To Tame The Soul, 2
#2 of To Tame The Soul
Well, what started out as a one shot story has turned into a series, how long will it run, I have no idea, but I hope you all enjoy it for as long as it does.
To Tame The Soul 2.
By Wolfie Steel.
Well tonight is another night where I get no sleep, my passed deeds are still coming back to haunt me, most every night is the same, I just see two images, kind of like a before and after, the first image is the Huskies face looking all shocked and frightened, the second and much more disturbing image is the same Husky lying on the floor, his nose completely smashed and blood pouring from it.
Between those two images there is the sound of breaking bones, now that is truly the worst sound to be heard, I now know that I want to find the Husky and to try to atone for my actions, but trying to find him will be like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
Again, as it is most nights I pop a couple of sleeping tablets and then I do at least get a couple of hours sleep. I know that until I make things right with the Husky I will never get a night of unbroken sleep.
I wake up at 9am and quickly run through my morning ritual, ablutions, shower, get dressed and then begin my day. I look at my computer screen to see if I have anyone who is in need of my services. There is a Fox whose son is being picked on at school and it seems that the school is unwilling to do anything about it, I write down the address and then I pick up my car keys.
After a half hour drive I pull up outside a modest two story house, I slowly get out of the car and make my way towards the front door, straightening my shirt and jacket out as I walk. I knock on the door and a few seconds later it is answered by a vixen, she clearly has been crying.
"Miss Hardcastle, my name is Lance Caldwell; I believe that your son is having problems at school?"
The vixen begins to fall forward and I know that I have to act fast to save her from biting on concrete, I quickly wrap my arms around her and slowly help her back into the house. Using my left footpaw I push the front door closed and then lead the Vixen to a sofa that is situated in the living room.
Once at the sofa I slowly and gently ease her down into a sitting position, I then kneel before her and begin to speak in gentle and hushed tones.
"From the fact that you have no strength left I would say that whatever is happening to your son has been going on for a while, am I right?"
The Vixen looks at me with weak, cold and blank eyes and then she gently nods her head.
"Two months now, at first Toby would come home with rips in his school uniform and like any mother I put it down to a fall, but when it had been happening every school day for two weeks I started asking Toby questions about what was going on. At first he was reluctant to tell me, but then eventually he broke down and told me everything"
I gently nod in a knowing fashion, it seems like a pretty much standard bullying but before I make any judgements on what course of action to take, I need to see the evidence for myself. I don't have to wait for long until the young Fox makes his appearance, instantly I'm disgusted by what I see, there are a great many scars on his neck and face from previous attacks, the Vixen then asks the boy to turn around and lift his shirt, at first he is none too sure about doing this, but eventually he does so.
I see a nine inch scar running diagonally across the middle of his back, I close my eyes as I have seen enough, he then lowers his shirt again and then faces me, tears are welling up in his eyes and I stand from the sofa and gently place my paw on his shaking shoulder.
"Guys, I'm ashamed to say this, but I once used to be a bully, a bad one at that, but I finally got my eyes opened when one of my victims fought back, I ended up in hospital for two weeks after that one and it caused me to re-evaluate things, now what I have seen on young Toby's face, neck and back turns my stomach to the point that I know that this problem needs sorting, and fast"
The Vixen looks at me and gives a shaky but knowing nod of her head.
"Mr Caldwell, what do you intend to do about Toby's attackers?"
I turn to the boy and speak.
"Toby, how would you feel about me taking you to school and collecting you at the end of the day?"
The boy looks at me and replies.
"But sir, I don't know what good would that do, the attacks come mostly during the school day, usually when I head to the gym for PE"
It is then that I make up my mind.
"Then in that case, I will stay within sight of you at all times, giving your attackers no chance to get at you again"
The Vixen speaks up.
"That sounds like a good idea, but the school will not allow that"
I look towards the Vixen with a steely look on my face.
"Madam, I don't intend to give the school a say in the matter, they are the ones who are failing your son, I aim to give your son a fighting chance at getting an education. Maybe if I make enough of a nuisance of myself it will force the school into action, the thing is though I don't really care what happens, I will stay with young Toby until his life gets better, even if that means staying with him for six months or more"
The Vixen stands up and hugs me tight.
"It is good to finally meet someone who has the balls to stand up to the establishment and do what is needed, if the school have any problem with you Mr Caldwell I will personally tell them that you are with Toby on my instructions"
Once we pull away from the hug both the Vixen and Toby shake my paw, I head towards the door and to my car, after all it is going to be my sleeping quarters for at least the next couple of nights.

The following morning I wake at 7:30am and begin to make myself look presentable because I know that at 8:00am I will begin my day of work. Once I have made myself presentable I stand at the side of my car waiting for Toby to make his appearance, I know that the school is within walking distance so that is what we will do, then at least it shows any would be attackers that Toby has a new friend to walk with.
As we approach the school's main gates I see Toby begin to shiver.
"Have you seen some of the bullies Toby?"
The young Fox points out a large and imposing looking Horse standing at the main doors of the school, he is surrounded by his clan, all of whom look as though they are trouble. I gently place my paw on Toby's shoulder and urge him towards the doors.
As we get closer the Horse blocks the way in through the doors, time for me to earn my keep.
"Excuse me please; Toby needs to get into school"
The Horse snickers and then replies.
"So, baby Foxie has got his fag friend to walk him to school, aww how cute"
I stand between Toby and the Horse and begin to bare my teeth, a low growl erupting from my throat.
"I've asked you nicely once to get out of the way, and now I'm telling you, step aside or things will start getting ugly"
The Horse gives a fake shiver and then taunts me.
"It's too late for getting ugly, because you're already here"
At this the Horse's crowd begin to laugh out loud, they laugh right up until the moment that I grab the Horses head and bring it down to connect with my knee, suddenly silence fills the air as I throw the Horse behind me and to the floor. I look to the crowd of dead beats.
"Okay, who's next?"
The crowd of guys now disperse allowing Toby to enter the school, before I follow him in I head back to where the Horse is lying, I kneel down and lift up his head, he has a small nose bleed but nothing that won't heal over in time.
"Now Horse I want you to know that I'm not afraid of you or any of the piss ant bullies in this place, and that I will be with Toby for as long as he needs me, if anyone so much as touches him they better hope that their medical insurance is paid up. Don't bother going to the school principal because it seems that they don't do anything about bullies"
With that I let the Horses head drop from my paw and head into school following the young Fox. After two weeks of me being with Toby I'm finally asked to go and speak to the principal, at long last it seems that my actions are having an effect.
I knock on the principal's office door and he allows me entry, I walk in and find a smartly dressed Tiger sitting at his desk.
"So you are the guy who has been shadowing young Toby Hardcastle and generally making your presence felt huh?"
I nod my head gently in affirmation, the Tiger continues to speak.
"I don't much care for people like you coming into my school and throwing your weight around"
I let out a slight giggle as I am ready with my reply.
"Oh so you don't like me being here and yet you have no problem with bullies, which is interesting. To be honest sir I wish I didn't have to come here, but when my clients' son comes home from school most days with either another scar or ripped clothes, or both, and the school does fuck all about it, that is when I have to step in"
The Tiger lets out a deep routed sigh.
"What will it take to get you out of my school?"
Again I give a giggle.
"That is simple good sir, when you are alerted about a bullying problem, do something about it instead of sitting on your ass drinking coffee all day. I will be giving Miss Hardcastle one of my business cards and I will be keeping a record of this job on my computer, so if you don't do anything to stop the bullies and I get a further call from either Miss Hardcastle or anyone from the school that is being bullied, I will return, and I will also inform the school authorities, after that I doubt very much that you will be able to stay in your job"
With that I turn around and head out of the office and towards the front of the school to wait for Toby. After a five minute wait, a happy young Fox meets me at the doors and we both make the journey home. We are met at the door of the Fox's home by his mother, a smiling young Vixen.
"Mr Caldwell, I can't thank you enough for what you have done for Toby"
She hands me a small white envelope with some money in it.
"I'm afraid it isn't much, but being a lone parent it is all that I have"
I put one of my business cards into the envelope along with the money and I hand it back to the Vixen.
"Miss Hardcastle, I won't take your money, all I ask is that you keep my card handy, and if you should need me at any time just pick up the phone and call, even if it is just for a chat. I have told the principal at the school that I will be giving you the card and keeping a record of my visit on my computer, so if the bullying starts again, call me, and I will make sure that the school authorities do something about it"
A lonely tear falls from the Vixens eye as she whispers the words thank you. I bow my head slightly and head back towards my car, the drive home gives me time to reflect on the events of the last two weeks, it also makes me more determined to locate the Husky from my nightmares.
