What once Was... Chapter 2

"R.C.!!!" R.C. hears his name called and turns around seeing a group of raver furs walking out waving. He gasps as he feels his cell phone vibrate. Pulling his Nokia out, he notices it is 6:00 am, time to get going as he works at 8am. His alarm is set so he knows to leave and grab breakfast with his crew at the usual hangout spot in Squirrel Hill and have plenty of time to get to work at Furrywood.

The three pay the booth the parking toll and make their way up towards Squirrel Hill. R.C. just drives with a blank look on his face most of the time. His mind was attempting to figure out what happened earlier and who the random fur he was cuddling with. His mind was racing rapidly as the drug effects wore off. He looks in his mirror to see Sharlee curled up, next to him Joey 3 had his CD walkman on blasting some random music which sounded like The Prodigy. The fox pounds his semi working car radio after making a shift and one speaker kicks in with the local radio station which is broadcasting a local church service. R.C. then slaps his tape adaptor in and presses play on his Mini-Disc player which contains recordings from Groove. Cursing his radio, he turns it off not wanting any part of anything right now.

Arriving in town, he immediately spots on-street parking which is usually a common sight as the vast majority of the town's residents are of Jewish faith. "Wake up guys, time to eat." the fox says getting out and approaching the restaurant. The three walk through the doors to the counter and are greeted by Josh a young pup who immediately recognizes the trio.

"Hey guys, usual table again, hun?" The pup says to R.C. "Yeah and usual drinks, please." He replies back as the three are escorted to their usual corner table. The fox pulls out his paperwork as he usually does each week for planning his future events. Joey 3 sits down and reads the menu next to Sharlee who simply just leans on Joey 3 looking really tired. R.C. looks at the two and finally speaks.

"Ok, so I have a question. Do you two know who the water vendor was? I think there was something in there because I drank that and had some weird experience. I think it was ecstasy."

Joey 3 chimes in, "Yeah, I think it was based on how you were acting there! Hehe I can't wait to tell my friends about what you did."

R.C. turns red, "What did I do? Who was I with? Oh my dear, is it something that can come back to bite me?" The fox frantically spits out. Joey 3 just smiles and giggles. "Three, you better tell me what I was doing and who I was with...I have to know this stuff man!"

"I did take pictures, wanna see?" Joey 3 says pulling out his camera. He turns it on to get to the preview screen, but the camera dies. "Oh piss ants, batteries are dead!"

Hearing this, the fox hides his face blushing and unsure of what to think of the unknown that took place earlier. "Now I really am lost. I guess I admit that drug was really nice, but I would like to remember what happened?"

Joey 3 simply smiles and laughs, "R.C. I knew you were the whole time. I didn't realize you were on a drug though, but I think you two would make a cute couple."

"Wait. Stop right there, couple? Who would make a cute couple?" the fox replies with concern.

Sharlee chimes in, "Well I didn't see much. I saw my friends as usual and R.C. just came over and hung with us." She says winking at the fox without the panther noticing.

"Ok, I'm still confused. What happened and why are you being so secretive?" R.C. asks frustratingly.

"R.C., I'm kind of afraid to tell you what you did. You would not like yourself and I'm afraid that you might do something none of us, including yourself, would want to do." Joey tells the visibly agitated fox.

R.C. calms down a bit and appears to be deep in thought. "Well, if you put it that way...I probably should just let it go as a onetime thing. Oh well, I'm starving, I have to work today."

The three order their food and eat down quickly. R.C. pays the bill and then heads out to take his crew back home on a bustling Sunday morning.

After R.C. drops his friends off, he makes his way to the amusement park along his favorite route which is known the locals as the "brake challenge" route. This route requires drivers to maintain a speed without using the brakes until the end where there is a red light. Along this route, R.C. spends it thinking about how his life and other things that have been bothering him such as his lack of love life. His most recent ex girlfriend keeps popping up in his head. He thinks to himself, "What is it with the girls? I like them, but they never want to stay with me. What is it about me? Ugh..." The continuous thoughts mess with the teenaged fox's mind the entire distance to the park.

R.C. pulls into the shopping center parking lot and takes his usual parking spot. He grabs his backpack with his work outfit and applies his name badge so he can get in. The fox looks up and smiles knowing he'll have a great day at work today.

On break, the fox normally walks around the park just taking in the sights, but normally Sundays he actually goes to the employee café to eat. There he grabs his lunch and sits alone as usual. He pulls out his Nokia and notices a few texts. One of the messages is from Joey 3, a couple from others he knows, and one from a local number that he doesn't remember. The fox pulls open the message and it reads, "Hey foxie, youre cute. Can I call you later?" The Fox immediately texts Joey 3 and asks him if he gave anyone R.C.'s number. R.C. then thinks to himself a few options and weights the situation. One side of him thinks this is another girl that's out to get with the fox; the other side weighs that he should reply and get lucky with a match. Then he realizes Joey's statement earlier, "Could it be true? That I really would..." the thought flood his mind and then he realizes he's due back to work in 3 min. He sees a text from Joey 3 which reads, "hey u, I didn't give anyone yr number bro, I think u did". He puts his phone back and then decides he should text the number later and find out who it is.

At the end of his shift at about 6:30 PM, he leaves the park and immediately gets on his Nokia phone. He then texts the random number a reply. "hey this is rc fox who r u?" and sends it. A sigh of relief can be heard as he sends the text and continues on his merry way to his car. Along the way, he texts Joey 3 and a couple others that he did text the mystery number. Unknowingly to R.C., three does know exactly who the mystery fur is texting that one now everything they need to know.

The fox makes it home and heads up to his room to change in efforts to head out to meet a few friends for dinner. The phone beeps indicating a reply. He looks at it and sees it is the same number as before. It says, "I would prefer u call me and we can talk about this. It might be easier to digest". Confused, the fox showers and changes quickly and heads out to C3 mall area for dinner.

He arrives at Denny's and realizes he is quite early. So he decides to call the mystery number. He hesitates a few moments before pressing send. He presses send and closes his eyes as he moves the phone to his head. It rings once...then twice. His pulse picks up and he starts to shake a little. The third ring occurs and then the fourth ring. R.C. breaths rapidly and then sighs as the generic voicemail message prompt greets his ear. He then presses the end button. "What am I doing?" he says out loud to himself. "This is just another girl R.C., she probably wants a date." He slumps back in his seat and stares at the rear view mirror.

A few moments later, his phone rings to the beeping sounds of Adrima. He sees it's the number again. Once more, his pulse starts to pick up and he grabs the phone. He answers it and moves it to his ear. "He-hello?" the fox stutters. "Hi foxy!" the voice on the other line, "you remember me at all?" R.C. freezes in place shaking rapidly from nerves. "Um give-me a few ...please." R.C. replies. He breathes deeply trying to calm down. He then moves the phone back up to his face and replies, "Ok Hello?"

END

Who is on the other end of the line that has R.C. really nervous? Why does Joey 3 hide information from R.C. Fox? What's the next step in this conversation?
