Bobby closed his eyes and took a deep breath 'that was too close' he thought to himself crawling back into the tube, picked up the welder and resumed splicing wires together.

On the bridge, Emma was making final adjustment to the last interface "Emma how it going" Sandy asked entering the bridge

"Great, we should operational soon" Emma replied.

Emma spotted something on Sandy's shoulder, she went over and picked off what looked like white cat hair off her uniform, and suddenly the bridge came to life.

A few minutes later, Bobby walked on to the bridge "Computer" he said

"Working" the computer replied

"Display airlock door" he said, a picture of the airlock came on a nearby screen.

"Computer, close airlock" the airlock door slid closed "Open airlock, computer" he said

"Unable to comply, please restate command" the computer said.

Bobby smiled "Computer, open airlock" the airlock door slid open

"Very cool" Emma said "computer, close bridge door",

"Unable to comply, unknown user" the computer replied

"What" Emma said?

"Computer, add users Emma and Sandy" Bobby said

"Emma, just say your name",

"Emma" Emma said

"User Emma added, voice string stored" the computer reported

"What does it mean voice string stored" Sandy asked

"User Sandy added, voice string stored" the computer reported.

"Basically it has record the sound of your voice and any command you give now will be processed unless there is a conflicts with other stuff" Bobby said. "Like if I asked the computer to power up the engines, it would tell me it could not because we are currently docked with a station"

"Very cool" Sandy said.

Four pirate cruisers slowly passed out of a nearby nebula cloud followed by four dozen fighters. Their target...Freeport 2.

"Red alert, pirate ships approaching, all hands to battle stations" the station's speakers blared, people started running, some to the fighter bays, some to the docking rings, others just sat at the bar and ordered another drink.

When Emma and Sandy heard this they raced back to the ship, when they got to the airlock it was closed "Where's the ship" Sandy asked Emma, suddenly they were engulf in a bright green light and both felt light-headed and weight-less as if they were floating in space.

The light faded after a few seconds, the girls were facing a bulkhead, "Welcome back, Josh and Anna are ready to leave" Bobby said standing behind them, he had transported them aboard, they both started patting themselves down but everything had rematerialised where it should be

"Come on, the pirates are almost here" he said then started running, the girls followed as fast as they could but they lost him as climb up a ladder.

The bridge door slid closed behind Emma and Sandy "Josh, status" Bobby yelled, the ship rocked under weapons fire

"Shields holding, FTL system spooled up, ready for jump" Josh reported

"Jump" Bobby ordered.

Space twisted around the ship as it made the jump then returned to normal as the ship reached its destination "We have arrived in the Orion system" Anna said

"Set course for Orion 6, please" Bobby said "open hailing frequency".

"Open" Anna said

"Orion 6 approach, this is the Akira requesting permission to dock at the orbital platform" Bobby said

"Akira, Orion 6 approach permission granted, you have three hour then you will be able to orbit until another space becomes available" orion 6's duty officer replied

"Thank you" Bobby replied

"Space 1 awaits you" Orion 6's duty officer said,

"Begin docking procedures" Bobby said. The ship docked with airlock 1,

"Bobby, message from the Jacinta, her captain will be waiting for you in the bar" Anna said curiously,

"Really, it will be nice to see Sara again" Bobby said sarcastically "even if she's been a pain in ass since high school".

Bobby, Sandy and Emma walked into the Orion bar; it was dimly lit yet still quite exciting. Sandy notice as they entered people turned to look at them then went about their business, one table packed with girls continued to watch and talk amongst themselves as Bobby moved passed them towards the bar and ordered some drinks

'They must like Bobby' she thought

They talk after a few minutes, then Bobby's nostrils flared like he was smelling some food "Haven't see you in ages, Bobby" a cool female voice said,

They all turned, there was a beautiful catian female, about 5"7 she had dark grey or black fur with a hint of blue and white, she wore a dark blue satin dress

"Sara, it has been ages, I see you've got yourself a new ship, congratulations, I hope your father didn't spend too much on it" Bobby said

"Same old Bobby, you still flying that old hunk of junk transport ship" Sara replied shaking her head

"No I have upgraded since then with money from a nice easy charter" he replied.

Sara shook her head again letting her white mane swish freely then looked at Sandy and Emma, Sara said something in catian

"These are two members of my crew, the other two are on the ship" Bobby replied

"Anyway I have to get back, nice meet you, good-bye Bobby" Sara said then she stepped up and kissed Bobby full on the muzzle, said something in catian, turned, took six steps and gave him a coy smile over her shoulder, Bobby smiled, Sandy looked at Sara from head to toe as she left, something didn't add up

"Looks like you have some competition" Emma whispered to Sandy

"If she does anything to hurt him I'll kick her ass all the way back to her home world" Sandy replied

"Hey Bobby, how far is it to your home world" Emma asked

"Catia is currently way beyond our red-line, it's about a hundred and seventy-five light-years from here" Bobby replied still smiling as he watched Sara disappear out the door.

The red-line represented the safe jump limit of a ship's faster-than-light drive capability; a jump over the red-line is extremely dangerous. Very few ships have survived a jump even five light-years over their respective red-lines.

"That's pretty far" Sandy said "How long would it take us to get there",

"A couple of days I suppose" Bobby answered "Why do you ask?"

"No reason" she replied "Your friend Sara is a unusual person"

"she is isn't she, we used to fly though Catia's ice fields together in light fighters and collected water to sell at Kittyhawk station" Bobby said "we'd make about 900 credits a day before our parents found out"

"Did they stop you" Emma asked

"No but they did take most of our profit after that" Bobby replied "They bought us some freighters to use instead" one catian girl rose from the table and moved towards them.

"Pirate cruisers approaching, all pilots to your stations" the PA blared, the girl stopped dead in her tracks

"Looks like they found us" Bobby said pulling a device from a pocket on his vest "Josh, is the ship ready"

"Yes, all guns installed, shields have been upgraded" Josh's voice came from the device

"Good, we are returning to the ship" Bobby said into the communicator, then placed it back into his pocket, then walked over to the girl, handed her something then gestured for Emma and Sandy to follow him.

The pirates' cruisers engaged the outer defences while the fighters slipped through to engage the freighters and transports.

"Two torpedoes have struck the station, Bobby, hurry" Anna said urgently

"We're coming, stand by" Bobby replied running behind the girls.

Minute's later "We're aboard" Bobby said, the airlock closed behind him

"Docking clamps released, firing thrusters, we're clear" Josh said

"Shields up, turrets firing" Anna reported.

Bobby, Emma and Sandy felt the docking clamps release with a deep thump, now they felt shudders as the turrets opened fire on the enemy

"Bobby get up here the Jacinta's been hit" Anna yelled, Bobby looked up then ran for the bridge.

"Set course for the Jacinta, stand by to transfer cargo and rescue any survivors" Bobby ordered as the Akira approached the Jacinta, she started dropping her cargo which the Akira tractored inside her shields then transported into her cargo bays.

More missiles stuck the Jacinta as her gunners tried to buy more time for the cargo to be transferred, two more missiles stuck the stern and the Jacinta's guns fell silent, escape pods were launching and their occupants were transported aboard the Akira.

"The Jacinta's reactors are going critical, we have to leave" Anna yelled watching the sensors,

"Seconds or minutes" Bobby asked,

"A minute at most" Anna replied

"Josh, very slow ahead" Bobby said, the Akira crept forward slowly as Bobby, Emma and Sandy desperately tried to get as many people aboard in the time they had left.

"Thirty seconds" Anna reported, Bobby had to make a hard choice soon or they would be killed too,

"Josh, ahead flank speed" Bobby ordered, the ship surged forward away from the Jacinta.

Twenty-five seconds later the stern of the Jacinta exploded, the explosion travelled forward up the spine of the ship incinerating anyone and anything in it path.

Sara, Bobby, Sandy, Emma and Archer watched from a monitor outside the transporter as her ship was vaporised with it some of her crew and friends, tears started running down her face when she felt Bobby's arm around her, she turned and cry into his chest as he held her close

"They died like warriors in battle, they died with honour" he whispered to her,

He hit the comm. "Josh, set course for the Catia system" Bobby said,

"You're not welcome there, remember" Josh replied

"We'll see when we get there" Bobby answered and closed the channel

"Your hoping your helping us will grant you some sort of amnesty?" Archer asked

"Yes, I am" he replied.

Archer, an equine humanoid with chestnut coloured body hair and a silver mane, he wore black pants and a black vest, and he was also one of Sara's best gunners.

The trip to the catia system took four days, Bobby didn't sleep, he spent the nights running his fingers through Sandy's hair 'will they allow us to enter or not' he thought to himself.

A small fleet of freighters had assembled outside catian space awaited the arrival of the Akira, space twisted as she arrived, on the bridge Bobby studied the fleet that awaited them, he wasn't sure what to make of it.

"Akira, this is the catnip; we are here to escort you to kittyhawk station",

"I was under the impression we could not enter catian space" Bobby replied

"We'll be brief" the catnip replied

"Josh, set course for Kittyhawk station" Bobby ordered "But be on alert" the ship docked with the station and began off-loading her cargo.

Sara, Archer, Bobby, Emma and Sandy all stood at the airlock watching Sara's crew and passengers depart and most of the jacinta's cargo had been off-loaded, 2500 units of food and medical supplies had arrived and were being beamed aboard

"Well, thank you for helping us" Sara said

"I'm sorry we could not save everyone" Bobby replied

"Oh I wouldn't worry about-" Archer never finished what he was saying at that moment all hell broke loose.

Four masked persons opened fire at them with blaster rifles, Sara was hit first, twice, once in the side and once in the leg, Archer dived back through the airlock and took cover behind the bulkhead "Josh get us out of here" Bobby yelled into the comm channel

"Can't, the docking clamps wont release, control says our attackers have isolated this section of the station, they cant release us, we have to release the clamps manually" Josh replied

'Great' Bobby thought, the manual releases for the clamps were five metres away on either side of corridor.

Bobby ran back to an arms locker, opened it, pulled some blaster pistols out and ran back to the airlock, he gave one to Emma and tossed another to Sandy "On three" he yelled "One, two, three" all three fired at once forcing their attackers to take cover, Emma and Sandy moved up the corridor firing as they went and took cover in the alcoves that contained the manual releases for the clamps.

At the same time Bobby and Archer raced out and grabbed Sara and pulled her back to the ship, she was still alive. Sandy covered Emma as she pulled the manual release then Emma covered Sandy as she pulled the other one. Bobby was hit while covering them dropping his weapon, Archer scooped up the blaster pistol and fired at a fire sprinkler on the ceiling causing it to explode and sealing the other end of the corridor, Sandy and Emma both ran back to the ship, the airlock shut behind them.

"Josh" Archer said "now" the ship backed up slowly then spun 180 degrees, heading away from the station. Archer carried Sara to the medical and began to treat her wounds; Emma transported the remaining supplies off the station then rushed to catch up.

In medical Archer looked over Sara's injuries, one shot scored her side; another shot burnt a one inch hole in her thigh.

Bobby was also hit in the leg but it didn't seem to bother him too much, Sara cried out as Archer tendered to the wound in her side then put a bandage on it, digging her claws into the sides of the bed, she whimpered as Archer stitched up her leg and bandaged it up.

Archer now turned to Bobby's wound, Bobby drew back his lips exposing his fangs, Archer started stitching up his leg, and Bobby roared as Archer pulled the stiches tight then bandages it up. Josh heard Bobby's roar from the bridge and came back to see if he was alright

"You ok" Josh asked

"I'm fine" Bobby replied, breathing heavily though his fangs.

The ice asteroid belts that orbited the catian suns provided a good hiding place as well as much need water, Bobby was sitting in his quarters with the door open looking out the window at the chunks of ice passing by when Sandy walked in "How's Sara" Sandy asked.

"She's asleep" Bobby said "She's getting better quickly"

Sandy sat down and Bobby sat on the floor in front of her with his head resting on her lap, "And how are you" she said running her finger around the outside of his ear, Bobby tilted his head back and started purring

"I'm getting better too; I didn't think it was going to happen this way".

"You didn't think what was going to happen this way" Sandy asked

"Well, I thought we'd just drop off Sara, her cargo and her remaining crew and then we would leave, now Sara is injured, we still have some the jacinta's cargo left and someone is out to get us" his ears flattened as he replied "This situation is both intriguing and confusing"

Sandy put her hands on his shoulders "I'm sure we'll figure it out" she resumed stroking his ears "It's very beautiful" she said looking out the window

"What, yes it is, seem just yesterday me and Sara were fly through here as fast as our engines could take us then blasting chunks of ice to sell at kittyhawk station" he said looking down at the floor "It was foolish to return".

"You're being human again" a voice said from the open door "You've always told me how so badly you wanted to return here",

"And now that I am here I can't figure out why I want to leave again" he said looking at Sara standing in the doorway "Shouldn't you be in medical" he said,

"Shouldn't you" she replied limping over to them and sat down next to Bobby "I never did fully thank you for rescuing us" Sara said placing her head on his shoulder

"I think you did but I can't take all the credit" Bobby said reaching up and stroking Sandy's cheek, Sandy smiled and blushed

"So what happened with that girl" Sara asked,

"What girl?" Bobby replied,

Sara grabbed his arm "You know which one" she said digging her claws into his arm.

"Her and her friends are heading for the vergesso system in a few days, we'll been heading there too on a cargo run to the mining station," Bobby said "We'll have some passengers to bring back here in a couple of days"

Sandy started running her finger around his ear then around Sara's ear, Sara tilted her head and moaned loudly, Sara eyes shot open, she jumped up "Sorry I..err I...got to" she said then limped quickly from the room leaving Sandy stunned and Bobby with a smile from ear to ear

"What did I do" Sandy asked

"The catian ear is a sensitive spot, more so with catian females, stroking or even gentle blowing in their ears can produce an almost orgasmic sensation, it is a precursor to mate, that's why Sara ran away when you touched her ear, because she thought you wanted to mate with her" Bobby said smiling, Sandy spun around on the chair and put her head on his shoulder and put her feet in the wall under the window

"And if I rub your ears" she asked, Bobby thought for a moment then got up

"The fact is that you are developing feelings for me but I can't love you" he said and left

"Not yet, big boy" Sandy said to herself

Emma was on the bridge when Bobby arrived "Bobby, how are you" she asked,

"Fine, Sandy and Sara might be a different story, they had an almost romantic moment in my quarters" he said

"They had an almost romantic moment, how" she asked

"Sandy started stroking Sara's ears" he replied

"Ah, I see" Emma said nodding

"Can you find and talk to Sara, please" Bobby said with a concerned look

"Ok" Emma said and left the bridge. Josh turned in his seat

"You know Sandy loves you" he said

"I know, I am trying so hard to resist her, but it is difficult" Bobby said

"You will love her deeply, it is inevitable" Josh said turning back around

"I know, I know" Bobby said quietly.

Emma arrived at Sara's room and knocked, the door moved under her knocking, she pushed it open a little "Sara, its Emma, may I come in" she called out, she heard a series of whimpers, she pushed the door open and walked in, the room was dark.

"Sara" she called out again, another series of whimpers close-by revealed Sara lying curled up at the foot of her bed, the diffused light of the ice outside illuminating her fur and her hand between her legs "Sara" Emma said quietly suddenly Sara leapt at her, knocking her the floor, Emma was pinned under Sara's weight.
