I wrote this story shortly after returning from Student Life Camp with my church.

The Church Dragon - Part 3

Monday, December 21, 2009

By Labatryth Lyndynhyra                    Slowly Manda walked from in front of me, clearing the way for me to crawl through the hall. Chances are, I would be causing even more damage to this already dilapidated building on my way out. I don't know why I went to church that day. I should have stayed home. But I seriously doubt my parents would allow that. Now all hell had broken loose, just because I forgot Isalinde's blood stone! Without the stone I'd appear a Dragon forever! At least, until I found it again...        "Manda, you...you don't know what has happened to me."        "Yes I do. You're a Dragon. So what?"        "So what?! SO what? I'm going to have to leave my parents, quite possibly for a very long time. Can you at least figure THAT out?"        She shrugged uncaringly. "Why?"        Trying to talk in terms a human could understand, I looked at the window, and sighed, then looked down at Manda. "Okay. There's this stone. A friend of mine, named Isalinde, made it for me."        Manda nodded. "Got it. There's a stone..."        "What it does is make Dragons such as I appear human. Without it I'll look this way forever."        "So?"        "SO....my parents won't even recognize me! I'll be hunted as a monster! I've got to find it."        Finally Manda looked worried. "Oooh!"        "Maybe it's in the drawer underneath my TV and N64. But to get there I'll have to find a way out of this building."        "A-Alright." the girl said with uneasiness. "You're the boss."        She dashed out the door, her coat rustling, and me trying my best to follow her close behind. It was difficult indeed. The only other way out was through the kitchen, which required squeezing through a space that was even smaller than the hall I was crawling through now.          "Gah!" Manda yelped, as she witnessed the power with which I came towards the exit. She was watching me through the window.        As I pulled my tail out of the nursery, the door to the girls bathroom smashed to the floor and I fell onto it, crushing it as a cracker or cookie. It seems my body had pushed against it while writhing to get out of the place. Nobody would be using that door anymore...        Soon I reached the exit, but there was no way I could squeeze through a single doorway. Out of mere frustration I slammed my head into the double doors and knocked both doors out, shattering them in the process.        Meanwhile Manda only became excited. "Awesome!"        Now I just had to push through the opening. Forcing myself through the doorway, I caused the walls to buckle. I did make it onto the porch however. There was a little roof that hung over the porch area, and that was gone nearly as soon as I touched it. If the humans wanted to repair this building they might as well forget it; it would be cheaper to build a new one.        "Urg! Come ON!" I said, yanking the rest of my body out onto the grass.        Manda had nothing to say except a "Wow".        I now lay on the grass, free from the constraint of a tiny building. Through the blurry glass church windows I could hear the church organ, or piano rather. Karen was tickling those glossy white keys with ease as always, as I was going through a daytime nightmare revealing myself out in the open, in this totally human world. Just the fact that nobody knew of my secret, or what had happened to me, and

went about their lives, angered me greatly. I let out a growl, and Manda promptly backed away from me, leaning against the white fence surrounding the propane tank for the Sunday school barracks. With me around this tank was literally a bomb. Quickly I quelled my desire for violence, and whipped my tail close, standing up and laying it on the ground.        "Get on! We have no time! Come on!" I said frantically.        Finally I could stretch my wings. Oh, what comfort. As I spread my wings bones crunched from being so free to move. Soon I could become my true size. Manda hurried over, surprisingly, and scaled my tail and climbed up onto my back. It was like she was READY for this. It's possible she isn't human either.        "Alright. Hold on to my ma-"        Someone was coming around the sidewalk. THE IDIOTS! Why did they have to pick THIS time to come a-walking down the sidewalk? I had only seconds to get off the ground. Quickly I gave my mane a great shake and flapped my†We arose from the ground just as Jacob, a good friend of mine, saw us. Doing a double take, he yelped and ran back for church. I didn't CARE what happened next. I wouldn't be there.        "Manda! Grab my mane and let's go!"        "OKAY!"        "Shut up! No shouting!"        "Well, YOU are!"        "That doesn't...ugh!"        I had no patience with anyone or anything, right now. Flapping my wings, we arose till the church looked as a brick with a white object on top(the steeple), and I sped off towards the direction of home, which was about seven miles away. My great leathery black wings rose and fell on either side of my body, and Manda gave a gasp. Maybe she wasn't so fearless after all. Craning my neck, I glanced back at her, blowing heat out my mouth because of how hard I was working to get away from the place.        "I hope you used the bathroom. We'll be going about two hundred fifty, at least."        "TWO HUNDRED FIFTY!" the girl exclaimed. "YOU CRAZY!?"        "Perhaps." I said, finally managing a somewhat convincing chuckle.        Onward we flew, at an altitude of one thousand feet or so. The cars on the highway were like ants. Looking down I could see the plumbing store, but I was quite sure Manda couldn't even look down in the first place. She was too terrified. Pleased with how intimidating I was to her, I just smiled, staring straight ahead. I wasn't proud. For me this was normal. I just had to pray the military didn't come after us.
