placing Bastemon back on the ground, I walked right into the main lobby. There were odd decorations everywhere. A number of large rocks were scatter around the lobby.

At first I thought the place was deserted, than one of the rocks in the room moved. It was a Digitamamon. "Hello, how may...." He froze when he saw who I was.

"A room with two beds." I ordered. He just rocked back and forth in his form of a nod, then started walking down a hall. He led us up to the last room on the top floor.

"This is the best room in the house." He said quickly as I opened the door. This wasn't a room, but a large apartment.

I wasn't surprised; I was always given the best room for fear that I would go on a killing rampage if I got any less. "This will do." I said just before Bastemon rushed in past me. She started exploring the many rooms.

"Wow! We got a jacuzzi in here!" came from the room in the back.

I turned to Digitamamon. "We will want a meal in the morning, and no disturbances."

He nodded again then ran down the hall, almost hitting the wall as he turned the corner without slowing down. I closed the door when I heard crashing down stairs.

After shutting and locking all the windows then closing the blinds, I sat down on a bed and sighed. "God this whole 'rod up the ass' act sucks!" I pulled off my coat and spread out my wings, throwing the coat on the floor. "Damn it feels good to get a real bed tonight." I laid back into the mattress and closed my eyes.

"Yes, master, it does."

"Oh please, you can give that shit a rest, Baste." I heard a giggle, then felt the bed shift.

"Okay, Slayer, but I think its fun. I get to be your little pet kitty." I opened my eyes to see her holding her hands/paws up, looking more like a cat than usual.

Her antics were over the top, but that made her interesting.

"EEP!" I grabbed her and pulled her down on top of me.

"I think its time we got some sleep. I have work to do in the morning."

Bastemon grumbled. "You and your executions. Keep this up and there won't be any one left to rule over."

I lightly rolled her onto the other side of the bed so I could stand up. "They're not just executions. Each digimon I kill expands my capabilities"

"Until her highness puts another limiter on you." She retorted.

I sighed and started undressing for bed. "Yes, she'll probably put another one on me soon, but that only shows how much she fears me. Without these limiters, she can't control my power." I imagined the things I would do to Lilithmon once these limiters were broken.

It was something she had started shortly after my heart was removed. Her reasoning was "Too much power can overwhelm even the most careful digimon." But I knew she was simply afraid of how quickly my power was growing.

After I finished undressing, I looked at the screen on my hand. "Command, devolve." There were two beeps, than a cool sensation rushed through me. I look down to see that my form had changed to that of my human self. "That's better."

I looked just like I did over a year ago, except for the hole in my chest. No matter what I did, I couldn't close it. Thanks to Bastemon's curious nature, I knew it went all the way through as well. Though it was a complete hole, sometimes I felt pain there. Like my heart was still in my chest.

"If you want to sleep, then come and sleep." Bastemon had stripped as well and was now pulling my arm towards the bed.

I smiled and lay down next to her, feeling her three tails lashing around contentedly. Though I had no feelings for her truly, the company was still pleasant. I pulled the covers over us both, then held her closer.

Tomorrow was going to be a glorious day.
