Chapter 7: Discovery

With a very full stomach Seth spent the rest of the day exploring further down the cost. He had up until now felt completely safe in the air, but after seeing that dragon in action he wasn't taking any chances. He kept scanning the sky above, below, and most importantly behind him. The dragon was the largest flying animal he had seen so far, but that didn't mean that there weren't other large flying predators out there.

He flew down into the jungle, and started looking for a place to sleep about an hour before sun set. He found himself a decent spot at the base of a large branch about 600 feet up in one of the massive skyscraper size trees. The tree was covered in the same thick green moss so he found himself a bunch of leaves, some of which were as big as a kitchen table, and laid them out to sleep on. He took another leaf, and wrapped up the meat he was carrying with it. He then tied it up with some vines, and hung it far away from himself in another tree so as not to attract any predators to his location.

He laid down on his back with his hands behind his head, so as to keep the horns on his head from hitting against the branch. As he was getting comfortable, he started to replay the seen of the dragon raping that duckbill dinosaur like creature. He hadn't thought much about his own lack of genitalia, or for that matter he wasn't sure if he even had any. As he thought about the dragon, he knew it was the same species as the one he had seen back at the crater. Except for walking on two legs he looked more or less just like it. They were both the same color, and their heads looked the same, except the dragon's horns were much longer, but he figured that was most likely because the dragon was older. Their basic body shape including their wings were about the same. The only real different was that he walked on two legs and had arms; that and he was obviously much smaller.

As he compared himself to the dragon it lead him to the next most obvious question. He knew that reptiles genitals were internal, but as he compared himself to the dragon he asked himself if he was the same in that department as well. He stared down at the smooth rounded hump between his legs. He couldn't think of anyway to find out, short of cutting himself open.

He tried to put those ideas out of his head and just relax, but he still kept getting flashes and images of the brutal rape going through his head. He didn't feel horny, or have any interest in sex any more, at lest not since he turned into a dragon. Maybe dragons matured slower than humans he didn't know, but it would explain why he no longer had any interest in sex any more. If he was as similar to the dragon as he suspected he was, then he figured he would eventually find out some day. The more he thought about it the more he hoped that, that was the answer. But it lead him to a troubling thought. It occurred to him that he might be the only intelligent person on the entire planet. If that were true then raping a defenses animal would be the only way he would even have sex.

After replaying the events through his head again, he knew there was no way he could bring himself to rape a defenseless animal. He felt bad enough killing animals for food, but he knew it was either that or starve to death.

As he tried to relax he noticed large, bright yellow, blobs on some of the nearby trees. At first he thought they were just flowers, but after a while he noticed they were moving. They were moving so slowly that you wouldn't have even known they were moving unless you actually sat and watched one long enough.

After he realized they weren't plants his curiosity got the better of him, and he had to go and check it out. After a short hop from one branch to another he found one, and walked up to it. It was bright yellow, and was as big as a loaf of bread. It had six beady eyes at the ends of long eye stalks, and he could see that it was some kind of giant slug. It left a very noticeable trail of thick slim behind it, as it ate it's way through the moss. He stuck out a finger, and gave it a poke with the tip of his claw. As soon as he touched it, it sucked it's eyes into it's body and rolled up into a ball. 'Well isn't that's cute,' he thought to himself.

The sky had turned red and orange, as the sun started disappearing over the distant mountains. After poking the giant slug a few more times, he flew back to his temporary bed, and as he landed he discovered that two of his fingers were stuck together. He didn't realize it until now, but when he poked the slug he had gotten it's slim on his claws, and it was incredibly sticky. He found himself some leaves, and it took him several tries to get it all off.

"I sure wouldn't want to try and eat one of those things you'd end up gluing your mouth shut for sure." he said to himself as he threw the used leaf over the edge of the branch. "I guess that's why they can get away with being bright yellow."

Seth woke the next morning feeling rested, and ready for a new day. When he stood up he noticed that one of the giant leaves he had been sleeping on was stuck to his tail. He brought his tail around in front of him to pull it off, and found a patch of slim covering his tail. He carefully pulled the leaf off, and he realized one of those giant slugs had crawled across his tail while he slept. He thought he would never get it off, but after doing some scraping and wiping he eventual got it all off. He retrieved the meat he had hidden the day before, and took to the air once again.

He flew further down the cost seeing more rivers and islands, and more endless jungle, until half way into the day he saw something unusual, and flew down for a closer look. He felt his excitement grow, as what he found turned out to be the remains of a ship. He could see it had crashed against some rocks, and it's hull had broken open. He flew down and landed on the deck. The ship was cracked in half, and was laying part way on it's side, tilting the deck at an odd angel. The ship was made of wood, and was obviously a sailing ship, from the many mast and torn sails, which were flapping in the light breeze.

Seth spent the rest of the day exploring the remains of the ship, and contemplating who had sailed it. He found it had two levels, the bottom of which was flooded with water, but he never found any people or any bodies. He found some empty barrels, but couldn't find any sign of who or what had built it. It looked like it had been there for several months, or maybe even longer.

He stayed on the ship, and watched the sun go down over the distant mountains. He couldn't find any comfortable spots on the ship to sleep, since it was all wood, so he spent the night in a tree.

When he woke the next morning he felt a new urge to explore. He had seen plenty of the cost, and as he stared off at the towering green mountains in the distance he had an urge to see them up close. He was also determined to find out who had built that ship. So far he hadn't done much exploring away from the cost, and he wanted to see what was on the other side of the mountains.

He ate the leftover meat he had, before he set off towards the distant mountains. It took him until around noon to reach the first set of mountains. He got a new sense of scale as he soared between nearly vertical cliffs. He found many lakes and rivers, both big and small, creating beautiful waterfalls like nothing he had ever seen before.

As he was exploring he found a water fall that emptied into a small rock filled lake, which caught his attention. He was thirsty and had been flying all day, so he flew down for a closer look, and a drink of water. What he found was actually a series of about a dozen water falls. Each waterfall ended in it's own little pool before falling down into the pool below, which finally ended at the lake at the every bottom.

What had interested him the most was the way the water had carved away the mountain side. It looked like the flow of the water had shifted many times over many thousands of years, and what it left behind were many hollowed out and rounded sections in the rock.

As he helped himself to a drink of water, he noticed a dark hole about fifty feet up the cliff face. He stood up, and looked more closely, and he could see it was the entrance to a cave. The entrance was nothing more than a slit in the rock, maybe ten feet wide and twenty feet high. There were so many clinging plants growing around the hole that they almost completely hide the opening. He had an urge to check it out, and flew up to get a closer look.

As he flew through the opening he had to fold his wings back at the last second to avoid hitting the sides of the stone wall. He found that the inside was many times larger than the opening. The cave floor was covered with moss, and there was a damp, organic, smell in the air. He could see that the walls and floor that had been carved smooth by the water that had once flowed through it.

He walked for several hundred feet, before the stone floor started going up hill. There was just enough light for him to see the outline of the ground and walls, but not much else. The moss covering the cave floor softened the sound of his foot steps. The only sound he could hear was the chirping of insects, and the distant sound of falling water. He started to see light coming from in front of him, as he made his way towards the end of the cave.

The light grew brighter as he entered an enormous hollowed out chamber. He could see that the water had carved strange wavy humps into the stone floor. What he found to be the best part of all was that there was a large hole worn through the rock wall. He could hear the sound of falling water as he made his way towards the opening. He looked through the hole, and directly in front of him was another vertical wall of rock, and to his left was another small waterfall. He looked down, and found a small pool of water about twenty feet below, before it poured over the edge of another cliff.

He was liking what he was seeing. It was protected from predators, and he even had his own whirl pool. The cave felt like a mansion complete with it's own privet entrance and lake. It was the best place he had found so far, and he decided to call it home, at least for awhile. As a kid the idea of having is own home, even if it was a cave, was something he just couldn't resist.

Seth spent the remainder of the day looking the cave over and exploring more of the darker areas. He looked for any signs that would indicate that a larger animal might be living there, but he hadn't found any. The floor of the cave was highly irregular. Every edge had been worn smooth. Shallow pits, some as wide as 10 feet covered the cave floor, but most weren't more that a few feet deep. He found that some of the holes were still partly filled with sand, which the moss apparently couldn't grow in it.

Seth discovered that the moss covering the cave floor was filled with bugs, and occasional he could feel them as he was walking. He walked onto one of the large sand filled pits near the rear entrance. He could feel the softness of the sand, as his feet sunk in, and it gave him an idea. The sand wasn't deep enough, so he spent the next several hours piling sand onto large leaves from the surrounding holes, and dumping it into the pit he had picked out. When he was done he had filled the depression in the cave floor with enough sand that he could lay on it and not feel the stone beneath it.

As he looked at the pit he had just filled, he decided it needed one more thing. He left the cave, and made several trips until he had a thick pile of leaves with which to cover the sand. He laid down, and tested it out, and was surprised to find it was more comfortable than he though it would be, and he though it actually felt a lot like a water bed.

Seth slept great that night, and when he woke he found he had been bitten several times by bugs while he slept. The bites were itchy like a mosquito bite, but the bites were much larger. He had an idea for solving the bug problem, but he was to hungry at the moment to do anything about it, and he set off to search for food.

He flew for several miles before finding a good place to perch. He sat for a few hours high up it a tree which hung over the river that flowed out from the lake. He was rewarded when a large lizard about the size of an alligator came down for a drink. He flew down after it, and killed it with practice ease. He took his prey, and sat high up in the safety of a tree as he started to eat.

He was still eating when he saw an animal walking over and around some large rocks at the edge of the river. It caught his attention because it walked upright on two legs, and at first glance he though he had just seen a person. As he looked more closely he could see it's legs which were shaped like his. It was definitely reptilian, like just about every other animal he had seen on this world. He could see that it had arms and hands like a man's, and it had an unusually intelligent look to it.

It's skin was dark green with medium green stripes covering it's body. It's coloring had allowed it to blend into the jungle so well that he never even noticed it until it was walking along the edge of the river. It's head was shaped similar to that of a Velociraptor, except it had large pointed ears on the sides of it's head, just like himself.

He could tell from it's head, and the long curving claws on it's hands and feet, that it was definitely a predator. He could also see that this predator wasn't doing so well. It's body was incredible skinny, and he could even see it's hip bones. He could see every rib, and even the breast bone protruding from the center of it's chest. It's face looked sunken in, and he could see the bones in it's tail sticking out against it's skin.

Like some unfortunate or unwanted pet, he was beginning to feel sorry for the poor thing, so he ripped a leg off of the carcass he had been eating, and threw it down to it. The creature jumped backwards and fell over when the piece of meat hit the ground directly in front of it. As soon as the creature saw the piece of meat that had mysteriously fallen from the sky, it quickly picked it up and ran off into the jungle.

Seth had finished exploring the mountains in the surrounding area a few days earlier. He had spent several weeks exploring the landscape in all directions, but he always returned to the safety and relative comfort of his new cave. He saw the mysterious creature more frequently over those two weeks. Each time he saw it he would toss it a piece of meat.

He knew the only reason he hadn't moved on was the animal he kept feeding. The affects of his isolation were finally starting to take their toll on him, and he knew it. He hadn't talked to anyone since he got stuck on this alien world, or even heard another voice. He could feel himself growing attached to it, and he could feel the need for any kind of social interaction playing with his mind.

The creature would purposefully show itself, but always from a distance, and wait for him to feed it. He knew the creature was hanging around the area waiting to be feed, and he looked forward to feeding it, with an ever growing need. After feeding it for several weeks he thought of it as a pet.

The idea of having a pet helped keep his mind sane, and remind him of who he was, but he knew that isolation would change him with time, and it scared him. As much as he liked the idea of having a pet, he knew that if he wanted to avoid becoming as much of a wild animal as his body had become, then he had to find the builders of that ship. He knew he had to be moving on.

When Seth woke the next morning he went out to hunt, before resuming his quest. He had killed an animal that was to large for him to carry, and as he was feeding he saw his pet again. He watched as it walked out from behind the cover of some thick vegetation. He stared at it, and it stared back at him. He cut off a piece of meat, and tossed it to it. It quickly picked it up, and ate it. He tossed it another piece, but this time he tossed closer. The creature seemed hesitant, but it came closer, and took it.

Seth walked backwards, away from the fresh kill, and sat back on his hunches, inviting the animal to help itself. The creature still hesitated, but hunger won out, and it eventual came closer. It kept it's eyes on Seth as it started to hungrily tare into the freshly killed animal.

"It almost looks intelligent," he said to himself as he watched it. As soon as he spoke the creature stopped eating and looked at him.

It tilled it's head, and said with a hiss "Did you just say something?" Seth was so surprised to hear it speak that he just stared at it, unsure of whether he was going crazy.

"You can talk?"he finally asked it. It seemed like a dumb question, but it was the only thing he could think of.

"Yes," it said with a nervous look. He could understand what it was saying, but it had a strange accent. It hisses it's words with a ruggedness like nothing he had ever heard before.

"I've never seen anything like you before," it hissed. "And how is it that you speak the human language?"

"Ahh It's a long story," he told it not sure of what else to say, and the creature stood up without taking it's eyes off him.

"Thanks for the food," it said, and even Seth could tell that it was nervous and afraid.

"Your welcome," he told it with a nod. "You know you don't look so great. Your welcome to have as much as you want. You look like you could use it." Seth tried to sound as friendly and comforting as he could. He realized he was actually talking to someone for the first time in months, and he didn't want the conversation to end with it running off in fear.

"Really!" it said with a surprised expression.

"Sure why not, and if you want you can have anything else I catch," and the creature started at him for a minuet before speaking.

"My name's Vor," it said as it laid it's hand against it's chest.

"My name's Seth," he told it.

"Seth that's a strange name." The creature repeated his name a few more times with emphasis on the S.

"It's a strange name, but I like it," it told him, and it repeated it slowly a few more times, seeming to like the sound.

"Are there anymore of your kind around here?" Seth asked it. It shook it's head, and told him he was the only one. It looked upset at the question so he didn't bother to ask why.

"I found a cave not to far from here if you want a safe place to stay." he told it, and it looked surprised at the offer.

"With you?" it asked as it pointed at him.

"Sure, and I promise I wont hurt you." After a brief pause he said "I don't know about you but I'm still hungry." The creature looked scared for a minuet, until he gestured towards the dead animal on the ground.

Seth stood up, and Vor took a few nervous steps backwards. Vor was maybe only 5 feet tall, and Seth towered over him at 7 feet. Seth was still rather skinny himself, but the height difference was enough to make him nervous. He could tell by Vor's body language that he was definitely scared of him.

Seth hadn't talked to anyone other than himself for several months, and even though it was a talking reptile, he didn't want it to leave. Seth generally didn't like large crowds, and had been perfectly happy to sit in his room by himself playing video games, or doing whatever. He never realized how much he missed having someone to talk to, until he had been completely alone. He had to reassure Vor several more times that he wasn't going to eat him, and eventual he got him to sit, and finish eating.

They both ate in silence, until they had both had their fill. Seth finished first, and being that he was so close he couldn't help noticing that Vor was nothing but skin and bones. When Vor was done his stomach had stretched, and looked bloated from gorging on so much meat.

"You want to help me cut this thing up so I can take some back with me?" Seth asked and Vor agreed to help. They cut the remains into pieces large enough to carry. Seth slung the two rear legs over his shoulders, and Vor carried it's tail. He thought about coming back for more, but what he was carrying would be enough to last both of them for a few days, and shortly after that it would begin to spoil anyways.

Vor followed him as they walked along the edge of the river towards the cave. When they made it to the lake he pointed out the entrance to the cave high up in the rock wall. Seth flew up, and dropped off the two severed legs, and flew back, and picked up the tail from Vor. He waited at the entrance as Vor swam across the lake, and made the climbed up the cliff. The rock wall was covered with thick vines and clinging plants, which made Vor's climb easier. Even though Vor looked like a skeleton, he was still able to make the climb. Fortunately the cliff extended vertically out of the water so even if he did fall he would end up falling into the water, which at that spot was at least 20 feet deep.

"Well this is it," said Seth as he gestured at the cave they were standing in. Vor stopped, and took in his surroundings, then turned and looked back down at the lake.

"Your right this is a good spot," he said as he realized how difficult it would be for an animal to get in. "Nothing is going to try and get in here. I couldn't picture anything swimming across the lake, and climbing the cliff," said Vor as he stared down at the expanse of water below.

"Yeah, I thought the same thing, I guess that's why I'm still here," said Seth. "Come, let me show you the rest of it. It gets a lot bigger towards the back." Seth slung the two legs over his shoulder, and Vor picked up the tail, as he lead him towards the back of the cave.

When they reached the back they laid the severed legs and tail in a pit that had been worn into the stone floor. Vor walked around the huge cave which was as big as the gymnasium at Seth's high school.

After that first night Seth spent in the cave, he had decided the best way to get rid of the bugs was to get rid of the moss they lived in. He had used a long stick to scrape away much of the bug filled moss that covered the back section of the cave, exposing the stone floor. Fortunately it came off easily. The biggest problem had been getting rid of it after he scraped it off, but he had found a simple solution. He would pile the moss on a large leaf, then drag it to the entrance, and tossed it over.

Vor walked up to the opening at the back of the cave, that looked out at the smaller water fall and pool below. Vor spotted the sand filled hole covered with leaves, which was obviously where Seth had been sleeping.

"That's a good idea," said Vor as he pointed at the bed which Seth had made.

"Yeah I can help make one for you, if you want," said Seth. Vor stared at Seth for a minuet before he started walking around again. Vor walked over, and stood in one of the holes about 20 feet away from the one Seth had been using.

"What about this one?" asked Vor.

"Sure," said Seth. The sand in the hole Vor picked out was only a few inches deep. Seth left the cave, and came back carrying a few large leaves, which they used to transfer sand from other areas of the cave. It was slow work, but eventual they were able to get enough sand pilled into the pit to create a decent surface for him to sleep on. When they were done the sand was about 3 or 4 inches deep, and after that Seth gathered enough large leaves to cover the top. Vor laid down to tested it out, and looked pleased as it stretched out, and let itself relax.

They said very little to each other during the rest of the day. Vor would back away, or look away every time Seth got within twenty feet of him. It was obvious that Vor was torn between the instinct to flee, and the rational thought that Seth might improve his chance for survival.

Seth was never an expert with reptiles, and had learned, mostly from watching TV, that it was difficult to tell the sexes of reptiles apart. Seth wanted to ask Vor whether he was a male or female, but he didn't even know how start.

"I have never seen anything like you before," said Vor as he looked at Seth with a curious expression, finally breaking the silence. "Are you a male or female?" he asked.

Seth had been thinking about asking him that very same question, and was shocked when he heard it addressed to himself. For a second he found his question insulting, but then he remembered he was no longer human.

"I'm a male," said Seth with a nervous tone. "What about you?" asked Seth sounding even more nervous. Vor tiled his head, and looked like he was thinking about his answer, but Seth knew he was thinking about why he asked him.

"The same," he told him after a brief pause.

Seth had so many questions he wanted to ask him, but he decided it was best to leave him alone. He could tell that he was still scared of him, and he tried his best not to startle him. When they woke the next morning he had unintentionally scared Vor so badly that he almost fell backwards. For a brief instant Vor looked like a trapped animal trying to escape from danger, and he apologized several times for accidently scaring him.

Seth wasn't hungry, but Vor was, and he helped himself to some of the leftover meat. He would still make sudden nervous jerking movements whenever Seth would approach, even if he saw him coming. After Vor finished eating he told Seth he was going to go for a swim in the lake. Seth could tell he wanted to be alone from the hesitant and withdrawn way he had said it.

Seth was alone again, and he found he needed to have something to do to keep himself busy. There was still a lot of the bug filled moss that still needed to be scraped away, and he picked up his scraping stick, and got back to work scrapping away some more of the moss covering the cave floor.

With every scrape from his stick the bugs that were living in the moss would come crawling out. Most would run back into the moss that he hadn't scraped off yet, but others would go scurrying across the smooth stone floor. He wasn't scared of bugs, but he couldn't stand it whenever he would accidently step on one. Most of the bugs looked much like ones he would have found on Earth. Some were as big as a dime while others were as big as a dollar bill. He would cringe every time he would accidently step on one. The worst part was that he could hear, and feel, their crunchy bodies every time he steeped on one. He really hated it whenever he accidently stepped on one of the really big ones.

Seth continued to work as the morning dragged on. When he would get enough moss pilled up on one of the huge leaves he would take it to the cave entrance, and toss it into the lake. The moss floated, and the moving water carry most of it out of the lake, and down the river. Each time he would empty another load he would see Vor either swimming lazily, or sitting on a rock. After he tossed out his next pile of moss he didn't see Vor anywhere in the lake. He stopped, and looked around for him, but he was nowhere to be seen, and he had a feeling he was gone. He had been so excited at having someone to finally talk to, but now he felt a profound sense of loneliness that felt even worse than before. He turned, and went back to work trying to keep himself from thinking about it.

As the day was coming to an end Seth had gotten a lot more of the moss cleared away from the back of the cave. So far he had cleared away a radius of about a hundred feet from around his bed, which was only about half of the back section of the cave. As he helped himself to a before bed time snack he heard claws scraping on stone, and was glad to see that it was Vor. He had thought that he was gone for sure, but was relieved to see he had returned. He offered him some meat, and Vor helped himself to a few small bites.

When they woke the next morning they both finished off what meat they had left. Seth decided to give Vor some more time alone, and went out to hunt for more food. He had many opportunities for some easy kills throughout the day, but he waited until late in the day before making a kill. He returned about an hour before sunset, and was happy to find Vor hadn't left. He was even more surprised to find that he had spent the day scraping away more of the moss covering the cave floor. He wasn't able to get much done in his weakened condition, but he didn't even care, he was just glade he hadn't left.

When they woke the next morning Vor sat next to Seth while they had their breakfast. At first Vor thought he had made a terrible mistake. Even though this strange creature had feed him, and offered to give him a safe place to stay, away from the many predators which lived out in the jungle. He couldn't help feeling that Seth was going to kill him at any moment, but after having some time to think about it, he realized that leaving would have been a mistake. Seth was more than two feet taller than he was, and it made him jumpy, and he still couldn't help feeling nervous around him even though he was trying not to.

The two of them spent their third day together trying to remove the last of the bug infested moss from the rear section of their cave. Seth felt great having Vor working with him. They worked together in silence, until Vor finally worked through his fear of him, to ask Seth a question.

"Where do you come from?" he asked in a nervous tone. He asked the question casually without even looking away from the moss he was scraping.

"Well I'm actually human," he said with a pause, and a shrug of his shoulders. "Or at least I was once." Seth couldn't mistake the look of shock that came over Vor's reptilian face. Seth looked back towards the ground, and casually started to tell him his story as he went back to worked. He told him everything starting from when he first got pulled into this new world, and how he ended up the way he was.

"So you were transformed from a human into a dragon that's impossible," said Vor as he leaned against the stick in his hands. "You can't be transformed just by eating it. It just doesn't work that way," he said as he shook his head. "But you do look just like a dragon."

"Yeah, but I almost ate the entire thing, and trust me I didn't want to," said Seth as he remembered the experience.

"You said you got hit by lightning, right?"

"Yeah."

"And the dragon got hit by lighting at the same time?"

"Well I never actually seen it get hit, but it was burnt to a crisp when I found it on the ground. So it had to have gotten hit," Seth explained. And Vor thought about it for a few minuets before speaking again.

"The only thing I can think of is that the lightning hit the dragon first, and then that same bolt then struck you. When it did, it must have transferred some of the dragons life force to you some how. Of course it wouldn't have transferred the substance of it's body, otherwise you would have instantly become a dragon. So when you ate it, the dragons life force, which had been transferred into your body, began to recombine with it's own missing flesh, causing it to merge with your body." Vor was thinking out loud, and Seth didn't have a clue as to what he was talking about. He was glade when he changed the subject, and asked him about where he came from.

Seth started to tell him about Earth, and Vor was surprised when he told him that the world he came from was populated entirely by humans. Seth was confused when Vor asked him which God ruled there, and who had opened the portal from his world. He had to explain several times that the portal had opened by itself, and that humans ruled themselves. Vor asked him all sorts of question about Earth. He tried to tell him as best as he could, but Vor didn't have any idea of what he was talking about. He even got more confused when he started talking about technology.

"Don't you have people who use magic were you come from?" asked Vor with a puzzled look on his reptilian face.

"You mean like real magic. Like casting spells or making things appear out of thin air?" asked Seth thinking it was a ridicules question.

"Yes."

"Well no," said Seth. Vor could tell that Seth didn't think he was serious, and asked him the same question again, and he gave him the same answer.

Vor decided it would be easier to show him, rather than to try and explain. So he looked around, and picked up two small rocks. Seth watched as Vor held them in his hand. After a few minuets Vor opened his hand, and the two rocks had fused together. Seth's eyes lite up, and his jaw dropped as he saw what he did to the two rocks.

"Wow, how did you do that?" asked Seth with an excited yell.

"You don't have anyone on your world who can do things like that?" asked Vor, being as serious as he could be.

"No nothing. We don't have anyone who can do anything like that," said Seth still in shock.

"Can anyone at least levitate different objects?"

"No. My people dream about it, but we can't actually do it," said Seth. Vor stared off in the distance, and Seth could see he was deep in thought.

"So you don't have any magic in your world what so ever?" Vor asked one more time.

"No, none at all I swear," said Seth.

"Humm. Well my people use magic all the time, this is very strange. Maybe I should tell you a story that might help explain things," said Vor.

"Sure I think we have done enough scraping for today anyways," said Seth as he laid his stick on the ground, and he was more than happy to have someone to listen to. Vor laid his stick down, and Seth motioned for him to follow him, and sit down on his sand bed. Seth sat down, and crossed his legs, and wrapped his tale around himself. Vor walked over to the other end of Seth's bed, and sat down. Vor didn't know where to start or even how to explain something which he lived with all his life. He stopped, and gathered his thoughts before finally speaking again.

"Well my people, like most other people know how the universe came to be as it is right now. Or at least that's what the Gods have told us," he paused. "You see there are 13 planes of existence. Humm wait let me go back even further."

"In the every, every beginning there was only one universe. This universe was filled from one end to the other with a sea of nothing, but pure magical energy. One day a being somehow came into existence. Don't ask me how, know one knows, and I doubted it even knows itself. Anyways as time went by this one and only God eventual got bore with it's own existence. So one day it created another God from it's own energies. Except the new God wasn't like the one who created it. I say it, because they are neither male or female," Vor explained.

"The first God liked things to be calm and orderly, while the new God liked excitement and chaos. Eventual they ended up pissing each other off. When they could no longer stand sharing the same universe together they left, and created their own universes. So now what had once been 1 universe became 3 universes. But they were still close enough together, in cosmic terms, that they could still see and hear each other. Eventual the two Gods kept creating new universes until they were far enough apart that they could barely see or hear each other anymore. By the time they were finished they had created 13 different universes. You follow me so far?" asked Vor.

"Yeah so far."

"Well as time went by the 2 Gods got bored again, and they both created new Gods to keep themselves entertained. Each new God that they created was much less powerful than itself, and they lived in the planes of existence directly below themselves. Except this time the new Gods they created had the same personalities as themselves."

"For a time both sides were content until once again they grew bored. This time the new Gods that they had created, gave birth to Gods of their own. Their children eventual filling the planes of existence below them. This went on and on until there were millions of Gods living on the various planes of existence on both sides. As what happens with beings that live forever, they eventual grew bored again. In an effort to find something to keep themselves occupied they created simple life on various planets to keep themselves entertained."

"The Gods of order created races who were peaceful. While the Gods of chaos created warlike races. It is said that the great Gods, as well as the lesser Gods, can feel and experience the lives of the people living below them. Each side strives to experience their own preferred pleasures. In the case of the Gods of order who created my people, they enjoy the peaceful and orderly lives we live. Of course the Gods of chaos enjoy war, and battles, and destruction."

Seth thought about what he was saying, and he got the impression that the Gods used different races for nothing more than their own entertainment. It was like the universe was nothing more than one large TV or video game, and that everyone was nothing more than a character which they could watch or manipulate for their own amusement.

"How do you know this?" interrupted Seth.

"Well my race was created by a God who lived here once a every long time ago, he was the one who told us."

Vor stopped telling his story for a minuet while he thought about what to tell Seth next. "You see there was a God named Vol. He lived in a higher plane of existence from this one. His greatest power was the ability to shape shift into any, and all kinds of reptiles, both big and small."

"One day he had twins. He had a son he named Sogna, and a daughter named Sela. They both had the same shape shifting power, but his son could only change into reptilian predators, and his daughter could only change into the shape of plant eaters."

"Vol created our world as a gift to his children. When they came here their was nothing but wild animals everywhere. Sogna created my race, not in his own image, but merely as a predator like himself. His sister created another race like herself called the Sellga. My people are called the Vash by the way," explained Vor.

"So there are 2 races on this world?" asked Seth.

"Yes, and we both live and work together. We actually would have a hard time getting along without each other," said Vor.

The idea of sharing a world with a completely different species seemed incredible to Seth. Especially if one race was a predator, and the other was a herbivore.

"How do you get along? How do you live together? What are they like?" asked Seth. It was a lot of questions rolled into one and Vor didn't know where to start, and had to think for a minuet before answering.

"Well first they are mostly like my people. Except they don't eat meat of course, and don't have sharp teeth or claws. As far as how we live together, we live in large groups, in huge stone buildings which are more like fortresses. Unlike the humans who prefer to build a house for each family," said Vor with a shake of his head.

"Sometimes as many as several thousand of us will live in a single building. Sometimes we will get in fights with each other, but it doesn't happen very often, and its almost never fatal." said Vor with a shrug of his shoulders.

Seth thought about what he had just said, and the word "human" stuck out in his mind. He forgot to ask him how he knew how to speak his language until Vor made a reference to other humans.

"Are there other humans on this world?" asked Seth, and a sad look came over Vor's face, and he gave a sigh.

"Yes there are, that's a long story as well," said Vor with a yawn.

Seth had been so focused on what Vor had been telling him that he never even noticed that the sun had gone down over the mountains. Seth didn't feel tired, but he could tell that Vor was worn out from scraping moss all day.

"Yeah, you look tired, how about you tell me in the morning," said Seth. Vor gave another yawn and got up.

"Yeah I am feeling tired, but first I need a drink of water, and I need to wash the bug guts off my feet," said Vor as he got up.

Seth got up as well, and they both sat in the small privet pool until they could see the stars in the sky. Seth had to wake Vor up, who had fallen asleep siting under the waterfall. Seth was as gentle as he could be, but he still startled Vor when he gave him a poke to wake him up. Vor apologized for being so jumpy, and thanked him for waking him up. They made the short climb back up to the cave together and Vor was asleep as soon as he laid down.
