The small airport was oddly busy in the tropical gloom. Spotlights lit the runways as small and large planes took off and landed. One small Boeing 737-800 Series had just landed and was in the process of unloading it's passengers and their luggage. The gaggle of tired passengers arrived at the border control and waited patiently in line. Soon they were collecting their baggage from the long conveyor belts. One particular passenger stood out though. She was reasonably tall with a white stripe running down her back and tail, much like a skunk. She was obviously a wolf though, except for the bat ears protruding from her back. She was wearing a pair of female cargo shorts and a tank-top. She grabbed her rucksack and headed towards the airport exit.

Eclipse stepped into the muggy night air. She had decided to come to the tropics for a backpacking holiday in the jungle. There was a well mapped route with specially made clearings for camping in along the way. She had decided to go it alone, mainly because none of her friends wanted to risk getting bitten or stung or poisoned etcetera. So now she headed out of the airport and towards the small town that had grown up around it. Apparently the walking route began about five minutes from the edge of the town. But before that, she needed to register and then get someone to show her the route's beginning. Soon she was standing in the brightly lit registry room of the company that had made the route through the jungle. They seemed a bit shocked that Eclipse wanted to start the walk now, but Eclipse insisted. So eventually she was being led through the town and towards the dark, looming jungle.

At the beginning of the rough path that had been hacked through the jungle, there was the first of many camping clearings. Eclipse set up her small tent and turned in for the night. She was up early the next day to begin the week long hike through the jungle. She was looking forwards to the adventure, and wanted to start early. It seemed only one other person shared her enthusiasm. He was a young, slender reptilian of some sort. He had smooth emerald scales and a long tail. Eclipse gave him a surreptitious glance as he bent over to pack his tent.

'Nice ass.' she thought

She was finished before him, so she straighted up, and slung her backpack over her back, adjusting her wings so they were comfortable. She picked up her walking stick and proceeded into the dense jungle. The path wasn't the best in the world, but it was reasonably wide, and quite easy to follow. She stepped onto the carpet of dead leaves and vines, and was instantly swallowed by a lush green world, full of animal noises. The smell of damp leaves filled the air, and Eclipse was somewhat surprised by the sudden change. As she walked, she looked about her, enjoying the forest as much as possible before the oppressive humidity, that would come as the day progressed, sapped the enjoyment out of this experience. She eventually came to a fallen log by the side of the road that had been carved into a bench. She checked under and around the log for snakes and spiders before sitting down, you never could be too careful in a tropical rainforest. It was midday and the heat was already oppressive. She took out her water bottle and took a long gulp. There were plenty of places to fill it up in the camping clearings. After putting her water back in her pack, she took out the travel brochure which had the route of the walk on the back. It was a twenty five mile hike to a special resort at the heart of the rainforest. There was a Camping clearing every five miles along the route, and each clearing had a first aid shack, several toilets and water points, and a place where food could be purchased.

Not that Eclipse minded these amenities, but she found herself thinking this took away the wild aspect of hiking through the jungle. She was about to get up and leave, when she felt something slide past her ankle. She looked down and saw a long green snake slithering past. Eclipse waited patiently for it to pass, but it suddenly stopped on her shoe. She pursed her lips, and opened the front pocket of the bag and pulled out a book on all the various snakes and spiders in the rainforest. She flipped through the snake section until she found a snake that matched the description of the one by her feet. Apparently it was an Green Tree Boa, but Eclipse had a feeling this wasn't a boa. She gently moved her foot and slowly got up, putting the book back in her bag. She took one step away, and felt a sharp pain on her calf. She yelped and jumped into the air.

"You little fucker!" she shouted

"Don't worry, he's not venomous." Said a voice from behind her.

She turned and saw the reptilian from the first camp standing behind her. Up close she could tell he was a snake anthropoid, although a rare one as he had legs.

"How do you know?" Eclipse asked, inspecting her leg, a small trickle of blood running through her fur.

"Because its non-venomous." The snake replied, with a smile "My names Meekreous by the way."

"Eclipse." Eclipse said.

"Come on then Eclipse, the next camp isn't that far away and you need to get that leg treated so it doesn't become infected."

Twenty minutes later they emerged into the clearing, anthropoids were either just leaving, eating or various other activities. They headed for the first aid shack and Eclipse had her bite cleaned and bandaged.

"Is the bandage really necessary? Seems somewhat pointless to me."

"Plasters and band aids don't stick to fur." Meekreous said with a smile.

"Shut up."

A little while later, Eclipse was setting up her tent in the clearing. It wasn't that late in the day, but there was a forecast of a heavy storm on it's way. No sooner had Eclipse finished putting her bag in her tent, the heavens opened and a great deluge of rain came hammering down. Eclipse dived into her tent and zipped it shut. She could hear the rain hammering on the tent.

"Well...my first tropical rainstorm..." she muttered

After about half an hour, the rain petered out into a fine drizzle. The lack of noise caused Eclipse to awaken from her doze and go to the door of the tent. She unzipped it and looked outside. It was very wet, as to be expected after a topical rainstorm. She crawled out the tent and stood up, the ground squishing under her feet. She looked around and spotted Meekreous lying in a hammock tied between two trees with a tarpaulin above his head. He was reading a book, but paused, looked to his left, then to his right and saw Eclipse. He smiled and waved, at that precise moment, the bite on Eclipse's leg throbbed...not painfully, but it definatly throbbed.

That night, Eclipse was lying on her airbed looking up at the roof of her tent. It was raining again. The light of the moon illuminating the occasional large raindrop. Having so much fur didn't help either. Her mind wandered to Meekreous out in his hammock. Not having lots of fur, being a reptile, and sleeping in a hammock probably helped with the heat. Maybe if she did this again, she might bring a hammock and a tarp. Soon though, the pitter patter of the rain had sent her off into a deep sleep. As she slept, a low silhouette moved through the grass next to her tent. There was the quiet sound of a zip opening slightly, and then a soft slithering along the floor of the tent. Eclipse stirred slightly in her sleep as the bite on her legged throbbed slightly, and then was still again. The head of a large python appeared over the edge of her bed, it's long forked tounge flicking out. It raised its head so it could study Eclipse's naked form. It's eyes twinkled ice blue for a moment, before it slowly approached Eclipse. It gently coiled around her body keeping her still. Eclipse tried to roll over but couldn't, her eyes flickered. The python moved swiftly, and sank a pair of short fangs into the artery in her bicep. Eclipse soon stopped moving and seemed to smile. The python gently tightened its grip and moved it's head down until it was between her legs.

She strode confidently along the path, enjoying the Jungle. It wasn't as hot as it had been the day before, either that, or she was finally acclimatising to the forest. Everything was wet from the rain that had fallen during the night. The ground squelched under her boots as she walked. The path began to gradually slope upwards, until Eclipse emerged from the trees onto a ridge over looking the forest. The ridge had been cleared of trees and made into a viewing platform. Eclipse walked to the edge of the ridge and looked down. It was a sheer drop for about ten feet before going down into a steep slope, where the forest began again. As Eclipse withdrew from the edge, the ground gave a dizzying lurch. Eclipse froze, realizing the the ridge was actually just made of loose dirt, and that all the heavy rainfall had loosened it. She moved slowly back and the ground physically sank. Eclipse yelped and leapt back, landing with a heavy thud on firmer ground. Not a moment too soon either. Her sudden movement had dislodged the edge of the ridge and sent a cascade of mud down into the rainforest. Eclipse got Shakily to her feet and gave a long sigh of relief. She edged slowly to the new edge of a much firmer ridge and looked down. The slope was somewhat browner than it had been before. She put one of her hands down to steady her as she stood, when the patch of earth she touched gave way. There were a few terrifying seconds as Eclipse desperately tried to regain her balance, before she vanished over the edge of the ridge.

The few desperate seconds of free fall seemed to pass in slow motion. Eclipse fell down the sheer face of the ridge, desperately trying to bring her wings into play. Unfortunately, her back pack prevented her from opening them fully, so she simply flipped herself around so her back was facing the ground. Eclipse pulled her wings in tight, and let her back pack take the brunt of the impact. She hit the slope with a crash that jarred her skull. There were a few seconds when it seemed like she had stopped but soon began to move again. She slid down the slope on her back, the backpack acting like a sled on the muddy ground. Eclipse grabbed out wildly, and her hand came into contact with a vine. She grabbed it and jerked to a halt. She paused for a few moment trying to get her breath back. She knew she had to loose the backpack if she wanted to stop her unexpected side trip here. She wriggled out of the straps and to pull herself up when the vine snapped. She toppled backwards and landed on her backpack, which took off again.

This time she was lying on her stomach as the back pack slid down the hill. It began to pick up speed until the trees around her were green blurs. She shot through the forest, hanging on with a look of grim determination. She scraped several trees and had to duck low vines in case they caught her neck and snapped it like a twig. She looked ahead through watering eyes and saw the ground in front of her end.

"Fuck." She hissed, and shot out into thin air.

Eclipse seemed to float for a minute, before plummeting down into the hidden ravine. She fell for a good fifty feet, until she hit the bottom with a loud splat.

Roughly ten seconds passed before Eclipse sat up and wiped the mud from her face. It seemed that a great deal of the rainwater had fallen into this short ravine hidden by the trees, and turned the floor into about four feet of soft gloopy mud. Eclipse got to her feet and swayed slightly. She reached into the mud and hauled out her bag. The front was shredded and most of her equipment was ruined. She pulled out her water canteen and...a machete?

Eclipse pulled out the long thick blade and looked at it. She hadn't packed this...she didn't even own a machete. There was a note with it, which she opened with her fingertips.

"You may find this more useful than I - Meekreous"

Eclipse blinked. She wondered when he had managed to slip her this? Maybe it was when he was helping her along the path after she had been bitten. He certainly looked as if he wouldn't need it. She shrugged and strapped the blade to her belt, slung the canteen of water over her shoulder, and slipped up in the mud. She vanished under the light brown surface for a few moments before emerging, spluttering from the ooze.

"Fuck!" she spat, and got gingerly to her feet.

Now completely coated in mud she began to make her way slowly along the ravine wall, hoping to find an exit of some sort. After a while, the ravine began sloping upwards, towards what sounded like a waterfall. Soon Eclipse was scrambling over wet rocks, the mud running from her in thin rivulets in the spray. She found the waterfall and stood greatfully under it. Mud and fir did not mix. She stretched her wings and let the cold water wash them off as well. Once she was (moderately) clean, she proceeded to look for a way out.

After more than an hour, Eclipse found a thick curtain of vines that led up about six feet to the edge of the ravine. She tugged hard on the vines, but they held. After a few moments of hard climbing, Eclipse had pulled herself over the edge of the ravine and lay panting on the forest floor.

"Gawd...never...doing....this...again..." she panted, before getting up and looking around. She had no clue where she was, all the jungle looked the same. Her compass had smashed in her bag, so it was useless. She decided to follow the ravine back, and maybe find the trail she had left through the forest. She began to walk, occasionally having to hack a path with the machete. Eventually, she came across the place where she had gone over. She could see the scuff marks where she had slid over the edge of the ravine, she could even see her torn pack at the bottom. But when she looked around, the track she must have made was gone...that or she simply couldn't find it. There weren't even any broken twigs or scattered leaves. Eclipse stood in thoughtful silence for a moment, before she head straight ahead, following the direction of the scuff marks by the ravine. She paused only briefly to drink some water from the canteen before continuing. But after almost an hour, she was well and truly lost. She ground her teeth before exploding.

Having lost her tent, she had had to make a makeshift bed in the branches, much like some of the apes she had seen. She wasn't sure how stable it would be, so she found a long strong vine and tied one end securely to a branch, and the other end around her waist. If she did fall off, the fine would at least slow her fall. She found herself very tired after the events of that day, and was soon fast asleep.

Eclipse woke early in the morning the next day, feeling oddly damp. A Layer of dew had formed on her fur during the night. She sat up and stretched, before clambering down the tree onto the forest floor. She looked around and sighed. The first thing she needed was some food, and after a little searching, she found a mango tree. There were several hanging from the branches that were ripe, so she shook them down and ate them. Feeling much better, she headed off in the direction she had originally been heading in. She new she would come across something eventually. What she didn't know, was that in the underbrush, a long green snake was following her. As she walked, it moved closer and closer, until it was just behind her feet. When she paused to take a sip of water, it struck. It's fangs sank into Eclipse's ankle.

Eclipse felt a sharp pain in her ankle and span around. Then she stopped, and gaped. She was no longer standing in the jungle. She was standing in a dry granite cave, with a soft sandy floor. Holes in the roof of the cave at random intervals let light in, illuminating the cave with a soft glow. She looked around for something that could have bitten her, but could see nothing. Although if she had checked, she would have seen a tattoo of a green snake, winding up the back of her leg. She looked around the cave. It looked like a sort of connecting hub, with several tunnels joining to it. The tunnels were made from the same lightish grey granite, with similar sandy floors. There seemed to be long wide grooves running in the sand, like something had slithered or crawled along on its belly. There was an oddly dry, musky smell in the air. Eclipse found it oddly appealing, like the smell of a pet snakes tank. She headed towards the only tunnel that seemed to be heading upwards. Although she had no idea how she had got to the cave, she was more concerned about getting out, than how she got in. After what seemed like hours of twisting passageways, Eclipse came to a fork in the path. Both paths began to slope down again.

"Shit...now what?" she muttered

As if to answer her question, a loud hissing roar came from the right path. Eclipse froze with terror. Whatever had made that roar sounded big, and close.

"Fucking...move!" she squeaked to herself, and took off down the left passageway.

She sprinted through the sand, and skidded round a corner, almost losing her balance. She ran along the tunnel, not looking where she was going. This is probably why she ended up falling into the pit in front of her. The sudden change from horizontal at speed, to vertical and falling caused Eclipse to do a backwards somersault. She landed with a surprisingly soft thud in the pit. The floor felt oddly smooth and...alive?!

She looked down and saw that the pit was filled with all manner of snakes. They seemed to be able to come and go through holes in the side of the pit. It wasn't long before Eclipse was almost totally submerged in the writhing bodies. She felt her wings bing coiled up, and snakes sliding into her tattered clothes. She flapped her wings hard, sending snakes flying, and carried herself out the pit. She landed on the other side panting.

"Out of the frying pan...and into the fire." A low, seductive voice said.

Eclipse looked up and gulped

"Well shit." She said

In front of her was a snake Anthropoid. But not an ordinary anthropoid. This one was big...really big. From the waist down, he was forty feet of powerful coils. He was covered in light, dusty green scales, with a greenish cream underbelly. He had piercing ice blue eyes, and a worrying smile was curling his lips. "You wouldn't have got very far, this way leads to my sleeping chambers." He said

She landed on the other side in a full sprint and didn't look behind. She was sure that Meekreous was much faster than her, but all she needed was a hole big enough, so she could escape. She ran down the tunnel and stopped. She had suddenly felt very woozy and tired. She looked down at her ankle and saw a small green snake slithering away from her.

"Ahhh...son of a bitch..." she said, slumping to her knees. Her vision began to blur and she dropped to her hands. She tried to move, but ended up falling flat on her face. Eclipse awoke some time later, feeling woozy. She sat up and her head span so much she flopped back onto the bed again. Eclipse gaped at him

"On the contrary..." Meekreous said, slithering closer " It is twenty eight degrees and very humid in here."

Eclipse backed away, realizing the only way out was a round hole, six feet from the floor.

"You can try and escape if you insist...but you will only get lost again."

Eclipse was speechless at this point, simply staring at the snake. There was apparently no use in hiding anything from him if he could see it anyway. He reached out a hand and Eclipse backed away even more.

"There is no where to go, why not give in to what your body is craving so much?"

Eclipse was very much aware that what he was saying was true. Her mind was thinking of escape, but the rest of her body was thinking of something quite different.
