Brian's Tale - Chapter 6: Honing One's Skills
Brian's Tale
Chapter 6: Honing One's Skills
Brian sat in his dream-hill land, waiting for something to happen. Although he had nothing to do, he could still take in the beauty of this little world. The sky was a nice clear blue, the grass fresh with dew. The tree's cold roots seemed almost real, the tiny bugs crawling up and down. It was... nice. Relaxing, in it's own way. It was just so calming and-
"HEY BRIAN!" A tiny, but somehow loud voice yelled. Brian calmly looked to his left, finding himself face to face with a familiar Mew.
"Oh, hey Fate." Brian said as she giggled and floated in front of him, swishing slightly from side to side. "What?" He asked as she giggled more. "You."
"Me?"
"Ya, you."
"Why am i so funny?"
"You're so different then you are when you're in here"
"You mean you've seen me outside of this dream-place?"
"Of course i have! You think i wouldn't keep a close eye on a guy who has two brains and can bend spoons with his mind?"
"Oh ya, i forgot about these 'supposed' powers you say i have. When am i going to be able to use them?"
"That's the reason i'm here! Brian D. Scott, i'm going to teach you how be... a psychic!"
"Really?"
"But of course! If you don't learn how to use it, your Psychic energy will drive you crazy... and i think your crazy enough."
"I'll go... crazy?"
"Yes, i know from experience. I used to have an old friend who almost died, and i used my psychic powers - much like yours - and i never taught him his powers, and now... well anyway, i want to teach you your powers, right here, right now."
"But won't i need to learn them in the real world?"
"Well, after this, you'll know what to do, you body is able, but you need to learn how. So, get up" Fate said before erupting into a flash of white light, revealing fate's human form. She quickly grasped Brian's arm and pulled him up and leading him a little way from the tree.
"So... what do we do now?"
"Just shut up and stand there." She said as she turned her back from him. After a few moments, she returned with an object, a glass cup.
"A glass cup-" He stopped short as he noticed he wasn't in the hillside, now being in a quaint kitchen-style room, the center holding a large, ellipse shaped table. A small portion of the kitchen viewable threw a little window way, the opening next to a large bookcase filled with books which he could make out as mostly fiction books about pokemon habits, and a few fine-china plates in presentable form. Other things of notice were a large painting of two adults - a mother and a father and a child and a mew - most likely Fate.
"Where are we?"
"A memory." She stated, her usual playful voice now reduced to a depressing tone.
"Now... let's... let's start training, okay?" It almost seemed like she was going to sob, so Brian just gave a nod and waited for instructions. "Sit." She stated - not with anger, but more with.. a plea. He did as he was told, taking up a wooden chair - most likely Cheri wood - and sitting down
"Let's begin." She said as she set down the glass bottle and just stared at him, waiting for him to do something.
"...What?"
"Oh, sorry. Okay, so i want you to focus on the bottle, nothing but the bottle. If you don't focus on it, nothing will happen."
"What is going to happen-"
"Hush. Just focus."
Brian then looked the the bottle, thinking of nothing but it. He waited for something to happen, this is so boring, he wished he had Jenna here, then at least-
"Brian, you have to stop thinking about your little girlfriend, you need to focus"
"She's not my-"
"F-O-C-U-S!" He turned his attention to the bottle, this time focusing on it... even more! He thought of nothing, keeping the thoughts of Jenna and everything else in the back of his mind and just focused until...
SMASH!
Brian saw that glass bottle suddenly explode into a hailstorms of broken glass. The last thing he saw was the death-shards coming towards him, his fear getting the best of him as he closed his eyes, awaiting the blow...
"Uh... you can open your eyes now..."
he opened his eyes, and found that the shards were held in place, surronded by a strange, light blue sphere. "Don't worry, i got it" Fate said as the blue sphere suddenly stopped and the glass simply fell onto the table, almost as if it wasn't about to painfully puncture Brian's throat. "Even if you did get hit by those glass shards, you wouldn't have died - it would've painful, yes - mainly because your mind knew it would be painful in real life, if you didn't know what those were you wouldn't feel anything"
"...Cool. Now, what the helk did i do to make THAT happen?"
"That's easy to explain: your focus was so intense... it sort of 'crushed' the bottle"
"Oh... Cool."
"Isn't it? Okay, let's start another test." She said, making another glass bottle appear in her hand and setting it on the table. "Now what?"
"Well, if you would stopped talking, i might be able to teach my other students who actually WANT to learn"
"I'm your only student"
"Hush" She said, putting her tiny human fingers up to his lips "Now, what i want to teach you is... telekinesis."
"Wasn't that last thing telekinesis?"
"No... Well.. kind of, it's hard to tell... Let's just say this is TRUE telekinesis. Now, i want you to focus on the bottle." Brian began to put just as much focus as before, and was about to explode it before...
"Brian!" He was soon snapped out of his trance and looked at Fate, wondering why she asked him to stop. "Let. me. finish. Okay, so i want you to sort of... push it, wish your mind."
"Focusing is do-able, but pushing it..."
"If it helps, put your arms out like this" she said, putting her arms out infront of her, her palms fowards and fingers uncurled.
"Okay... okay.... i can do this" he muttered to himself as he focused on pushing the bottle. He heard Fate saying encouraging words 'just try to move it a little' He kept focusing until... "Brian, look!" He opened his eyes and saw the bottle, in pieces, on the ground
"What?"
"You moved the bottle! I was watching you, waiting for you to fail so i could give you some pointers and maybe laugh at you a little, until... i saw the thing fly towards the wall and... this!"
"So i can move bottles?"
"More than that! Soon, you'll be able to pick up things on a whim!"
"Really?"
"Totally, oh, this will be just like teaching-" Fate suddenly stopped, her giddy persona becoming quiet. She frowned and just looked off. She didn't look like she was going to cry, just... an emotionless state.
"Who?"
"I gotta go." Then, the Mew-girl suddenly disappeared in a blaze of light, leaving suddenly.
"I wonder what that was about..." Brian said as the room around him began to fade into Brian's Dream-Land. Brian shuffled over to the tree, wondering what that was about before laying against the tree, alone with his thoughts.
