He stared deep into the fire, as he sat on the recliner, holding a glass loosely by the top of the rim. The lights where off in this, his living room, the only illumination coming from the orange and yellow flames of the fire, that was banked in the fireplace. The fire flickered casting long shadows against the walls and on him. As he sat, they are staring distantly, what would be called the thousand-yard stare by some. Next to, him stood a half empty bottle of Glennfiddich Scotch, a good portion knocked off in this nights sitting.
'She was Pregnant, and by him... ' His mind raced, not really settling on a chosen course, as it replayed this evening events to him, in crystal clarity. Her telling him what had happened, and why she was sick in the mornings. Then his reply, which sounded so un-like him at all, that is even surprised him in hindsight.
"So what are plans about it?" he asked, straight faced and matter of factly.
"What are my plans about it?" came her response. "WHAT... MY... PLANS... ARE... ABOUT... IT?" She shouted at him, as she closed the distance punctuating the last with her finger in his chest. Pain and hurt radiating in her eyes as she pounded on his chest with her finger. "You arrogant, self centered, conceited ass hole! What about you, what are you going to do about it?" she said in quite anger.
"Honestly... You want to now, what I think I should do about this. How about I don't have fucking clue one! For starters" He said with venom in his voice. "At this point I really wish it had not happened."
As soon as he said it, he wanted to take it back. "Dee... I'm...."
"NO... I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR IT, YOU ARROGANT BASTARD. YOU SELF-RIGHTOUS ASSHOLE. I GAVE MY SELF TO YOU FREELY, I ALLOWED MYSELF TO FEEL SOMETHING FOR YOU, AND YOU WISHED IT DID NOT HAPPEN." She started to walk past him, as she shouted more obscenities, she was stopped when he reached out and grabbed her arm. Michael got ready to ask for her forgiveness. When she whirled around from her left to right, bringing her left arm around, catching him upside the jaw.
"LET GO OF ME." She shouted. As he collapsed to the ground, after being hit, She stalked off to her room.
He lay there stunned, shocked and incensed. "Who the hell does she think she is? Where in the name of all that is Holy does she get off? Accusing me!" he thought, as his left hand rubbed his jaw, feeling wetness he noticed some blood form where she had hit him, and had drawn blood with her claws.
" Damn... It... Ow!"
"Son of a... That hurt." He got up slowly and made his way to the bathroom. He looked himself over in the mirror, looking at the small lines of blood that now marked the left side of his face.
As he looked, he saw her face again in the mirror of his mind, the hurt that flashed at his statement that he wished that night had never happened.
"Shit..." he cursed silently, "That was about the stupidest thing you could have done or said, you'll be damn lucky if she doesn't skin you alive." He walked out of the bathroom, leaving his face untended, and went straight to the bar, where he pulled out the bottle of Glennfiddich and a single glass. He poured the first one, and bolted it down quickly, as he felt it burn going down to his stomach. He stared out the window watching the darkening sky to the North as the stars started to shine down on the mountains. He watched the moon, barely a sliver of what it was from that night. Michael hung his head down as he moved back to the recliner; he carried the bottle by its neck, as he poured another glass.
That was about two and half hours, no now three hours. As he stared up at the clock on the wall, barely making out the hands on the clock as they moved, in the flickering light of the fire.
"So now what?" he asked aloud.
"The answer is simple stupid," a voice replied in his mind.
"Really, if it is so simple, why can I not see it."?
"Because you would rather drink yourself in to insensibility instead of accepting what has occurred and proceeding from there." Replied the calm voice.
"Okay... care to lay it out for me, because I am not really in the mood right now." He growled beneath his breath.
"Na! I think you need to stew some more; you do not have the chops for it. Yet. Just know this, it is your favorite topic to harp on about males in your society." With that, his mind quieted.
Michael closed his eyes briefly, my favorite subject...
Dee lay in her bed, crying lightly into the pillows. Wondering how her life had become so fucked up, in so short a time. How she could have given of herself finally and have it thrown back in her face, granted she had, had those type of night before, where she thought someone loved her and was in love with her because it was that passionate. However, in the morning light and even a few days, later usually she and they cooled things off, and it was like having friends with "bennies."
"What went wrong?" she thought to herself weakly. "I mean I truly, thought he was different. He's nice, considerate and affectionate; and of course what she learned the night of, his hands caressing her body, lightly stroking her and bringing her to a climax with a simple stroke."
She thought of what she should do now, moving out came to mind, but to where and with what money, she had not saved up enough money to make her move out as of yet.
"Dammit, why" she asked herself mentally as she cried herself to sleep.
***************************************************************************************************************
His eyes flew open just as quickly, "HOLY FUCK! How could I have been so dumb! "
"I've must have been asleep mentally, ah shit... I need to make it right, but how..."
Mike got up slowly and started to walk around a little, stumble was more like it, but now his mind was flicking off thoughts rapid fire like. He finally stopped his pacing and turn rapidly, nearly falling down as he did so. He straightened himself up and then slowly walked from the Living room, down the hall to her room. The firelight seemed to make the hallway stretch out longer then it was or maybe it was the alcohol in his blood. Nevertheless, he continued to walk to her door, where he stopped and brought his furry knuckle up to it to knock, and hesitated. "What if she did not want to speak to him? What if she wanted to yell at him again and not listen? What if, What if?" A thousand what ifs rolled through his mind, almost making him forget the damn thing, and he nearly did, with a low audible growl he drove away the thoughts and knocked on the door.
"Hey Dee, I want to talk, well fuck talk, I need to speak with you, can I come in."
She woke slowly to the sound of a knock on her door.
"Hey Dee, I want to talk, well fuck talk, I need to speak with you, can I come in." she heard him through the door.
"Dee, please... I know I am probably the last person in the world you wish to speak with right now, but I need to apologize for what I have said and how I have been acting lately, and it is easier to do this face to face instead of to this door." He waited about another minute, and was getting ready to leave, when the door opened just a crack.
"What do you mean? Mike"
" What I mean is this, I am sorry I have been acting like a puts, Jerk bastard what ever you care to call me, since our night together. I guess it is no surprise. How I have felt. However, I did not know how to handle what we did? And now you tell me you are pregnant with our cub." He said somewhat rapidly as his words where slurred by the alcohol. " I want to apologize, for it all, and also tell you that... Yes, you do mean a lot to me, and I wish you to stay with me, I wish for you to continue to be a mother to our cub."
"Your Drunk." She stated. She had watched him stand there in the hall, partly leaning against the wall, as he spoke, she really had no idea what had made her decide to move from her bed to answer the door and talk to him, but she did. She watched his eyes, those brown eyes as he spoke.
He looked at her a little shocked and dismayed, "Yes, I am" he replied.
"Michael, how can I be sure that you will not go back to doing the same old thing again!" she asked.
" I may be drunk or at least pleasantly buzzed right now, Dee, but I cannot be sure of anything, all I can offer at this point is honesty, and honestly I want you in my life, I want to be a part of what we have made, and I mean more then the cub, I mean what we have started."
She stood there, only a foot or so away, from Michael, the aroma, his perfume for the night of alcohol tickling her nose, irritating it like an allergy. She stood there, looking at him, the look of uncertainly and confusion being the dominant trait in her eyes at that moment. "Well?" Michael interrupted the silence that seemed to drag on forever but was only a few second in reality.
" I want that too, but I cannot handle the ups and downs the emotional roller coaster. I need to count on you, know more then ever. I need you to be here for me, I need to know that tomorrow when we wake up, I can count on you to be supportive of me, for me and with me." She stated frankly to him.
"Dee, I can be, and will be. Please all I ask for is a chance to prove it. I will not ask you to leave from this place, unless you want to, know this here and now. I want this, please." He asked nearly falling over and into the door before catching himself. She pulled back a little, but stopped, she noticed his head hanging, and she heard something, he was crying, softly...
"Please ... please don't close me out." He said, as he proceeded to topple forward.
She moved quickly forward catching him, his weight nearly pulling her down, as his body collapsed.
"Great, just fucking great..." She breathed heavily as she shifted his dead weight to get it more evenly set, and then pulled him to her bed, where she laid him out, pulling off his shoes and socks, and unbuttoning his shirt.
When that was done, she glanced back down at her canine lover and father of her child as he snored away in slumber. "Sleep well my soused Prince." She said quietly to him, as she snuggled her self next to him, and promptly went to sleep.
