Chapter 3

Later that same night.

Nurse Emily Jones hung the last of her clothes up in the closet in her new room at the clinic. She takes a quick glance up at the security monitor that shows a sleeping human in the next room. She watches for a few seconds before turning away and heading into her bathroom. Leaving the bathroom door open, she turns on the shower and lets the water run. Walking back into the room Emily picks up her night gown off the bed and goes back into the bathroom. Minutes later she pulls the night gown on and leaves the bathroom turning out the light as she steps though the door into the bedroom. Stopping at the security monitor she checks on Alex in the next room. Seeing that he is sound asleep she walks over to the bed and climbs in and pulls the covers over her.

"Lights off." Said Nurse Jones as she laid her head down on the pillow and closed her eyes to drift off to sleep.

The next morning.

Alex looks up as Emily comes walking into the room carrying a robe over one arm.

"Good your up already. Lets get you out of bed and get some breakfast." Said Emily as she held out the robe to him.

"Good morning to you too Nurse Jones." Said Alex taking the robe from her and starts to pull the covers back but stops his face redding.

"You're welcome, Alex. And what did I say about calling me Emily?" Asked Nurse Jones with a playful smile as she left to get breakfast ready.

The walls were painted a soft blue, with a white Grecian style molding, and several silver colored fan lamps placed strategically around the room, kept the lighting bright but not blinding. The living room was modestly furnished with queen Anne style furniture made of cherry wood. A silver colored wide screen multi-use monitor was on one wall with a black velvet seven sectional couch made for furs in front of it that was placed against the wall across from it. A couple of blue and black velveted lounge chairs were positioned just right, next to the couch for perfect viewing of the monitor. A few low tables between the chairs and couch where placed so anyone sitting on the couch or chairs could reach them. And on the far wall a large glass door leading outside to a patio with a table visible through the door.. Sunlight was streaming in the open curtains giving the room a cozy feel.

"Surely this isn't one of the rooms at the clinic?" Asked Alex in disbelief as he rolled the chair over to the table.

"Normally your room is for one of the staff to live here at the clinic, on site housing. The same can be said for my room through that door over there." Said Emily as she pointed to the other door on the opposite wall from Alex's.

"So you live here also, didn't see that one coming." Said Alex as he looked at the plate of food in front of him.

"I didn't until last night when Dr. Reynolds offered me a promotion and the room." Replied Emily before she took a drink of a dark liquid from a cup.

"So thats why you were cleaning out your locker in C building yesterday." Said Alex as he picked up a brown piece of something that looked like meat, smelled it before taking a bite.

"Who told you that I cleaned out my locker?" Asked Emily as she set the hot cup down on the table.

"One of the orderlies that brought me over here from the other building last night after you left. And that's one tasty piece of beef, I didn't think anthro's would be meat eaters. But that sure tasted like beef." Said Alex after he finished swallowing.

"Well there are many things that have shown up from time to time I imagine. Not just humans, but animals and even machines. But I wouldn't know to much about that the government keeps all of the stuff they find." Replied Emily taking another drink.

"I can understand why they would do that." Alex replied as he picked up the hot cup by his plate to take a drink.

"How so?" Asked Emily before she took another bite of the bread.

"Well in my world humans in general are greedy to some extant. New advances in medical, electronics and anything else that can be sold for a profit are very guarded and sometimes even killed for. Why should anthro's be any different, other than being covered in fur and in some ways stronger than humans. Almost like coffee but not quite." Answered Alex as he sipped at he cup he was holding then sat it down.

"You compare humans and anthro's like they are the same besides the fur and other body differences." Said Emily somewhat insulted by his opinion.

"I thought a lot last night about what I saw on the monitor yesterday after you left for the night. Anthro's fight over the same things as humans do land, food, mates, and all the other things that come in life. Really we have more in common than some would like to admit from what I've seen so far." Said Alex as he set his spoon down.

"Sorry I don't mean to sound insulted. But what you just said is true now that I think about it, and thats just one of the reasons a lot of anthro's are trying to get the laws changed concerning humans. Thats also why I work at this clinic, because I believe just that. Anthro's and humans are so alike that all should be governed by one law for all, not two separate standards." Replied Emily as she picked up her plate to take into the kitchen as she stood up.

"So what will be going on today?" Asked Alex as he picked up his cup for a drink.

"First I'm supposed to start teaching you about anthro customs and history, then later a lab tech is coming to take some blood for some tests. After the lab tech leaves, then we have lunch. Then Doctor Reynolds has you scheduled for Physical Therapy for as long as you can tolerate it. However I'm not allowed to let you go overboard either." Replied Emily as she washed the dishes in the sink.

"So then it's a full day of learning, having samples taken from places I didn't know a sample could be taken from and then a torture session with Doctor Reynolds for the rest of the afternoon." Said Alex with a chuckling lilt to his voice.

"Eh pretty much, but with a break for lunch." Replied Emily laughing as she poured some more of the hot drink into her cup before starting to clean the dishes.

"Oh, thats right. I don't have any idea about anthro customs or history other than what I have learned from you, Doctor Taylor or Doctor Reynolds. It would be real bad if I unknowing insulted someones family after the procedure is done just to have them rip my head off." Said Alex as he watched her fill the sink with water.

"Customs are easy, it's the history thats going to be fun. Not all history has been recorded, lets just say it's censored by each government carefully." Said Emily before sipping from her cup and setting it down on the counter next to the sink.

"History was one of my better subjects in school. Now math thats were I draw the line, I can understand adding, subtraction and all. But the higher forms of mathematics is beyond me." Replied Alex as he sat his empty cup on the counter for Emily to wash.

"Mine was chemistry, I almost ether blew up the class or knocked everyone out my first time doing an in class lab assignment." Said Emily as she placed the plates into the soapy water.

A knocking on the door interrupts their conversation.

"I'll need blood, saliva and a sample of his seed." Said Johnson as he pulled various pieces of medical equipment from the carrier.

In Doctor Reynolds office.

"No, Commander the last test subject isn't able to do anything more than take simple commands. I told you when I started this project that I needed humans of exceptional intelligence, not and I do stress not; the low intelligence ones you have been sending me for the last couple of years." Said Doctor Reynolds looking at the video image on the computer screen.

"Well doctor, what would you have me do? Import trained humans for your experiment?" Asked Commander Jacobs, a graying lion anthro sitting behind a desk on the computer screen.

"It would make my job easier in the long run, also it would mean that the military wouldn't have to waste a lot of time training them." Said Doctor Reynolds.

"And what of the newest cross over? Are you able to talk with him?" Asked Commander Jacobs.

"Actually Alex is very bright for a human, he astonished Doctor Taylor from the first minute. Among other things he is working out fine so far. The lab is working on a creating a dna retro virus for him as we speak." Replied Doctor Reynolds with a smile.

"Good, when can we pick him up for phase two?" Asked Commander Jacobs.

"Three maybe four months from now when he is through with rehab for his broken foot, and learning to walk again among other things." Replied Doctor Reynolds.

"I thought you told me this would only take a month for the change to complete, not three or four months." Said Commander Jacobs.

"Normally it would take maybe six weeks for the change to be finished after the first injection is given. But do to his injuries he'll be lucky to be walking in 2 months but not in six weeks." Answered Doctor Reynolds.

"You have to understand I'm under a lot of pressure from those I answer to. If this project doesn't start producing favorable results soon those I report to might take actions that I won't be able to stop." Said Commander Jacobs his voice trailing off to almost a whisper.

"I understand, I'll send you an update on Alex by next week with his progress, along with this months required supply order." Said Doctor Reynolds.

"Good I look forward to reading it, remember to mark it for my eyes only or my aide might open it and read it before I do." Replied Commander Jacobs as he cut the video link.

"Damn! This deal is getting worse day after day. But it can't be helped, without the military funding the project the clinic would have closed down months ago. Their funding is the only thing keeping the clinic open, it sure isn't the paying customers." Thought Doctor Reynolds to himself as he pulled out the bottle from his desk drawer and took a drink then returning it to it's place in the desk.

Chapter 4 two weeks later.

Alex, the lab staff has worked very hard to make sure the procedure works on you, I've had them working double shifts for the past two weeks. Now it's down to the moment of truth, do you want to go through with this?" Asked Doctor Reynolds.

"It's ether this procedure or being someones pet for the rest of my life. I'll take the procedure over being a pet any day, even if it damn near kills me." Replied Alex as he watched a lab tech enter the room.

"Well we have refined the procedure somewhat. Instead of you getting a dozen or so shots over the next month, you'll receive two I.V. bags of the retro virus each week for a month. After that you should be a full anthromorph and not even recognizable as once being human." Said Doctor Reynolds as the lab tech rolled a table over with the I.V. kit on it and two I.V. bags.

"So besides the I.V. being stuck in me, am I going to feel any pain from this?" Asked Alex as the lab tech started putting the restraints on Alex's legs.

"The only pain you will feel is the growth of your bones after the second or third week is done. Each I.V. bag has a sedative and pain killer in them to help you to relax and sleep while the retro virus does it's work." Said Doctor Reynolds as he nodded to the lab tech to begin.

Alex watched as the lab nurse pushed the I.V. needle into his arm and taped it down after checking it to make sure she had the vein. Slowly the blue luminescent liquid flowed into his arm, as the liquid flowed into his veins he felt a little tingling.

"This is only the start of the procedure, this I.V. bag is a combination of the retro virus and a good dose of nanobots that will aide in your transformation." Replied Doctor Reynolds.

"Now hang on a second! You didn't say anything about injecting me with nanobots!" Said Alex his tone more tense as the tingling in his veins spread over his body.

"Calm down Alex, the nanobots are designed to help you, not only will they help with the transformation but also with the healing of your broken foot. Do you have a tingling feeling spreading over your body?" Asked Doctor Taylor as she stepped closer to Alex's bed.

"Yeah my arms and legs feel like their asleep, and it's spreading up my stomach and into my chest. Why is the room spinning?" Asked Alex just before his eyes closed and the world went black.

"The sedative is working, now all we can do is wait." Said Doctor Taylor as she watched the readout on the monitor of Alex's vitals.

"Nurse Jones, your to stay with him until he wakes up, and change out that I.V. bag with the second one when the first is empty. Call myself or Doctor Taylor if anything happens." Said Doctor Reynolds as he turned to leave the room.

"Yes doctor Reynolds, can I remove the restraints from him now?" Asked Emily before he could leave.

"No, leave them on. The last thing we need is for him to hurt himself inadvertently when the change starts happening." Replied Doctor Reynolds as he opened the door to leave.

"Is there anything I should watch out for?" Asked Emily a worried tone in her voice, looking at Doctor Taylor.

"Besides him not breathing or his heart stops, no nothing to watch out for. The retro virus and nanobots were tailored on Alex's dna, so theres maybe a one in a million chance that his body will reject them. Don't worry Nurse Jones, we haven't had anyone die from this yet." Replied Doctor Taylor with a smile.

"Doctor Taylor, are you coming?" Asked Doctor Reynolds from the door.

"Yes." Answered Doctor Taylor and she looked at Alex one last time before turning and following Doctor Reynolds out the door.

Emily sat down in one of the chairs to wait. An hour passes and she gets up and changes out the first I.V. bag for the second one. It's when she is checking the I.V. that she notices the first gray hairs to sprout on his left arm. Slowly she pulls the sheet back uncovering his chest and watches as his light chest hair starts to fill in.

"He's already growing fur! Wonder if anything else is changing?" Emily thought to herself as she pulled the sheet off of Alex and looked him over from head to toe.

As she watches, light gray fur starts to cover his body, traveling down his chest and across his stomach to his privates, continuing down to his legs.
