This is my very first story, and I would like it if you wouldn't mind giving me comments and constructive criticism at the bottom. All responses are welcome, fully appreciated, and will be taken into consideration for my next story. And you can reach me by email if you have any ideas or suggestions you would like to tell me, I'm at [email protected] And now that we have finished with the formalities, just enjoy the story that I have created for you, the loyal reader. I hope that the tale I have weaved will keep you on the edge of your seats be it for suspense, or for....other reasons. (hint hint....wink wink) This story is dedicated to one of my best friends Soul Hunter. I wish you only the best and that Jason, who was tragically taken from us, will be missed terribly. I only hope that you will be able find a sense of peace at some point, for I'm sure that's what he would have wanted. Please always keep a smile and that sparkle that has touched so many. And to all my other friends who gave me the courage to do this...you know who you are. Sincerely an enthusiastic writer, Cyan Spirt p.s. This part is actually a continuation to the first part of my story and I apologize for not including it in the premire chapter. But my computer had a bit of a virus problem and I thought I had lost it, so I decided to post chaper one not as planned. Yet thankfully, I had put it on a backup disk and instead of redoing part one, I simply added on an extention...so without furter delay...I give you the next part. Thank you for understanding.

  • * * After viewing the details of the wood work and the craftsmanship of the railings for sometime, Maxi gave off a little sigh as he shifted the car into reverse and looked behind him to make sure there was no one coming. "Come on Jason....we can't afford this place...maybe there is a cheaper place down the road.." as he turned the car back on and was in the middle of adjusting his mirrors as he placed his boot on the gas. The canine looked pleadingly over at the driver as he whimpered from being cramped up in the seat for so long and now being so close to relaxation, but having it torn from his grasp. "Please Maxi, I don't know how much longer I can go on tonight...can we at least try before you give up on this place. Look..." he pointed to the lighted windows on the far side of the building, "seems someone is awake, here...let me get going..." And with that he unbuckled his seat belt with a small grunt as he jiggled the car door handle again. As he pushed the door open, he lost his balance and tumbled out of the car with a small "Eeep!" The driver quickly busted from his side of the car as he ran around the car and squatted down to brush the dust and dirt from the face of his passenger. He then slipped his paws underneath the fallen form as he lifted him up with a small struggle and set him down in his seat. He quickly strapped him in to prevent another tumble as he gave the curly fur of the dog's cheek a quick kiss and turned to face the lighted area. "Stay there Jason, I'll go in and see if we can get a room here. Besides...well, you know how they treat ummm...your kind here. I think I could do better anyways." As he set off at a steady pace towards the busted door of the office. He didn't even give a second glace backwards as he wiped the small tears from his cheek and tossed them to the gray gravel below. Jason could barely nod fast enough as he watched his friend, his companion, his....and with that his thoughts were interrupted as he watched him pass through the large door at the far end. He merely mumbled to himself as he stared on and waited for Maxi to return, "have faith." As soon as Maxi stepped through the door he was hit with a instant brightness of the fluorescent bulbs that hung above his head on rusty holders that wavered back and forth with each small gust of wind. His nose scrunched up as he took in the stench of the rotted wood, sweat, and what only could be described as food long past its expiration date. His eyes traveled over the distraught wood that made up the small office, the dilapidated sign-in book that sat on the counter, and the small bell rusted far beyond its years. He heard shuffling from the far back of the room as he peered through the dank air and saw the shine of large teeth bearing down on him. His ears lowered to the side of his head as the large male came into view under the shine of the lamp. For there, towering in front of him, was the largest bear he had ever laid eyes on. The huge grizzly wore a shredded stripped vest and a pair of stained sweatpants. He leaned over the counter that threatened to collapse under his massive weight as he pointed to the remains of the book and spoke in a gruff and deep voice. "Sign in..." Maxi quickly nodded, not wanting to have a fight with the overly muscular manager. But as he maneuvered over to the book, he saw that there were no writing utensils available and looked back over to the bear as he spoke in the calmest voice he could manage, not wanting his fear to show through. "Ex-Excuse me, but there no pen here or anything how am I supos..." as he was interrupted by the pen being tossed at his head. He ducked behind the counter that was being used as food for termites as the pen fell to the floor next to him. He hesitantly reached out as he took it in his paw and slowly stood up, only to come face to face with the large ursine. Maxi instantly smelled the males musk as he stared back into his eyes. He viewed the cold black eyes like obsidian as he shakily put his pen on the paper and began to scribble his name. Once he finished he pushed the ledger back to the bear as he politely talked as best he could manage, "so ummm...Mr...." as he looked for the proper phrase to call him. The large owner stared at him as he scrunched up his face before replying, "Bubba...none of this 'Mr.' crap, just Bubba.." as he turned the ledger around and carefully analyzed the writing. He didn't even look up, then again he never had to since he could tell Maxi was far to tired and nervous to do anything criminal. Maxi gulped as he nodded and continued to talk, "alright Bubba...how much is a room here in your fine establishment?" he felt that being overly polite to a fault might find some soft place in the curator's heart. He fished around in his pocket for the flea-ridden wallet and the couple crumpled bills as he smoothed them in his paws before getting prepared to count them. Bubba merely scoffs at the attempt at flattery as he growled a bit before leaning over the counter and got right into his face as he spoke quite firmly. "30 bucks a night...no negotiating." As he turned to stare down at the ledger in front of him. He mumbled a bit as he read the writing, before stopping suddenly and looking up as he glared around the office for another sign of life. "You wrote that you have two occupants...so where in the hell is your friend?" He even twirled around him just to make sure no sly thief was planning on sneaking up behind him. The smaller male slowly motioned to the vehicle that sat quietly in the parking lot of the building. The lights from the front of the rooms illuminated the occupant who sat patiently in his seat gazing over at them through the glass of the window. Bubba took a double take as he squinted his eyes to see better before he then looked back at Maxi as if trying to connect something in his head. "I don't serve those mongrels in here....he can sleep outside." As he laughed gruffly. Maxi winced as he heard the insult and stifled his urge to lash out at the bear, since he knew full well he could never take him on and win. Not to mention that he knew Jason could not last must longer in his current situation and this was their only hope for a nice warm bed. He looked pleadingly up at the ursine as he let his ears fall submissively to the side of his head. "Please sir...I mean Bubba, he is my...my..." not wanting to revel another reason to kick him out, he had to think fast. Bubba sneered a bit as he stared deep into the frightened males eyes as he scrunched up his muzzle. "He's your what?" he says loudly as he can see through the window, the canines ears perk up and turn towards the small building. With his left paw he slowly lowers it under the counter to grasp at a shopkeeper's best friend, and he planned to use it if he was given proper reason to. Maxi began to panic a bit as he struggled to come up with a proper lie that he might believe. Finally he spewed forth a small lie, that was actually more of the truth then he hoped to give. "He's my bodyguard and he saved me from an attack. Please, I beg of you to make one exception and allow him use of your facility. For you see he is injured and needs a place to rest." He then took a big breath to calm himself down as he wiped the perspiration from his forehead. The large male rears back as he runs a paw under his muzzle and rubbed the thick brown fur and mumbled a bit to himself. Finally after a couple of tense full minutes he spoke, "55 bucks for the both of you, and not a cent less." As he turned around to the side wall of the booth and looked over the remaining keys that hung on small hooks. He grumbled a bit as he reached out and pulled one off, stifling any clinking of the metal as he dangled it in the face of the other. He then placed his other paw on the counter, palm up as he motioned to Maxi to get a move on. Maxi became a bit shocked before he started to nod rapidly and repeated "thank you" over and over again as he begin to count out the money, knowing full well what Bubba wanted in his other paw. He pulled the dusty bills from the torn wallet and stacked them up with the crumpled ones in his pocket. His paws then worked quickly to count the proper amount before placing the currency into the bear's paws and reaching for the outstretched key. While his other paw stuffed the few remaining scraps of paper back into his pocket. Bubba grunted a bit as he allowed the male to grasp at the key and take the small piece of metal in his paws and covet it like priceless treasure. He spoke quickly as he saw Maxi bolt for the door, "Room 24 and check out is at 11:00 unless you plan on paying for another night." And with that, the he was gone as the door slammed behind him. Bubba only stood there a moment longer watching through the window as he settled back in his seat and turned his attention back to a phone book. Maxi sprinted back across the dismal and barren parking lot with the last of his energy as he wanted to relate the news to Jason as quickly as his legs could carry him. He could hear his footsteps echo on the gravel below him as he felt the crisp night air rush against his fur. His tail wagged excitably behind him as he finally reached the car door and taped on the widow to alert the occupant of his presence. As the lock popped free the wrenched open the door and stuck his face in as he took his seat, "guess what....we have a room for the night." The umber colored canine raises his head as he stared into the others face before nodding slowly and giving a weak smile. He gently ran a paw over the key to the room as he placed it on Maxi's shoulder. "So...how much did it cost? I told you we could afford it." As he tilts his head as begins to breathe a tad heavily from his amount of fatigue. Maxi started the car as he looked at the door numbers in front of him to tell where his room would be. He kept quite after Jason's question as he moved the car into reverse and pulled room their spot as he kept aware of what number room was always closest to them. "55 dollars.." he finally said as he pulled into the closest spot to their room on the third story. Jason instantly sensed an uneasiness about his friend as he watched him put the buggy into park and just sit there silently. "That's outrageous! He raised the rates because of me...didn't he? Called me a mutt, a blasted hound, a..." his voice getting as loud as he could make it. "a dirty ass sniffing bastard!" In a low voice, Maxi replied, "Mongrel...he called you a mongrel." as he placed a paw on the other's shoulder. "But I would have paid his price no matter how high to sleep by your side. I was not going to let you sleep outside in the chilly night air, especially in your current condition." As he unbuckled his seat belt and took the keys from the engine. The fatigued and injured passenger decided to stifle his anger for the unjust payment and the racism, all because he was a dog. He hated those people who used a person's species to judge them, and being that this was feline country , things only got worse at every step of the way. And on top of that, his current company certainly didn't make the insults any easier to bear. He had hoped to keep the hate hidden from his friend, not wanting to expose him to such things, but alas, he couldn't keep him ignorant forever. Jason slipped his paw down between the seats slowly as he too unbuckled himself from the vehicle and struggled to open the car door on his side before he was stopped by an outstretched paw. Maxi pulled the other's fingers from the latch as he opened his door and slowly got out, taking both sets of keys with him. "You remember what happened last time you tried to get out by yourself. Come on partner...let's do this nice and slow...together." By the time he was finished speaking he was at the opposite side of the car as he gently unlocked the door and braced himself for the falling male. For as soon as he opened the door he was forced to hold up the canine as he reached around and hoisted him from his seat. The curly furred dog staggered to his feet as he tried to keep his balance on the uneven footing. Not to mention the wounds on his legs making ever more painful to move his body along. He maneuvered to a wall with the help of the other's arms as he leaned against it and spoke in his raspy voice. "Thanks...now go close the door, I'll wait here..." as he watched the other tromp away back to their car. Hesitantly Maxi left the wounded dog against the wall as he walked back briskly and locked the doors to make sure that their one thing of value, no matter how menial it was, was not stolen from them. But before he went back for his friend he looked around the find a sign for an elevator, seeing none he let out a low humph as his feet carried him back to his friend. "I'm so sorry...there are no elevators. Do you think you can walk up the two flights of stairs to get to our room if I help you?" Slowly Jason nodded as he braced his back against the stucco wall and outstretched his paw to try and grasp at his friends shoulder. He began to cough as the cold air had started to take it's toll on his already heavily burdened body. "Yes...with your help...I can do anything. I lo.." as he becomes interrupted by another fit of coughing. He can feel the trickle of blood reemerge from his muzzle as he was powerless to hide it this time. He only looked down at the ground as he could feel the stare of the others worrisome eyes. Maxi watched on in disbelief as he shuddered in silence for what he saw. Slowly he pulled the dog from the wall into his arms as he looked up into his eyes and raised a paw to gently run his fingers through his tangled and matted hair. Slowly he lowered his pads as he hesitated before running them across his lips, making sure to avoid the rope burns as he wiped the blood from his fur. "How...how long has this been going on?....Why didn't you tell me the extent of your condition?" Jason was forced to peer down into his friend's eyes as he wished he could see anything else but the face of someone he hurt. He was too weak to break free from the embrace as he let his tail slowly curl around his side and slid between the two. "Since we started on our drive...I didn't want to tell you because I knew how you would react, and you already had too much on your mind...and I knew this wouldn't help." As he gave another small cough which resulted, like all the others, in a small spurt of blood to fly from his lips. Maxi leans in close to the larger male as he rests his head against his chest to hear the canine's heart beating rhythmically. He looked up again as he licked Jason on the side of his neck as it was the only place he could see that was not heavily injured. "But you know I..." as he felt the strong gust of wind cut right through him. He felt Jason shiver from the gale as he pulled himself closer to use his body heat as a way of keeping the other as comfortable as possible. "Come on my love...let's get you into a safe place." As he begun to guide him to the nearest staircase on his right. Instantly, Jason's body was filled with both the bare cold of the harsh wind of nature, and the warmness from the body heat of the smaller male next to him. He latched closer and crouched down to rest his head upon Maxi's shoulder as he shuffled along the concrete until he felt the first step against his shin. He followed the other's lead as he stepped with him in perfect timing. His breathes came heavily as all the factors of his journey were taking tolls on both his physical and mental performance. When at last he reached the top of the first set of stairs he had to rest against the banister to try and lower his heart rate. "Thank you...for everything. You are the only one here who would stand by me for this long." Even though it was night, even though it was cold enough to see his breath, and even though they were only dimly lit at best, Maxi blushed. He leaned against the railing as well as he raised a paw to his own cheek and felt the warmth from the added blood flow. His muzzle worked its way into a wide grin even though he wasn't sure if Jason could see it all. For slowly he leaned over until he pressed his lips against the dog's, and at that moment it was only them. The air seemed to dissipate around them as they only had eyes for each other until Maxi pulled back and wrapped an arm tenderly over his shoulder. "Only one more flight of stairs...lets get going." Jason's face remained stunned for a few moments afterwards, half from the cold and half from the tingling sensation of the kiss. Finally he nodded slowly and leaned against him to support his weight as the higher altitude just made the wind that much colder. Once he got up on the stairs, he begun moving his boots without thought as he ran his other paw along the rail to keep his balance. But in his lapse of attention, he only got the tip of his toes over the lip of the step as he felt himself going down. He let out a sudden, "oh my god..." as he felt himself tip over and got a glimpse of the stone staircase below that his head would soon come in contact with. Arms shot from the opposite side of the stair case as Maxi struggled to hold up the off balance dog. He gave off a few grunts as he used his back to push the other back to a level footing. His tail wrapped around Jason's waist in an attempt to apply even more leverage to restrain him from giving into gravity's will and plunging down to the bottom of the stairwell. "I've got you...I'm not letting you fall again." His voice rattling from the energy that he was exerting to propel his friend the rest of the way to the top. Upon reaching the third floor landing he carefully sat Jason down on the wood floor as he took his seat next to him and let out an exhausted sigh. "You were right...together we can do anything.." as he leaned into him, fidgeting with the room key. Jason watches the metallic key swivel about on the other's fingers as the metal reflected the sparse light from the lanterns outside. And despite his lack of energy and his physical condition, he managed to place an arm on the other's shoulder and pulled him against his side. His tail stuck through the bars in the back as it waged ever so slightly in joyous respite. But after a few minutes of having the bare elements rush against his fur, he was forced to shudder and cough. "I...need to get warm, I can't last much longer out here." His paw then moved over the spinning key as he topped the movement and stared deep into his lover's eyes. They stared at each other for a few more seconds as Maxi's cheeks got ever redder before he slowly nodded. He pushes himself off the ground as he looked to the door behind him, "well...this is room 20, so our room must be pretty close, do you want me to go ahead and unlock it then come back for you, or take you with me now?" as he strolled back to where the canine lay, propped up to the splintered banister. Jason stared up at the smaller male now towering over him as he tried his best to reach out with his right paw, using his left to lift himself from the floor. "Please...don't leave me, I don't want to be alone after what happened yesterday. Take me with you...please." A sudden gush of cold night air rushes past them both as the canine lowers his paw to hug his tattered shirt around his torso in a desperate attempt to remain warm. Maxi nodded as he leaned over and placed his paws around the dog's form as he lifted him from his position. His fingers ran through the deep, thick curls as he helped him up to lean next to him. "I would never leave you, not after what you did for me at the..." as the other placed fingers over his muzzle to silence him. Slowly he nodded as he began to make his trek the four doors down, which seemed to be miles of road at the rate they were going. He stole one quick glance over the side of the railing as he could easily make out his rusted car from up there. His eyes, now well adjusted to the limited light, could even stare into the office as he made out Bubba sitting on his ass. He thought he could see him periodically staring back up at him before going back to looking blankly at the walls. Finally they both made to the right door as they stood a few moments in front of it as though they were being called to answer a cosmic mission. The shiny brass numbers stood out in the shallow light against the deep red and green colored door. Though the wood itself seemed splintered and in need of repairs, in fact, it looked as though someone had messed with the locking apparatus. Jason released himself from Maxi's embrace as he rested against the wall next to the door. He tried to peer in through the window, but found the interior blinds pulled closed and just waited. "well...here we are...home sweet home...for tonight at least." Overcome with the sight of the door in front of him, Maxi let out a small sigh as he slipped the key into the lock. He struggled to turn it in its slot until he heard the comforting sound of the click of the tumblers. His paw then moved to turn the door handle as he felt it resist his action and decided not to budge. He felt his anger rising as he made one swift move to get out of this cold air. Before Jason could say anything, he had gotten a running start and forced his shoulder against the door, which buckled under the force and came unglued as it swung open with a thud. He recovered his breath and rubbed his arm as he smiled and took Jason by the paw as he led him inside to the dark room. "well...our night's finally over. Now we can get some much needed rest." Jason let out a loud gasp as he felt the warm air of the room roll over his weakened form. His ears picked up the sound of the door closing as the room was still showered in darkness. Slowly his finger traveled over the nearby wall as he searched for the light switch, which he found nearby. As he flicked the small lever he heard the sound of movement above, though still no lights. He then chuckled slightly, his laughter filling the room as he leaned against the smaller male. "Guess I found the fan, maybe the lights are by you. I want to see this place that we can call our own for the night." Maxi nods in the darkness as he searched the wall on his side of room, where he found the switch and flicked it. The light above flickered for a few seconds before recovering and shown a constant aura of illumination around the sparsely filled room. For it seemed the creator of this place had a sense of humor when he named the place The Split Infinity, since it looked like a completely different place inside. From the entrance way he could see down the small corridor to the edge of the beds in the large room ahead. The ratty wallpaper that depicted small flowers was peeling from the wall to revel stained and ripped wall underneath. He slowly turned to the canine as his face showed one of utter lackluster at their soundings. "I'm sorry...but I hope you don't mind about the ro.." for that was all he got out before he was pulled into a kiss. Jason didn't even care to look around the room as for as soon as he was able to see he stared directly at the other male, waiting for his chance to strike. He had simply leaned over, and do to his height, had been at the exact level to push his lips against the other. He held himself against Maxi's face until he felt the need to breath a slowly had removed himself from his mouth. His cheeks were flushed as he leaned back against the wall behind to support him as he spoke. "Maximillion Cordero, I love you. I can't thank you enough for everything." Tears were slowly making their way down his furry cheeks to land on the stained and dirt covered carpet. Slowly Maxi moved over to the form of the canine laying with his back towards the wall and placed each paw on either side of his head. He lowered his muzzle to gently brush against the other's lips as he kissed him back, his lips parted slightly. His tongue slipping gently from his own muzzle to run along the lips of the dog before being granted access. He could feel the other's paws brushing the side of his head as his tail flittered around in the warm circulating air. The tongues did a small dance of rejoicing in Jason's muzzle as he pulled himself back and slipped his paws around the other, pulling the dog from the wall. "I love you too Jason Weiss, and nothing will change that, now come and finally rest your head." As he led him down the small hallway and into the main room. Their eyes adjusted to their new living quarters for the time being as they stared around the room in interest. There was a small door in the back of the room that led to the bathroom from the main room where two large beds were situated. Each one having a rotten comforter along with moth eaten blankets draped over the top. They carefully avoided the many wet spots of carpet, were there was carpet at least for the bare wooden floor showed though in spotted portions. The fan above was on the verge of loosing the battle with gravity and come crashing down to the floor as they finally reached the edge of the bed. The scent of whoever was in here last was still heavily prevalent in the air as each one gagged a bit. Jason slowly sat down on his side of the bed and looked back up at the male looking down at him as he yawned slightly. "I can barely keep my eyes open...and the room's not that bad once you get used to it. But don't worry, I'll be out like a light.." Maxi simply nodded as he lowered himself and begun unlacing the other's shoes as he pulled them from his tired legs. He noticed that Jason was wearing no socks, which was unusual for him, and could see the cuts from walking barefoot for some time. His claws had been cut back to where there was barely a stub of a nail, his fur was matted and sticky here as well which made a tad bit of since; since he had probably walked through some nasty substance. He gently used his finger to pluck out small chunks of gravel and glass from each footpaw before lifting the legs onto the bed. He slid them under the ratty old blankets as he gently eased the brown canine back on to the bed. He then pulled the blankets high against his chin and tucked the dog in as he sat on the edge, gently petting his head, making sure not to aggravate his wounds. "Sleep tight my love...I'll be in the bathroom washing up, so just call me if you need anything, alright?" Only the canine's paws and head were visible above the rim of the blanket as he nodded. "Alright Maxi, take your time and I'll be laying here until you get back. Can you just turn of the lamps though? I think I might end up falling asleep before you return." As he motioned with a finger to the large and distraught end table where the cracked lamp sat, casting a dismal shadow on everything in the room. The other merely grinned as he reached over and turned the knob as the bulb went dim. He then leaned over the bed and kissed the dog goodnight on the forehead as Jason watched him trot off to the bathroom on the far side and close the door so only a small crack of light escaped. Maxi turned the bathroom light on as soon as he entered and beheld his own reflection in the cracked and somewhat foggy bathroom mirror. Staring back at him was the face and body that had caused such animosity, being friends with a dog and all, for he looked into the eyes of a feline. But not just any feline was he, he ran his golden yellow paws over his lush but now damp mane as he felt his whiskers react. He yawned a bit with a small mew as he turned back to make sure he hadn't disturbed Jason. His small yellow ears perched on his head wiggled a bit as he saw a fly zoom along around the enclosed room. He instantly began to paw at it as he tried to swipe it away from him, using his tail when needed. Once the visitor had gone he stared back into the reflection of a boy, a child, as he talked under his breath. "Who would have guessed that I would fall in love with a dog, me....a lion of all things...king of the jungle and leader of all felines..." as he giggles a bit, showing his small fangs. * * * Well, my loyal readers, I promice you that I'm just getting into the swing of things, which explains why there aren't any...shall we say dirty scenes. But I promice you that the next chapter will deliver onto you exactly what you are looking for. So I hope that you will continue reading, and as I said, you shall be rewarded with exactly what you want.
