Summer with Leomon: Sun Rise
#12 of Summer with Leomon
When Ben woke up the sun still wasn't up. He had to pee real bad though so he wiggled himself free from his two digimon and went outside.
The sky was lighting up a bit and Ben found a nice bush to do his business behind. He decided to stay out there for awhile and maybe watch the sun rise. His mom told him once that when he was a baby, he would always wake up right before the sun rise and they would watch it together.
Ben was only a baby though so he didn't remember what it looked like now. He sat on a big rock a little bit away from the factory.
"Only a few more sunrises and summer will be over. It seemed to have gone by so fast, now I won't have to go back to school this time. In the digital world though, Renamon will probably find some way to teach me." Ben thought as he looked patiently at the sky.
Ben still was having a hard time getting used to calling his mom Renamon. He knew that he should, but it was such a major change in his life. Technically his whole life was going through a major change. It was both exciting and frightening.
This summer had brought so much to Ben. To him this was his best summer ever.
Ben remembered what Leomon said about how he'd die for him. "Would he really do that?" Ben sighed and continued to look at the sky.
Then he heard footsteps. They were coming closer and as Ben eyed the area around him, he couldn't see anybody! The footsteps continued to get closer and closer.

There was a field full of Elecmon's. All of them looked happy and calm.
"THEY'RE COMING!" to the distance one small little Elecmon came running down a hill shouting that over and over again.
Not too far behind him, Sansamon's army of evil digimon marched in their direction. They would destroy anything in their path.
Soon the field was in flames and the Elecmon were helpless to the much stronger digimon. Their only two choices were to either join or die.
The small Elecmon who warned them was the Leomon you know now.
A large digimon approached him and he was paralyzed in fear. The digimon attacked and before the attack hit the little Elecmon, another larger Elecmon jumped in the way.
"NO!" cried the little Elecmon.
The field that used to be the peaceful home to all Elecmon was in ashes. The little Elecmon wandered about all alone, until he heard someone coming. He quickly went and hid behind a burnt bush.
The digimon walking near was Sansamon himself. Sansamon chuckled at the burnt field. A shrill anger awakened inside the little Elecmon. He wanted revenge.
The large digimon was indeed, as those who saw him say, the most intimidating looking thing around.
Sansamon walked away without noticing the little Elecmon.
The little Elecmon was relieved, then suddenly a strong grip pulled him up from the ground and he now stared into the eyes of Sansamon.

Leomon gasped and opened his eyes. He was covered in sweat as if he literally felt the heat from the fire.
"Ben? BEN?" He called out.
No one was there in the rundown factory. Leomon wondered if Ben and Renamon went out to find breakfast, but usually only one person would go. Then the thought came, "Renamon might've taken Ben away. No, she couldn't, not after last night." Leomon thought.
"LEOMON! LEOMON!"
Leomon recognized Renamon's voice calling for him.
Renamon burst in and ran at Leomon. "Leomon, they've taken Ben!"
"What?!"
"Someone's taken him. I found this in the grass outside."
Renamon held out Ben's digivice. She was crying now.
Leomon's mouth was wide open as he looked at the digivice. "No, Why'd you let them take him?!" he yelled.
Renamon growled and dug her claws into his shoulders. "I DIDN'T YOU BASTARD! I DIDN'T!"
"Well what happened then?!" Leomon tried to ignore the serious pain in his shoulders.
Renamon let go of him and calmed down a little. "I woke up early this morning to get breakfast, Ben wasn't here. I went out to look for him and then I heard him screaming for us in the distance. I ran around everywhere trying to find him and I only found this." She looked down at the digivice again.
Leomon trembled in anger and fear.
So did Ben who was now sitting in the back of a police car.
"Where are those friends who helped you kid?" the cop in front asked.
"I don't know what the fuck you're talking about." Ben tried to show no fear, hoping Leomon and Renamon would come save him soon.
Ben trembled again. He wondered if they would find him in time before anything bad happened. He hoped the digimon wouldn't be found by these cops.
The same cop who caught Ben took him to the police station and to the backroom for questioning.
"So some kids told me they saw you a while back in some alleyway. You know what's funny is, they say when you saw them that you called on some big Lion creature to save you. Personally we think those kids probably had problems huh?"
"Yeah... but wait! Those kids beat me up and tried to kill me!" Ben said.
"That's not what I heard. I heard you, or some asshole friend of yours ("Probably in a costume), nearly beat a kid to death. Care to tell me why?"
"I told you! It was because they nearly tried to kill me!"
"Really, because it seem like you don't have a scratch on you." The cop smiled thinking he got him there.
Ben remembered the scar on his back he got from Agumon. He showed it to the cop. The cop was silent for a moment.
"Did those kids do this to you?" he asked.
Ben turned back to face him and nodded his head.
"Kid, just one more question. Did you actually have a friend there in a costume?"
Ben froze for a minute then said, "No, I didn't have a friend there at all."
"Listen..." the cop looked directly into Ben's eyes, "A few of the guys here at the station have been acting weird lately. Today when we heard about this, the weird ones all acted even weirder you see. I'm trying to find out what's going on. Ben... if there's anything you need to tell me."
Then another cop came into the room. This cop looked suspicious to Ben.
"Ah, so this here's the kid we've been after." The other cop said.
The cop Ben had been talking to kept his eyes on him as if he never noticed the other guy come in. "Yeah, this is the kid. I don't think he did anything though."
"Oh really."
The other cop pulled out his handgun. Before Ben could yell out, he shot it through the chest of the cop in front of him.
"Oh my god!" Ben screamed.
"I know who you are Ben, and I know about your digimon. I know about your mother too. Where are they Ben?"
Ben was speechless.
The cop went over and pulled Ben up by the arm. "I'll get it out of you Ben! No matter what it takes!"
Ben had to escape on his own. Somehow he had to getaway, but how?
Leomon sat trying to be as calm as possible, though his fists were shivering.
Renamon couldn't keep calm at all. She kept pacing back and forth muttering something Leomon couldn't understand.
"I know where he might be!" Renamon shouted.
Leomon's attention went back to her.
"Those were police chasing us remember? So if they got Ben then they must've taken him to the police station."
Renamon was already heading out until Leomon said, "Renamon, those aren't normal humans. How do we know they didn't take Ben to somewhere completely unknown?
Renamon froze for a second. "It's the only idea we got Leomon, of where he may be."
"What if..." Leomon began, "what if he's dead." Leomon suddenly felt despair and anguish.
"Don't say that! Don't you ever say that!" Renamon was now in an uproar. "Ben's not dead god dammit! Now we're going to find him Leomon and we're going now!"
Renamon jolted out the door and Leomon followed. Both of them deep inside were saying, "Please let him be alive."
Renamon led the way to the police station and it didn't take them long, since they were going so fast.
They were only four blocks away from it when they heard, "HELP!"
Running down the street was Ben flailing his arms in the air.
"Oh thank god!" Renamon said.
Leomon then noticed one of the red eyed cops not too far behind Ben.
He roared and bounded from the roof towards the cop. Renamon jumped down and Ben ran into her arms.
Before the cop could reach them, Leomon landed straight in front of him and slashed him right across the face.
Leomon's claws ripped off the skin covering the cop's left cheek bone. The cop fell to the ground and covered his wound with his hand, but he didn't scream. He remained silent.
Leomon was about to finish him off when a cop car came fast toward him and stopped only a few yards away.
Two cops got out and started firing at him.
"LEOMON!" Ben screamed.
Renamon knew she had to help him. So she went and took Ben into a corner and jumped on top of a roof.
"Ahh!" Leomon had tried to get away as quick as possible, but he was shot right in the arm.
He stopped and clutched his arm. The police were now reloading their guns and Leomon knew if he didn't move fast then he'd be dead.
"Diamond Storm!"
The two cops were now barraged in a cloud of sharp luminescent diamonds. Their now mangled bodies fell to the ground.
Renamon stood in triumph and Leomon simply sighed in relief. Ben walked out from his corner to see his two digimon still standing. He was so joyous.
"Leomon! Mom!" he ran out to them.
They both smiled as their boy ran to them, but they forgot one thing.
Both the digimon's eyes widened as the cop who had chased Ben stood back up. The red glint of light in his eyes seemed to pierce the digimon.
They both started to make a move towards Ben (who hadn't noticed any of this), but it was too late. One perfect shot was fired straight through Ben's skull.
Blood gushed out of him as he fell with a loud thud. Leomon and Renamon's voices had left them as they watched this horrid sight.
The cop had bled to death soon after his shot was made, but seemed happy to die as if his mission was fulfilled.
The digimon rushed over to Ben's body. Leomon flipped him over and stared at Ben's glazed eyes.
Renamon sobbed as she pounded the ground and Leomon only held Ben and continued to stare into his eyes.
"This... this can't...be happening." Leomon stuttered.
The sound of distance police sirens were getting closer. More of them were coming.
"Re...Renamon, we have to go now." Leomon said.
"What! We can't just leave him here!"
"We're not!" Leomon stood up with Ben still in his arms. The arm Leomon used to support Ben's shoulders was covered in blood from his head.
They both retreated back to the factory, where they buried Ben's body. He was buried right beside the large rock he sat on that morning.
Leomon and Renamon had lost hope. To them, there was no reason to live anymore. Until a sudden fury burned inside Leomon.
"Sansamon..." he thought, "I know he was responsible for this. He killed my family, my friends, now he's even killed the one I love most." Leomon's fist began to tighten as he stared at the place were Ben lied in peace.
