Matheau+Beijore 7: Meet Aurokhan
::Four months later::
Aurokhan awoke earlier than usual. He couldnt sleep. He was hyper! He wanted to play! But his sisters were asleep like always, and there was no way he could wake his father. His father would sleep even if the cave collapsed on him.....and his mother didnt really play. She was more of an observer to make sure that they didnt hurt themselves, or play to rough. The typical mother. He sighed deeply. He was only almost five months old, and he couldnt talk yet. Oh sure, he could form the words in his mind and speak through it, but he could not speak anything other than 'daddy' or 'mamma'. And 'no'....he loved that word. But only because it seemed to frustrated his parents so much. It was amazing that one two letter word could cause so much frustration. He got out of the nest, which in his own opinion it was a little ridiculous that he was so old and his mother still wanted him to sleep there. Almost as soon as one of his little talons touched down on the floor, his sister Jocylyn's voice echoed in his mind.
"And just where do you think you are going, brother?" She asked him. "I am going to get up and exercise, sister. I cannot sleep, and i certainly do not wish to remain confined in this nest." "You know that momma and pappa are gonna be mad at you.....they got mad last time you got out of the nest." "Thats only because i got hurt, sister....i tripped over the side and fell on my snout. The same thing will not happen again." "If you say so brother....but i am just going to stay here in the nest like mamma and pappa want me too. And Sasha doesn't look like she's going to be moving anytime soon either."
Aurokhan merely ignored her and climbed out of the nest, nearly making the same mistake again as his hind leg got caught on the edge of the nest. He carefully lifted it over the edge and settled down on the cool floor of the cave, stretching luxuriously. He stretched his little wings too. Barely ten feet in length yet, and not nearly old enough to fly, he could not wait until it was time for his mother to teach him to fly. He dreamed of soaring high in the air, dipping through the clouds. He could almost feel the wind under his wings and against his face. Oooh, how he so wanted to fly. That was one thing that confused him about his father. He had no wings....he had no talons, he could not breathe fire. He didnt even have scales! So how was he a dragon? How was he their father? He could not figure it out....and he was respectful, so he knew that he could never ask. But he knew in his heart that he was their father. If you put him and Sasha side by side, you could easily see the resembleance. But how? How was it possible? He wanted to know...and he knew that if he pried enough he would get the awnsers easy enough. Maybe he would ask mother sometime. There should be no problem with asking his mother a few seemingly innocent questions about how their father was their father. He made up his mind, and decided that he would do it. He just had to wait for his mother to wake up and....
"Aurokhan Stratford, what in the world do you think you are doing out of that nest again?!" Beijore said somewhat angrily. It looked like he did not have to wait long at all until he could ask his mother the questions he wanted to ask. Or maybe he did. She looked REALLY angry this time. "I...uh....i wasnt tired anymore mamma...i wanted to get out and stretch...." "you are too young to be getting out of the nest unsupervised and playing all alone, Aurokhan. Do you know what would happen to your father and I if we lost you, or you hurt yourself badly? What would we do then?"
"I....Im sorry, mother, i just....i just wanted to get out of the nest and play. I woke up earlier than normal and i had so much energy, i just didnt know what to do with it all, and...." aurokhan stuttered helplessly, squirming under his mother's glare. "You were just disobeying your father and I again, young man." "Oh, Beijore, hes a growing young boy. Hes going to be full of energy. And you cant expect to be able to keep him in that nest forever. What are you going to do when hes as big as you? Are you going to make a bigger nest?" Of course that was his father, coming to his rescue again. Aurokhan found that he did that alot. He didnt know if it was just the normal father and son bond thing, or if his father just did it because he really felt sorry at all of the scoldings his mother gave him. Out of him and his two sisters, he always got in trouble the most. He scowled inwardly at that. They were always trying to be the perfect little princesses, and it made everything he did look worse than what it really was. Such as this situation. Aurokhan bet that if his sisters got out of the nest, they wouldnt get scolded. At least not like he did. It stunk to be a male. He almost wished he were a female.
"AUROKHAN! I heard that!" Beijore shouted. Aurokhan cringed. He was thinking out loud again. Yet again, another bad habit of his. Everytime he got lost in his own thoughts, he ended up broadcasting them to everyone in his family. His sisters were currently giggling at him. He felt his scales heat up and turn red, which only made is sisters giggle more and more at him. "I didnt mean to say such things, mother." Aurokhan tried to apologize. But his mother was obviously going to have none of it, and was obviously very very mad. Matheau was trying to come to his defense again, but Beijore was not going to give him a word in now. So Aurokhan did what his father did. He zoned out and gave half nods while his mother scolded him. Only after she was done and stomped off did he come out of his trance. "I think it would be best for you to get back in the nest for awhile while i try to calm your mother down, son." With those words, he started after his wife, and aurokhan crawled back into the nest, pointedly ignoring his sisters jeers and 'i told you sos'
"Aurokhan got in twouble, Aurokhan got in twouble!" they sang in his mind. Still he ignored them, moving to the far side (if it could be called the far side because the nest was so small now) of the nest and settled in, closing his eyes.
"Beijore, Beijore!! Will you please stop!" Matheau shouted at her as she stormed into their room and promptly slammed the door in his face. He staggered back a few steps and rubbed his aching forehead. "Beijore, that was soooo, not nice!" He tried the door and found that it was locked. "Beijore! Please open the door!" "No!" She shouted at him, with what sounded like sorrow in her voice. "Please honey, open the door!" he shouted. The door clicked open, and he went in quickly, to find his mate sitting in the corner of the room, her back to him. "Beijore, whats wrong?" Matheau asked softly. She turned slowly to him, the tears from her crying evident in her eyes and on her blue scaled cheeks.
"Matheau, look at how fast they are growing up! Aurokhan is already growing rebellious....." "Rebelious?! Honey, your over reacting! Hes a four month year old hatchling! We cannot keep them cooped up in that nest much longer! They've almost outgrown the damn thing. Weve got to give them a little more freedom...." Matheau tried to comfort her, pulling her head down onto his lap and stroking her cheek scales, wiping her tears away. "They're growing, they're curious, all they really know of our home here is that nest. You cannot expect them to stay little hatchlings forever.....they are still going to be with us for a long time, but you have to let them grow up. Come on honey.....you see where im coming from, dont you?" She nodded her head slightly upon his lap. "Well, dont you think you should go apologize to your son? Maybe take him out of the nest for once?" She nodded again, and stood up. "You stay here. Im going to do this alone."
Aurokhan was curled up in his small corner of the nest again, when his sisters forced his way into his mind. "Mamma's comin...." Aurokhan kept his mind calm and blank, which he knew was a smart idea to keep him out of further trouble. "Aurokhan, i know your awake." Beijore said softly, picking him up in her arms. His first instinct was to struggle, but this was his mother, so he looked up at her. "Where are we going, mother?" Aurokhan asked her. She said nothing, but carried him towards the entrance of their home. He was getting really scared that his mother was taking him away from his sisters and not saying anything at all to him. When they walked outside, Aurokhan was nearly blinded. He squinched his eyes shut and whimpered into his mother's arms. "Shhhh.....it will be alright, my son. Your eyes will adjust to the light soon....." Beijore said. It took a full ten minutes, but Aurokhan's eyes finally did adjust. And he was attacked by so many different colors and scents that his head spun. The sky was bright blue, and the air was clean and fresh. "M...mother....what is this?" Aurokhan asked. Beijore chuckled softly and moved close to the edge and laid down, laying Aurokhan close to her side. "This, my son, is the outside. The world is the a very, very big place. There are many things to see, and smell, and experiance......Our home is but the smallest part of the world." Beijore said softly. "But our home IS the world to me, mother.....its the center of my existance." "I know, my son." Beijore said. "And im sorry....i tried to make it the only world you would know.....because i love you all so much. You are my first children, my little babies, and i dont want you to grow up...." a small tear slid down her cheek. "Im so sorry. I tried to keep you to myself, keep you isolated...." Aurokhan smiled up to her.
"Its alright mother, i understand" he said, even though he wasnt sure if he did. "Your my mamma.....no matter what happens, that will never change." She smiled and draped a wing over him, hugging him close to her side. And that is the way they sat, sitting outside their home, purring softly in each others company, watching the world move around them.
