Lost Soldier: 9, New Life
#9 of Lost Soldier -Book 1- Complete
The final chapter in this section of the story. The story is not done!
I know it has been some time since I last posted a following chapter to any of my stories. I had to go back and read through Lost Solider to retrace my own thoughts and ideas but here it is. Now, if this story lacks the other stories passion I'm sorry, it might feel a bit jagged around the edges as I'm just getting back into writing.
If you notice any typos or errors tell me! I'll fix them, I'm proof reading everything myself so I might miss some things, make sure you tell me.
As always comment and rate. Let me know what you all think.
Slowly Mike would pry his eyes open, that 'party' from the night before had really taken a toll on him, he couldn't remember the last time he had stayed up so late just having a good time; without remembering his team that is. With his eyes now open he would behold a familiar sight of the cave ceiling that had become somewhat of a home away from home kind of place at this stage, he wasn't sure how he had ended up back in the cave but as he moved to push himself up he soon found a weight holding him down.
Tilting his head to peer down he would see Wind and not Koro as he had expected, the large Dire Wolf seemed to be nowhere to be found at this time and Wind had seemed to of taken the shift in using him as a pillow. The thought of a time stamp crossed his mind as a small internal joke before he let his head fall back down to the make shift bed. He turned his gaze out the mouth of the cave, day light. Today would be the last day that he would be looking at the sun shine as a human; the thought unnerved him in such a way he thought about making a break for it.
Just as his mind wandered to such a thing however he would feel Wind stir, the dark haired woman rolling her head from her cheek, which was resting soundly on his chest to her chin which then lightly pressed against the top of his stomach. Wind would part her lips in a large yawn, Mike taking the sight of several fanged teeth as her pink tongue curled just like a feral canines tongue would when they yawned. Perhaps a lycanthrope was part of some kind of ancient canine species...what the hell was he thinking!? Did such details really matter? Mike would tilt his head to the side while rolling his eyes at such thoughts before he threw them out of his mind, it really didn't matter and he didn't need to know such details; it wasn't like he was doing some kind of documentary on Wind's species.
Wind however seemed to catch on to Mike's venting emotions, she could tell he was nervous and the stress was beginning to build, his mind working to distract himself from that hidden fear that he tried to keep locked away. She didn't seem to know what to say to him so instead she pulled herself up his body to wrap her arms about his neck, to pull the distraught male into a soft embrace. Words weren't needed it seemed as Mike was rocked from his thoughts that were coming at him at a hundred miles a minute by the soft hug of Wind who seemed more than content to just lay there with him. No words were spoken and no more actions were taken as Mike slowly let his body relax. No use in dwelling on this and that and he damn sure didn't need to self-implode like that; 'Might as well try to rest again.' With this final thought of returning to sleep Mike let his eyes drift shut once again.
Mike opened his eyes after what felt like only a few seconds only to find himself alone in the dark cave, turning his head to peer out the cave only to see that the sun was still present but now from the bright shine to that dull orange sunset tone. Wind had gotten up and disappeared and Koro apparently called in sick as she was still missing. All in all Mike found it amazing just how good at sleeping he was, who knew all that practice would have led to him being so good at it; yet enough with his silent self-praise. He pulled himself from the bed he would stretch a bit before standing; his body was still covered in that paint like paste and he also found that the jeans had remained on his body, a sign that Koro hadn't had a paw in getting him to the cave last night. Normally his clothes were removed by the large wolf, Wind apparently didn't mind him keeping such things and his mind began to wonder if she had any trouble in getting him to the cave; then again she was able to hoist him up by the throat with one arm so that thought was quickly answered without the help of another opinion.
Stepping from the cave he would turn his gaze up toward the sky first, the orange hue that now colored the sky sparked his mind to begin yet again and a silent panic to grow inside of him. That knot in his stomach just didn't want to go away it seemed and the more he tried to suppress it the tighter it seemed to grow.
After staring at the sky for a few moments Mike would turn his attention down to the leave covered ground before him, he still had time. Glancing left then right, he scanned the area slowly and made sure that no one, not Koro, Wind or that old man Moon's Shadow were around; if he wanted to he could make a run of it since he was clear. Turning toward the North in through, Wind said that the clan wouldn't help him where that open field started, if they wanted to however he was sure they wouldn't stop at some invisible line that Wind dragged out with her heel. He was pretty fast though, his body had healed, he could get some good distance if he really booked it, it was during all these thoughts that the sentence,
"Thinking of running?" would flow out from a voice that only belonged to Koro.
The wolf had snuck up on Mike it would seem, his eyes slightly wide and he nearly jumped at her sudden question while he was lost in deep thought, he was sure that Koro already knew the answer to her question. Mikes right hand would move up to rub the side of his head before he turned to look at the giant wolf,
"Yeah, was wondering how far I would get before someone noticed."
His answer caused Koro to tilt her head to the side seeming to be a bit surprised at his honest answer, she didn't seem upset however as she padded closer to the human before sitting down on her hunches just a few steps from him.
"I won't pretend to know what you're going through Michael..." the giant wolf then crane her head to the side while leaning back, using her hind right paw to scratch at the back of her neck just like a feral. It was something of a surprise to Mike; the mere sight seemed to put him off. Since Koro was capable of speech it was like she was more of a person than a feral creature yet either way once she stopped she greeted Mike's off put gaze with a simple 'What?'
Mike didn't answer however as he moved his right hand from the side of his head to rub over his lips and chin before letting his arm drop to his side,
"Say Koro, if I started to run right now...would you stop me?"
The wolfs ears perked forward quickly and her eyes narrowed as the human stared off, not making eye contact with her,
"I would..." her answer was quick and it held a deep serious tone, "If it were just me Michael, I might have let you go but you wouldn't be hurting just me anymore. You'd be hurting Wind as well if you ran away now." The mention of Wind did draw Mike into making eye contact with the Dire Wolf,
"This might confuse you now but you'll understand later, but me and Wind are birth sisters. We were born on the same day, I being the older by a few hours yet even though we are different in appearance we share the bond of sisters. I've known Wind all her life..." Koro would move to stand and lower her head as if ready to charge at the human before her.
"She is tough, cold at times and very strong willed. She never shows her emotions...or she didn't. Not until you came around..." Koro's gaze changed considerably, that harsh ready to attack glare became soft and almost motherly in a way as her eyes shifted off to the side showing her own memories coming to surface.
Mike taking this moment to approach Koro and actually seat himself next to her; she followed suit and sat down once more. "You've changed her, I don't hate you for it as I've never seen that expression on her face before..." Mike couldn't pin down which expression Koro was referring to as he hadn't known Wind as long as Koro but he was sure it was one when they were alone, possibly the one when he kissed her? The giant wolf would shift her weight and lean up against the human slightly, his right arm moving up to stroke her back as she continued.
"She's happy, and I'm happy because she is happy. She'll never say it aloud, at least not with others around, but she does love you Michael...I do...too"
Mike would swear he saw Koros muzzle turn a darker shade in what seemed to be a 'blush' but it was hard to tell with the fur, her ears fanning out to the sides and her averted gaze however seemed to emphasize embarrassment well enough. Yet Koro quickly jumped to her paws and spun around to glare down Mike nose to muzzle,
"Since we both love you I won't let you run away! If you wanted to when we first met I wouldn't have given it a second thought but not anymore, if you start running I'll drag you back kicking and screaming if I have to!" Her threat seemed very real and Mike wouldn't even question her as he stared into the wolfs eyes, breaking this slightly tense air around them by reaching up and giving a pat to the front of Koros chest. With the air broken around them Koro seemed to relax and moved to sit down on her hunches once again while she looked at Mike face to muzzle.
Shifting himself back to prop himself up on his extended arms Mike would turn his gaze up to the sky once again, it was getting dark fast and there was little he could do now. His greatest escape plan of his entire life had just been foiled by a wolf that claimed she was in love with him...stranger things have happened, right?
Either way the sound of coming footsteps gained both Koro and Mikes attention, they turned their gazes to look over at Elder Moons Shadow as he approached seeing that the old man was not alone however as he was with his mate Moons Light. The old man would have that normal smile resting upon his aged features as he looked between the wolf and human, who rested on the ground before him,
"It is almost time Michael, come with us." An order, clearly. Yet the old man held such an openly friendly expression and his words were serious yet held a nice tone to them Mike felt it was more of a request than an order.
Standing he would follow the two Moons with Koro in tow, moving through the autumn forest back toward that large standing rock structure but that would not be the destination, those smaller stones that Mike had stood upon a few days ago when they did some kind of ritual on him. His place was determined as the middle stone once again and a similar order to the last time had taken place, Moons Shadow standing before him on the ground yet around him would be nothing but full Lycanthrope save for Koro who stood behind him on another stone. When everything was set the full moon had just begun to appear clearly and its white rays had illuminated the area. 'Very poetic' were Mike's thoughts as he looked upon at the large white circle in the sky. Moons Shadow would gain everyone's attention as he raised both of his hands in the air, silence being in place of what was soft talk between one another within the clan.
Slowly opening his wrinkled eye lids those neon blue eyes would seem to be glowing, as Mike took a moment to glance around he would see that everyone eyes had a glowing shine to them, the wolves, Dire wolves, anthros and even the humans. It was unnerving to say the least and he could feel his heart begin to pound within his chest as Moon lowered his arms,
"Michael, you are now to become one of us, one with our clan. The pain you will feel in just a moment cannot be described...are you ready?"
Mike stood there for a moment, his breath being shallow as he tried to keep up a calm front but it was failing and he knew those around him could tell, he would close his eyes while gritting his teeth before giving a soft 'heh' and smiling down to Moon who would hold his serious gaze.
"What if I said no?" this seeming to bring a friendly smile to the older man as he closed his eyes, "Then I would ask that you forgive me for this..."
With that Mike would feel a pain in his right shoulder that took all the strength from his legs, his knees buckling the moment his brain registered that he was in pain. A strong grip latched onto his arms holding him up and keeping him from falling, gritted teeth and a groan of pain and anger ripped from behind those clenched teeth as he pulled his head to the left to try and gaze upon what was hurting him.
Wind would be the source, her green eyes glowing as they seemed to glare from the corner of her eyes into Mike's, almost as if she was glaring right through him. The pain? It was none other than her fangs, she had taken a massive mouth full of Mike's should and it felt like she had bitten all the way down to his collar bone from both sides. Holding him steady as she ground his jaw for a moment causing him to hang his head and hiss out in pain before he was suddenly released to fall to his knees, his left arm moving out and catching himself with the side of his fore arm; his entire right arm limp and unresponsive.
Panting out in heavy huffs Mike would blink several times before looking to the right slightly seeing his own blood pool onto the ground, "That wasn't so bad..." he would huff out after a moment yet Winds feet would suddenly appear before him and he would struggle slightly to look up at her as she glared down at him.
"It's about to get a lot worse..." holding out her right hand the nails on the ends of her fingers would seem to grow slightly, curling her fingers in to make a fist they would dig into her palm causing blood to easily flow out. Mike didn't speak as he watched her carefully, thinking this seemed more like a vampire thing going down. Yet Wind didn't ask him to drink her own blood but she held it over Mikes shoulder letting her blood fall down into his would and what was originally a heated would suddenly burst into a full fledge inferno.
He wasn't sure of what this reaction was but all he knew is his shoulder felt like it was being ripped apart by some kind of blazing beast and in turn screamed out in sheer agony. Falling to his side his left arm would reach up to rip at his bleeding shoulder but soon the blaze would overtake his entire body as Winds blood flowed throughout him.
Screamed ripping from his throat and his vision blurred before his eyes clenched shut as he tried to figure out a way to stop this pain that was coursing through him.
Wind had backed away and was not standing by her grandfather who silently watched as the human before them rolled back and forth, from his back to his knees while screaming out in pain. Wind would look down to her grandfather with a less than confident glare as she had given Mike; it seemed she was playing the strong front but now held a worried gaze.
"I know Wind, you have never seen a human take on out blood before. It is a very violent thing and one which we do not share openly, unlike us Michael was born a human and now he is becoming something else..." the older man would approach the stone before him where Michael lay screaming.
"It is not something I am proud of, out blood essentially is a plague upon a human body. It rushes through their veins and destroys everything they once were in terms of species, and once it reaches the brain that is essentially attempting to keep everything together out blood will over write the base line for what a human is."
Michael would suddenly roll onto his knees; his fore arms resting on the stone as with his head hung down between his arms, sweat and blood mixed with spit had stained the stone he was on. His fingers stretched out and clawed at the stone, the scraping of actual claws seemed to cause several ears to perk forward. Slowly letting his jaws part fanged teeth would be present , the sound of cracking bones would now begin to echo out and sudden Mike would shift himself up onto his knees throwing his upper body up and back. His arms spread out showing his body, his ribs could be seen bulging out against his flesh as his muscles seemed to become highly defined. His once brown eyes were white like that image from several days ago and what flowed from his throat was not that of a scream but an enraged roar that would cause many around to falter.
Those lycanthrope that stood upon the stones around Mike would keep themselves rooted in place and Moons Shadow would open his eyes once again to gaze upon the human before him. Mike let forth that massive roar before hoisting his arms up over his head, hands curled into fists that were quickly smashed down onto the stone he resided upon. Once his fists collided with the stone a massive burst of aura would soar out in a green wave of energy that would overtake all those around them, simply washing over them and causing them to shift their weight back before regaining their balance.
Upon recovery Mike would be seen standing upon the stone, apparel very proudly yet he still maintained his human appearance yet he seemed, larger. His body had shifted and it seemed he even grew a few inches, those white eyes which could not be traced were clearly glaring at Elder Moons Shadow who stared back calmly. Suddenly Mike would shift his weight and dash off toward the right, jumping left and right to pass by anyone that stood in his way but many tried to avoid him as he ran off into the shadows. Elder Moon would turn his head slightly, his right eye closed while his left stared off in the direction that Mike had ran,
"Wind, Koro!" The dire wolf and woman would need no more words as they dashed off after him, disappearing quickly into the shadows.
Elder Moons Shadow would slowly turn to look back at the stone that Mike had been upon only a moment ago, his aged right hand moving out to lightly run along the smooth surface, finding a crack resting where Mike had struck. His mate would approach from behind,
"Will he be alright?" her voice was deep yet very gentle as it flowed from the air, her muzzle not shifting about like a humans would to form words.
Elder Moon would shift his hand over the fault within the stone a few times before turning with that friendly smile, "He will be just fine..."
Turning himself about to step back toward the large pillar to stones, many quickly rallying around him with concerned expression and quick questions yet he would silence them all by raising his hands yet again.
"I understand your concerns, many of you have never witnessed this ritual before, but all is well. Michael has done nothing wrong, in all essence he has performed amazingly well for what has happened." As he lowered his hands more questions would still come from concerned voices,
'What happened?' 'Will Wind and Koro be alright?' 'Why did he run off like that?' All of which caused the elder man's smile to grow slightly. Lifting his head slightly he would look upon the full moon,
"I will answer all your concerns; it fills me with a joy to see you all so concerned with the wellbeing of our new sibling. Now as for why he ran off..."
Charging through the woods Mike would huff out heavily, he had never ran so fast before in his left; the trees around him were like blurs as he weaved around them. His mad dash would be cut short however as a large paw was suddenly pushed against his side causing his balance to fall and he quickly hit the ground. The fallen leaves caused him to slide quite a ways before Mike rolled and jumped back to his feet, sliding just a few more yards on his heels as he bared fanged teeth with nasty snarl.
The shaded figure before him would be a clear silhouette of a lycanthrope, as the b east approached the features would be clear. A tall beasts at nearly eight feet yet the physical appearance would seem to be built toward speed rather than brute strength; long limps with fur that seemed to be close held like that of a Doberman dog. The fur would be a shining black all over, the only area where fur would actually bristle would be a long line of fur that ran from the base of the lycanthropes neck down its spine till it reached a long tail that would bush out. The lycanthrope would tilt its head slightly as it slowed to a stop, physically it did not seem intimidating, the build was like that of a female lycanthrope as well, meaning small mounds upon the chest resembled breasts. Neon green eyes glowed out in the moon light as they glared down toward Mike who snapped his jaws letting spit fly out into the open air.
There was no calm feeling nor 'wait and see' as Mike quickly charged toward the larger lycanthrope who quickly lowered its stance ready to go up against Mike as he closed the distance yet once again he was knocked off balance as Koro smashed her front paws into his right side causing him to tumble, Koro having jumped into the air and pushed him over. Mike rolled off to the left and quickly regained his foot, growling and snapping his jaws once again and even swinging his right arm down and then across his chest at Koro.
"He seems playful" Koro would mention aloud causing the lycanthrope to narrow her eyes slightly as she stared at Mike.
Mike would only growl out in anger before charging once again, this time toward Koro but yet again as he neared he would be knocked to the ground by the Lycanthrope yet he seemed to be quick on the recovery as he rolled onto his back. Planting his feet onto the ground he would push off the ground and spear the lycanthrope, the force being enough to cause the lycanthrope to 'hack' out slightly as the wind was pushed from her lungs. Mike seemed to be far more powerful as he quickly hooked his arms under the lycanthropes knees, even those digitigrade legs held the same tendons as a humans knees and once he pulled on them from the back the lycanthrope found herself fall to the earth.
Mike however did not wish to tackle the lycanthrope to the ground however as he quickly spun to the right as soon as he held the lycanthropes center of mass, quickly slamming the larger beast into Koro who was already mid jump when Mike spun about. Throwing the lycanthrope away with Koro and roaring out, it was a much softer roar and didn't hold such an impact as the first one did at the ritual.
Elder Moon would be seated upon the g round near a large bon fire, having moved away from the ritual stones and all had gathered around him to learn about what happened. "Michael was born a human, which means when he was introduced to our blood his mind quickly went into a panic, the reason he was in pain was because our blood is very dominant and began quickly killing his own." Slowly tilting his head back to look upon the large bon fire before him,
"Many do not survive such a thing, his body being taken over and then violently changed..." Elder Moon would turn to look upon a younger dire wolf that spoke up, 'is that why he seemed to get taller?' The older male smiling that friendly smile, "Yes, what we all witnessed would be his natural appearance from this day forth, it will be easier for him to transform into either a Dire wolf or a Lycanthrope with this form. His bones had resituated, his muscles becoming more prominent it makes for an easier shift."
As Elder Moon grew silent more questions would come forth, 'Why did he run away?' this one seeming to silence all others, Elder Moon would open his glowing blue eyes once more as he stared into the fire,
"When we bask in the moon light we all get a greater urge, some wolves howl while Dire wolves feel a desire to run, lycanthrope the desire for a fight even should it be playful. Michael is experiencing this for the first time in his life, that mixed with the pain in his body and the panic in his heart he simply did the first thing he felt a desire to do...most attack the first person they see which is why I said he handled it quite well."
Lifting his right hand out he would look over his palm as small chatter around him had sprung up, his friendly smile being broke slightly as he laughed slightly, "Right now I wouldn't be surprised if he was fighting Koro and Wind right now. " This causing one of the anthros to stand claiming that others should go to help, yet the elder stopped him by turning his hand toward the Anthro.
"You misunderstand. Imagine a young child throwing a fit, it is not best to give the child what they desire but allow them to simply wear themselves out. Think of it that way. Michael is not out to kill but he now has an abundance of energy that he needs to release, this is the best way. Putting more against him could cause him to panic and actually hurt someone or worse yet one of our own could hurt him. He doesn't know his limits nor does he understand completely what is happening so Wind and Koro are more than enough for him, they hold an attachment to one another. All will be fine." His words seemed to calm everyone done greatly and he lowered his hand before turning it to look upon his palm once again.
Within the forest Koro would be tossed aside, sliding upon the leaves before hitting a tree with a soft yip, locked with fists in larger furred hands would be the lycanthrope Wind and Mike who were growling at one another quite fiercely. Mikes fists having been caught by Wind who now stared down at the smaller human with her own bared fangs yet it seemed Mike who was also growling in anger was also running out of steam. His breaths were ragged, even though the growling it could be seen that he was losing his drive, even his strength that had originally matched Winds was starting to falter as his arms slowly began to tremble as Wind began to push him back. Slowly Mike would be slide back along the leaf covered ground yet as he started to try and get his second wind a push back Koro would suddenly strike him from the side causing him to sprawl out and smashed into a tree, turn about seeming to be fair play as he slowly pushed himself back up on shaky legs.
Huffing out through clenched teeth he would begin to walk toward Wind and Koro who stood there watching the human approach with fire still burning in those pure white eyes of his. Yet as he came within striking range he would collapse, Koro jumping in quickly to have Mike land on her, looking back over her shoulder to peer at the human slung over her back. The lycanthrope would slowly seem to shift back, there were no sounds of bones cracking or any noise at all save for a similar sound to the crackling of a fire as Winds body changed back into her human appearance.
Looking down over Mikes limp body she would reach out and lightly pet the back of his head with a soft expression on her face, still worried clearly but she had at least calmed down slightly seeing that he was still alive if not slightly...different.
Mike awoke the next morning only to find himself alone in the cave once again, he wasn't sure how long he had been asleep or really what had happened last night but he knew one thing, he felt heavy. It was like his entire body was lead, as if he had a really bad cold and he was just being dragged down by the feeling. He didn't try to move, he couldn't really. He just laid there and fell back to sleep without so much as an attempt to do anything else.
Nearly two days had passed as he lay there, waking only for a short time before drifting back to sleep yet this time he felt himself unable to drift back into a dream, it wasn't hunger or thirst that kept him awake though he did feel both needs picking at his body. No, even though he had been sleeping he hadn't really 'rested' for all this time, he felt anxious and even though it was like trying to push a mountain he forced himself to sit up.
Looking around he did see a few small patches of dried food and a bucket of water, he had been given things to eat and drink but this was his first time seeing them. He didn't want it however, he wanted this anxious feeling to go away as it was starting to drive him a bit mad. It was as he tried to turn himself about and place his feet upon the cave floor that something would catch his eye, quickly looking up with a jump only to see Moons Shadow standing at the mouth of the cave. Staring at the older man who merely stared back with a serious expression, Mike eventually breaking the silence with a 'What' which caused the older man to smile his friendly smile.
"It is good to see you doing so well. I was worried about you so I came to see if you were still asleep..." Elder Moon would be interrupted however as Mike spoke out,
"Where are Wind and Koro?" the old man showing a bit of surprise for a split moment before smiling.
Turning himself about, "They are at the bon fires, they will be there all night tonight. Wind and Koro will not come here to see you..." Mike felt himself lower his gaze to the floor, wondering what had happened and if he had hurt them some way.
"It is your turn to chase them, so come and see them." With that the older man would disappear into the night, Mike sitting there with some confusion on his features yet it quickly turned to determination as he forced himself to stand only to catch himself against the cave wall. Panting with shallow breaths he would slowly stagger forward, the world seemed to be spinning and it really did feel like he was in the fit of a very bad cold; but he pushed on.
It seemed like hours before he finally made it to the mouth of the cave, pulling himself free before he looked about to see the fires in the distance, his vision was far from sharp and for all he knew he could be looking at the sky and those little lights could be stars. Taking it on faith he moved forward, his balance was jacked but that small journey through the cave had given him enough experience with it to make it from tree to tree. If the small trip from the bed to the mouth of the cave felt like hours this was a full year worth of a journey, staggering this way and that he drew closer and closer. Yet as he drew closer he could hear voices, he could also see shadows shifting and after getting a few steps closer a silence would be drawn with a loud 'Look who's here' suddenly echoed out.
Mike could feel the eyes on him, it seemed he was the center of attention so at least he wasn't staring at the sky. With his left arm out stretched and his hand against the tree he narrowed his eyes to try and see who was around him but it was fairly difficult, suddenly however two figures would appear before him. He kept his eyes narrowed as he looked between the two, it seemed it was the same Anthro and human who had given him his warm welcome the first time he approached the bon fires all that time ago.
"Glad to see your out and about" would come one of the twos voice, he couldn't really tell though as the Anthro reached out to touch Mike on the right shoulder just the small added weight cause his knees to buckle and gravity quickly took control. Yet with quick reflexed both the Anthro and human caught Mike as he fell, quick words like 'Woah and easy there!' there given out as they both pulled him up, hooking his arms around their necks, 'We know where you wanna go...' would be their reassurance as they started to drag him off.
Mike tried to keep his feet under him but was dragged along more than crutched, moving about he could feel more eyes on him before whispers and talk was thrown out about this and that. Soon enough however the blurred image of a fairly large bon fire would come into view and the call out 'Wind, look what we found!' Once again silence was the response yet Mike would narrow his eyes to a figure seated off to the right, black hair and dark skin and soon the image of a white wolf stepping up behind the dark haired figure could be seen.
Mike would be dragged over and seated down next to Wind who would be looking over him curiously, Koro even leaning in to nose at his neck giving a few sniffs, as the banter and talk kicked back up Wind would reach out to lightly run her fingers through Mikes hair. The normal questions would be asked, 'How are you' and 'Do you feel alright' which Mike answered honestly, 'I feel like shit'. Winds response to such an answer would be pulling Mike over to her and laying his head on her lap, Koro also doing her part and laying up against his left side and setting her head onto his bare chest.
With his back on the cool ground Mike would stare up at Wind who had turned her attention back to the fire for a moment, "You weren't there when I woke up..." it wasn't so much as 'where were you' in a panic or demanding tone but curious. Wind blinked and turned to look down at Mike, "Me and Koro have visited you every day but you were always asleep."
Closing his eyes yet still showing a bit of confusion, "Elder Moon told me you wouldn't come to see me, you or Koro...he said I had to chase you..." Wind would pull her head back slightly a soft blush flowing over her cheeks while Koros wide eyes stared up at Mike, her ears perked forward. Both females turned to look at one another for a moment before the distant laughter of Elder Moon drew their attention.
Mike could not see the two females expression and reaction yet he calmed down as Wind began to brush her fingers through his hair once more. "Don't worry about it Mike, we're here now and we'll be here the next time you wake up." Her words seemed to calm him down and he could even feel Koro snuggle up to him once again, Elder Moon looking over at the three as his mate lowered her head to lightly place her muzzle on his shoulder. The older male holding his friendly smile very proudly as he turned to look into the fire, his neon blue eyes staring deep into the shifting flames as his expression fell back to a serious gaze even as the happy talk around him continued on.
Looking over the several screens as shadowed figures shifting about a deep voice would call out as a feline in a suit would stare at the floor with a hung head. His left arm having been removed at the shoulder, his right leg gone mid shin and his right arm holding a crutch firmly under his arm.
"So you are telling me that not only did you not retrieve anyone from the surviving team, you lost contact with all subjects within the experiment as well? Do you find this to be acceptable?"
The feline offered no words but continued to start at the floor, his eyes wide yet showing pure fear as he visibly shook, "When you were placed in this position you were beaming with superiority. Then you recklessly go out in person rather than sending a detachment and then you end up in this sorry state, you were lucky I sent out a secondary team to supervise your reckless actions. Did you think that just because you were injured that you would not have to own up to your actions?"
The feline still remained silence as the shadows around him slowly stopped what they were doing and began to stare at him as he stood before this final shaded figure, "Very well then. You will face punishment for your failure but not before you answer this question..." the feline slowly began to lift his head to peer at the figure before him. "Nine members of a training team were first deployed, eight of our subjects were released after that and then a team of six were sent out for the final phase of testing. Now why is it we have all subject corpses and only fourteen soldier corpses?"
The feline would part his jaw as he shook slightly, ready to give his answer as the shaded figure before him narrowed its glowing gaze that demanded the answer.
