Needless to say, my lease was cancelled.
Ms. Jermaine put her things away and then called in Shirley to inform the 'hag' of her decision. I could see her teeth grind through her pursed lips.
As we walked out the door I got the last word in, "Cheer up Shirley! Think of it this way, that's one less 'fag' you have to look at," before pulling both Eli and Dustin down for mutual kisses. I swear the vein at her left temple was going to explode.
It took us about an hour to get all my stuff out and back over to their place. We put my bed into their storage facility located at the loft until I decided what to do with it. My TV we put into my room along with my chair. As soon as we were done, I flopped down on my bed while Eli sat in the chair.
"What about that drink?" I asked smirking over to the wolf. His grin got just as big as mine but with sharper teeth.
Now here I sat at the same bar that this all began.
The guys were nervous about us even traipsing into the place so soon, but if I was going to put things behind me and learn to deal with all this then... Well, I needed to start at the beginning of it all. Plus, as I said to Dustin in his truck, "Now that I am considered a 'supernatural' then I had better learn what is out there."
They immediately directed me towards one of the back wall booths. I got the feeling they both wanted to keep an eye on me. I think part of it was nervousness on how I would react plus they both felt as if they were my protectors now. Eli had made our drinks. He slipped back over to the bar and pulled stuff together and made us both a couple of relatively strong Cosmos.
"Seriously?" I said stirring the straw and taking a drink, "Could you have chosen a gayer drink?"
"You're just lucky that I didn't put a large pink umbrella in it!" he laughed.
I could only roll my eyes. "I'm not saying that I don't like Cosmos but I would have been fine with a glass of Glenlivet on the rocks."
Eli drew back and looked at me, "Seriously?"
I nodded, "My Grandfather's a scotch drinker. Mind you, Dad's not."
I took on my Father's voice, "I can't believe your Grandfather drinks that 'Devil's water!"
Eli got up, "What do you want?" I looked up from studying my drink, "Twelve year old is fine if you got it." He nodded and stepped away.
"Your Dad especially religious?" Dustin asked.
I shook my head, "No. He's just has 'some' morality stick shoved way up his ass on anything; especially with a gay son. Gramps almost disowned him when Dad became a dick about it."
Eli returned with two glasses half full with a couple of large, crystal clear ice cubes in them.
I pulled the glass up and looked at the ice, "Pretty damn pristine."
"Filtered water," Eli grinned showing his canines and slight muzzle. I raised my eyebrows at him.
"We are in MY bar," he emphasized, laughed and raised his glass, "I have wards that tell me if a normal human is approaching. It's easier to know ahead of time in case we need to change or what not. Sometimes lycans like to just revert to their mid-wolf form as a break and then there's any one of the other supernaturals that could be doing something."
We saluted each other before drinking. I could feel Eli watching me as I allowed the warm, brown liquid to run down the back of my throat. I was shocked.
"This," I said, after taking a deep breath and exhaling the taste to allow it to flow again over my tongue, "Is not twelve year old scotch!"
Eli grinned, "It's not. It's their twenty-five." I raised an eyebrow.
"Private stash," Dustin chimed in.
"Thanks Eli," the wolf nodded as I sat back away from the table.
I watched all around me and took it all in. It seemed so different than that night a little over a week ago. I wasn't sure what I was looking for in my mind on the inside but outwardly I'm sure my face looked pained at times. That bastard had changed my life. Granted, the fact that I'd lost the job I came out for had thrown a 'monkey wrench' in my long term goals.
Adding to the absurdity of it all, I now was a vampire with strange powers that should never be alive. I heard the tinkling of ice in my glass and looked down to realize that I'd unconsciously finished off the scotch. I could feel the inward sigh as I swirled the ice around inside the glass. Could I handle it all?
"You must have needed that," Eli said softly while leaning back in the booth. Placing my glass back down on the table I agreed, "Yeah."
"You Ok?" he asked.
I think my look told him about a thousand different responses. "OK might not be the best descriptive huh?" he chuckled.
I nodded, "I'm dealing. Just thinking." It was then I noticed Dustin was gone, "Where's Dustin?"
Eli nodded over to the bar where I saw him speaking to someone slightly familiar. "That's Chance," he smiled, "That's the guy who was your 'doctor' while you were out."
I watched the man move. He was smiling and laughing with Dustin. He looked to be in his late forties and very handsome. His lightly greying temples and those warm brown eyes, which crinkled at the corners as he smiled, gave him an air of confidence and exuded trust. Every once in a while a stray curl would drop down from the dark, curly mop that looked disheveled this afternoon. I was surprised I was able to tell his eye colour from the distance. I chalked it up to my new abilities.
"He's one of the oldest warlocks in the city. Hell," Eli chuckled, "he's the oldest warlock I've ever met although I know there are older out there."
"Really? How old?" I asked.
Eli stretched his arm behind me and pulled me close before whispering in my ear, "He'd kill me if I told you but I know for a fact he's pushing 360."
My mouth dropped. "Seriously?!" I asked in a hushed tone. Eli nodded before licking my ear, "He's also damn good in bed."
I turned and stared at the wolf, "You and he?" Eli smirked, "We three." I nodded getting the implications. "So, he's gay?"
"Nope," Eli shook his head slightly, "Bi; Fact of the matter is that most Witches and Warlocks are Bi. There are fewer of them around than shape shifters or vampires. Plus," he paused, "they tend to stick to more of their kind in dating and relationships."
"Why's that?" I asked settling into Eli's embrace.
"Well," he began, "It's because they are inherently magical. Their powers are part of them from conception. No one knows how long they actually live. They really never tell their age and a lot of them disguise themselves as older or younger depending on where they decide to live. They have so many different names that they are known by over the years because of allowing themselves to 'seemingly'" as he made quotation marks in the air around my body, "age and grow old."
"That's an advantage that they have over us shape shifters or you vampires. They can age at a normal rate based on their spells and magical ability. They just tend to date, fuck or marry with other witches and warlocks because of their inherent magical ability. It's something they don't like to transfer over to shape shifters or vampires through any children. I mean I've met a couple of shape shifters that were warlocks. It's just now that I'm having to deal with both issues and the extra powers it gives the child makes others more wary of them."
"As for us," he continued, "we just age extremely slow, thus we stick out more," he shrugged.
Shuddering, I thought of how I would seemingly be this age for a long time in appearance and what it meant for me and my biological family. Eli sensed my thoughts, "It'll be ok," as he kissed the top of my head, "We're going to be there for you." Eli pulled me closer and ran his fingers through the back of my hair.
The worst part of being so close to this man was that he exuded sex. And his smell, oh fuck, his smell. Cedar, tobacco and something else in the cologne he used kept hitting my senses and started to make my dick hard. I wiggled in my jeans hoping that I could move my cock a bit lessen the strain.
Eli leaned down and licked my right ear again. "Stop that!" I hissed allowing my face to contort and take on its' vampiric nature in its' fullest form for the first time.
Eli pulled back and smiled. "What?" I asked as fangs dropped. They felt a little longer than yesterday. Maybe they were still growing in like baby teeth?
He pointed to the mirror along the booth to the other side of him. I was shocked to see my face. My nose had creased slightly; the bones over my brow had become thicker and arched making my eyebrows angular. I swear I thought it looked like some sci-fi character off TV. Still, it was not overtly strong. It was passable at the moment but I wasn't sure how long that might be since it seemed my fangs had grown.
"My fangs feel longer," I stated.
"Let me look," Eli said peering closer as I opened my mouth. He nodded, "It seems they're fully in place. They're still not as long as most vamps but yours are serviceable should you ever need to use them."
I concentrated while looking in the mirror and watched them retract and my face take on its' normal aspect. I sat back and thought about how my eyes had taken on their golden tone. Deep golden. I had a hard time believing that was me. I calmed down and watched as I finished returning to my normal self. It took seconds.
"Very good," Eli smiled before licking my ear again and making my cock resurge with blood.
I pulled back and stared at him, "What are you trying to do?"
He put his hand in my lap and squeezed my cock. "Do I make you horny baby?" he laughed imitating a certain movie character.
"Yes," I pouted since I hadn't had sex in a while, "and I'm sure Dustin wouldn't approve." I noticed him turning to stare at the two of us in the booth.
"HA!" Eli laughed loudly. "Reach out and sense his feelings. It'll be good for your training and with him talking to Chance right now he might be distracted enough to allow you to sneak a peek. Since it's you, his guard will be down more."
I did what the wolf said and stretched my senses a bit. It took a moment to pinpoint him. It was like being in a fog on a dark road and trying to find the point of light of an incoming car. I gasped.
Dustin must have realized who it was and what was going on because he stopped in mid conversation and turned to look at me with his mouth open. I could see him stare hard at Eli and the wolf began to laugh madly.
"He..he really wanted to do that with me when he met me?" I asked Eli.
Eli stopped laughing long enough to nod and gasp out, "We both did." He pulled me closer, "Tris, you're hot! I can't deny that both of us are attracted to you. Before all of this happened we'd been discussing between us about taking you home. It was the first time in a few years that we'd even considered taking a human to bed with us but something about you was just too fucking yummy."
I blushed. "It wouldn't be weird now even more that you look at me as family?" I asked.
He waived his hand, "Supernaturals don't have those hang ups."
"Huh," was all I said and he left it at that.
Chance and Dustin walked over a minute later. "Hey Eli," Chance said smiling. Eli licked his wolf like lips that shown over the short muzzle he'd allowed to surface, making Chance chuckle.
"Will you behave before I neuter you?" Dustin laughed scooting into the booth beside him.
"I thought he was going to start lapping from his glass earlier," I quipped.
"HEY!" Eli growled/laughed at me grabbing my head into a headlock and giving me a 'noogie', "Little punk vamp! I should spank your ass right here."
I pulled away laughing, "You'd like that too much."
"So would you!" Dustin snickered. I began to blush realizing that Eli had told him and for that he got elbowed.
Chance turned to me laughing, "And how's my patient tonight?"
I looked up at the tall, handsome man and smiled. I was grateful. "Better. Thank you for what you did for me," as I stuck out my hand. He took it and then grasped it with his other. "I guess I should properly introduce myself. Tristan Case, doctor."
Chance laughed, "I haven't been called 'doctor' in at least a hundred years. I'm Chance Perry, Tristan. You can just call me Chance."
"So you are a full physician now?" Eli asked.
Chance smiled, "Well, not in the eyes of the AMA at the moment. I had to drop my medical degree when I changed my last name during the last time that I moved about thirty-five years ago," Chance told him as he sat down. He looked over at my glass, "Refill?" I nodded and started to get up to go asked the bartender but Chance put his hand on my left shoulder and had me sit.
"What's he drinking you big fleabag?" nodding over to Eli.
"Hey, I haven't had fleas since you dragged Dus and me out on that stupid camping trip up near Sacramento about sixty years ago. It wasn't my fault that you two got some cabin loaded with them from the previous owner!" Eli growled.
"Hey, he bought the place sight unseen. I had nothing to do with it and we all were itching," Dustin spoke up.
Eli leaned over to me, "I was itching the entire week! I could only shift once in a while and it annoyed the hell out of me."
Chance laughed, "Fortunately I found some wild pennyroyal and we used it on him. I had to mix a potion out of it after they left and coat the entire area around the place for about 500 feet to finally get rid of most of them."
"What's he drinking?" he asked again.
"We're," Eli said draining his glass, "drinking my twenty-five year old Glenlivet."
Chance nodded and without looking away from Eli snapped his left fingers. The bottle of scotch rose from behind the bar and moved across the room slowly. Every once in a while it would be stopped by someone passing by but it would just hover, then when the way was clear it would continue its route. I sat there, mouth open, and watched.
Chance continued talking, "When was the last time he had blood?" looking over to Dustin.
"This morning," Dustin replied pulling on the long neck that he'd picked up at the bar.
Chance nodded again and waived his right hand. I caught the movement and suddenly there was a half full glass of blood that had a little steam coming off of it. "Let it cool a moment," he said, "I think I got it a tad too hot."
The scotch had made its way over to the table by now and was hovering in the air, "How much?" he asked.
"Huh?" I spilled out looking at the bottle floating in front of me. Part of me wanted to run my hands back and forth above and below it and look for strings.
"How much do scotch do you want?" he asked again.
I was brought out of my staring to finally realize what he was asking, "Oh, I don't want to drink up Eli's stash. Just a shot of it is fine." Chance looked at Eli. There was a subtle nod and the bottle tipped forward to pour me a half glass. "Damn," Chance said out loud.
I looked at the glass and then over to the smiling warlock, "Aren't I a butter fingers?" as he laughed.
The bottle then settled down on the table. Chance pulled the glass of blood over to me and put it down.
I turned to him with a scowl.
"Do you want to challenge your physician young man?" he asked crossing his arms. I could only sigh and grab the glass and down the warm liquid. Thunking the glass down harder than I intended I grabbed the glass of scotch and took a large drink. I was annoyed. Mostly it was because I was finding that I was beginning to enjoy the taste of the blood.
Dustin fiddled with his bottle of beer, "It's just part of our nature Tris. Our body needs it and likes it. It's only that we have to be aware that not to allow our body to dictate our lives."
I nodded remembering the conversation we'd had previously about Dean.
"It doesn't make it any easier or the fact that I feel like that I'm now liking the taste of it," I said.
"When you turn," Chance said drawing my attention back his direction, "You entire body changes. Your nature changes. You will like blood Tristan, there's no getting around that fact. Craving it is a different story."
He leaned back and continued, "It's important that you satiate those urges by taking blood. Right now, until we know the full extent of your 'turning' and your powers, I want you to drink a half glass a day. Your new body, and it is new, is still acclimating to all that its' undergone this past week. It's important that you have the necessary requirement to keep it functioning."
I dropped my head into my arms on the table. I could see movement from Eli out of the corner of my eye and sense his need to comfort me. Dustin held him back.
"Tristan," Chance spoke up again, "Talk to me. As your doctor, well," he paused, "I'd like to be your doctor?" I nodded in agreement.
"It's hard," I sighed and choked up a bit, "I don't blame Dustin at all. Am I bitter? Yeah, I'd be lying otherwise if I said 'no', still," I paused, "It's just hard to realize that I could outlive my family."
Chance smiled, "Tristan, are you the youngest or oldest child?"
"I'm the older by about a year. Dave's just turning twenty in about two months," I said.
"Then," Chance stated putting a hand on my shoulder, "You actually won't have too much a problem since they would live their normal lifespan unless something happens otherwise."
"Yeah, but I won't age like them," I pouted.
"That's true," Chance said, "But you will age."
"I don't want to not tell them," I whispered, "At least Gramps and my brother, they more than anyone deserve to know the truth."
Chance nodded, "Well, I know a way that we can do that without hurting your parents and your Grandmother."
"Grans gone," scooting back in my seat, "She passed when I was nineteen. It's just Gramps now and I worry about him. Dave's still living at home. Mom's always going to worry if she notices something's askew."
"Mother's always do," Chance said with a smile.
"Dad's still a pain and I think secretly waiting for Gramps to pass," I sighed. "I don't hate him but he's not on my 'top three' list."
It was thing that I realized he mentioned about a way to handle this and turned to face him, "How could you do it?"
Chance smiled, "I could put a spell on you where you could invoke an incantation word that would make anyone you think important see you age at a normal rate. You could use it with your parents so that they just see you as you grow older until their time comes."
I sat back shocked. "I need to think about it," I said. "I want to talk with Dave and Gramps first."
Chance nodded. I could see both Eli and Dustin looked uncomfortable. "It's his decision," Chance said looking over my head and at the two of them. They both nodded but each looked skeptical.
Chance broke the mood, "Now, young man," he began, "I'd like to see you in my office tomorrow afternoon for a full physical."
"How come?" I asked at the sudden change of conversation.
"You are going to be different from other vampires," he began and then noticed my look over towards Dustin. "Dustin told me everything that happened today. I'm glad he did."
I sighed, "I know. It's just really weird being open about so much now. I had to hide a lot of things while growing up and then just being gay was a problem around my Dad. My Grandparents, brother and Mom were fine. It just seemed to be so much of a hassle to even try and be me. Now...." I trailed off.
Chance put his arm around me, "I, hell, we," as he nodded towards the two men that now had not only made the role of my guardian but new family, "actually ALL OF US, are all going to be here for you."
"RIGHT!?" he yelled loudly.
All the people in the bar turned and stared at me. I saw glowing eyes of lycans, golden glows of vampires and the eyes of witches, warlocks, sorcerers, sorceresses along with all sorts of other supernaturals turn towards Dustin's voice and yell "HERE, HERE!" before raising their glasses to me. They soon returned to their respective conversations.
I sat there with my mouth opened. It was Eli that closed it when kissed me on the lips, making me look up at him. "Almost everyone in the place was here the night you were attacked Tristan," as he nodded his head towards the large crowd. They all know what Dustin did to save your life and what it meant to you if you survived.
I started to get misty eyed as a few tears strained down my flushed cheeks. I quickly wiped them away as Eli pulled me up over his lap and between him and Dustin. Seconds later I was surrounded in their arms and felt safe once again.
"You guys hungry?" Chance asked.
I nodded. I realized that none of us had eaten lunch after the late breakfast and it was fast approaching 6PM. Dustin snapped his fingers and the bottle of scotch disappeared then appeared over the bar and floated back towards its place on the shelf, "Let's go eat. I know this great vegetarian place."
I heard Eli growl behind us as we headed out of the bar. Chance, Dustin and I started laughing as we three rushed out the door with a 'snapping' Eli on our heels.
