#2 of An Unexpected Journey

soooo it took more than a few days (sorry! I had an annoyingly busy week) but it looks like I will do weekly releases of chapters, just to give you guys a time frame. Enjoy! Sound off in the comments below!

After a few moments we finally arrived at my old high school. It took a few minutes to find a parking spot because we arrived a few minutes late. I got out of the car and stared at the building. It was over 5 years ago that I was a senior getting ready for graduation. Do I really want to see all of my "friends" I havent talked to in years? Rachel glanced over at me and saw the blank look on my face.

"Jeremy..." she said putting her hand on my shoulder, "put on a smile... I know you may not be entirely happy for all your old friends that may or may not have super amazing jobs," she rammed into my side with a giggle, "but seriously, if they were your friends they are going to be proud and interested in your accomplishments and your goals for the future." She proceeded by wrapping her arm around mine as we headed up to the front doors of the school.

"Jeremy!!!" I heard as I was attacked by someone who gave me an enormous hug.

"Oh my god! Cassie! It has been so long,"

"Too long!" she responded and gave me another hug.

Cassie was one of my best friends throughout middle school and high school. She was creative and outgoing and she was easily elected Student Body President. We made the most of our time together in high school. We would go to dances together as single best friends, but after we graduated we lost touch. Thanks to social media we still got to see major events that were going on in each others lives including Cassies's recent engagement.

"and this must be your fiance, James," I held my hand out and received a firm handshake.

"Yes it's great to finally meet you and please, call me Jim"

"And is this your date?" Cassie chimed in.

"Yes, you remember Rachel Limpert don't you? She was two years below us."

"Ah! Yes ofcouse! I barely recognize you dear, how are you?"

"Doing well thank you and congrats on your engagement," Rachel smiled.

"Why thank you!" Cassie grabbed Rachel and walked a few steps ahead of Jim and myself.

"Ah well I guess we should follow," I said sacasically

"So tell me," Cassie whispered to Rachel, "Are you and Jeremy together??"

"Oh no, we're just good friends" Rachel began to explain as Cassie cut her off.

"Oh that's a shame. Jeremy deserves a nice girl in his life and you two are just perfect"

"Who's perfect together?" I chimed in, pretending I didnt overhear their conversation.

"You and Rachel," Cassie said matter of factly.

"That's why I invited her!" I looked over at Rachel and winked

Right after we entered the building we heard a young woman screaming Cassie's name.

"...great" Cassie said unamused, "I have to go take care of this. Listen it was great catching up and I would love keep talking so save me a dance later?" she asked.

"Absolutely," I smiled as Cassie and Jim ran off. And just like that another familiar face came walking by.

"Jeremy? is that you?"

"Ryan. Hey bro what's up?"

"I'm pretty good man I'd ask how you are but I can see you have been very busy," he said rubbing his stomach.

"haha yes sir! Weight doesn't lose itself," I joked.

"That's awesome. What'd you lose? like 75 pounds?"

"125 actually. I gained more weight at the beginning of college but then I realized going up a flight of stairs should not make me out of breath," I said jokingly.

"Holy shit... look at you... you've got some guns," as he pointed to my biceps.

"thanks," I chuckled as I flexed for him.

"AND I'm sure Rachel here enjoys that"

"oh I do," Rachel giggled.

"Are you still with Sam?" I questioned directing the questioning off myself.

"As a matter of fact we just got engaged."

"ofcourse you did..." I muttered making Rachel laugh in the process.

"Don't worry bro, you'll find the right girl," Ryan said putting his hand on my shoulder, "well it was great catching up," he then held his hand out and I gave him our old secret handshake we used to share with a few friends. "Shit! You remembered?"

"Heck yeah! How could I forget? We did it all the time back in the day! I'll see ya in a bit, hopefully the old gang shows up."

"Yeah I hope so too," Ryan said.

As Ryan walked away Rachel yelled, "see ya Ryan!"

He turned around and waved back to her. "God I hate him," she said under her breath, making me laugh in the process.

"So..." Rachel began, "you'll find the right girl..." she trailed off, waiting for an explaination.

"Don't even..." I started as she cut me off.

"Why don't you just tell them that you're gay? It's not a big deal. They won't care."

"I know they won't care... I just don't feel like validating myself to everyone tonight. If I told people tonight that's all we'd talk about and I just want to catch up with standard questions. When I told my friends from college they all accepted me, but we did talk about it for a few weeks... I dont want to go through that tonight"

"I understand. You don't have to tonight, but at the 10 year reunion if you have a boyfriend... it's gonna be all they talk about then."

"... soooo we'll cross that bridge when we get there," I smirked.

"haha Classic Jeremy, procrastinating," Rachel smiled, "Are you ready to head to the gym for some drinks?"

"I'm actually going to head to the restroom real fast..."

"Your bladder!" Kelly interrupted, "You always have to go!"

"No I don't!" I exclaimed, slightly embarrassed.

"mmhmmm"

"I'll meet you there, ok?"

"All right... but hurry up!" she demanded as she gave me a hug. After a brief hug she walked off in the direction of the gym as I walked off to the restroom. As I walked down the hall many memories from my high school years came flooding back. That's when I saw it. Locker 327, my old locker. I stood there for several moments as I reminced many joyful memories, instantly forgetting why I even came down this hallway in the first place.

Suddenly I heard a strange tapping noise. It was very rythmic... as if someone was tapping their fingers on a desk one after another in a rapid pattern. I looked over in the direction of the noise but the very end of the hallway was completely dark. I could start to make out a tall figure heading in my direction, it was atleast 6' 7" but other than that I couldn't tell who it was.

"I've been waiting for you, Zanith" the figure stated as it made its way out of the shadows.

I looked around to see if anyone else was around that this figure could possibly be talking to. After seeing no one else was around I decided to respond, "uhh, you're going to have to keep waiting. My name isn't Zanith."

"Ha Ha that's right... you wouldn't remember," he interrupted.

At this point I felt uneasy. I now remembered why I made my way down this hallway.

"Well if you'll excuse me I need to..."

"That's not going to happen," the figure interrupted again, finally emerging from the shadows. I was horrified by what I was seeing. It was the lion... or atleast I think it was the same lion. It didn't look like any lion I have ever seen. It was standing upright on two feet. He was wearing some sort of red and blue head piece that reminded me of something a Native American would have worn. He had a huge furry mane that, if he wasn't threating me, I'd like to touch. He wore a brown vest which nicely complimented his chest as it was left open so his pecs were bulging out. All he wore below the waist was a white fundoshi.

All right enough analyzing him, I thought. I need to start backing away. I took one step back, on the verge of running for it when I heard Rachel's voice.

"Jeremy! Hurry up!" her voice echoed. She must be atleast a few hundred feet away. I heard her steps get closer and closer to turning the corner and seeing this beast and me in the hallway.

"I will rip her to shreds," the lion threatened, "unless you come with me now."

There was no decision to be made. I don't want anything to happen to Rachel. I had to go with the lion. He held out his paw waiting for me to grab it. After a short hesitation I extended my arm and gave him my hand. He suddenly pulled me in tight and hit a button on a remote, something I did not notice he had.

"Hold on," the lion growled as if I did something wrong.

I saw Rachel turn the corner, look in our direction and keep walking toward the men's room.

"She didn't see us..." I said confused.

"No I imagine she wouldn't. We're in phase two of the transportation cycle."

"I'm sorry the what?"

"Don't worry about it"

"No! I demand to know where we are going," I yelled.

The lion just held me tighter. I would be enjoying this if I wasn't scared shitless.

"You already agreed to coming... and there is no going back now"

"WHAT?!" I screamed

"That was the last you'll see of your friends human," the lion roared, "I hope you enjoyed it."

I looked around as the hallway became distorted and fuzzy. I felt very dizzy. I felt the lion's grip begin to loosen. This was my chance to break away. Although very disoriented, I punched the lion with all my might and pushed myself out of his grasps. I heard the lion rawr in anger as I drifted out of consciousness...
