CHAPTER 12

A big explosion pushes sonic and shadow to the floor; making them break the kiss and look around in nervousness. "What the?", sonic whispered hugging his mate in protection, shadow was pretty scared. After then another big explosion is in the whole city to hear; now was Sonics room and the living room burning in fire. Shadow couldn't resist to scream because of his fear and to cover his ears. The room was covered in flames, the bomb worked and exploded in 30 minutes. Outside behind bushes, Maurice and Aaron were celebrating with cries and typical teenage-sentences, although they aren't teenagers anymore. "MAURICE, AARON!", suddenly both mates hear their names and turn around in surprise; snake and speech came on to them running and screaming. "What's wrong?", Aaron asked them raising an eyebrow. "SHADOW IS INSIDE!!", snake shots them making Maurice and Aaron gasp in disgust, just when the last explosion of the bomb is to hear. Now was the whole mansion burning in fire. "NOOO SHADOW!!", snake cries his heart out seeing the house in flames, only because of his idea to kill sonic, maybe he killed shadow too. Inside the house sonic and shadow were coughing because of the smoke, they couldn't see anything and where they went, they had to go back because of that heat. Shadow was crying in despair, living the moment to be in a burning building again (the orphanage) shocked him a lot. "Sh-shadow, take my h-hand and don't let go!", sonic yells coughing to shadow, he couldn't hear himself, so obviously shadow neither, he had to scream. The black hedgehog obeys in a second and takes Sonics hand in despair; he was shivering, sobbing and coughing. Suddenly the floor brakes down and shadow falls in a hole, which had a ground only in two floors below: "SHADOW!", sonic screams squeezing his hand trying to not let him fall down. But then also Sonics sole breaks and makes him fall; but right in time he grabs himself at an unbroken-floor and stops the crush. Shadow was grabbing himself at a piece of wood releasing Sonics hand; the blue hedgehog had to hold himself with both hands or he could fall in the flames.

Sonic and shadow didn't know what to do, they were there hanging, and if they release what they're grabbing, they'll die. "Sh-Shadow, don't let go!!", sonic yells at his ¨brother¨ crying of fear; then a bad thing happens. The wood shadow was holding, had a screw looking outside, burning; and because shadows hand was a little slipping, the screw buries himself into his hand and burns it; not to mention that he opened shadows whole hand because of it's slipping. "AAAAAH!!!!!", shadow screams in pain and disgust, the screw opened his whole hand-vein, he was bleeding like crazy and couldn't hold himself anymore. "Shadow No! Don't let go!!", sonic cries out to shadow, trying to take his hand. But it didn't work, shadow couldn't resist anymore his pain on his arm that he releases the wood and falls down. "SHADOW!!", sonic screams to him seeing him fall; shadow came after one second on the ground with a hard stroke on his back that made him jump a bit. That was painful; shadow couldn't move his hand and his legs were paralyzed. The black hedgehog couldn't see sonic anymore looking up, everything was black of smoke, but he could hear Sonics voice, that voice which he loved. After a while, hearing Sonics cries, shadow stays unconscious. "SHADOW!", sonic repeated that name over and over, he wanted to hear him, ALIVE! But suddenly happens something terrible, the ceiling was collapsing, making sonic scream in despair. A scream didn't work to save the ceiling, it was collapsing in thousand pieces full of flames down to sonic; the blue hedgehog takes the wood shadow was grabbing and protects his head with it. But then a piece of the ceiling falls down with a lot of speed to Sonics hand: "AAAAAAAAH!!", sonic screams in pain, that piece of ceiling just hit his hand; and it was just that hand he was holding him with. Feeling that horrible pain, he can't resist releasing the wood; Sonic was falling to the ground and the whole ceiling was fallowing him. After that, the mansion was silence, except for those noises coming from the flames.

The building collapsed, while the fire gets bigger. The neighbors were calling the firefighters in panic; a lot of people from other streets went to the mansion to see what was happening. Whole families were staring at it, gasping and crying in sadness; not to mention snake and the prostitutes behind the bushes. "It... can't... be", snake whispers letting a lot of tears fall through his cheeks; Maurice and Aaron were paralyzed, while speech couldn't breathe. Under the rubbles, one could hear someone coughing like crazy; sonic was still alive! He had a lot of scratches, and he's right leg was broken buried under a stone; he never felt that much pain, but he also didn't want to die. The blue hedgehog hardly could open his eyes, see n'or recognize something; everything was covered in rubble and stones. Sonic tried to move his head and look around, somehow he had to say to those people outside hear that he's buried. But first he looked for someone else; looking to the left side; sonic finds his big love unconscious 3 steps away from him. "Sh-shadow?", sonic stutters with a muffled voice, he couldn't see if the black hedgehog was breathing or not. "S-shadow, we're gone to survive, I promise!", sonic whispers over to him letting teardrops fall down. "Sh-shadow please, stay with me", the blue hedgehog begged him crying and suffering; then he stretches, in pain, his left hand over to shadows right hand and takes it. "I love you shadow", sonic whispers crying, knowing now the simple truth.

After a moment waiting, the firefighters arrive and started putting out the fire, while Sonics parents came on and stayed shocked and paralyzed in the car. "SONIC!!", Sofia and her husband cried out running from the car in direction to the mansion (to hell with the house, they want their son). "Stop we're working, please don't transgress the line", one of the firefighters mentions stopping their way. "No you don't understand, my son is in there!", sonics father shots him in despair, making the firefighter gasp; they really thought the building would be empty. "Let me in!", Sofia yells trying to escape from those arms which were stopping them; "Madam please I promise you, we'll rescue your son from the building", the firefighters tries to calm her down. "Promise me you'll rescue him alive and I'll calm down", she says sobbing in disgust, the firefighter makes a worried face and doesn't answer her. "PROMISE IT TO ME!!", sofia cries her heart out in despair, but the firefighter leaves Sonics parents in hands of the police and goes away leaving her without an answer. "No please understand me, don't you have a son or a daughter please!!", sofia cried to the police who tried to ignore her, but he knew exactly from what she was talking about. While Sofia and her husband try to convince the police and the firefighters to let them in, sonic was coughing under the rubbles, waiting for them to rescue him. He could hear the alarm of the police-cars and the fire-trucks outside; that gave him hopes to survive and to have shadow again with him. The firefighters already extinguished the fire and started to excavate slowly and carefully in the ashes, while the ambulance was on its way. "Here is a teenager, 15 or 16 years old!", one of the firefighters yells to the others (he's 17 you jerk); while Sofia keeps crying and begging to see her son alive. Finally after hours digging and extinguish the fire, sonic comes out in a stretcher and receives cheers from the firefighters, police and doctors for surviving. Sofia happy runs to his child and hugs him in despair and happiness: "Oh my child, thank god you're alive, I was so scared!!!", she cries out still shivering of disgust. Sonic smiles to her, answering her embrace sobbing.

"Mom shadow is down there, please take him out!", but then sonic stutters to his mother in fear, making her gasp. "Wait here's someone else!", the same firefighter yells, taking shadow with the others in another stretcher out. "Shadow!!", the blue hedgehog shots in concern, seeing him in that state; the doctors couldn't find his pulse, and sonic thought the worst. After then, sonic and shadow were inside the ambulance, being transported to the hospital. The blue hedgehog doesn't resist doing the same thing then before, stretching his left hand over to shadows right hand and take it. Sofia was next to both, seeing his son knowing the truth; she was crying and smiling of pride and she was right in every single word she said. Sofia kissed the blue hedgehog on his forehead, while he was taking shadows hand. After some minutes, sonic falls asleep, but not releasing shadows hand.
