#13 of Cabin Break

There was a cold chill in the air and the slowly changing weather wasn't the cause. Sara had stood at the large front window of the cabin watching Sam for some time. He wasn't his usual lively self and that worried her. She had told Sam two days ago about her gigantomastia problem and ways she was looking at keeping it under some sort of control. Sam had understood and was supportive as he didn't want her chest to become grossly over sized.

Sara had only seen Sam like this once before; shortly after his father had died. She knew why, all too well. They were sharing themselves completely with each other, no borders or boundaries; just their unconditional love for each other. However since they had been resisting mating for the last few days, Sam felt as if something special had been taken away from him; just like when his father had died.

Sara was feeling sorry for Sam; she wanted nothing more than to lie on a soft blanket in front of the fire and make love to him now, but she knew she had to resist and give her body a little time to adjust to the sudden changes she had gone through in her sexual as well as emotional life.

Not wanting to unnecessarily tease Sam, she had dressed more appropriately for the day, with dark jeans, boots and a thick turtleneck sweater. She tied her hair back in a loose pony tail as she finally decided to try and get Sam to come out of his shell.

Sam could hear his mother slowly approaching him from behind as he gazed out over the lake. He had been sitting out on the grass for over an hour, letting the world drift by at its own pace as his mind swirled with thoughts. A moment later he felt his mother pressed against his back as her arms gently encircled his upper body. "Penny for your thoughts?" Sara said softly as she rested her head on his shoulder.

Sam rested back into his mother's embrace and laid his paws over hers. "I'm just feeling a little cut off that's all."

"Cut off? How do you mean Baby?"

Sam shrugged his shoulders gently. "I don't know, it's just an odd feeling."

Sara gave him a gentle squeeze in her arms. "You're upset aren't you?" Sam thought about it for a short while then nodded. "It's alright to feel a little down Sweetie, I'm not exactly over the moon with our situation at the moment either. Surely there's something better to do than sit out here in the cold before it starts to rain though?"

"I know." He mumbled quietly. "But it's like we're missing out because of what's happened."

Sara sighed softly and nuzzled his cheek. "It's not going to last forever Sweetie; and any way." She paused and turned his muzzle towards hers. They stared at each other for a long moment then fell into a soft and deeply passionate kiss. After a short while their lips parted and they gazed lovingly at each other before Sara brushed her muzzle by her son's ear and continued speaking in little more than a whisper. "It's not like we've been torn away from each other." Sam smiled and turned to face his mother; wrapping his arms around her and murring softly to himself. Sara held him tight and then softly scratched the back of his neck before she released him and started to stand up. Sam grumbled and tried to hold on to her, but she slipped elegantly through his grasp.

"Come on, get up. We can continue this on the sofa, in front of a warm fire." Sam stood up grudgingly, but quickly and hugged his mother again.

It had been the first time in a few days that Sara hadn't worn high heels around the cabin or in town and she suddenly realised when they hugged that Sam had grown over the vacation. He now stood at least two or three inches taller than her. Not that she minded; the idea of being wrapped up in the arms of a big strong male had always appealed to her and for the first time in years, she was getting what she really wanted. She murred softly against his chest before taking his paw and slowly leading him back to the cabin.

Sam turned and looked back out over the mountains and lake and at the dark rolling sky. "It looks like it'll rain again."

Sara smiled and gently rubbed his chest. "Well, we'll have each other's company this time won't we?" She purred as they went indoors.

***

Sam's ears perked up. "Mom, some one's driving up the trail." He grumbled. Sam was beginning to hate intrusions by the site Rangers especially when he was so close to his mother.

Sara groaned and peeled herself away from her son; why now? She wondered. Sara was sure that there wasn't meant to be a site visit by one of the Rangers until tomorrow. She looked down at the mess of ruffled fur beneath her that was her son and smiled. "Good ear's Baby. We don't want to get caught now, do we?" Sam shook his head then found himself squirming as his mother quickly licked the tip of his nose before getting off of the couch that they had both been so comfortable on. Sara softly patted Sam's shoulder as he sat up. "Go tidy yourself up a little Sweetie. With any luck this won't last long." She said plainly as she smoothed her fur down and tied her hair back again.

Sam got up and went to his former room to make himself at least as presentable as a teenager out in the wild should be. He hoped that this wasn't going to be a long visit; he had been quite at ease with the rain softly pattering on the windows and the crackling of the fire, while he and his mother had been tenderly kissing and stroking each other. He didn't say anything but he had enjoyed the simplicity of the moment, even if they were still fully clothed. The gentle tugging and scratching at each other's clothing while they kissed had been a welcome stress relief that was cut tragically short by the arrival of one of the Rangers.

The wind whistled coldly, making the fire flicker as Sara opened the front door of the cabin and stepped out onto the veranda. She brushed some stray hairs from her eyes as the Ranger's jeep pulled up. She didn't recognise the Ranger who stepped out of the vehicle. He was a young male coyote; Sara guessed he was in his mid to late twenties. His fur was a soft brown with patches of grey where it could be seen, his hair was hazel brown and cut short and neat. His Smokey grey eye's looked around the site before they met with Sara's form on the veranda. He smiled as he walked unphased through the rain. "Good afternoon Ma'am." He greeted her cheerfully.

"Afternoon Ranger, is everything alright? I didn't think the site inspections were until tomorrow." Sara replied.

"Actually it's not. We're visiting all the sites to tell people that there's more severe weather heading our way and chances are it'll be here within the next hour or so." He said quickly. "We're just making sure everyone is ready for a rough night that's all."

Sara smiled at the young coyote. "I think we'll be fine, we're quite used to storms."

"We?" The Ranger looked confused and pulled out a small note book. After thumbing through a few pages he stopped and read a few details. "You are Sara...."

She cut him off. "Yes I am. I'm vacationing here with my son."

"Oh! My apologies Ma'am. The details on the board at the base hut weren't exact and were written on in kind of a hurry." Sara was certain that she had heard some disappointment in his voice as he answered her. Not that it mattered; he may be a nice guy and reasonably attractive, but she wasn't interested. She may have flirted with him just as a tease if he hadn't interrupted a particularly tender moment between Sam and herself, even though she was thankful for the weather warning.

"That's ok; I know how these things can be rushed." She said trying to be friendly. She paused for a moment as she looked him over then levelled her voice as she spoke again. "I'm sorry I didn't catch your name and I'm sure I didn't see you when my son and I arrived."

"I do apologise. My name is Andrew, I'm an Emergency Warden. I get called in when things like this happen at short notice or if there's been an accident or something similar." He said as he extended his paw to Sara. She shook paws with him briefly.

Sara stepped back after shaking his paw and looked him over again. "How many more sites do you have to visit?" She asked bluntly.

"About six, I'm expecting the storm to be in full swing by the time I make my way back. It would just be my luck."

Sara smiled "Well I won't keep you, just take care on the track, it's a pain when it's wet."

"Don't I know it." The coyote smiled. "You and your son stay dry tonight ok." He called as he strode back to his jeep then set off again along the trail.

Sara stood out in the wind and rain for a moment making sure the Ranger was gone before she went back inside. Sam sat at the bottom of the stairs and watched his mother closely. "Everything ok Mom?"

She walked over to him and sat by his side. "No. It looks like we're going to get hit with another storm tonight and from the way the guy was talking; it's going to be at least as rough as the last storm."

Sam wrapped an arm around his mother's shoulders and gave her a gentle hug. "Do you want a towel for your hair?" He chuckled.

Sara laughed and pressed close to him. "Awww I thought you like wet wolf Sweetie." They both giggled and held each other in a tight embrace. Sara decided being dry was definitely a boon for the moment. She got up to dry herself and flicked water from her tail at her son as she headed to the bathroom.

"MOM!...." he barked as his face got wet. Sara giggled and ran to the bathroom and locked herself in as Sam gave chase.

***

The storm was raging wildly outside the cabin. It had only been an hour since the Ranger had left and even though it was mid afternoon it could easily have been mistaken for a dark winter evening. It hadn't taken Sara long to calm Sam down after their little frolic with the rain water and they had returned to their gentle petting and kissing of one another.

For a short while they had been talking about their earlier days in the cabin, what they would do when they arrived home and when they would see Cara again. Sara had been particularly shocked to hear of Cara's mistreatment by her father when she was younger and had called her soon after Sam had told her about it. They had talked about the situation and despite of the heartache caused, it was decided to best let the past be and start fresh with each other.

Sam talked about how he had enjoyed her company and how he regretted being so hostile towards her even before they had met. He was more than happy to talk about what they could do together once they had settled in the park for themselves.

Sam softly brushed his claws through his mother's long black hair as he gently stroked her side with his other paw. "Mom?" He said quietly. Sara nuzzled his chest gently and then looked curiously into his eyes. "Is it true what Cara said? About you wanting to watch me have sex with another girl?"

Sara's cheeks burned red with embarrassment as the fur on her face began to stand on end. She looked away shyly and gripped his sides firmly. "I would like to at some point soon." She purred huskily.

"I take it we'll be seeing Cara again soon then?" He asked with a chuckle.

Sara calmed herself and raised herself off of Sam once again, but stayed leaning over him on all fours. "Who said the other girl had to be Cara?" She purred with a sly grin forming on her muzzle.

Sam was genuinely shocked. "Mom? You've not told anyone else have you?" He shivered as he spoke.

Sara shook her head. "No Sweetie, it was just a though that I had; but it would be someone very specific."

Sam thought about it for a moment. "Who did you have in mind?" He asked nervously.

Sara could feel how uncomfortable he was with the idea and fully understood. After all the trauma it has caused in their relationship when Cara got involved she didn't want to put him through all of that again. "Someone very special and close to you; I'm not sure if you remember her all that well, but she used to baby sit you when you were just a little cub."

Sam eyes went wide with delight. "Tanya! You would want me to sleep with Tanya?" He barked with glee.

Sara giggled to herself. "And here was me worried that you might have forgotten her." She raised her paw and softly brushed his cheek. "So if Tanya was involved with us as well, would you like to have sex with her?" Sara purred softly in his ear.

Sam was buzzing with a sudden energy. He loved Tanya from as far back as he could remember. He had always looked up to her and admired her for who she was. She was there when his parents couldn't be, so he was never really alone when he was young. She had always treated him like he was her baby brother and would have done anything to keep him safe.

Sam bit his lip softly as he looked back into his mother's eyes. "Do you really want me to be with Tanya?"

Sara nodded slowly and softly scratched his chest. "Yes, but she's the only other female I think I could stand to see you with Baby." She said in a sultry but serious tone.

"Mom, I'd love to be with Tanya, but if everything went wrong for us as a group. I'd only ever want you."

Upon hearing Sam's words; Sara cupped his cheeks and kissed him long and slow, while softly moaning into the kiss as his paws gripped her waist firmly and pulled her closer. After a long moment of blissful passion, Sara pulled back from the kiss, still stroking his cheeks. "You really know how to make my heart melt don't you Merlin." She purred loudly. Sam just smiled lovingly at her and gazed into her eyes before pulling her close and lovingly rubbing her back.

Sara moaned seductively at his attentions and cuddled against him lovingly. "So do you want me to talk to Tanya when we get back?" She murred in delight.

Sam shivered with excitement again. "Don't be straight forward with her Mom, she'd freak out."

Sara placed a finger over his muzzle. "Neither of us is that stupid Sweetie, I'll bring her round if you're willing to help." Sam nodded and then kissed down her neck slowly.

Sara moaned in pleasure as he kissed further down her neck and tugged at her sweater so that he could softly lap at her shoulder. Sara suddenly pushed herself up and slid off the couch on to her knees. Sam wondered what was going on as his mother rapidly pulled off her sweater and threw it to one side before lifting her loose black t-shirt over her breasts. "Sit up." She panted wildly. Sam did as he was told without question. Sara's paws gently push his legs apart then pulled at his buttoned up jeans and watched them fly open at her use of force.

"Mom? I thought...." Sam started before Sara looked up at him. Her eyes locked with his and silenced him. He shuffled as he felt her paws move to his waist and grip both his jeans and his boxer shorts to make it easier for them to move. She stopped them at his knees and slowly reached forward and began tenderly stroking his member.

"You've been so patient these last few days Baby, I think you deserve this as a reward." With that said she leaned in close and licked along the length of his shaft, making him groan in pleasure.

Sam was ready for her next move when he heard her gasp in shock. "Mom? What's wrong?"

Sara growled angrily. "Get dressed. I had a feeling this might happen." She pulled her t-shirt back down and grabbed her sweater as she got up and headed to the front door.

Sam looked over the back of the couch as saw what had stopped his mother and had put her in a sudden foul mood. The head lights of a Ranger's jeep were coming back down the trail and they were almost at the cabin. Sam groaned with disappointment as he redressed and tidied himself up again. "Is it that guy again?" He asked with a grumble.

"I wouldn't doubt it for a second Sweetie." She stood with her arms folded by the window until the jeep had pulled up by the cabin before she decided to open the front door. "Why did he have to come back and now of all times?"

"Mom? He asked curiously.

"Let's just be nice to him Sam. With any luck he'll just be checking in on his way back to be sure everyone is ok. Keep your fingers crossed that he goes soon, but the storm might keep him here" Sara grumbled before trying to level her thoughts.

Sara opened the front door as the Jeep pulled up and stopped its engine. The coyote ranger quickly got out of his jeep and ran over to the shelter of the cabin's veranda. "Hi there. I though you've have finished your round by now." Sara said as cheerfully as she could manage.

The coyote shook the rain off as much of him as he could. "Hello again. I'm sorry to barge into on you like this again, but the track pretty much just turned to slick mud after the rain got heavy." He panted; clearly exhausted from the harsh driving conditions. "Do you mind if I use the phone? I need to get in touch with the base hut and let them know what's going on up at this end of the site."

"By all means, come in." Sara said then stepped back in doors as the wind howled continuously and the heavy rain lashed down.

Sam had picked up a novel that he had left on the table and pretended to be interested in. He looked up as the Ranger entered the cabin. "Hi there." Sam said calmly, announcing him presence to the Ranger.

The Ranger stopped and looked at Sam, he seemed a little shocked that he was as old as he was, then smiled happily. "Hi there. Rough night huh?"

Sam nodded slightly. "Yeah I guess."

There was a brief and awkward silence before Sara decided to advance the situation. "The phone is just before you get to the kitchen." She chirped and pointed in the phones direction.

"Huh? Oh, thanks Ma'am." The coyote said and moved to call the base hut.

Sam moved to the couch again and sat in the far corner where he could keep an eye on the Ranger. Sara walked casually around the back of the couch as the Ranger spoke away liberally to the site staff about his situation over the phone. Sara leaned over the back of the couch. "Sam; please try to be nice so we can get through this."

He nodded. "I am trying, but it's just a little awkward."

Sara ruffled his hair. "I know. Anyway what are you reading?" She said trying to sound cheerful.

Sam stifled a giggle and idly chatted with his mother as the Ranger continued to chat on the phone. "Tomorrow? Are you sure?" The coyote said sharply. "Alright, do you have any idea when it might pass? After mid-day. Ok I'll see how things go in the morning; I'll try and make a move then maybe earlier if I can."

Sam's ears turned up and listened to the Ranger's conversation. His cautious optimism of the Ranger leaving quickly seemed to slowly fell away, as he eaves dropped.

"Alright I'll see what happens. I'll see you later." The coyote hung up and slowly approached Sara by the couch. "I'm really sorry to put you out like this, but the storm is apparently getting worse according to the weather station and the base hut said it's too dangerous to drive the track now. They're surprised I made it this far back to be honest."

"You need to stay the night?" Sara asked as she stood up straight.

The coyote nodded. "I'm terribly sorry about this but it really is getting too dangerous to drive out there."

"It's no problem, I'll make up the bed in the spare room upstairs then I'll make some dinner." Sara said, forcing back her annoyance at the complete turn around of the situation. "Oh, by the way; this is my son, Sam. Sam this is... Andrew was it?" She said with a smile. The coyote nodded. "I'll let you two chat for a bit while I sort things out." She said as she headed upstairs.

Sam and the coyote looked at each other and both forced smiles on their muzzles. "How you doin' kid? Enjoying your vacation?" The coyote asked as he hung up his jacket.

Sam let a natural smile cross his face. "Yeah, it's been great up here. The lake and the trails are amazing."

"Are you fond of hill walking?" Andrew asked.

Sam nodded. "It's a really nice area for it, I'm glad Mom decided too take me up here. I think I needed the break from the city." Sam was irritated by the situation. The last thing he wanted was to be left alone with this Ranger and make small talk, but he knew he'd have to play along for the time being.

Sara finished making the spare bed and sat by herself in the spare room. She sighed heavily at the thought of being cut off from Sam indefinitely until Andrew had left. It wasn't going to be an easy night for either of them she thought. The day's gentle petting had also been soothing the pain in her breasts, but with the Rangers arrival she knew the pain would come back sooner or later and that her discomfort could be misinterpreted by the new arrival.

She tried to put it out of her mind, but Sam's clipped words had put her on a knives edge. Sam had always been a remarkable judge of character in her eyes, always watchful of other people's actions and words. The situation with Cara had been an unusual one in that he had heard about her actions before meeting her and he seemed to realise that he had made an error in his judgement, but this was very different. He had met Andrew first hand and something wasn't sitting right with him; it wasn't just the fact that they had been interrupted during very tender moments. There was something about Andrew that Sam didn't like; he might not have been fully aware of it yet but Sara had noticed both Sam's attitude and body language towards him.

Sara wondered if Sam's natural instincts were controlling his better judgement; he had after all, just become her mate. Could he just be trying to protect her? Sara considered it for a moment and it seemed quite likely to her that it was the case; it also made her further appreciate how deeply Sam was in love with her. She day dreamed a little, letting fantasies of Sam coming to her rescue or just keeping her safe from the dangers of the world. Sara thought about the crates of gifts Cara had given her that were safely hidden under her bed now and wondered about playing sex games with Sam to see if he really could play the part of the rescuer in her fantasies.

Putting the thought to the back out her mind, she gave her breasts a gentle rub before heading down stairs again. As she quietly made her way to the stairs she looked over the walkways banister, she almost giggled as she watched Sam talking to the Ranger. He was slouching very uncomfortably in his chair; he obviously wasn't enjoying himself even if he was putting on an act to be nice to the coyote. She decided to intervene. "Sam." She called as she reached the top of the stairs.

"Yeah? What is it Mom?" Sam chirped back, delighted to hear her voice again.

"Sweetie could you tidy your room a little? It's a bit messy in there." She asked.

Sam thought about it for a moment and he knew he had only used his room to get changed in now and there wasn't anything wrong with it. He got up and was about to say something when he saw his mother wink at him and make a time out gesture; he suddenly understood what she was doing. Like a grumpy teenager he passed the Ranger and headed to the stairs "Alright, I'll do it." he said reluctantly, but as he approached his mother he smiled and whispered as he passed her. "Thank you."

Sara smiled and headed down to the kitchen to prepare some food for dinner. "So how did you two get on?" She asked the coyote.

.

"Oh fine. That's a good kid you've got. He's got a little bit of an attitude, but he's good." Andrew replied as he got up to speak to her.

She smiled knowing all too well that he and Sam didn't get on; she just couldn't decide who the better actor was. "Actually he just takes a while to adjust to people. He's like his father that way."

"Your husband; isn't he here with you?" Andrew said cautiously.

Sara shook her head. "He died a few years ago, but I'd rather not talk about it; it's still a very hard thing for me to get over." She couldn't help but feel a little sorry for herself as she spoke. Even though her husband was deceased she still loved him and knew she always would, but Sam was now the love of her life. His loss had been painful for the both of them, but they knew they had mutual feeling about him.

"I'm sorry I shouldn't have asked." He replied with a genuine sorrow in his voice.

Sara let a sad smile cross her muzzle. "Don't worry about it. Anyway, what about you; are you married or still single?"

The coyote smiled. "Actually I'm single. I've not been in a relationship for a while."

"Really what happened?" She asked with interest.

The coyote leaned against the table as he got a little closer. "To be honest I think we were just two very different people. She thought the way I lived my life was interfering with her career. We hadn't been together long so I wasn't overly heart broken over the situation."

Sara let out a sigh of sympathy. "I'm sorry to hear that. Have you had any luck since then?"

Andrew shook his head. "I've tried once or twice but nothing clicked with anyone I met."

Sara smiled. "Well don't lose hope; I found a new mate. It's just a pity he got called away on business before we came up here." She said with a hint of regret. Not because she was lying but because she knew she couldn't say it was her own son. The regret soon slipped out of her mind though as she realised how well she had improvised a defence against any advance he may have made.

"Didn't that put a dampener on things for you?" The coyote asked curiously.

Sara shook her head. "Not really. I miss him, but I wasn't going to let it ruin the vacation." Sara didn't want to continue the conversation; knowing the bigger the lie she began to spin the more out of control it could get. "Anyway, you grab a seat Andrew. Dinner won't take that long." She gestured back to the couch then turned her attention back to preparing the meal.

* * *

Dinner had been a tense affair; Sam had been watching the coyote closely as they had been eating and had seen him keeping a close eye on his mother. He could hardly blame him though; his mother was an amazingly beautiful lady and her sharp wolf features and turned more than a few heads in her time. He had told his mother about the Ranger's wandering eyes as they did the washing up. Sara had admitted that she had noticed but she wasn't concerned, she just wanted him to relax and try to get through the night without him worrying too much.

Hours had passed by with little else other than small talk and the occasional card game. Sam occasionally left his mother and Andrew alone, choosing to draw in his former room but keeping the door open so that he could always hear what was going on.

Sara had been sore and irritable for some time, but knew she couldn't leave the room every few minutes to sooth herself. She had made a few attempts to ease her discomfort when the coyote had turned away, but they were nothing more than short lived endeavours. Sara finally gave in; she excused herself and went to the bathroom.

Sara locked the bathroom door and swiftly pulled her sweater and t-shirt over her head. She was glad that she had decided not to wear a bra that day as her clothing was stripped away. She placed a paw on each breast and began softly massaging them. She fought urges to moan and call out Sam's name; going so far as to bite into a thickly folded towel to cover any noise she may have made. The more she fought her urges however the more she became unwillingly aroused. It had barely been more than two minutes since she had locked herself in the bathroom and she knew she would have to go back before any suspicions were raised over her absence.

Steadying herself and staring at her reflection in the mirror, Sara could see the pain in her own eyes at denying both herself and Sam of what they both wanted. She needed to feel him close to her again even if only for a moment; it would suffice for her. She quickly slipped her t-shirt and sweater on again and tidied herself up so that Andrew wouldn't suspect anything.

As Sara left the bathroom she noticed Andrew was no longer on the couch; he had moved to the kitchen and was preparing some drinks. "Everything ok?" He asked as he heard her leaving the bathroom.

"Just fine thanks. What are you making?" She asked curiously.

The coyote turned to face her and smiled "Just a hot drink, can I get you one?"

"That would be great, I'll have tea please." Sara said with a friendly smile. "I'm just going to check on Sam; I'll see if he wants one too." She said as she made her way up the stairs.

Sam sat on his bed, drawing rough sketches of females and cars. He hadn't noticed his mother enter the room and jumped in shock as she laid her paw on his shoulder. "Mom, don't scare me like that!" He whimpered as he settled down.

"I'm sorry Sweetie; I didn't mean to startle you." She said softly as she wrapped her arms around her son. Sam sighed softly and rested into his mothers arms. "Are you ok Sam?" She whispered in his ear.

Sam shook his head and pulled away to look into his mother's eyes. "I don't like that guy Mom. There's something creepy about him." He held his mother tight and kissed her cheek softly. "I was watching him earlier, and he kept looking at you like he wants to have sex with you."

Sara gently cupped her son's cheeks and kissed him softly. "I know Sam, but it's not going to happen ok!" She said firmly. "I need you to be strong for me ok; I don't like him or trust him any more than you do, but we're going to have to go through with this ok." She said, her voice full of concern as her lip started to quiver.

Sam nodded and stood up with his mother. They stared wildly at each other for a moment, their hearts thundering in their chests and their paws trembling with desire.

Sara gave in to her emotions, she knew she had to keep herself in check when there were others around them now, but the tension Andrew had built up between them was too much for her to bear any longer. She quickly grabbed hold of him and kissed him passionately. Sam had no reason to argue and returned her affection with equal vigour. They kissed, scratched and tenderly nipped each other for what seemed like the whole evening before they realised they had to stop. Sara pulled away still trembling slightly. They stared at each other for a moment, holding each others paws as they did then painfully nodded in acknowledgement of their situation.

They parted from each other with great reluctance. Sara turned to head back down stairs but stopped and rested her head against the door frame. "Andrew's making hot drinks, do you want one?" She said quietly as she looked back over her shoulder.

Sam shook his head. "I'll be ok; I'll get a glass of water in a little while."

"Alright Sweetie." She said as she forced back tears so that she could still be social.

"Mom." Sam said softly. "I'll watch out for you."

Sara smiled and felt an immeasurable swell of pride in her chest. "I know you will." She smiled then headed back down stairs knowing that her son would be watching Andrew as closely as she was. She suddenly felt very safe and protected as she headed back to the couch.

"How's he doing up there?" Andrew asked as Sara passed him.

"He's fine; I think the weather might be getting him down though." She replied as she sat back on the couch.

Andrew placed two mugs of hot tea on the table. "Did Sam want a drink? The kettle is still hot if he does." He said as he sat back down on the couch across from Sara.

Sara shook her head. "No, he's ok. He'll get himself something when he's thirsty."

"Quite the independent kid isn't he?" Andrew said with a smile.

Sara chuckled to herself. "Yeah he likes some space to himself every now and then, just like all teenagers."

Sam had over heard Andrew's comments and opened his door a little further. He sat with his back to the wall but with his ears perked up high so he could hear everything he needed to. His mother was doing an excellent job of diffusing the coyote's suggestive comments and turning them into something more embarrassing for him to deal with, or just back into regular conversation. It was getting late and Sam was becoming even more restless. There was no chance he'd have a peaceful sleep tonight, not while Andrew was there.

Sara could feel herself getting tired and shuffled around on the sofa a little. "I think I'm going to head off to bed shoon." She said lazily, not even realising that she had slurred her last word.

"I have to admit it is getting a little late and you look bushed." Andrew replied.

Sara's eyes started to feel heavy and she couldn't understand why. It hadn't been a particularly active day even though it had been more than a little stressful with Andrew's arrival. "I... I think I'm uh.... yeah, I'm gonna head to bed." She said gradually.

"I think that would be a good idea. Do you need a hand getting up?" He asked with a small smile on his muzzle.

Sara started to stand up but quickly sat back down again as she started to feel light headed. "Oh my, I must have got up a bit quick there, I feel a bit dizzy." She steadied herself on the sofa before she got up and staggered a little towards here door. "I'll be fine Andrew, but thanks for the offer."

Sam got up and looked out of his room. He could see his mother swaying gently as she tried to open the door to her room. "Mom? Are you ok?" He asked as he made his way down stairs.

"I'm fine Shweetie; I'm jusht a little tired thatsh all." She slurred back in response.

Sam watched Andrew as he got up and cleared the table for the night. Something wasn't right; he had never seen his mother in this state before. He had seen her drunk on a few occasions but this was completely new to him. He arrived at her side and opened the bedroom door for her, then walked her to the bed and sat down with her for a moment. "Mom are you sure you're ok?" He asked softly as he laid his paw over her brow checking her for a possible fever.

Sara nodded lazily. "I'm fine; I'm jusht.... just a little tired that's all." She stammered as best she could before giving her son a gentle hug. "I love you, you know that." She murred softly.

Sam hugged her in return then got up and closed the bedroom door. "I love you too Mom." He said softly as he moved to a chest of drawers and found a comfortable set of pyjamas for his mother to wear. "Let's get you ready for bed." He said quietly as he helped his mother dress for bed.

A few minutes later Sam left his mother's room after getting her into bed and headed to the kitchen. He could hear Andrew moving around in the spare room; he felt relief at that. At least he wasn't in his way; Sam thought to himself. There was something suspicious about him and something at the back of Sam's mind wouldn't let go of what had gone on.

Sam got himself a glass of water and quietly crept around the cabin. Against his better nature he began rummaging through Andrew's jacket pockets keeping his ears up and alert to any noise. The only things he could find were his keys for the jeep and his Ranger Identity Card. He slipped the card into his pocket before he finished his water and headed back to the kitchen. Sam tidied up after himself and headed to the bathroom, staying alert for any sound Andrew might have make. He cleaned himself up and brushed his teeth then quickly checked in on his mother; she was sound asleep. He quickly entered her room and found her handbag, rummaging through its contents he found what he was looking for; her cell-phone. He pocketed it quickly then gave his mother a soft kiss on her muzzle as he left the room as quietly as he had entered.

Sam listened hard; the wind seemed to be dieing down and the rain was easing off a little. He had an idea but had to make sure Andrew was sleeping before he acted on it. He turned off the lights and put the fire guard in place before he made his way back to his old room. Sam again strained his hearing as he reached the top of the stairs; he was listening to Andrew. It sounded like he was still awake and moving around a little but Sam was sure he wasn't sleeping. He sighed and moved into his room. It was going to be a long night.

* * *

Sam had been lying perfectly still for hours. He had heard some noise from Andrew's room every now and then, yet inspire of his own tiredness he couldn't let himself fall asleep. Sam was feeling lonely; in the last two weeks he had grown used to sleeping with his mother and found it strange sleeping alone again. He couldn't stop thinking about her; wondering if she was coming down with some illness or if Andrew had done something to her. He just wanted her to be alright and for Andrew to be gone.

He missed how she would lay against his side with her thigh over his; her paw gently stroking his chest as their tails brushed against each other and the soft pleasant murring she made as she slept. Most of all, he missed her scent, that was so firmly ingrained in his senses that he could almost tell the change in her mood from her scent alone.

Sam suddenly snapped back to reality as he heard Andrew's door slowly creak open. Sam listened closely as he heard him creep along the walkway and down the stairs. Sam got up quickly and quietly opened his door then moved swiftly to the top of the stairs. He looked down and saw Andrew's silhouette moving cautiously towards his mother's room. "Where are you going?" Sam grumbled trying to sound more tired than he really was.

Andrew jumped at the sound of Sam's voice. "For crying out loud Sam, don't scare people like that." He managed to say as he caught his breath. "I thought you were asleep."

"I'm a light sleeper." He grumbled as he slowly and cautiously made his way down stairs. Sam could make out an obvious expression of anger on his face and just hoped that he wasn't being stupid.

"Listen, can you tell me which door is the bathroom? You get turned around in here when it's dark." Andrew said trying to control himself.

Sam pointed to the other side of the room. "Over there, and be quick; I think I might need to go too."

Andrew grumbled something under his breath and made his way to the bathroom, locking the door behind him. Sam moved away from the stairs and sat in the chair closest to his mother's room and picked up the fire poker, hiding it behind his back just in case he needed it. Andrew was finished what ever he was doing and left the bathroom and quickly spotted where Sam was sitting and the very sharp stare that he had fixed on him. Sam could tell the coyote knew that he was aware that something wasn't right. He watched as the coyote headed back to the stairs making sure he made no sudden movements in his direction.

"It's all yours kid." The coyote said trying to mask his annoyance.

Sam got up slowly and watched the coyote head back to his room. As his door closed he breathed a sigh of relief and returned the fire poker to where it had been. He quickly went to the bathroom and relieved himself of the water he had drunk earlier and freshened himself up a little. He felt more awake since Andrew had gone back to his room and decided he could last the full night for what he had to do next.

More time passed as Sam readied himself. It had been over two hours since he had seen Andrew and he decided to act on his earlier thoughts. He checked the weather from his window; the wind had died off completely and there seemed to be a light lull in the rain for the time being.

Sam quickly dressed himself and left his room. He quickly shuffled across the walkway to Andrew's room and listened at the door. He stifled a chuckle as he heard his snoring lightly; convinced he was asleep Sam crept quietly back to the stairs and on to the banister. Avoiding the creaky wooden steps he eased himself down the banister to the ground floor of the cabin.

Sam stealthily moved to the kitchen and over to the phone. He lifted the received and tapped the redial button once and watched as the last number dialled appeared on the LCD screen. Sam looked at it curiously and took a note of it before hanging up and heading to the door.

He stopped at the coat rack and slipped his paw into Andrew's jacket. Carefully he removed the Ranger's keys and quietly left the cabin. Sam made a quick dash the jeep and opened the door; climbing in he closed the door quietly. "This guy is a Ranger?" He said to himself in disgust as he looked through the messy interior of the vehicle.

As he searched he came across several printed pictures from the internet of females being forced to do vile things he wouldn't even dare to ask his mother or Cara to do. He checked the page headers and his eyes went wide with anger as he resumed his search. He knew there was something wrong with Andrew, but he never really wanted to believe it until now.

He tried the glove compartment several times, but it was locked. Sam began to loose his temper and kicked it hard. The small plastic door buckled with a loud crack as it split across its length making the bottom separate from the top section and spill the weight of its contents on to the passenger side floor. Sam's eyes widened in horror before a sly grin crossed his muzzle. "Got you!" He growled darkly.
