Gifts, Curses, Blessings
With many abuzz with Angelina Jolie's upcoming appearance as the evil Maleficent, here's a poem inspired by the original Sleeping Beauty tale by Charles Perrault. It's also a snippet to a possible story series I might make, after I finish the school year and watch Wicked. I would title the story series Dormant Waters.
Gifts, Curses, BlessingsAunt Humility:I wish to give you beautyThat's seen from the inside.Acceptance is your dutyYou'll have nothing to hide.Aunt Olivia:I wish to give you witTo spread everywhere.Make the mindless quit,You'll be fair and square.Aunt Charity:I wish to give you graceFor your talents to make. With your charming faceMany hearts will break.Aunt Terpsichore:I wish to give you dance;Be light on your own feet.Critics won't stand a chanceAs you waltz your way to Crete.Aunts Mona and Lisa:We give to you song and musicTo play notes high and low.You will become majesticTo the envious ApolloAunt Delphine:I wish to give you a bedBut receiving it is a trick. In time you shall be dead!Because of a simple prick.Aunt Hope:I wish to give you sleep. You shall not die.Your rest will be deepAs time passes by.
