Nala's Choice
After Scar attempts to take Nala for his queen, she and her father Meric face a choice that will forever alter the future of the Pridelands
The dry wind whipped past his face, chafing his black lips and tugging at the strands of his snowy white mane as he paced the promontory. He paused only once each circuit, unsheathing his claws and raking them over the stone as his anxiousness grew. Only a few minutes had passed, but to Meric, Guardian of the Pridelands since the days of King Mufasa, it seemed like hours... or was it days? Any length of time was too long to leave his precious daughter, Nala, alone with Taka and those slobbering, flea-ridden lackies of his.
With each passing moment he berated himself. Why had he agreed to let her go? True enough, Taka was king now, and Meric doubted he would harm Nala, but still, Meric couldn't help but think thoughts no father should ever have to think of his daughter...
"Nala isn't a cub anymore," he reminded himself, "She's a strong, capable lioness, just like her mother... She thinks she can reason with Taka... I have to give her a chance..." Nevertheless, he couldn't help the growing sense of unease that gnawed at his belly like weeks-old wildebeest.
As time passed with no sound from the pride's den, Meric supposed perhaps his fears were in vain. Taka was mad, perhaps, but he was no fool. King or no, he had to know just how dear Meric's children were to him. He began to relax. They had all grown up together: Meric, Mufasa, Taka, Sarafina, and Sarabi... Surely Taka would not be mad enough to-
His wandering thoughts were shaken back to the present as a twin pair of roars suddenly echoed out, blowing past him like waves brought on by a monsoon. The voices he recognized as easily as his own: Nala's a deep, furious growl, Taka, a pained sound that equated to more of a yelp. Meric slinked closer, ever conscious that he remained upwind in order to ensure none of those gray-spotted buffoons inside knew of his presence
. "Get away from me!" Nala demanded.
Despite the earlier sound of pain in his voice, Taka was definitely resilient. His voice oozed from the den like a snake: soft, cunning, and dangerous.
"Oh Nala, you know how I loathe violence, but one way or another you will be mine."
"Never, Scar! Never!" Nala snarled. Before Meric could intervene she emerged from the den, dashing past him like a startled zebra ran from her on a hunt.
She reached the plains just as Taka emerged with flesh blood running down his lip. "You belong to me!" he called after her, "You all belong to me!" He spat, completely ignoring the guardian for the time being. Droplets of crimson coated the ground.
"So now your pride mates are your property, Taka?" Meric scolded.
The king groaned, obviously displeased. It was bad enough he had to deal with Zazu's impudence, his henchmen's idiocy, and Nala's rejection... But now he had to answer to the Guardian... Taka cursed the day his brother had installed Meric in that post. The Pridelands had gotten on fine for generations without a so-called Guardian to harass a king only trying to claim his rights. "Can we do this later, Meric?" he questioned, "I have a headache and I'm really not in in the mood for your... dreary preaching."
Meric rolled his eyes. As much as he tried to forgive from Taka, the laziness of the scrawny, orange-furred lion, and his proclivity toward whining were getting on his nerves.
Meric lunged, catching Taka offguard. The two rolled until Meric held Taka, pinned to the ground with his deep-blue eyes staring down into Taka's green ones. Normally, the king was cunning enough to conceal his heart and soul from the Guardian's vision, but at that moment, there was nothing to hide but fear... fear, and unbridled contempt. The smaller lion quickly looked for a way out. "Be careful, guardian... Spilling royal blood is a crime. I could have you and your daughter banished, or killed with a single word. Why, if I ordered it-"
Meric growled, teeth bared as he leaned down closer, pressing more of his massive bulk into Scar's ribcage. "Threaten my daughter, or any of my family again, Taka," he warned, "and king or not, I'll rip your throat from your neck myself, and feed it to those slobbering, stupid scavengers you call your servants..."
He backed away, allowing Taka to scramble to his feet. "Yesss..." Taka hissed, "Of course, but the pride-"
"Have no love for you," Meric cut him off, "You already know that... They won't lift a paw if you suddenly turn up dead..."
Taka looked himself over to be sure everything was in place and that nothing was broken. Satisfied, he turned to meet Meric's gaze. "Mark my words, Meric," he warned, "Guardian or no, sedition will not go unpunished."
Without waiting for a response, he turned and slid back into the shadows of the den, leaving the Guardian alone. "Long live the king," Meric whispered mockingly.
Now to undo the rest of the damage the would-be king had done. Meric descended into the plains and lowered his nose to the ground. For a moment, he recoiled at the strong scent of hyena, but Nala's scent was easy enough to pick out. He followed it until finally he arrived at the local water hole... or what had once been the water hole. Like most of the Pridelands, the ground was hard and cracked, and Meric thought he spotted a giraffe skeleton on the opposite shore.
Nala lay there, head buried in her paws, flanks heaving with each sob. Meric frowned. She truly had grown into a beautiful young thing, an almost exact duplicate of her mother, though with a few stronger features she'd inherited from him. Her coat was a clean tawny-tan, perfect for blending in with the savannah grasses, and her eyes, that beautiful blue-green that still enchanted Meric each time he beheld them in her mother, Sarafina.
The guardian padded to her side and knelt down, gently pressing his nose against her shoulder. With a gasp, Nala leaped back, but when she saw it was her father, she let herself break down again, burying her head. Her tears left dark streaks along his mane. Purring comfortingly, Meric rasped his tongue between her ears, the way he'd often done when she had nightmares as a cub.
"Scar... He wanted me to be his queen," she whispered, "He wanted me to... have his cubs... When I was a cub, I thought about... about Simba and me as king and queen, but this... This is wrong."
Meric sighed. "It isn't fair," he agreed, "But Taka is king, and the law dictates he can have his pick of any lioness he wants."
Nala was taken aback. She looked up at him, shocked. "Daddy, you can't be serious!" she protested, "You can't be telling me to go along wi-"
"I"m telling you what the law says," Meric interrupted, "I'm not telling you what you should do with it. The law also says King Ahadi should have killed me when my mother brought me to the pride, but he didn't, did he... He followed the law written on his heart."
"The... law written on his heart?"
"There are two kinds of laws, Nala," Meric explained, "There is the law of the king... the rules and decrees that govern the Pride and determines how the Pridelands are run. But there is another law, one written on the heart of every living creature. It is what governs our sense of right and wrong, what helps us stay straight along the course toward our destiny. It is the law that finally guides us to our place on the Circle of Life. And it is that law that we need to follow above every other, above any king, or any tradition. You, my daughter, should do what you feel is right."
Nala was silent for a time as she considered her father's words. "S... Scar wouldn't desire me if I was mated, would he? If another, stronger lion claimed me first?"
Meric raised a suspicious brow, wondering what his daughter had in mind. "No... I don't think he would find you as desirable then," he agreed, "But wha-"
"Daddy," Nala purred. She was on her feet again, pushing her head beneath his chin as she slid her body along his chest. "Daddy... You could mate with me. You could make it so he doesn't want me anymore."
Now it was Meric's turn to be taken aback. He quickly backed away. "No," he said firmly, "Nala... that isn't what I meant. You are my daughter, and I could never see you as anything else."
Nala was persistent however... yet another trait she'd acquired from him. "Daddy, please," she begged, "I can feel it you know... I'm not a cub anymore. My first... my first season is coming, and if not you then it will have to be Scar, or some other strange lion that... that claims me." She turned away from him, rather glad she couldn't see his mortified face reflecting back at her from the water. She knew he'd never understand, but the truth was Nala had put a lot of thought into this very problem, even before now. "If Simba or King Mufasa were here... I'd give myself to them without reservation... Mufasa was my king... Simba was my best friend... but they're not here anymore Daddy... You're the only mature male left. The only one I want as my first." She looked back, only to find that Meric's stance had softened, as if he was actually unsure, maybe even considering her proposal. "And if I do have to be bred... Daddy, I want the cubs to be yours... Please..."
Meric did not answer right away. How could he? The implications of what his daughter was asking of him were... immense to say the least. It was well within his rights of course, or so Mufasa had once told him. Though tradition held that the king was the one with his pick of the lionesses, that was because no other pride in history had held a position quite the same as Meric's, one that did not rule the pride, yet allowed the one holding it to stand on equal footing with the king himself. Like so many things, Mufasa had needed to determine those rules himself. This, however, was entirely different. This wasn't Sarabi, or some other lioness within the pride asking him to take their season so that the king could not claim it for his own. This was his daughter, his little cub, his flesh and blood... She was beautiful, to be sure, alluring even, but could he truly bring himself to do something so... repugnant, even in the name of protecting her?
Nala sensed his hesitation and his doubts. She slid forward again, and this time, not only wedged her head against his chin, but she began to slide almost seductively, bringing her enticing scent to his nose, letting him feel every strong, graceful curve of her body. Meric's mind was clouded, as any male's might be under such circumstances. His mind and all he'd been taught told him no, and yet... to have her here, like this... It felt so right. Still, he couldn't go through with it.
He stood up, ready to move away again. "Nala... daughter, do you understand what you're asking of me?" he asked, "It goes against the law of the Pridelands, the laws that Aiheu himself laid down to govern our way of life, and all reason."
Nala would not be denied... This mattered to her. It was more than about lust. She loved her father. He was the only male alive anymore, apart from her younger brother, that she could say that of, and the thought of losing herself to Scar, or to any other lion she didn't know horrified her. More than that, if what she was now planning was to work, she needed to be able to proceed without the distractions of her coming season. "What about the law written on your heart, Daddy?" she asked, "What does that tell you?"
Meric was stunned into silence as his own words so quickly came back to haunt him. What did his heart tell him? He bit his lip. Finally, he sighed, knowing that his own daughter had defeated him. He couldn't deny her what she was asking. "It tells me that I should do anything in my power to protect my family," he said, "And to make my loved ones happy." He paused and then looked at her. "I will do it... I'll mate with you, daughter."
Nala's ears perked up, eyes twinkling in that all-too-familiar way as she heard her father's acceptance. She rushed forward as though she were chasing down a fleeing zebra, all but tackling him as she took her father in a loving embrace, her cheek rubbing against his neck as a purr rumbled through her, and consequently, through his body as well. It sent shivers down the male's spine, but Nala had only just begun. She licked his neck tenderly. "I love you, Daddy," she whispered.
Meric could not help but smile, and returned her happy purr. He nuzzled her in return. "I love you too, my Nala," he said, "You and your siblings are the most precious treasures Aiheu has ever granted me."
Nala smiled and slowly backed away, only to begin rubbing under him again, just like before. This time Meric slowly lowered his muzzle, closing his eyes so as to better take in her scent. He smelled the familiar mix of her mother's fur and his from the long nights the sweet cub had spent nestled between them, but he also caught her own distinct female perfume. It smelled of youth and strength, but more than that, it also spoke of fertility, of need. It was easy to see how any male would be drawn to her, but for some reason she'd chosen him. She paused as his nose reached the base of her tail, where her scent was strongest, so near to her most feminine regions, the forbidden treasure that before this moment he'd never even thought to touch.
Nala teasingly flicked her tail past his nose as she completed her pass, coming back again. With Meric's eyes closed he thought she would simply pass under him again... but he was wrong. His eyes opened with sudden surprise as he felt her back fur brushing against his cream-colored belly fur, and he quickly realized what was happening.
Without realizing it, he'd become aroused by his daughter's actions, and now she was investigating like a curious cub. He felt her warm breath against the red tip of his member as it emerged from his sheath. Her tail waving in front of his eyes, spreading that delicious odor of hers for his nose to pick up only made things worse, especially as he felt Nala's tongue starting to lick at him. A deep, guttural purr emerged from the guardian then as his daughter paid him such slow, such tender affections.
Her scent grew stronger as her nethers began to moisten with her own arousal. Her licking grew ever more eager, longer as her tongue slid from his base to his tip. Meric's claws unsheathed as he began kneading the ground below him, trying to keep himself quiet for now. The thought that one of Taka's lackeys might see them and report to the king did occur to him, but between Nala's attentions and his own growing arousal, it was becoming more and more difficult focus on anything but her. He leaned down, letting his own tongue start to explore the sweet treasures beneath his daughter's tail. Her taste was as sweet as her scent, and he found himself groaning at the mere anticipation of entering into her and giving her what she so desperately seemed to desire.
He yelped as Nala suddenly took things a step further, wrapping her muzzle around his length and starting to suckle on it even as her tongue continued to work over his tip. She was rewarded as salty-sweet precum flowed into her muzzle, which the young lioness swallowed eagerly. For a short while, father and daughter remained like this, locked together like the most intimate of lovers, their bodies each growing more and more needful of the other as all other thoughts but their love for one another faded away.
At last, Nala drew away and turned her back to her father. Her front paws stretched out in front as her haunches lifted, tail drawn into the air an over her back to expose her sweet entrance to her father, the signal that she was ready.
Meric hesitated briefly, one last objection flowing through his mind about what he was going to now do, but he shoved it aside. He had come this far... there was no turning back from it now. He moved forward, slowly bringing his forelegs over her hips and pulling himself forward until he stood dominantly over her, frame held tall anness,d proud as though to challenge any who would deny his claim over the beautiful young female now below him.
His tip pressed firmly against her opening, drawing a moan from her. He could feel the heat of her, smell her arousal and the scent of the heat he had somehow managed to drive her into prematurely. Father leaned down and began to lick the scruff of her neck. "Ready Nala?" he asked.
"I'm ready, Daddy," she whispered, "Please, take me. Take me now."
Meric took her scruff between his teeth, biting down as he growled in lust. Nala's body stiffened in response and the guardian took his opportunity. His hips thrust forward, length plunging into his daughter's body.
Nala roared in equal parts pain and pleasure as she was penetrated for the first time. Never had she in her wildest dreams imagined what it would feel like, that she would feel as though she was being torn in two. Her father, like most lions, was not overly large, but with her walls so tight, so inexperienced, she certainly felt every inch.
He drew back, only to thrust forward again, this time deeper, starting into a strong, but measured pace. Nala's yowling turned to moans of pleasure as her father staked his claim inside of her and took the treasure she had so zealously guarded from Taka. Closing his eyes Meric took in every detail. He was aware of the heat of his daughter's loins, her soft fur brushing against his belly, her tail wrapped around his leg as if to hold him close. He could hear her every breath, her every moan and even the subtle moist sound of his length sliding within her folds. By now her heat scent was so strong he could taste it, and for the briefest of instants he found himself grateful that she'd had the sense to come to him, but his mind was quickly swallowed by the lust he felt for her once more.
Nala's body clenched eagerly around her father, milking him of every life-giving drop of seed. Her nectar flowed freely down his shaft, dripping to the ground along with her virgin blood. She rolled beneath him, trying desperately to get him in just a little deeper, to get him to touch a part of her that had not yet been. "D... Daddy!" she cried, "Daddy, something's happening to me. I... Ah... I feel like I'm going to explode!"
Meric licked her ears. "Just go with it, Nala," he urged, "Let your body go, and I'll follow." He wasn't sure how long he was joined with her like that, merged body, mind and soul... but eventually what her body had desired for so long was fulfilled. Nala released a roar as her body shuddered beneath her father, her walls like a vice around him as she lost all control.
Above her, Meric's body responded to her, her squeezing cunt finally throwing him over the edge. His mighty roar joined her own, echoing out over the Pridelands as a signal that his sweet daughter had at last been claimed. Wave after wave of hot, fertile lion seed flowed into her receptive womb, permanently joining her to him in a way no other would be able to ever understand.
As their orgasms faded, father and daughter finally drew apart. Nala collapsed while he lay beside her, nuzzling at her neck. "Feeling better?" Meric questioned.
Nala smiled, flicking her tail as he nudged her head beneath his and closed her eyes. "Mm... More than better Daddy," she said softly, "I never imagined... I mean... The way it felt-"
Meric chuckled warmly. "You don't have to explain," he assured her, "It was wonderful for me too... I love you my daughter, more than you could ever know."
"I love you too Daddy," she whispered, yawning. Although there were still troubles to deal with, for the moment, everything seemed at peace as the two fell asleep locked in each other's embrace. The sky overhead gave way to the Great Kings and their stars, and the sun rose again the next day.
When Meric opened his eyes that morning, she was gone... perhaps she would try to hunt, to get her mind off the previous day's events. Meric didn't sense that she'd gotten in any kind of trouble afterall. For the time being, he made his way into the den he and his family shared, pushing beneath the vines that hid the cave below Pride Rock from the rest of the world.
Inside, Sarafina, lay with young Mufasa II and his twin sister Kianga beside her. "Nala's gone then?" Sarafina asked softly, "She said she didn't want to disturb you."
Meric nodded slowly. "I suppose she is at that... If she's chosen to leave the Pridelands, Aiheu go with her..."
"Daddy, I thought you went with her." Kianga spoke up, struggling to lift her head. She was so thin now... struggling with the sickness that had come over her early on in her life. Somehow, the trials that had befallen the Pridelands were having a similar effect on her. Nevertheless, Kianga's blue eyes still shimmered with life and with an understanding far beyond her years.
"No sweetheart... Wherever Nala's gone, she's on her own."
Confusion crossed Kianga's face. "But Daddy... I thought for sure when she left the Pridelands, you went with her... There was someone else that felt so much like you..." Meric's eyes widened as he suddenly realized what Kianga was saying.
Four moons later everything had changed. The Pridelands were on the road to recovery. The herds were returning. Scar was dead and the hyenas had been driven away. The kingdom gathered beneath Pride Rock once more to celebrate another turn of the Circle of Life. Meric sat on the promontory with his family by his side, watching as Rafiki carried forward the new princess, the daughter of Simba and Nala and raised her into the air. As the kingdom went wild, the young queen for a moment turned to look back at her father. The two shared a secret smile... No one need ever know what happened that day between the Guardian and his daughter. No one needed to know the choice the young queen made, but as Meric watched the kingdom cheering on his newborn daughter, Kiara, the Guardian had never felt a greater sense of pride.
