From Nameless (unfinished)
So this is something I have been working on and off again for some time now. Don't know if I'll ever get around to finishing it, but I figured it was best to post it than to just let it fade away. It has a very innocent tone which I find difficult to write, but it was still fun while I was doing it.
It's only a draft and only half finished, at best. But enjoy what's here at the very least.

She was the first one he had ever caught. This steel-type Pokémon with blue fur and long, pointed ears who was curled up on his bed sleeping soundly next to him. She was the first one who he ever had any real connection with, which is probably how they ended up here; sleeping in an empty house together, her curled up tightly against his chest while he lay naked under the covers.
The moonlight's normally bright glow seemed to have lessened to a gentle dimness to let her sleep while he held his gaze upon her soft silhouette. The previously intense heat of the room had cooled with the help of the open window, but the smell of fresh mating was still heavy on the air and strong in his mind. He closed his eyes and tried to sleep, but images flowed in and out of his head. Once more, he looked to her, recalling everything that they had been through which had led to this night.
The beginning...
He had met her when she was wild and he was still a boy then in his teens. Their meeting was, more or less, as simple as any other encounter between a human and wild Pokémon would've been. He was far from a trainer; having no experience battling outside of relatives when he was younger with the Pokémon his family owned. Never learning the fear he should've had around untamed Pokémon. She had snuck into town that night as a curious and hungry Lucario, going from house to house and through their gardens or trash bins, scavenging for what little food she could get.
There were few shadows to hide her inexperience in his yard. Her stomach getting the better of her, and in a fog of hunger she ran across the yard and began to rummage loudly through the garden; her tiny feet kicking up the dirt, knocking over the tools and trashcan along the way. She sat at a random bush and pulled the berries from it, not caring if they were sour or too ripe; she ate them all.
Behind her, the door squeaked and he came outside. Rubbing his eyes from being woken during a pleasant dream, and there he saw her. Her petite, little body, sitting in the middle of the dirt with a handful of berries, her paw was only a blur while she fed herself, completely ignorant to the human standing not too far behind her. He stepped from the worn wooden steps of this porch toward her, his feet leaving only light prints in the cool dirt and grass, so soft that she didn't hear. Still, he watched her as she picked more from the plant.
He stopped within arm's reach of the Lucario, no fear in his young face. Only a genuine curiosity for what a Lucario was doing so far from the wilderness. He opened his mouth to speak, yet only a quiet squeak came from him and was all but lost to the wind rustling through the trees. The young man covered his eyes as the dust picked up from the garden until it settled once more. When he opened them, the Lucario had stood and was facing him; paws ready to fight yet her eyes were full of fear and doubt.
She took a step back.
He stood still.
But then, there was a moment between the two. He smiled and turned to the bush, picked a few of the best and held them out to her. She stayed where she was, a kind of determination in her stance. Then an odd rumbling sounded out and they both knew where it came from. Her cheeks blushed furiously and she dropped her stance, her paws covering her belly as if begging it to be quiet. He giggled and held his arms out further.
"For you," he finally spoke. His voice was high for his age; weak and cracking like it had been sifted through gravel, but in his tone there was tender warmth. She looked back up to him. The young teen who was so pale that that his skin looked almost ghost-like in the moons shine. His bare feet in the dirt and his messy bed-hair, long pajama's that dragged behind him with the dirt stains at the end, making him look like a toddler who put on a shirt of his fathers.
Her stomach rumbled again. Despite what she had eaten, she was still hungry. It had been far too long since she had more than scraps, and the few berries that the boy could hold in his hands looked like a feast to her.
She took a step forward, eyeing the teen until she reached out and in a flash, took the berries from him then retreated to a safe distance. His weak voice cracked while he giggled, although it could barely be heard. He turned back to the plant and picked a few more, eating a couple of them himself then moving back towards the Pokémon who sat near the edge of the garden.
Silently, she chewed the last of her meal while watching the young human approach. She slid back when he sat down across from her and put a rather large pile of the berries between them then sitting contently with a smile. She was new to this kind of treatment, and her hesitation showed. Still, she reached for another handful and ate them gladly.
A light illuminated the door behind the teen and a worried voice called out for him. He quickly stood and spun towards the house, the light slowly becoming blocked out by the figure approaching the door. He looked back to the Lucario, but she had left; scared away by the new human that stood firmly at the doorway, waiting for the young man to come inside.
The teen slouched and looked down to see the pile of berries had barely been touched. Again, the stern voiced called to him and he replied. But, before returning, he picked up what was left of the food and held them in his small hands then returned to the warmth of his home where the voice of the other human scolded him.
Once the voices had faded and the lights all turned out, the small Lucario crept out from the shadows of the street, looking around for the food that she had shared with the human but unable to find it. She was sated, though, and the hunger wasn't as bad as it was before. She turned away from the garden, ready to go back to the wilderness alone.
"Hey!" the boy quietly called out with mild amusement, watching the Pokémon spin around looking for him. Finally, she looked up at him sitting at his window and took a step back as he waved. He tossed a small object towards her, being careful to throw it short so it wouldn't hit her. The small object burst open and juice spilled from the broken berry. She sniffed the air and again her mouth watered and her stomach growled.
She looked from the ruined food up to the boy and he held out his hands again, showing their shared meal, some spilling over the edges of his hands and rolling off the roof to the ground below. Urged on by her stomach she leapt, with some difficulty, up to his window on the second floor, but didn't come any farther than the edge of the overhang. The boys smile wavered somewhat, but held a familiar sensation to the lone Lucario. It seemed that he expected this though, and pulled out a small bag and put the berries inside and set it on his windowsill.
"I'll have more tomorrow, if you'd like," the weakness of the teens voice was now accented with a sleepy exhaustion. His smile returned to its previous strength. Unsure, but hoping that she was able to understand, "But I'll leave them up here, okay?"
They sat in silence, just looking at each other. The Pokémon was unsure to think of this tiny human who was giving her a smile that bordered on familiar. But soon, the young man waved goodbye to her and closed his window. She crept up to the glass and peered inside, seeing a room with only a single bed and white walls, and on the bed was the young man with messy hair and pale skin who rested alone in the room.
She tried to spot more to the room than just the lone bed, but found nothing. Her belly was almost full though, and it groaned to remind her of the food just inches away from her. After snatching the bag, she leapt from the overhang and back into the night.
Inside of the house, the boy chuckled after watching the curious Pokémon disappear from his window through his lidded eyes. He then pulled the blankets over him and rested, giving into a loud coughing fit before sleep finally took him.
He didn't see the petite Lucario the next night however, or the night after. Both nights, he stayed up late and looked out the window for any shadows that may have been her and until sleep eventually called to him. On both nights he left the bag on his window, and both mornings he found the bags untouched.
On the third day, he stared out of his window, watching the garden in the sun. His house was empty on this day, but he had to stay home and inside. He longed to go out during the day and feel the warm touch of the sun like he once did, but he wasn't allowed to. So, he settled for simply watching nature grow around him. The garden had been picked clean and the various berries and vegetables were now chilled in the fridge. He gave a melancholy sigh, feeling that he would never see her again.
The rest of the day came and went with the sun setting in the west as it always had. He rested his head against the window as he felt the fingers of sleep touch his eyes and make them heavy. His eyes shut for only a moment with just the garden in his view. Upon opening them again, the Lucario sat where she had been on the overhang three nights before, startling him awake and making him slip from his thin resting spot against the window.
She surprised him by approaching him this time, though still with caution and stopped at the window. Rubbing his head, he looked to the Pokémon and smiled like the night they met. He stood up and spoke in his normal weak voice.
"Hey there!" he said as he quietly opened the window, keeping his eyes on her as she curiously looked around the window frame. He chuckled lightly and asked, "You hungry?"
She looked at him, eyeing him from head to toe and back again with her deep crimson eyes and began to sniff the air. He stepped away from the window, trying to invite her in without scaring her.
"I'll go get you something," He said and turned to the doorway, looking back as he shut his door silently. His smile broadened when he saw her ease herself into his room.
It would've seemed like he didn't care if he got caught as he rushed to the kitchen. With and extra skip to his step, he practically jumped down to the kitchen and began digging through the fridge, piling as much as he could get onto the plate. He just smiled, more than willing to feed the young Pokémon. More than anything, he was just grateful for the companionship.
The floors were very sturdy considering the age of the house. Not a single step creaked as he carried the plate up to his room. With some difficulty, he managed to open the door with one hand while balancing the plate with the other. The curious Lucario was hardly paying any attention to him. Instead, she was examining his bed. She had crawled under his mattress and was trying to understand the new and strange object from every angle.
Even though he was excited, he managed to shut the door with only the tiniest of clicks, but it was loud enough to alert the poor Lucario, startling her enough to hit her head on the bottom of his bed on her way out from under it. He held back a laugh and set the plate down on his bed then circled around it to check on her.
She whimpered and held back a yelp, rubbing her paws over her head furiously, trying to dull the pain. The touch of the small human is what snapped her out of it. She jumped back to the window, growling at him and ready to fight. He just sat where he was; those pajamas that covered his entire body made him look even younger when he sat and she was no longer able to see his feet. For the first time, she saw his face change and the smile fade.
He stood and turned to his bed, sitting on it and held the plate up as an apology, offering her the food. She stepped closer, seeing the berries they shared as well as other edibles that she didn't recognize. As if forgetting about her instincts, she almost ran back over to the bed, picking out the berries she had the few nights before and eating them happily on his bed.
The bed sank on one side as the human sat down as well, picking a few things that she didn't take and eating them. Lucario watched as he ate those unfamiliar items then tried one herself. The teen watched with fascination as the Pokémon's eyes went wide and she coughed it out, obviously displeased with the taste of the small green item.
"Sorry about that," he grinned, "I don't like broccoli either, but my mom says it's good for me to grow up to be strong."
The Lucario continued looking around the room, fascinated with how it looked and smelled, having never seen the inside of a human dwelling before. She wondered if all rooms were this bare. Once her meal was finished and only the unsavory foods had been left on the plate, the Lucario girl slumped back against the pillows but sat upright quickly.
Intrigued by the softness of it, she held it in her arms and gave it a squeeze. For the first time, he saw her smile. The cheeks of her muzzle lifting and curling while she gave it another tight hug, watching it deflate in her arms then puff out again when she let it go. He laughed and watched her throw it off of the bed and jump on it. Up and down, up and down. She giggled herself, enjoying this new toy immensely. Watching it flatten under her weight then restore itself was amazing to her.
"Want to play?" His voice brought her back and she stepped away from his pillow, eyeing him with uncertainty but didn't stray too far. He set the plate on the ground and stood on his bed, bouncing only slightly using his toes and heels to lift him. Lucario stepped up to the mattress again, putting her paw on it and pressing down on it a few times.
The teen held out his hand to her, inviting her back up but she just looked quizzically up at him. Ignoring his hand, she climbed up and stood, trying to keep her balance while the human bounced next to her. He stopped and waited with a smile for her while she looked down at her unsteady legs, trying to get a good footing on the new ground.
Once she did, she stared at the boy, asking for instructions with only a look. He bent his legs and jumped an inch. She looked down at her unsure legs and did her best to mimic him; bending her legs and pushing up. The young Pokémon went higher than he did and she looked back to him, smiling proudly. Again he jumped, going higher than her, and then she outdid him. The two jumping up and down, higher and higher, trying to out-jump the other until they were both bouncing high into the air on his large bed. The springs easily holding their weight; there was no crying from the springs or shifting from the bedpost. They were just having fun.
As a human, of course he tired first. Falling on his butt and breathing heavily while the hyper Lucario continued jumping. With the new rush she was feeling, she stopped next to him and wrapped a paw under his arm, giggling while trying to lift him again so continue their fun. She quickly realized what she was doing and backed away, the smile disappeared from her face. Sitting down behind him, she stared at the floor.
He had been surprised; she was so skittish a few nights ago and wouldn't even let him come close to her. Now, she was sitting in his room behind him. Once he caught his breath, he turned to her; reaching a hand out to continue their game if she was willing. A burn began in his lungs and worked through his chest, upwards and out his mouth. The human began to cough violently, curling over with his face in the sheets, making his voice even more rasped than it was before.
Scared, she fell off of the bed and flipped around, her back to the wall while the young man stayed where he was. His breaths came in shallow gasps and the raspy coughs seemed to stop, or the noise did at least, turning into wheezy throat clearing. He stayed there for minutes while the Lucario girl did nothing, unsure of what to do while she watched him gasp and wheeze. Then, just as suddenly as it began, it stopped.
He sat back up, still short of breath but the pleasant smile that she knew him for was back.
"Sorry about that," his voice was worse than normal. He pointed to himself, noting her frightened posture against the wall, "Sick."
Slowly, she moved away from the wall and back towards him, stopping when he stood himself. He motioned for her to follow him, and she did; curiosity pushing her after him to a pair of doors that had gone unnoticed until now, standing still a few paces away while he opened it and rummaged through the closet.
She noted that the closet's contents were a vast contrast to the rest of the room. Where the room was bare and a sterile white, the closet held a multitude of colors in his clothes which had been tightly crammed in. She stepped to the side of him and began examining everything inside; the different patterns on the clothes and their different fabrics, the strange metallic objects they were hung upon as well as other awkward looking objects with unknown functions in a box at the bottom.
Then he stood and held something out to her, something that scared her and made her turn to try and run for the window. He grabbed her wrist and pleaded with her to wait for only a moment. She didn't understand him, but his tone was able to read. His loneliness accentuated the words and desperation for her to stay held her still. She turned back to him, shivering and anxious. Her wrist slid free of his grasp and he held the small object out to her.
"It's not what it looks like," in his hand was a pokéball, smaller than normal, but she recognized it regardless and backed closer to the window. He turned his hand and let it slip from his palm, her eyes not leaving it. But it surprised her; the ball hit the ground then bounced back up and into the boy's hand. There was no damage to it, and then he did it again.
"I don't know if you can understand me, but I want to let you borrow this, but only until the next time we meet. Okay?" He held the ball out to her again; still she was wary of it. She leaned over and sniffed it and noted that it didn't smell like the other ones she had seen. Many other trainers had attempted to battle and capture her, and although she rarely fought back, she was never caught. On one occasion, she returned long after the young lady who had tried to capture her had gone and found the thrown pokéball that had tried to contain her. She recognized it as the same ball that had caught a few other wild Pokémon while she wandered.
But what the human held in his hand was not that same thing. Yes, it was smaller, but the female trainer's ball didn't bounce, not like this, and the smell was so much different. She took it from him, holding it in both of her paws. It slipped, entirely on accident and the her expression showed her worry that it would get away as it bounced at odd angles around the room, her chasing it the whole time before finally retrieving it. She held it much more firmly; making sure it wouldn't bounce away this time and returned to the window, watching the young human trying to catch his breath from laughing at her humorous chase.
He held the window open for her and her eyes suddenly felt heavy. She rubbed her eyes and hopped out of the window with the ball in her hands, sitting on his window for a moment, saying goodbye before jumping off and into the night with a full belly and a new toy. He waved farewell to her as the shadows took her in once more into the night.
The days came and went again, just as they had before until the young Lucario returned. While the days past, she always tried to sneak closer to the young man's house, but watching from the trees of the forest on the outskirts of town, she noticed that no Pokémon went without a human next to them. Though she didn't know why, she knew better than to expose herself and do something out of the ordinary.
On this day, however, she wasn't discouraged. She ran through the town, being careful to take only alleys and hiding when necessary. In her mouth was the ball that had been lent to her which was now covered in scratches and bite marks, having enjoyed the toy very much. It also reminded her of the boy who was willing to play with her for the first time in her short life which made her rush to see him again, hoping they could play with it together.
Not once was she spotted, and with that thought, an overwhelming sense of pride struck her and she marched happily through his back yard next to the garden and leapt up to his window with ease; she had become much stronger thanks to the boy feeding her.
She approached the window, taking the ball from her maw before kneeling next to the window. Only a quick glance was all she got at first before slipping back to hide. Inside his room were three others; two were hiding in the corner where he once disappeared through and brought back all of the food and the third was dressed completely in white and was sitting on the bed with the young man. This man had his arm wrapped around the boy who was coughing again, the way she remembered him last time; huddled over, gasping for breath while his lungs cleared.
Her crimson eyes peeked in at the corner of the window, watching the four humans interact in such an unusual way. All of their attention was on the smallest human; the young man she knew. The man dressed in white held a bowl under his chin as he continued gasping and choking for air. He coughed up something dark, but she knew what it was. The young human was coughing up blood.
Lucario's ears lowered, trying to remember the odd sound the human made when he pointed to himself. Closing her eyes, she focused as hard as she could, seeing him in her mind, making the same motions with his body and mouth.
"Sick," he had said, and although she didn't know what it meant then, she did now.
She dropped from the roof, landing on her feet and hid in the bushes next to the garden as she had the first night. Hours past, the man in white left and the sun eventually set. While she waited, she rolled the ball back and forth, trying to keep her mind occupied while the house stayed busy. Once the lights went out, she climbed up to the window again.
The young human lay in bed, a cloth next to his bed which was stained red and dried with his blood. Still, in his condition he managed to get a bag of their berries and leave them on the windowsill for her. She gave a sorrow filled whimper and touched the glass, hoping it would open. It did, and thankfully it was quiet. The Pokémon had no intention of waking him now, but she felt a need to make sure he was alright.
Her footpads made her gentle steps all the more quiet. She walked up to his sleeping form, his lungs tired and whistling from whatever was hurting the young boy. Stopping next to him, she looked down on his fragile body and placed the ball next to him. Summoning up her courage, she placed her paw on his cheek, willingly and knowingly touching him for the first time. His skin was cold and clammy under her pads, and his cold sweat made her recoil.
A gasp and a stumble later, she was back at the window and ready to leave. Looking back however, she felt a hesitation. She didn't want to go, not while he was still like this, but this was no place for her here and nothing she could do to help. Closing her eyes, she took the food that the kind young man had left her and jumped into the night, leaving the window open so that the summer air could warm the poor boy.
She returned during the night a week later, scared of what might have happened to the young man, but it was a date that she made and planned to keep. Dodging through shadows and alleys, past fences and light posts until she eventually arrived that the familiar garden. Ignoring the bushes, garden utensils and any other objects in the yard, she jumped with ease up to his window and looked in, not caring if there were others this time.
The berries hadn't been left out this time, and the room was empty. She pushed on the window but it wouldn't budge. Again, she scanned the room for the boy either under his covers or the closet. Perhaps a light under the door he had vanished through when they jumped upon his sleeping pad.
There was nothing.
She tapped her paws on the glass, trying to get the attention of someone, but no movement came. Her belly tightened at the thought of what must have happened. She sat on the overhang, her head against the window and closed her eyes. Her strength had left her; she didn't want to move, not yet. The cool glass went through her fur while she rested and the shingles were more than enough to keep her from rolling off the edge. She just couldn't move while she felt this alone again.
Then a tapping came from the other side of the window. She didn't want to move her heavy body, but it continued. Her head turned to the noise and she opened her eyes. There was the boy, giving her a confused look and in his hand was a bag of their berries. Her eyes lit up and shined in the night. Practically jumping to her feet, she pressed against the glass, her tail wagging without her consent and she smiled.
With her weight against the window, he had to hurry before it cracked. Unlocking it, she practically fell into the room. Luckily for her, he broke her fall, barely managing to catch her in his arms, dropping the berries to the floor where they scattered about. She wrapped her arms around his neck and nuzzling against his cheek, it still did nothing to ease the confusion he felt. The previously very shy and introverted Lucario's affection stunned him to stand still for a moment before coming to his senses.
He gave his first real smile for the first time in a week, but before he could wrap his arms around her, she recoiled. Looking down at the floor, she blushed brightly and walked farther into his room; sitting on his bed, her tail still giving an elated wag every now and again. He sat next to her after collecting the berries from the floor, giving her the usual amount of space they've become accustomed to. The berries rolled around in his fingers within the bag while their awkward silence held.
"I'm getting better!" the silence finally broke with the young man looking to her, smiling broadly at the news. "Not much, but it's still something."
None of the words were understood by the young Lucario, but she did notice that the rasp of his voice had lessened somewhat and his skin held a bit more color to them, life was returning to this poor boy! She smiled and reached for the bag of berries while her belly gave her a demanding grumble, gladly sharing the small amount with her friend.
Slumber eventually called to them both and the human helped the Lucario through his window and waved goodnight before crawling back into his own bed to join the rest in Dreamland. The day came and the day went and his routine continued; spending the day indoors and watching the world go by then hoping for his friend to come that night.
When the moon shined at its highest peak, and the young human was getting ready to call it a night, she did come. Her paws softly rapping against the window panes, asking for permission to be let in, and he was more than happy to open up and welcome her. She hopped inside but instead of going to the bed to rest from her venture from the woods, she turned and held out her paw to him.
In her paw were a few other berries that she, herself, had brought to share. A few were slightly squished and because she couldn't cup her paw, there were only four or five of them. He looked from her paw, back up to her. Her expression was worrisome, unsure if the boy would accept her offer of apology for not returning for so many days, but also to repay him for feeding her as well. He simply grinned wide and took a couple of them from her and pulled her to his bed to continue their own routine of food and play before she had to leave.
After that, she returned every night. The two would take turns bringing their dinner and then they'd dig through the teen's toy chest and enjoy the night to the fullest. He showed her how each one of his toys worked; from the ones that changed into something else to simple puzzles. Every night he held a bit more vitality than the previous, and she was becoming more trusting. On a random impulse one night, he hugged her when she came. She didn't recoil or growl. She didn't try to force him away, either; just hugged back.
Their nights turned into weeks, and every night she'd show and they'd greet each other with a hug, but to her their play always seemed so short before their own weariness caught up and forced her to depart for sleep. She was quick enough to avoid being seen again, following the path she had taken on her previous trip into town during the day. The trip was so quick this time; she almost thought she had arrived at the wrong human dwelling as she ran through the yard. This time, she didn't get too far.
A familiar voice called to her from off to the side of the dwelling near the bushes. Even though she recognized it, she didn't expect it and leapt up out of reach to the overhang to hide. Again the voice called and she peeked over. The young man was looking up to her, unsure of what to say. Before he could react, she jumped down on top of him. Her excitement was obvious and the human could only laugh as she blushed and climbed off of him, helping him to his feet.
"Guess you didn't expect to see me out here anytime soon, huh?" he laughed and dusted himself off.
