Summer with Leomon: Dreams
#13 of Summer with Leomon
THE LAST CHAPTER!!!!
Renamon hadn't spoken to Leomon for weeks. They remained hiding in the abandoned factory, but would only exchange looks at each other when confronted.
Ever since Ben's death, all Leomon could think about were the glazed eyes. Leomon had had nightmares about them, those emotionless eyes staring at him. He knew it wasn't he who killed Ben, but he should have finished off that one police officer.
Renamon had been having dreams too, but she couldn't tell if they were nightmares or not. Her dreams were all a blur. She couldn't tell what was going on. All she heard was laughing.
She was sitting on top of an old machine that had black marks all over it. She guessed it was some type of rub off powder and she hoped it hadn't stained her bottom.
She took a quick glance around the old factory, it was grey and dull. It really always had been actually, but it was more depressing now.
Leomon came over to her and for the first time in weeks they began to talk.
"Renamon, I'm so sorry. It was my fault. If I had killed that one police officer then Ben wouldn't have died." Leomon said.
Renamon didn't answer him.
"You have every right to be angry with me Renamon", he said.
Suddenly Renamon grabbed Leomon's hand. "I'm not mad at you at all Leomon", she said as her gripped tightened.
They looked at each other for awhile.
"It's just, there's no hope left Leomon." She let go of his hand. "Ben's gone, my son, my love, I have no reason to go on anymore. I have no strength, no courage, and like I said no hope for rescuing my father from Sansamon."
Leomon's face hardened, "We can defeat Sansamon, we will get Grandpa back, and we will have our revenge. Renamon..." This time Leomon grabbed her hand. "Ben would keep going, if it was one of us he would keep going."
Renamon's eyes filled with tears and she hugged Leomon tightly. Leomon hugged back and felt that together there would be away to defeat Sansamon and avenge Ben's death. But he had to admit he had no idea how they would.
Then all the sudden Leomon heard a loud beeping noise coming from his pant's pocket. Both digimon looked at it and saw a bright red light flashing through Leomon's pocket.
Leomon took out the small digivice, it continued to flash and beep. He had completely forgotten he put it in his there.
"What the hell happening to it?" asked Renamon.
"I... I don't know, but it's as if it's trying to tell us something."
They kept staring at the small device and after a little while it stopped. They had no idea why it acted this way.
"There's no use for this damn thing anymore." Leomon was about to chuck it at a wall until Renamon grabbed his wrist.
"No Leomon, this is the only thing we have left that once belonged to Ben."
Leomon understood where she was coming from and lowered his hand.
"Besides, to get to Sansamon we need to go to the digital world right?" She asked.
"Well... yeah."
"So what if we need this to get there."
Leomon now knew what she meant and tucked the digivice back in his pocket. "We must somehow find a portal to the digital world. If you're right then this may help us find one."
Renamon fell silent. She had no idea where on earth they would find a portal or how they would get the digivice to show them where one was.
They didn't talk or make plans, but simply pondered over the portals and the idea that the digivice may help them.
That night they had no trouble falling asleep, unlike the nights before. After Ben's death they feared that the red eyed policemen would come and hunt them down, but they never saw them again after that tragic day.
Leomon thought that maybe Sansamon was waiting for them to come to him. He knew they would come to get revenge.
Renamon didn't think on this matter though. She knew if she thought of the red eyed policemen then she would end up thinking about the day Ben died. That memory was too painful for her to go through again.
The next morning Leomon was awakened by a tickly feeling on his foot. He imagined it was Ben playing with it and looked down at his foot immediately. Ben wasn't there and he brought his foot to his face to see only a little bug crawling on it. He flicked it off and felt like stamping it.
Renamon walked into the factory carrying bundles of squirrels. Like always Leomon gobbled up his food and Renamon only ate one squirrel.
Renamon still found it odd that her new digimon taste buds found raw flesh so tasty.
That day had been like the day before it. They were silent and pondering over what to do. None of them developed any good or useful ideas.
The night before they had the same dreams as usual. Leomon staring into Ben's glazed eyes and Renamon in a blurry world only hearing laughing.
This night Leomon had a hard time falling asleep. He felt so helpless at this point and wondered if they would ever find a portal.
Renamon was already asleep though, but this time her dream was different.
She was in their old apartment standing in front of their old TV. Sitting on the couch was her as a human holding a baby Ben in her arms.
Rachel (the human Renamon) lifted him up in the air and gave him kisses on his belly. "Who's my baby boy? You are!" She continued to kiss her son's belly.
The baby giggled and Renamon started to cry. To her this dream was like torture. She wanted her son back and she was being put through watching her baby that she knew she could never have back.
She wanted to close her eyes but something kept them open. Then from the kitchen came her husband. He was smiling and laughing too and he took the baby from Rachel.
"He looks just like his dad huh?" Rachel asked.
Renamon's ex-husband looked at the baby and laughed. "Well, he's definitely got my strange laugh."
Rachel laughed and Renamon suddenly left the laughing family to another memory.
She was now at Grandpa's shop standing in his office. The human her had Ben (still a baby) in her arms and Grandpa gave his little grandson kisses on the cheek.
"Dad, you got to see this", Rachel said.
She got on the floor and placed Ben on his two legs.
Renamon knew what this was very well now.
"Ben, go to Grandpa baby."
Then the infant began taking small steps toward his grandfather. His chunky little arms were hung out for balance.
Renamon sobbed even more as she saw this. "Ben! I want my Ben!" she thought.
The baby made it to Grandpa and he picked him up laughing.
"Good job Ben!" they both said. The baby laughed and clapped his hands together.
Renamon went away again to another memory. She was standing beside the small kitchen table where Rachel was sitting reading the paper and drinking some tea.
Renamon noticed the long table which hung to the floor on the table.
Then a little 6 year old Ben came crawling from around the corner, unnoticed by his mother who had her eyes on the paper.
He crawled under the table out of view and Renamon got down on her knees and somehow the table cloth became transparent and she could see Ben under the table.
Ben stared at his mother's bare feet for a long time until he extended a finger and poked her toe.
Rachel's foot still stayed still and Ben smiled. He then rubbed his hand on the ball of her foot and it still stayed still.
Renamon looked up at Rachel, she was smiling. Rachel knew what her son was doing.
Renamon looked back at Ben again who was rubbing his face in his mother's foot as if it was some type of cuddly teddy bear.
All the sudden Rachel's arms went under the table and she pulled him out onto her lap. Renamon now saw Ben being held in his mother's arms. His face was a bright shade of red and his mother was smiling down upon him.
"Mommy I..." Ben was completely embarrassed.
"It's okay Ben." She said gently.
Ben's face was still red. "I was... I saw a penny under the table Mommy. Can... can I go to my room now?"
Rachel, still smiling said okay and Ben ran off to his room.
Renamon was smiling too with tears running down her cheeks. She went to another memory.
Yells were heard as Renamon stood in the living room again. She noticed an 11 year old Ben sitting down on the couch. His face was dark and sad.
"YOU LYING ASSHOLE! GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!" she heard Rachel yelling.
"DON'T YOU CALL ME AN ASSHOLE YOU BITCH!" the voice of Renamon's ex-husband yelled.
"GET OUT NOW!" Rachel screamed.
Ben started crying and his father came out from the hallway carrying many bags. The door was already open and he stormed out of it.
This was the last time Rachel or Ben saw him. After he walked out that door he was gone forever. Rachel came out of the hallway and heard Ben crying.
"Ben... Ben, go to your room now!" she yelled.
"Mom..." Ben whimpered.
"NOW!"
Ben ran off to his room and slammed the door behind him.
Renamon was still, she wished she hadn't yelled at him, she wished she comforted him.
"I'm so sorry Ben." She tearfully thought.
Renamon eyes popped open and she was back in the factory. She was shaking and sweaty. She looked up at the ceiling for the rest of the night unable to go back to sleep.
Meanwhile, Leomon was also having a strange dream. He was in the factory, and as he walked around he saw an old man in a black robe sitting on a large crate.
"Who are you?" Leomon said as he approached him.
"The digivice." The old man said.
"What?"
"The digivice, it was flashing and beeping right?"
Leomon remained silent.
"The digivice was beeping because a digital portal was being opened somewhere. Find the portal and you'll be sent to the digital world."
"Wait, where is the portal? Who are you?" Leomon asked.
"Oh you know where the portal is Leomon, and as for my identity, you may call me The Creator." Then the old man disappeared and Leomon was in a black room.
"Where are you?! Come back!" Leomon yelled, but the old man didn't return.
Then he heard footsteps. Leomon turned and saw Ben walking towards him.
BEN!" Leomon yelled in excitement.
He began to run towards Ben but stopped in his tracks when two more Bens walked behind the first. Two more appeared behind those two.
Leomon was staring at five Ben's, each of them carrying whips.
"Be...Ben?" Leomon stuttered.
The Bens circled around him and when Leomon was trapped inside, all their eyes turned red and they began to thrash Leomon with their whips.
Leomon couldn't attack them, so he fell to the ground and curled in a ball as they whipped him.
"Please stop! I love you! Please!" Leomon cried.
The Bens continued to whip him. "Why did you let us die Leomon?! If you loved us then you wouldn't have let us die!" They all said at once.
Leomon looked back up at them. All their eyes were glowing red.
"Sansamon..." he growled.
Leomon rose up and drew his sword. "You killed him Sansamon!"
He sliced all the Bens and they vanished into thin air.
Leomon was alone again and he sheathed his sword.
Then suddenly he began to see images. Images from the past. The passed by in a minute, but Leomon could see what they were.
He saw the burnt field and Sansamon smiling at the destruction he caused.
He then saw memory that he wasn't in himself. It was back in the tunnels after he left Renamon and Ben alone. Renamon was with Ben and she said, "Ben... you shouldn't call me your mother anymore."
Leomon didn't know how he saw this because he wasn't there when it happened, but he went to another memory. It was on the day of Ben's death, Ben was running from a corner after the fighting and he called out, "Leomon! Mom!"
"Wait! Why did he say Mom?" Leomon thought quickly. "Was it because of the moment?"
Then he saw those eyes. Those glazed over eyes of his dead lover. Leomon couldn't bear to look at them again until he saw.
The Leomon in the memory didn't notice this, as he got up ready to carry Ben off back to the factory.
Leomon saw a small red sparkle that shined just as the sun came into direct contact with Ben's glazed eyes. Then it vanished.
Leomon's eyes burst open. It was daybreak.
He ran to find Renamon and found her sleeping on the other side of the factory. He shook her awake and she looked at him drowsily.
"Leomon... what's wrong?" she asked.
Leomon's hands were trembling and he felt very hot. He burst out, "Ben's still alive!"
