He sighed, his breath leaving quickly as he lied on his back, his translucent wings spread on either side of him. It was all he could do; lie there while he waited for his only ally to fall asleep. He listened as the gryphon's breathing slowed ever so slightly, the only sign he had sunk into the dark void of sleep and unconsciousness. Using an arm, he rolled himself onto his side to look at the feathered beast near him. His feathers were a glossy gray-black, like a mix between a fire burning and storm clouds. The sleek fur of his lower half was more of a midnight blue-black.

The avian had a blade in his taloned hand. The wicked steel reflected what little moonlight filtered through the canopy of leaves; the green leafs waving softly as small puffs of air come now and again. He saw as the bird stirred in his sleep, his beak opening slightly to mutter in his native language, one he was not versed in. Smiling softly, he watched the peaceful expression on his ally's face and felt his heart swell. How he wished to tell this one person, the only one who could possibly understand, the truth about himself.

He reached a paw out and hesitated as it shadowed the gryphon's own. His gold eyes watched the black scales and the bracelet on his hand as he drew his hand back, closing it into a fist. He hated the dye he had used. It was the only thing keeping him alive and save though. This game's rule maker would be delighted, no, ecstatic, to know that he had kidnapped the prince. It was a secret he was growing tired of holding from his ally.

That creature had said it was a game of survival and cooperation, combining tough and weak, the rich and the poor, the civilized and the savage. The avian had admitted to stealing to him already, but not much went to the bird. His ally gave to the others who needed it and kept only what was needed to survive. He had been out to the poor as a black dragon, but couldn't help like he wanted to. He would need to change that. If they both survived this game.

Last Chance

His jaw hung open as he panted, his breathing coming in as gasps as he came upon the house. He ran up the stairs like he had for blocks and turned the handle. The door was locked and he cursed softly in his mind. Stepping back a bit, he charged with...

Dangerous Enemy

Thunder sounded loud and true, cracking like a whip as the downpour of cold, stinging rain ran through his coarse fur, dragging the tip of his bloody sword over the ground. They had taken his friend, they had stood in his way, they had to die for the...

Shadow Falling

Blood poured freely from his side. He had dropped his short sword a while back, using a paw to cover the grave wound. He stumbled on in the dark, the moon full as full and bright as a morning sun. Twigs and rocks threaten to trip him repeatedly, trying...
