Ch10. Our Return.
With both the noise and the light from outside the tent, Phillip woke slowly, letting out a small groan as he tried to stretch out. He found it difficult, as the wolf's arm was wrapped around him, however. Phillip struggled and slowly managed to roll over to see the half-awake wolf smiling at him warmly.
"Morning." Blaferis said softly.
"Morning."
The wolf gave the boy one more squeeze before letting him go and sitting up. "How did you sleep?"
"Not too bad." He said with a smile. "At least I was warm."
Blaferis chuckled as he slipped out from underneath the blankets, revealing his naked form. Phillip blushed and quickly turned away too look down at the blankets. "Going to have to hurry, we kind of slept in and we have to get moving."
"Are we heading back?" the boy asked.
"Yeah, I need to talk to the captain about the situation and I'm sure he'll want to talk to me and squad six's leader as well."
Phillip kept his eyes away from the wolf that was slipping on his paints and got up and after finding some of his clothing, he started to quickly get dressed himself. When the two finished pulling on their clothes and packed their bedding and whatever stuff they had laid out, they started to move everything out. Philip watched as some of the other anthros quickly came over and started tearing down the tent. With his bag on his back and sword in hand Phillip followed Blaferis over to where the Hounds were being kept to load their belongings. Once in view Scar started to howl and scratch the ground with his claws. The boy couldn't help but smile and rush over to the big creature to scratch him under its chin. Phillip chuckled when the Hound let out a long murr and started to push against him.
The march back to the arch was mostly silent; Phillip could feel that everyone wasn't in the mood for laughter and happiness. Instead sorrow and uneasiness flowed from the other anthros. The boy looked around until he found the spotted anthro ahead of him and picked up his pace until he was right beside the dog.
"Morning." The boy said.
Scrit looked down and gave him a big toothy grin. "Morning, how did you sleep?"
He shrugged. "Not bad but can I ask you a small question when we get a break?"
"Sure, anything." The dog said, his tail starting to wag.
The boy just gave the dog a smile back, the thought of how the conversation was going to go played over and over in his head. A couple of hours into the walk back to the gate the squad leaders called for the troops to halt and to take a break. The boy looked over at the dog next to him that was still smiling, with a small wave the dog followed the boy away from the group a little to be within sight but out of hearing.
Once they were far enough Phillip turned around and looked at the still smiling dog.
"Ok what's up?" Scrit asked.
"Promise you won't get mad?" the boy responded.
"I promise." The dog said and gave the boy his full attention.
The boy took a deep breath before continuing. "Well, Husvor said that you told him to stay away and that he wasn't going to take me away from you."
The Dalmatian's tail started to slow down, and a small growl rose from his throat. "I'm going to..."
"Scrit." The boy said firmly. "What did you just promise?" The dog's ears flatten immediately.
"Sorry... He only came and told you so you'll get mad and won't talk to me anymore,"
The dog started to whimper.
Phillip shook his head. "I'm angrier that you said that. Why would you think that I wouldn't be your friend anymore?"
Scrit looked down at the ground. "I've lost a human that was supposedly my friend once before."
"I've heard," The boy said with concern. "What happened?"
The dog let out a whimper, the look of sadness in his eyes as he tried his hardest not to look at the boy and break down. "A bondless human came to our guild; he was friends with everyone, especially me. We hung out every day, went out to eat, got really close until he bonded with some horse. After he bonded I went to talk to him and he just laughed at me; said what good am I to him now that he was bonded to an Anthro."
Even thought the dog tried his hardest, tears were slowly rolling down the side of his muzzle. "We did everything together, and just like that he tossed me aside. Then you came along and started to be friends like he did and I just didn't want to have that done to me again." The dog whined and wrapped his arms around himself.
Phillip slowly walked up to the dog and wrapped his arms around the dog. "I'm sorry that you had to go through that, but you're my friend and always will be. I never really had any friends growing up and I don't want to lose any of you over something like that."
The dog quickly wrapped his arms around the boy and picked him up off the ground and held him into a tight hug. Phillip gasped from the hug, but couldn't help but laugh. "Ok, ok. Let's get back before they all leave us behind," the boy said.
Scrit slowly lowered the boy to the ground and nodded. "Ok, and thank you. I'll try my best and not be so selfish."
Phillip just gave his friend a smile while they both turned and walk back to the troops.
...........................................................
After the Squad Six leader opened the gate, everyone started coming through to see the not so happy looking captain and a shivering lieutenant standing behind him. Blaferis and Mrager both slowly start to walk up to him as the rest of the squads collected their gear from the hounds and moved away from the four as fast as they could. Phillip didn't know what happened but he knew it wasn't good as he started to walk past the four the ground started to shake uncontrollably, the boy looked over at the captain and watched as the ground around his feet started to break apart and the small pieces of gravel started to rise up and levitate around him.
The boy looked around and saw that all the other anthros were moving faster away and the thought wasn't a bad idea, the boy decided to start heading towards the barracks when a hand fell onto his shoulders. He looked behind him to see Zach and Xavier standing beside him.
"Off in a hurry?" Zach asked.
"Um, kind of," the boy responded in a low tone.
The bear scratched the back of his neck, looking over at the lion whom had seemingly cooled off a little, as the ground stopped rumbling. "He's in a bad mood because he lost good men and now has to form a new Squad One."
"A lot of work for him then, huh?" The boy responded.
"That, and also trying to get things ready for the festival. Lost most of our best fighters," the bear grunted, beginning to walk away from the small argument that had started to brew up again in front of the arch.
Zach turned Phillip around and started to follow the bear. "We need fighters for the celebration?" he asked, curious.
The older human nodded. "The three guilds will have their fighters battle one another to show the guild's strength. The only rule is that the captains can't participate because they're too hard to beat. We also have other competitions as well."
The bear looked over his shoulders at the boy. "You've seen the control over the element that captain had, and that's only the tip of the ice berg."
Phillip's vision was still watching where he was going to see the training grounds come up into view. "So, why're you guys back? I thought you were going to be gone for a while."
"We were, but ended up having to come back because of the all of the trouble that was caused." The bear groaned.
They all stopped in the middle of the training grounds and Phillip waited to see what they were up too. "Time to see what they've been teaching you," the bear said while his human took Phillip's bag and sword away from him. Once Zach had moved off to the side, the bear charged at the boy. Phillip didn't have much time to react as the bear threw a punch. The boy held up his arms and blocked the attack, but felt a twinge of pain in his arm from the punch. The bear grinned and he swung his leg out, tripping the boy. "Blocked well, but reaction is still tad bit slow."
"Well, I'm tired," Phillip huffed as he got back to his feet. "I wasn't even given a heads up!"
"So you need to be told when you're about to fight?" The bear asked. The boy shook his head after he got up on his feet. Before he could get ready, the bear was already over him throwing a punch downward. The boy quickly tumbled to the side and got to his feet and into a stance before Xavier turned and charged. Phillip and the anthro fought against one another for a couple hours before Zach called it quits. The boy was hunched over and breathing heavily for air and felt sore all over. "You need a lot of work." The bear laughed as he slapped Phillip on the back hard enough to make the boy stumble.
The boy shook his head as he headed over to his gear. He picked up his sword and reached for his bag, but stopped when he saw the bear pick it up first and gave the human a smile. All three began their walk back to the barracks. "Now I'm going to need a shower." Phillip said softly.
The bear chuckled. "Yeah me and Zach too, before we head home." Phillip nodded as they made their way to the barracks. Many of the anthros were already dressed in their civilian clothing and were heading out for the evening when they arrived. While the two headed into the bathroom, Phillip walked into the room and laid out his blankets before falling into the bedding. He laid there for a while drifting in and out of sleep. When he heard the door slam shut the boy looked up to see Krins standing in front of the doorway with a small smile, but his ears laid back.
"Sorry, did I wake you?" the anthro asked.
Phillip let out a small grunt, lifting himself up from his bed. "No, was just about to go take a shower."
The cougar smiled and headed over to his chest and after opening it, he went though it trying to find something. "Well don't mind me; I just forgot something and then I'm off to the village."
The boy lazily went over to his chest and started to gather his towel and soap before leaving and heading off into the bathroom. Phillip was more tired then he thought as he slowly walked into the bathroom. He could hear the water running in the shower area, so he figured that Zach and Xavier were still showering. The boy walked over to a bench and was about to set his things down until he heard a low grunt. Phillip looked behind him but didn't see anyone but the sound happened again. The boy slowly moved over to the showers and peeked inside. It didn't register at first when he saw Zach against the wall with the bear behind him, until the bear thrusted his hips forward and the human gasped. His eyes widened as his brain clicked.
"Oh shi-" the boy gasped as he quickly covered his mouth and quickly rushed out of the bathroom as quietly as he could.
Right as soon as he exited he slammed into Krins, causing them both slam onto the floor. "What the fuck?" the cat cursed as he sat up.
Phillip looked up at Krins and started to babble. "I-I didn't mean, they were but I was just and...he."
The cougar quickly placed his paw over the human's mouth. "Whoa there. Let's slow down for a sec." The cat slowly got them both to their feet. "Ok, calmly tell me what happen."
The human gave the cougar a nod before the anthro removed his paw from the boy's mouth. "I was just getting ready to take a shower when I heard a noise. I went over to the shower and I saw Zach and Xavier..." the boy looked down at the floor and blushed.
"Well?" The cougar asked crossing his arms and motioning for the boy to continue.
"Um..." The boy thought of a way to tell the cat. "Together..." he whispered.
Krins gazed curiously at the boy while he tried to piece together what he was talking about, 'they're always together because they're bonded, so why was he freaking out about tha-' The cougar's eyes widen as he grinned. "They were fucking?" He stated with a bit of enjoyment.
The boy blushed and nodded. Krins tried his best not to laugh as he took the boy by the shoulders and led him back into their room. Once the door closed the cougar couldn't contain himself. He toppled over laughing while Phillip stood by the wall. After a while the anthro calmed down and sat up. "Sorry the whole situation's funny. It's normal for a human to be intimate with his or her anthro, but those two hard heads? Wow!" The cat laughed, tossing his head back.
The boy thought for a little. "Will I have to do that...?" the boy asked still in a whisper.
The cat saw the look on the boy's face, causing his smile to disappear. The anthro got up to his feet and walked over to the boy and placed his paws on his shoulders, but with the contact, he could feel the boy shiver a little. "Listen to me, your anthro will want nothing more than your happiness. If you don't want to lay down with your anthro that way, then say so; he'll respect your wishes." The anthro moved his paw under the human's chin and lifted it up so that they could look each other in the eyes. Krins gave the boy a smile before leaning in and touching his nose with the human. "Your happiness is all we care about." Before pulling back and patting the boy on the shoulder. "If you ever need to talk you can come see me," he said, reassuringly before walking out through the door into the hallway. The anthro passed by the bathroom when Zach and Xavier were walking out and couldn't help but grin.
Phillip stood in his spot for a bit longer, everything flowing through the boy's head at a rapid pace. 'Could I do that? Would I be able to have sex with one of them?' He shook his head slowly and heard some talking from the hall. When he looked out into the hall all saw were Zach and Xavier both walking out to the stairs. Phillip sighed, gathering his things and quickly went back into the bathroom and took the shower he was supposed to have taken before. After he was finished, the boy came back into the room and put his things away then crawled into his bed, trying to get some rest.
The boy didn't get the sleep he was hoping for. He was still lying on his back, wide awake as everyone started to come back to the room a few at a time; some he could tell were drunk from the staggering and slurring of words. Others were dragging their feet from being tired. One by one, they all got changed and into their beds. It wasn't long until he was able to hear some of their snoring, and still Phillip laid there awake. He tried his best to sleep, but everything that has happened to him, from being like an object for possession, even though he forgave the dog, to finding out that the anthro that bonds to him might want to have sex. With all that going around in his head, sleep was the least of the boy's worries.
Phillip sat up in his bedding and looked around. The room was completely silent, save for the snoring of the anthros. The human slowly crawled out of bed and went over to his chest and put on his civilian clothing and boots on before quietly walking out the door. Phillip walked down the steps to the first floor then right out the barracks door. A walk around the base sounded like a good idea to help clear out his head even though it was so late in the night.
Not really having a set direction, Phillip wandered aimlessly around until he saw that he was in front of one of the barns. With a small sigh he opened the door and went inside. All the hounds were either sleeping or lying down. Scar was one of the Hounds that was still awake and was more than glad that he was there. The massive hound quickly got up to his feet as soon as the boy was in view. Phillip walked up to the stable to be meet with a muzzle that came over the small door and pushed into the boy's chest. Phillip smiled, hugging the massive creature and laid his head on the Hound's forehead.
The boy closed his eyes for a little and just enjoyed the hound's presence, not hearing the door shut. Phillip soon leaned back and his eyes darted to the side when he caught the movement of someone and froze. The white lion standing off to the side seemed to have a sad expression on his face, but still smiled, walking over to the boy.
"Enjoying yourself?" Frasit asked. The boy gave the lion a small nod, not saying anything.
"It's kind of late don't you think?" the lion asked.
The boy didn't respond, but was nudged softly Scar. Phillip looked at the hound and smiled, reaching out and scratching the creature behind the ear. "Couldn't sleep."
The lion chuckled. "Yeah, with my work I don't get much sleep either." The captain walked up beside the boy and looked at the hound. "He really likes you."
"Yeah, seems like it," the boy said with a chuckle.
The lion looked at Phillip and thought for a moment, before grinning. "Then it's settled."
Phillip looked over to the lion, a little confused. "What is, sir?"
The lion patted the human on the shoulder before walking away. "You'll be riding Scar for the race during the festival." Before the boy could protest the lion looked back at him and continued. "You look like you have a lot on your mind. I'll give you some alone time to help you sort things out."
Phillip looked down towards the floor before looking back at the hound, Scar's tail was wagging happily and was bouncing on his front paws. A smile came across the boy's face as he looked over to the lion. "Fine, I'll give it a try."
"Good, I know you'll do well," Frasit said, walking out of the barn. The boy smiled and looked at the hound.
Phillip gave the hound one last stroke on the muzzle before walking out. He could hear Scar whimper through the door to the barn. The boy noticed the lion enter one of the barracks doors as he walked to his own. He strode back into his room and quietly laid back down into his bed.
"Where did you go?" the boy heard from his left.
Phillip rolled over to his side, noticing the outline of the cougar. "Just went for a walk."
The boy heard the Cougar chuckle. "Didn't run into the captain, did you?"
"Yeah, I did." The boy said, letting out a chuckle of his own.
"Yeah, the lion likes to walk around the base for a while late at night. Something about it helps him remember his human that he used to have." The cougar whispered softly.
Phillip gave worried look, though he knew the cat couldn't see it. "What happened?"
The cat let out a long sigh. "Something about they were in a huge fight and at some point the captain was knocked out, he woke up in the medical ward a few days later but he found out a little later that his human was K.I.A."
"K.I.A.?" the boy asked.
The cat let out another sigh. "It means killed in action." Phillip felt a knot in his stomach. "Don't worry about it too much kid. Try and get some sleep." The anthro said. Phillip could make out the cat rolling over to face the other way.
Phillip lay on his back, looking up at the ceiling. The thought of everything that was happening to him slowly starting to fade, but thinking of a race he would have to do soon was still fresh in his mind all the way until he finally fell asleep.
To be continued...
