#10 of Black Death

Well, finally getting around to posting chapters to my stories again. Sorry you all had to wait, but I sorta got carried away with that big Dragonrider Legion story. But anyways, here is the next chapter of Black Death which continues the unusual fight from before, but will it finish or will I make you wait even longer for the end?

~ ~ Cecil's POV ~ ~

The scene was abuzz with activity as the music played over the loud speakers around us, everyone doing one thing or another the fight progressed before us. The colosseum staff initially had tried their hardest to regain control over their system after Obelisk had first taken over a spoke. It had surprised everyone besides me and Snow, since we had heard him before, but despite their best efforts they were unable to and soon gave up to instead just watch along with the rest of us.

Although watching wasn't all most of the audience were doing by this point. When the event had first started, most of the students and even the teachers weren't really interested considering that Fenrir was new and up against someone of Reshef's caliber. But once the music started, and they watched at how my folf was fighting, they started to pay more attention and slowly even started to dance along with the beats Obelisk was playing.

While Xander and Snow joined the masses and danced their hearts away, Silnis and I remained seated as we watched the fighting progress on one of the monitors set up so we could see the action through the thick swirling cloud. I sighed and leaned forward, propping my right arm against my leg and resting my head on it before I spoke up. "It's been about half an hour right? I can't believe he's really lasting, and in this sort of manner too. Snow and I watched him do it before but I never thought he'd actually fight like this too." I commented to the wolf next to me, not taking my eyes off my folf.

"You're right about that, I've never seen someone fight this way before. And this playlist of his is so different too, Fall Out Boys, Disturbed, OneRepublic, Breaking Benjamin, TobyMac, and all the other songs he's played too. You've sure found an odd character he kitty, for him to fight like that and still be serious." Silnis replied, giggling to himself as he watched beside me.

My ears flicked at that last comment and I turned to look at him, my head tilted in confusion. "What do you mean by 'serious' Wolfy?" I asked him.

"You can't tell?" he responded, chuckling to himself as I leaned closer to me and spoke again. "It might not seem that way, it even looks like he's not taking it seriously at all, but that's wrong. He's using his skills and habits to their fullest. Just take a look around and you'll see for yourself, some of the higher classes are taking notice too."

He then started to point out multiple people that weren't among the standing crowd, including that big black wolf that questioned Fenrir's worth because of his name. I was surprised that so many different people were taking a bigger interest in my new mate now.

"Wow, there's quite a lot of them Sil, and I'm glad it's not just for show cause he didn't seem like the show-off type to me." I replied, turning from the wolf back to the monitor to continue watching the fight.

Fenrir was somehow still going strong after spending nearly twenty minutes dancing around the field. It almost seemed like he was enjoying himself too, with how his body move along with the beat, evading Reshef's assaults and sometimes even attacking back. The soldier's numbers were dwindling slowly as the fight dragged on, and the jackal was ever forced to direct them with his paws instead of just standing there.

However, even though they were getting faster and stronger as their numbers decreased and Reshef personally directed them, Fenrir was still managing to outpace them. His movements seemed to be increasing in their speed, and yet remained in near-perfect sync with the music playing around us. I could only surmise that the strange blue glow that surrounded his boots was the reason he only seemed to be getting faster.

"Hey wolfy, what do you think that glow could be?" I asked my friend, looking back at him with a puzzled look on my face.

"I'm not too sure there kitty. I'm guessing we're both on the train of thought in thinking it's the reason your boy is holding his own out there." he responded, smirking a bit as he looked back towards me before continuing. "It's obviously some sort of power boost, since the folf's certainly gotten faster since he used it. But we can't be exactly sure without asking him directly."

That explanation didn't help at all, so all I could do was shrugs and turn to watch the monitor again, left to wonder just how many secrets Fenrir really was hiding about himself. Just don't be too reckless out there. You've got people to return to now. I thought to myself, just wishing he could hear me somehow.

~ ~ Fenrir's POV ~ ~

"Come on jackal, is that the best you can throw at me?" I shouted, smirking towards my opponent as I roundhouse kicked another of his soldiers away. I was having quite a bit of fun, despite how long I had managed to drag this out. I'm sure that my only slightly heavier breathing was also ticking Reshef off, judging by how his jawline clenched before he yelled back at me.

"Don't get to cocky folf boy, I'm just getting started." he said, waving his staff down in front of him. This caused a much larger number of soldiers to respond and charge at me, their weapons all primed and ready to attack.

This group's a lot bigger than the others. I thought to myself, chuckling internally out of habit as I leapt forward to meet them. The fighting was only getting more and more exciting as it progressed, cause the more of them I took down, the stronger the rest became. They were slowly growing in strength, speed, and even technique as their fellow soldiers fell before them.

The most interesting change though was on their masks, which has been made clear to be their weakness after having shattered so many already. I've estimated that about a quarter have been taken out so far, and there must have been some sort of trigger that Reshef added into them, cause they started to show numbers on their faces once I had defeated the 20th soldier. I could only assume it was just a random quirk to his power that helped to direct them once enough were damaged or something, not that it really matter to me.

The jackal soldier with number 34 on its mask was first to reach me and he immediately attempted to strike at me with his staff, lunging forward with one end facing straight on. In response to its preemptive strike, I stomped down with my left footpaw and used it as a pivoting point, twisting my body to the side and out of its aim. Soldier 34 just responded in kind, twisting itself in mid-air to its left to try a sweeping strike with the opposite end of the staff.

I smirked to myself as I continued through my spin, barely stopping as I caught the staff in my paws and spun again, dragging the hapless soldier along by his own weapon. The jackal was stuck in position with his staff pressing into his midriff as I swung him around like a bat and brought him crashing into three of his fellow soldiers, sending them all reeling as I let the staff go.

Too bad none of them will break. Obelisk commented in my head, with the music still playing around him.

I didn't have the time to respond to him however, as soldier #12 stomped down right in front of me and threw a gauntlet-clad punch towards my chest. Since I was still in mid-spin, I just used the momentum to my advantage and knelt down with my right leg as I threw my left one out. The jackal's punch just barely nicked my mane when my leg made contact with its legs and swept them out from under it.

They still seem to be getting better with their moves. I thought to myself as I stood back up and readied myself for the rest of the group as they encircled me.

That would appear to be the case Master, although you haven't more than damaged the last couple. Obelisk replied, his voice seeming interested by the odd turn of events.

Guess that just means we gotta stay on our toes then. I thought, chuckling lightly as another jackal leapt at me from the ring, its large axe thrown over its right shoulder as it neared me. I charged towards it as well, intending to beat the soldier to the punch. But just as I got within its striking distance, it suddenly started to melt on its own.

What the he... I started, only to be interrupted as I was slammed into from my right side by another soldier. The jackal's entire right arm engorged and enlarged as it seemed to absorb its fellow soldiers into that single limb. The blow sent me flying back and crashing hard into one of the larger sand dunes that were to my left, causing a thick cloud to bellow up as a result.

"I told you didn't I? I was only starting to get serious. My powers are much more than just summoning soldiers armed with a variety of weapons, but unfortunately you had to experience that fact the hard way. You should have given up at the start hybrid." Reshef said as he returned to his original, neutral stance.

~ ~ Third Person POV ~ ~

A sudden silence fell over the colosseum when Fenrir was thrown into the dune, the music that had people up and cheering cutting off at the same time. Everyone stared at the screens as Reshef spoke and returned to the stance he had held for most of the battle. They all were waiting to see if the jackal had finished the fight or if Fenrir would stand back up.

"You don't think he's really down, do you Sil?" Cecil asked his wolf friend, the same worried look he had back in the cafeteria returning to his muzzle. The feline had his left paw rubbing his mate's shoulder as the younger bunny set back, just as worried about their newest mate.

"That impact seemed big and violent, but I can't see your boy staying down just from that after what's he's shown us so far kitty." the wolf replied, giving his friends a soft smile. And with that, the feline returned to staring at the monitors, waiting for any sign of the hybrid. The wait stretched on and on as everyone watched, the dusty sand cloud obscuring any sign of Fenrir while Reshef remained motionless as he studying the cloud for any sign of his opponent.

"Do you see now how foolish this entire fight was from the start Head Master?" the jackal said, turning from the cloud to look up towards the crowd before he continued. "Can you please dissolve the field so I can leave and forget this waste of tim-"

Click-ick

Reshef's right ear flicked as he heard the sound and his eyes momentarily widened as he turned back to stare at the waning cloud. Before he could even react, he watched the cloud part as another shuriken came whizzing out. Where the heck is he aiming? the jackal thought as he watched the whirling blades fly to the right of the cloud and away from him. And more importantly, how is he still conscious after that hit?

The canine caught a shine radiating off of the weapon and instantly recognized the blue glow from before. He can put that stuff on his weapons too? As he thought that, the shuriken swerved in mid-air and changed course. It tilted sideways and seemed to realign itself, directly along the path of both Reshef and the large-armed soldier.

So he was aiming for the both of us. But how the heck can he keep changing the blade's direction like that? Reshef thought as he turned to face the incoming threat, thrusting his staff forward to direct his soldier. The large-armed jackal immediately moved to comply with its master's orders, taking aim at the threat as it drew back the engorged right arm, before throwing it as the blades came within range. However, the glow surrounding the blades suddenly grew as they neared the giant fist, swelling into a much larger size before the flying weapon made contact.

Shriiing

The sound reverberated throughout the colosseum as the two clashed, drawing a gasp from the audience as Fenrir's attack seemed to win. The thick glowing blades cleaved through the soldier's punch, cleanly cutting its paw in half before quickly doing the exact same thing to its mask. The jackal's body collapsed to the ground in a heap as the top half of its head was taken off, falling down several feet away as the shuriken flew passed it.

Reshef wasn't given the time to remain stunned by the sudden turn of events like the rest since the attack wasn't over yet. The shuriken was still headed for him and he had to act swiftly. The jackal twirled the staff in his paw as he stepped forward, crossing his right arm across his chest before sweeping back and upwards. He manages to deflect the weapon by hitting the hollow center with the end of his staff, avoiding its rotating blades and sending it skywards in the process.

Click

The jackal's ears twitched at the sound and he squinted his eyes as he stared at the shuriken, trying to see what the cause was. And they widened slightly as he watched the blades stop spinning and suddenly detach, each one shooting off in a different direction. Reshef noticed a brief glint following the blades scattering about, catching the outline of a wire connected to the small weapon. "That's how he's been doing it?" the jackal asked aloud.

"That would be correct." he heard a familiar voice say from behind him, just as he watched the wire grow taut as it was tugged back. Reshef turned around as he followed the shuriken's circular being drawn back from where it came, his ears turning back and lips curling up as a growl rose from inside his throat. His eyes glared at the dissipating cloud as his opponent pulled in the remains of his weapon and slowly appeared from within.

The folf in question emerged out of the dust in an almost leisurely stroll, with a soft smirk spread across his muzzle. His wings were neatly folded behind his back, his clothing seemed to be undamaged, and even his sunglasses were still perfectly set across the bridge his muzzle. Fenrir chuckled a bit as he looked over at Reshef, shrugging his right shoulder before he spoke. "That was a nice surprise there jackal. Didn't expect them to merge together like that. You even managed to dislocate my shoulder with that blow." he said, gesturing to his limp right arm.

Reshef stared in disbelief at that statement, his mouth open slightly in surprise as he looked at the arm hanging limply at his opponent's side. That's... that's all my soldier's punch did? "How the hell is that all the damaged you took from my soldier? Just what are you hybrid? There's no way a mere Omega could last this long and survive almost unscathed from something like that." the jackal growled out irritably.

Fenrir chuckled slightly at the remark as he reaches up with left paw to grasp onto his injured shoulder. "Oh, I would have figured you had gotten it through your head by now I'm not normal. I'm only an Omega because I don't have any special power like the rest of you. But," he paused, grinning over towards the jackal as his paw wrenched forward to pop his shoulder back into place with a sickening crack. "that doesn't mean I still can't beat you Reshef."

The jackal's ears quivered ever so slightly at the sound of his opponent reposition his own arm, and the anger on his face faltered briefly as the disturbing crack resounded in his mind. His right footpaw lifted as he took a step back and picked up his staff, tossing it up before daftly catching the end of it and pointing the weapon towards the folf. "Your arrogance seems to know no bounds hybrid. I will prove to you that the difference between us is too great for you to ever overcome."

"And I'll throw those exact words right back at you Pharaoh." Fenrir responded, putting a mocking emphasis on the last word as he rolled his shoulder in an attempt to get proper feeling back in his limb. "Although, I do believe that this has dragged on long enough. Perhaps it's time we actually end this, even if I can't use the full strength of my arm."

The folf lifted his right arm up and attempted to clench his paw into a fist, watching and feeling as the muscles grew taut and tightened along his arm. He continued to flex them, turning his arm one way and then another to gather his strength again.

The nanites estimate that you currently only have about 62% of the normal strength in your right arm Master. Obelisk stated inside of his master's mind, receiving a quick nod in return from the folf.

_The stiffness I'm still feeling would seem to suggest that is about right. Hmmm, this will be tricky if I can't use my dominant arm's full strength. Good thing I was about to pull out a weapon anyway to finish this. Heh, although using it with just my left arm will be a new experience._Fenrir mused to himself as he considered his options.

"How much longer are you planning to stand there flexing like that?" Reshef asked, annoyance clearly written on his face at having to wait for his opponent's showing off. The expression only intensified as he received a playful smirk from the folf.

"Oh, I was just finishing actually. And I decided it was time for the gloves to come off, so to speak, and the blades to take their place." Fenrir stated as he reached behind his back with his left paw and quickly drew out three slim poles from under his haori. He sent the middle pole into the air with a flick of his wrist before tossing another to his right paw. The folf gave a soft chuckle as he twirled the two poles in his paws, making them rest parallel to each other as the middle pole slowly fell back. He then slammed the two in his paws together as the one in the air fell into position between them, locking the segments into one another before twirling the entire construct around and slamming the end onto the ground.

"And just what the heck is that monstrosity supposed to be called?" the jackal asked as he looked the strange weapon over. It seemed to resemble a trident with a crystalline appearance and a blue horsehair tassel under the three blades, but there were two very distinct aspect that set it apart. The two side blades were straight with concaved edges instead of the more usual crescent blades and the base of the staff twisted into a large corkscrew-like shape. There was also a gem located just above the twisted base and another that was barely visible nestled into the tassel.

"This is my Ky?kyokusens? ?ry?b? (???????), or if you would prefer it to be translated into simpler terms, my Ultimate Warspear King Dragon Trident." the hybrid stated in a whimsical tone as he lifted his pole arm. He twirled it around his body, moving with a fluid-like grace as it spun around his body again and again, before being slung over the canine's shoulder almost casually.

"What a pretentious name you have there hybrid.Trident is the only part of that name that would seem to fit." Reshef commented as he stared down his opponent, unimpressed by the fellow canine's display. The jackal lifted up his own pole arm, giving it a slight toss up before grasping it near the base and pointing the top towards his opponent.

"Even if you can manage to slay the rest of my soldiers with that pole arm of yours, you still don't have the strength defeat me personally. But please, do continue to struggle, I'm actually starting to enjoy watching you fight in vain." he continued before waving his staff again, directing all of his remaining soldiers to converge on the folf.
