Kellan was an 11 year old wolf. He had grey fur on the majority of his body, and white fur from the lower part of his muzzle, on most of his chest, down onto his upper legs and the tip of his tail. He was average height for his age, but was under-weight and scrawny. He usually kept to himself when he was at school; he only ever talked with his close friends.
He sat in his chair with his head resting on the desk starring at the white board in front of him, completely oblivious to the things around him in the class room. He heard someone calling his name several times, but ignored it. He was daydreaming, until someone snapped their fingers in font his face, bringing him out of his dream.
"Kellan!" He looked up to see his history teacher, Mr. Web. The tall brown German shepherd stood in front of him, looking down over the top of his glasses with his arms crossed.
"Yeah?" Kellan asked, causing most of the class to break into quiet giggles. His ears perked up, now at attention.
"What is the answer to the question?" Kellan heard Mr. Web's foot tapping, awaiting his response. Suddenly, he began to panic for he hadn't paid any attention to the lesson.
"I don't know." He stated flatly. The class began laughing out loud now. He looked down at his desk, now embarrassed.
The large dog sighed. "Of course you don't know, you weren't paying attention." The bell rang; there was only one class to go, until he could finally go home. He picked up his backpack, put it on, and headed for the door. "Kellan, wait." His teacher stopped him. Kellan turned to face him. "I want to see you after school, but don't worry you're not in trouble." He stated. Kellan sighed and nodded his head. Dropping his ears, he walked out of the classroom and down the hall to the gym, just in time for P.E.
He opened the door to the gym and walked in, quickly crossing the floor to get to the locker room. His school required that students in the 5th and 6th grade dress-out for physical education. Kellan was in the fifth grade, having only one more year, for his school only went to sixth.
The locker room was full of activity, people coming and leaving made it hard for him to get to his locker. Eventually, making it to his locker, he put in his combination and opened it. He pulled off his shirt and put on his t-shirt. Then he unbuttoned and unzipped his pants, letting them drop to the ground, revealing the white briefs he wore underneath. He searched his locker and found his gym shorts, stepped into them and pulled them up, fitting his tail into them. He had no problem changing in front of others; he wouldn't even mind being seen completely naked. They had showers, but they weren't mandatory.
He picked his shoes back up and shut his locker. Walking over to a nearby bench, he sat down to put them on and tied them. He looked around the locker room for his best friend, Dante. They first met on the first day of pre-school, and they had been friends ever since. The two didn't consider themselves friends though, they considered each other brothers. They were defiantly close enough to be brothers, they did everything together. They even convinced some of their teachers that they were brothers. They usually slept over at each others houses, and loved and cared for each other like brothers.
"Hey Kellan!" Dante yelled. He was standing in the doorway that led into the gym. Kellan smiled and ran to meet him. They walked to their teacher's attendance area, and sat on their roll-call numbers. The last kid hurried over to her number. She sat down just as their PE teacher walked into the gym, and started to take roll.
"Allen?"
"Here."
"Anderson?"
"Here." He went on down the list of names.
"Wilkins." Dante raised his hand and stated he was there.
"Wulf." Kellan did the same. Their teacher sent them all off to play basketball. They divided themselves into four different teams. Kellan was on Dante's team. He wasn't great at basketball, but nor was he bad. Dante was one of the best players in the school, but he didn't join the school team. They both weren't very popular, but they weren't unpopular either, they were just average 5th graders.
The class went on as it normally would have. Kellan and Dante's team was winning its match against another group. When the bell rang their teacher dismissed them back into the locker rooms. The entire class was so relieved when it rang, it was a Friday and a three day weekend, they had Monday off. They all couldn't wait to get home.
Kellan had worked up a sweat during the game, so he deiced to take a quick refreshing shower. He stripped down naked, grabbed a towel and walked into the large shower part of the locker room. He turned the water on and let the cold water wash over him. It was so relaxing. His muscles eased up and the tension in his shoulders faded away. His tail swayed as it dripped water droplets on the shower floor.
There were 10 other boys in the showers with him. His eyes wandered, looking at his fellow classmates. Suddenly, Dante appeared next to him.
He fixed his glaze on the wall in front of him, trying not to glace around anymore. Although, not being able to help himself, he snuck a quick peek at Dante. The taller black wolf was much better to his body than Kellan was to his. Not a single rib was visible on his sides, while Kellan's upper part showed. His arms were also much thicker than his. Kellan didn't eat much at home and it showed. He also noticed Dante's gentiles were slightly bigger than his own. In fact, most of the boys he'd seen had bigger privates than his own. He didn't know if it was him, or because he didn't eat as much. Then felt himself stiffening. He looked down and saw the pink tip of his penis poking out of its sheath. He abruptly covered himself. His tail moved between his legs. Dante noticed, but didn't want to draw attention to his friend.
Kellan turned off his water and headed out of the showers, covered waist down by his towel. When he got to his locker, he dried his soaking wet fur off thoroughly, unlocked his locker, pulled out his briefs, and put them on fast. As he reached back in for his pants, someone grabbed him by the shoulder and yanked him away. A large 6th grade lion stared at him.
"I saw that little boner you got in the shower. You little fag." He chuckled and pushed him on the ground. "You got a small one for being 11."
Everyone around them stopped what they were doing, most were 5th graders like Kellan, but none dare stand up to a 6th grader. The 6th graders who were watching were chuckling. The lion's friends began taunting Kellan as well. "He likes it up his ass." One of them said, which made the lion laugh. Kellan stared up at the Lion towering over him. His ears flattened and he moved his tail to cover himself. The lion's tail, however, was swaying back and forth. He was enjoying tormenting the smaller wolf.
Dante, now fully clothed, had come to see what was happening, only to see Kellan lying in the middle of the room, in his underwear. He immediately went to his aid. He pushed the lion out of the way and helped Kellan up. "Leave him alone, jackass." He said sternly. The lion only laughed again.
"Come to save your boyfriend? How cute." He said devilishly. He then remembered something he was told by one of his teachers. "How's your mommy Wulf?" That one question hit Kellan hard. He felt tears well up in his eyes. "Oh yeah, she's dead." The other 6th graders at this point stopped laughing, he'd gone too far. Kellan turned back to his locker, trying to get away. The lion shoved Dante out of his way, and pinned Kellan against another locker. "You know what?" He whispered into his ear. "I bet she hated you. You worthless little fag." Kellan whimpered and began crying.
At that, Dante jumped up tackled the lion to the ground and started beating the living hell out of him. He was pulled off by one of the PE teachers. "What do you think you are doing?!" He yelled. The lion was a mess, but he'd been careful not to overdo it. He looked up and saw Kellan was gone, his locker was shut.
"He was insulting and making fun of Kellan!" He said in an enraged voice. The teacher looked at a group of boys nearby for conformation; they nodded in agreement with Dante. Another teacher came and helped the lion up.
"You've been warned several times, Zack. I'll let your parents deal with you, and they'll probably think you deserved this." He said to the lion as he pulled him away.
The teacher holding Dante let him go. He looked up at him. "Go find Kellan; I'll deal with this Tuesday." He said. He was fully aware of what happened to Kellan's mother, and knew Dante was the only one at this point that could help him. Dante nodded and quickly grabbed his things, running off to find Kellan.
After several minutes of searching, Dante finally found Kellan in the back of their bus. The bus driver was back there with him, trying to comfort him. Dante hurried to his side. The bus driver looked at him and told Kellan it was going to be ok, then returned to the driver seat.
"Kellan?" Dante said quietly. Kellan was crying so hard he doubted he heard him. "Kellan." He said again. This time Kellan turned away and hugged his backpack tightly. Dante heard him softly whisper, "Mommy." Dante sat next to him and hugged him as best he could. "I'm sorry Kellan." His body shook in soft tremors. Dante forcefully turned Kellan towards him, his eyes were tightly closed shut. Lines in his fur showed were the tears rolled down his face. He moved his backpack out of the way and hugged him again, Kellan hugged back.
"I-I miss her s-s-so much." He whimpered.
"I know, I know, he got what he deserved." Dante said, his shoulder wet from his friend's tears. Kellan's tail was curled up. Dante shifted his own tail so it was lying across his lap.
The bell rang and kids began getting on the buses. The first kid on their bus was one of the sixth graders who witnessed the whole thing. He was a brown hyena. He walked to the back, sat in the seat in front of them, and turned around.
"Hey, uh, what happened back there was really messed up. I'm sorry. I should have stopped him, he went too far. You can bet I won't be his friend anymore." He said. He sounded genuinely sorry, so Dante thanked him. "Is he going be ok?" He asked, pointing at Kellan.
"I hope." Dante said. He was holding Kellan's hand while he continued to cry onto his shoulder. A few other kids on the bus asked what happened to Kellan and if he'd be alright. Dante just concentrated on his friend. The hyena saw this and waved all the others away.
When everyone was on the bus, they took off. Kellan and Dante's bus stop was the first one on the route. For the ten minutes it took to get there, Dante couldn't stop thinking about what the lion had said, not understanding why he wanted to hurt Kellan like that.
Why would he go there? He asked himself. He remembered what had happened so clearly,
the morning Kellan's mother died, she made him his lunch for school and kissed him on his lips, and said that she loved him so much. He then kissed her husband and Brianna, and then walked out the front door. That was the last time they saw her alive.
Kellan went to school without a care in the world, as all kids his age should have felt. The day went by quickly. Dante ended up walking home with Kellan. When they opened the door Kellan shouted, "Mommy! Daddy, I'm home!" But no response came. Puzzled, Kellan went searching for his parents. The last place he looked was their room. He was startled to see his father and sister sitting up against the bed, crying hard.
"Daddy?" He asked. His father's head shot up, and ran and picked up Kellan and held him tightly in his arms, Brianna joined their embrace. At first Dante was confused, why were they crying?
"Kellan..." His father sobbed.
"W-where's Mommy?" He asked, his voice shaky, seeing his father like this scared him.
"Honey," He paused. "Mommy's... gone." He managed to say through his sobs and coughing.
It didn't hit Kellan at first. "Gone? Where did she go?" He asked. It must have been the hardest part for his dad, telling Kellan his mother was gone forever.
"S-she's..." He stopped and swallowed heavily, "Dead." He finished.
Kellan's eyes widened, his heart nearly stopped. "W-what?!" He cried.
"She's gone honey." He hugged Kellan tighter. "She's gone."
Kellan absolutely broke down. He cried the loudest and hardest of all them. "No! She's not gone! Not my mommy!" He wailed. Dante himself leaned up against a wall; he couldn't believe Kellan's mother was dead. He later found out she died in a car crash. Kellan couldn't handle the sadness that overwhelmed him. From that day forth, he was never the same. On her funeral, his entire family was there. When he went up to the casket to see her one last time, he kissed her and fell apart. His father had to pick him up and carry him out of the church. His father sent him home with his grandmother, and went to the burial with only Brianna. He knew Kellan couldn't bear to watch as they lowered his mother's body into the ground. Kellan's grandfather went to the burial, and spoke to them.
"Cindy Wulf had the purest and kindest soul I've ever seen in all my years," He said, "She always went out of her way to help others. She lived a wonderful life. Although it was cut short, she brought happiness to all our hearts." He spoke nothing but truth. She was like an angel on earth.
As the casket was lowered into the ground, he spoke again, his entire body, including his tail, was motionless. "Let us pray." Everyone bowed their heads and closed their eyes. "Oh Lord, We've gathered here today, to ask that you grant our beloved Cindy safe passage to heaven. We all know she deserves nothing less. She was one of your greatest creations, Lord. We only ask that you watch over her for the rest of eternity. And we also pray, that you be with my son, Kenith, my granddaughter, Brianna, and most of all Lord, be with my grandson Kellan." He paused, as if adding his own personal prayer. "We ask this in your name, Amen."
Dante sat in complete rage. How could someone be so cruel? Kellan lay on Dante, he was hugging his tail and still holding Dante's hand.
When the bus stopped, he helped Kellan carry his bag and they both got off. They walked silently to Kellan's house.
The front door was unlocked when they got there. Dante opened it and led Kellan inside.
"Kellan? Is that you?" It was his sister, Brianna.
"Yeah, can you come here, Bry?" Dante asked. Brianna came into the room. When she saw Kellan lying on the couch with his face buried, she rushed over to him.
"Kellan? Kellan, what's wrong? Are you alright?" She asked worried. Dante repeated everything that happened, aside from what happened in the shower. She softly stroked his head and took his hand. "Its ok, Kellan, you're home now. I'm here." She lightly squeezed his hand. "I'm here Kellan. I won't let anyone hurt you." Brianna was like a mother to Kellan. She was grey like Kellan, but had a lighter shade of grey instead of white. When their mother died, Brianna was 11 at the time, and was now 16. Their father, had never got over his mate's death. Five years later, he drank to escape his sadness. He was almost always drunk or not home at all. He had a hard time providing for his kids, so Brianna got a job to help care for Kellan.
Kellan wouldn't turn or talk to them, so Brianna picked him up in her arms and carried him upstairs to his room. Dante followed.
She laid Kellan on his bed, but he still gripped her hand, not wanting to let go. Brianna got her hand free and took off her shoes. She laid down next to her little brother, and stroked his head and ears again. Dante lay on the opposite side of him. Brianna wrapped her arms around Kellan. "Get some sleep little guy," she whispered and kissed him on his nose. "I love you."
"I love you too." Kellan said quietly. He hugged her close to him, and warped his tail around her leg.
All three wolves fell asleep on the bed.
