#3 of Fighting Spirit

Wow I don't know why, maybe its the free time but I'm on a roll. Its like trying to ride a bike after 20 years or something to that extent. The more I un-rust the better I feel. Hopefully I can continue to push myself to write while using the free time I do have at this current moment. Overall, my mind is full of ideas, and well I want to see how far I can take this plot going. Hah wish me luck and hope you all enjoy it.

Feeling Torchic getting weaker by the minute, Ryan went into a sprint to head back home as fast as possible. "It'll be okay. Don't you dare go out on me. You'll be just fine I promise you!" Managing to reach the door, he flung it open yelling out for his grandfather.

"Gramps! Come quickly I got something that needs immediate attention! It's now or never gramps!"

Trevor who was working upstairs with Sheryl quickly ran downstairs to see Ryan holding a wounded Torchic in his arms.

"Well I'll be damned my boy, you actually brought back home a pokemon and what's even more surprising, your trying to tend to its wounds. Well, don't just stand there like a Deerling staring at the headlights! Place Torchic on the living room couch."

Ryan quickly obeyed, placing Torchic gently on the sofa. "Will she be alright gramps? She took one hell of a beating and I think some of her ribs are broken..."

Trevor quickly rummaged through the shelves pulling out a First Aid Kit made for pokemon. Quickly going to Torchic's side, Trevor sprayed some healing gel while re-wrapping Torchic with actual bandages.

"Before you say anything, let her rest. If she uses any more of her strength it can be fatal. For now, she needs to recover while letting the wounds slowly close up. Don't stress over it my boy. She's fine but.. just in case.. Sheryl!! I'm going to need you down here."

The Arcanine Sheryl went right to Trevor. "I'm going to take Ryan out for his daily training. For now keep an eye out on this Torchic and let me know if anything else goes wrong. She's out cold but that doesn't mean she won't panic when she wakes up. Is that alright with you?"

Sheryl lets out a bark while proceeding to lie on the floor watching Torchic.

"Alright Ryan my boy, let's go. It's time for your training." Trevor walks out heading toward the back yard of the house. Ryan still worried about Torchic finally let out a sigh of relief following his grandfather shortly afterward.

"So gramps what is it today?" Ryan pondered since he has nearly learned everything his grandfather had to offer.

"Today Ryan, it's going to be different. For now, take a seat. I'm going to tell you things about your past as well as secrets that will now be revealed to you. Before you speak, I feel you are now ready to hear all of this." Trevor waits patiently while Ryan gets comfortable, lying back on a tree stump ready to hear what his grandfather is about to share.

"Ryan there are many things you do not know. Even about yourself you have little to no clue of what potential you possess as well as who you really are. Did you ever think to yourself why we live secluded up on these mountains? How you ever came into my care and what your father's last words truly meant? Even now you possess three things that were of great value to your father. The hat, watch, and necklace are all that is left but it carried great weight for your father. Before I go more into the details let me tell you about the nightmare you have been dreading. Before your world completely collapsed, your father put everything on the line to get you to safety. He even called one of his old friends Fergo or if you're confused, it's the Pidgeot that carried you here. It may not mean much but your father let Fergo go because of two things. One was that he wished for Fergo to be happy and two, Fergo was an adventurous type always wanting to explore but since you were born, he had a wife and a child he could not abandon so with great burden, he did what he had to do. Fergo of course understood the situation but to call him back is much harder than you think. Overall when I saw you unconscious and laying at my doorstep with Fergo, I was in utter despair wondering what on earth could have happened but, enough about me, there is something you yourself must see. Ryan, press the two buttons on the side of the watch at the same time and input the code 54-S3."

Ryan did what his grandfather wanted which brought up a small holographic display that showed a required password. Entering in the code, it brought up one message. The date was 5 years old. Pressing the "Open" feature, it turned into a hologram message revealing his father Walter.

"My son, if you are seeing this then well I'm probably long gone if not dead by now. But worry not my son, because if you are hearing what I'm about to tell you, it means you did something that may have taken many years to achieve. I know the pain that shook your very core was heart breaking when you watched Eevee pass away but you are a Verrick and a Verrick cannot stand the test of time alone without a companion and you know what I'm talking about. Unlike your mother, your grandfather is also a true blooded Verrick and thus so am I. Your mother on the other hand came from a different family but none the less I truly loved her which brought you into this world as well. Being a Verrick is special my son and there are those who wish to seek the secrets we hold deep within even to the point of hunting every last one of us down. Your grandmother sacrificed herself to save me while your grandfather, was sadly away on a journey during the time. But to put it short, we Verricks are a secret family blood line that has been around since the very first encounters with pokemon. The powers we hold can only be true when we have a chosen companion which of course is a pokemon. Unlike other people who can have many pokemon, we are only able to choose one and if we lose our companion.. well you experienced it yourself. It's like having your very soul ripped out of your body. Before this message ends, you need to know what I was trying to achieve. Right now, the people of this world are a secular race only believing in themselves to be the superior ones while all others are trash which includes pokemon. They don't understand what a harmonic resonance really is and most fear it. But, through my travels I learned that at one point in time, mankind and pokemon stood side by side facing a greater evil that threatened the lives of everyone on this planet. It may sound like a legend but know this; there are also extremely powerful pokemon out there. If they can bend the will of space and time if not more, what's there to doubt? I know there are technological marvels to understand pokemon but it's never 100% perfect. The necklace that I gave to you can only be unlocked if it sees the wearer worthy. You'll understand soon enough but.. time is running out. I love you son and will always do so even if I'm not around. Your mother and I can't wait to see the day when we are all together again but, dry your tears my son and be proud of what you are. Wear that hat with pride because it's been passed down for many generations and be strong. You will make many enemies in your quest."

The hologram faded as well as the message itself. "Gramps I don't understand. This is just too much for me to handle in one sitting. I won't say I don't believe it but truly this isn't what I was expecting one bit."

Trevor amused at Ryan's reaction began to speak. "You took it a lot better than I expected but today there is one last test. The necklace you now wear holds a special power. Within the Ranger Pendant, is a small crystalized gem that's been tempered through means we humans cannot even comprehend. Break away the metal sheathe and reveal to yourself its true form."

Ryan took no time after that. Picking up two stones, he began to gently break away the metal surrounding the gem. When it was revealed, it sparked a strong light that surged through Ryan's body.

"This is your last training session as well as a final test. If you choose to pick up the Verrick name and walk you will be tested. But if you choose to live a life with no meaning then the gem will take away everything you possess within your body allowing you to live a normal life but remember, taking the test also has consequences. If you fail, your life will be taken instead."

Without hesitation, Ryan stood up ready to do what he felt was right. "I'm all over it gramps. I want to do what I can to help no matter the cost and if this so called gem can grant me the power I need then so be it."

Trevor couldn't help but feel proud of his grandson. "Then lie down and close your eyes. You spirit will be lifted. The rest you'll just have to find out on your own."

Lying on the ground and going into a meditative state, Ryan felt himself being dragged out of his body. Opening his eyes, he found himself in front of the Altar of Arceus.

"Yeah, anyone here? Hello?" Ryan's doubt got crushed when Arceus himself appeared before him.

"Child of Truth, why have you disturbed my rest? Do you wish to seek the path your ancestors before you tried to obtain? Know this; there were only 3 of you that managed to impress me. Your father only obtained half for he was not fully worthy. What makes you worthy Child?

Ryan pondered for a moment but the answers came to him like a sack of bricks. "Arceus in all honesty I seek nothing nor am I worthy to receive anything. If it so pleases you, you can always erase my very existence but know this. What I seek is truth. Why mankind has fallen so low as well as the darkness this world holds. I want to be able to fight against it as well as making a difference not for myself, but for every pokemon out there. Why must we be so split off as if a chasm is in-between each of us? I'm tired of this and if I can make a difference I will." A bit worried, Ryan closed his eyes expecting the worst but all he received was a small pat on the head.

"Your answer intrigues me human. Ha-ha it's been so long since I have had one such as yourself appear before me. None the less I will grant you your wish. Take one jewel upon my crested waist and imbue it with the necklace you possess. When you do so, you will be granted abilities to help you on your quest. Good luck human and farewell. I expect great things from you Child." After a flash of light, Ryan woke up seeing his grandfather sitting beside him. Opening his right hand revealed the jewel he obtained from Arceus.

"Gramps I know what I must do. Starting tomorrow I'm going to head out and see what mankind has done through laws and other means." Placing the gem and the jewel together, it formed a small round sphere of golden blue.

"Alright then my boy. I'll start packing up some gear for your journey. But first let's see how Torchic is doing." Getting up, Trevor went back into his home. Ryan following in suit went to Torchic's side.

"Hey are you doing alright?" Speaking to Torchic, she responded.

"I'm doing fine thanks. I really appreciate all that you have done for me." Understanding exactly what she said, Ryan was a bit puzzled. "Gramps you didn't give Torchic a communicator did you? I know you have one yourself but aren't those things worth quite a pretty penny? Infact did you give me one?" Feeling around for a communicator, Ryan found no such thing.

"Ryan, you've been granted the power to understand pokemon. It's a good gift and not one to take lightly." Trevor chuckled.

"Wow, well this sure changes things. I always wondered what'd it be like to understand pokemon but hey this is quite a nice pace of things." Turning towards Torchic, Ryan spoke out.

"I know it may be too soon to ask and of course you have the full authority to say no but what do you feel about traveling with me? I.. I'd like to give it another shot and well it seems we both can use some company."

Torchic slowly got up to a sitting position. "I'd be happy to. Ryan was it? I'd also prefer a name because.. well you know it's kind of annoying to be called what you are. It's like saying human to every person out there."

Ryan laughed a bit at this. "Alright, well from here on out your name will be Blaire. Is that alright with you?"

Torchic smiled. "Yes its perfectly fine but, allow me to rest a bit more. I'm doing much better than before but it's still somewhat painful to move."

"Of course Blaire no problem and to you Sheryl, thanks for watching her."

"You're welcome Ryan. I'm glad to help and it's good to see you finally smile for a change. Keep it that way." Ryan filled with a bit more joy patted Sheryl on the head.

"Alright well I'd best get ready myself. This is going to be one hell of a trip."
