Chapter One: Innocent and Guilty

Part One

Kyle sat at the foot of Eva's bed, blowing a loose strand of her crimson hair out of her vision as she looked up at Eva, who was lying sprawled across her bed running a brush through her long raven hair, "Why do you bother brushing it? If you get it cut short you don't have to worry about styling it as much."

Eva raised an eye brow at her friend, "Not everyone likes the crew cut look Kyle."

"Whatever. So how long are your parents out of town?" Kyle asked, pulling out a nail file and filing her nails absent mindedly.

"Till next Friday, as late as Monday if their flight gets grounded; your granddad alright with us crashing at his place tonight?" Eva replied.

"Yep, ‘But only as long as you don' n‘vite no wild boys over!'," Kyle scrunched up her eyes and tilted her head forward in imitation of an old man.

Eva struggled with a slight tangle in her hair, grimacing as her brush broke through then turning back to Kyle, "Wild boys?"

"Direct quote, I kid you not."

"At least he cares about trying to keep you protected and innocent."

"He's about five years too late for innocent. Ow!" Kyle looked down as she accidently sanded a bit of her

finger with her nail file, putting the scratched tip in her mouth.

"Well he cares about your protection."

"I'd rather he buy me a weapon."

"He gave you that mace, didn't he?"

"Mace isn't a weapon; I'd prefer brass knuckles to that useless shit."

"Oo, Kyle, super bitch, knocking around town with a punch in the mouth for every mugger and a cap in the ass for rapists," Eva said, jumping up onto her bed in a boxing stance and punching then pretending to shoot the air with her finger before looking down at Kyle as she flopped back down on her bed," Seriously, you live in rural as it gets, small town U-S-A; who's going to attack you?"

"I'd feel safer with something that could do some real damage."

"Get yourself a guy; he'll be your lethal weapon, like Trent is for me."

"One, I don't need a guy to protect me, I could probably beat the shit out of any guy in the town, excepting

Trent, Carlos and a few other guys, but I can just cheap shot them. Two, Trent is only your ‘lethal weapon' because you fuck his brains out every week," Kyle held up her index then middle fingers to accentuate her point.

"More often than that," Eva replied, leaning over the bed and winking at Kyle.

Kyle pushed her friend's face away and continued filing her nails, "You are such a whore."

Eva groused slightly, haughtily breathing out of her nose as she sat back up on her bed, "You're one to talk, at least I'm dating the guy I'm fucking, Miss Weekend Pussy."

Kyle rolled her eyes, absentmindedly moving her nail file faster "Don't even remind me of that bull shit nickname."

"Oh, if only your parents could see you know, the school whore, living up to her mother's legacy alre-," Eva began, looking up in the air and holding her hands together on her chest.

Kyle angrily jumped up and slapped Eva across her face, "What the fuck are you implying?"

"Ow! What the fuck is wrong with you?"

"Comment about my mother?" Kyle said, glaring at Eva.

"Oh, sorry, got carried away, I guess." Eva looked down, somewhat ashamed, "I just think you should settle on a guy, so that everyone won't, talk about you so much."

Kyle lifted her middle finger toward the window, "Fuck everybody, besides, I need variety, Miss Jones," she replied, adding a sarcastic tone to her last few words.

"Soon to be Miss Cooper," Eva smiled.

Kyle raised an eye brow at Eva, "You really think he's going to propose?"

Eva walked over to her dresser looking in the mirror before turning around and counting off on her hand,

"Well, we haven't gone anywhere expensive for the past four months, and he hasn't bought any new, expensive toy for himself, and I know he hasn't been going camping with Carlos, so he must be saving for something, a girl can hope, right?"

Kyle rolled her eyes, standing up and walking toward the window, noting the slowly darkening sky, "I still don't understand this romantic notion you have about him, he's a guy, a boy more like it, and not a very smart one at that."

"Can't help it, I just love him to death, and I know he feels the same, even if he never says it," Eva said through bobby pins in her mouth as she busied herself with fixing her hair.

Kyle sighed and walked over to her friend, standing behind her and taking over her attempts to style her hair, "You're hopeless."

"I could say the same about you, why do you have such a male outlook on relationships?" Eva asked, handing a bobby pin to Kyle.

Kyle attempted to appear offended, holding her hand to her chest, "Whatever do you mean darling?" She asked, taking the bobby pin and resuming her task.

Eva blew a loose strand of her hair out of her eyes, "Oh go fuck a random stranger."

"Tried it already, wasn't much fun," Kyle replied, as she pinned the sides of Eva's hair back from her ears.

Eva sighed, burying her face in her hand and rubbing her temples, "Why does that answer not surprise me?"

"Hold still," Kyle said lpulling Eva's head back up to where she could work with it before replying, "Quite possibly because it's true."

"You're lying," Eva said in a sing song voice

Kyle replied in the same tone, "Am not."

Eva held her left hand up in the air, turning around and pointing her finger right in Kyle's face, "So you're saying that you have fucked a guy and you didn't even know him?"

Kyle nodded, "Yep."

Eva balked, "Not even his name?"

"Done it." Kyle replied, turning Eva back around.

"When?" Eva asked, looking her friend in the eyes through her mirror.

Kyle sighed and looked up, her face showing signs of reminiscing, "At Daren's Birthday party, I saw this guy there, and we went into a room, nothing said, just saw each other and fucked right there. I left when he was asleep and I haven't seen him since. It was kind of strange really, though I think he was there for the same reason as me," Kyle finished in a rather matter of fact tone, resuming her job with Eva's hair, pulling the majority of the mass of black hair to the back of Eva's head and splitting it into three parts.

Eva sighed and tried to lean down on her knee, but was ushered back up into a straighter sitting position,

"And I thought I'd heard it all, but I guess you take the cake on one night stands, didn't even say a word?"

Kyle shook her head as she began braiding Eva's hair into one large strand, "Nothing, not even a question as to whether I wanted to, or even dirty talking."

"You've got issues if you enjoy that kind of thing."

"Aren't we being a little hypocritical?" Kyle asked.

"What are you talking about?" Eva asked back, giving her friend a questioning look through the mirror.

"You know," Kyle replied, nudging Eva's shoulder

Eva's eyes went wide, "That?!"

Kyle smiled evilly, "Yeah, That."

"That doesn't count, That was one time," Eva said, glaring at Kyle.

Kyle continued smiling, "So was my stranger, and if I can have problems from that, then you can have problems from enjoying what you did."

"Can we get off of this subject?" Eva asked, holding her hands together in a pleading motion.

"I don't know; you seem to like staying on it?"

"Knock it off Kyle," Eva said seriously.

"Oh alright, so, who did you invite over tonight anyway?" Kyle asked, changing the subject.

Eva began counting off on her fingers, "Trent, of course, which also means Carlos and Jayme, and

Jayme's bringing her cousin, she's supposed to be spending time with him this week, and he has to be attached to their hip, also, Lyn's been bugging me about wanting to do more with other students, and no one else will give her the time of day, so I figured she couldn't be too annoying. Who did you invite?"

"Rodney Louis," Kyle said, trying to keep her tone casual.

Eva raised her eye brow, "Why him?"

"You know, he's my date," Kyle replied, shrugging slightly as she tried to focus on brading Eva's hair.

Eva smirked, "You mean boy toy for the week."

"Let's not get started on that, and just remember that he'll be there, I already asked Trent to pick him

up," Kyle said, pulling on Eva's hair lightly.

"Ow! Okay; nice of you to use my boy friend, B-T-W," Eva replied.

"Okay, and I'm done," Kyle said, picking up a scrunchie and cinching off Eva's long braid, "And it's also getting dark out, so we should get going."

"Sure thing, "Eva replied, standing up, "Oh yeah, we have to pick up Rei along the way."

"Oh joy of all joys," Kyle said, rolling her eyes and picking up her jacket and bag, "Shall we be off then, love?"

The breaks to the car whined metallically as it pulled up to the intersection, the driver looking from side to side before turning down left down the intersection onto the tree shaded road. As the car approached another intersection, the brakes whined even louder, grating at the ears of any who could hear.

"Carlos, you seriously need to get your breaks checked, dude," Said the guy in the back, flipping his long blonde bangs out of his eyes.

The boy in the passenger seat, a linebacker sized teenager, turned to the back, "Rodney, shut the fuck up, when you get a car and stop bumming rides off Carlos, then you can say anything you want about the breaks on his car, until then, kindly keep your ride bumming mouth shut."

"Don't worry about it Trent," Carlos said, "He's just expressing his heart felt sentiment that I should take better care of my method of conveyance, right?"

"What the fuck Carlos, I thought I asked you to speak English around me," Trent said.

"That was English," Rodney commented, flipping his hair out of his eyes, "You just don't know enough of your own language to understand him."

"One more peep out of you and I smash your face in, punk," Trent said angrily.

"Oh I'm shaking in my boots, not," Rodney replied, flipping his hair out of his eyes, "Just try me in a fight, you may be a football player, but I know how to actually fight."

Before Trent could reply Carlos cut in, "Hey look guys look, it's Pool's truck, look s like he's got another girl," Carlos said, laughing, and pointing at a truck as they passed it, then whispering under his breath, "Lucky save."

"Wonder who he's got this time," Trent said, looking in the window as they passed the truck, then grabbing Carlos suddenly, "Stop the car right now man, I've gotta do something."

Carlos pulled the car to the side of the road and Trent stepped out, running up to the driver's side and ripping the door open, pulling a scare looking boy in a heavy jacket out and slamming him against the side of the truck, appearing to be yelling obscenities at him. The passenger side of the car opened up and a dark haired girl stepped out and began yelling at Trent, who turned from his current target and yelled at her, pointing to Carlos's car. "Oh shit," Carlos said, "That's Rei."

"Who's Rei?" Rodney asked, turning to Carlos, and flipping his hair out of his eyes.

"Eva's sister," Carlos said, "And she's supposed to be at her friend's house waiting for Eva to pick her up, not parked on the side of the road with a date rapist."

Rodney nodded, turning back around, and flipping his hair out of his eyes, then suddenly turned back toward Carlos, "Wait, Joey Pool is a date rapist? Since when?" He asked, flipping his hair out of his eyes, again.

Carlos sighed at Rodney's hair problems then replied, "Since Kyle came home from him trying to screw her in a less than comfortable place in the middle of a date back when she actual went on them."

Rodney nodded again, turning back to the scene with Trent then suddenly back to Carlos again, flipping

his hair out of his eyes, "How did you know that about Kyle, that seems kind of personal?" He asked, flipping his hair out of his eyes.

"You learn a lot about Kyle when you spend a lot of time with Trent, Eva and Kyle are inseparable, and Trent and Eva are inseparable, so if you spend time with Trent, you hear thinks about Kyle. Look out now, here comes the little terror," Carlos said, pointing at Rei, who was stomping angrily up to Carlos's car. Rodney opened the passenger side door and the angry looking girl sat down loudly into the seat, bouncing the car up and down, and then slamming the door shut.

Rodney turned to Carlos, flipping his hair out of his eyes, "The air in here just got very cold and tense." He said, jokingly.

Rei turned to Rodney and elbowed him in his stomach, to no real effect, "Shut the fuck up ass hole," she said.

Suddenly the front passenger side door opened and Trent packed his large, broad frame into the front, buckling his seat belt, "Carry on Carlos," he said, pulling out a his cell phone and dialing a number. After the phone rang for a few seconds he began talking, "Hey Eva, yeah it's Trent, never guess where I just found Rei: in Pool's truck on the verge of his grand finale. Yes I know she's supposed to be at Susie's. Yes, I've got her in the car with me, don't worry, I won't give her your lecture, I'll let you do it, but could you pick up Jayme for us, we can't take another two in the car. Thanks baby, see ya later," Trent hung up his phone and turned back toward Rei, "I'm not going to lecture you and I'm not going to ask for an explanation, what I will say is that you made one fuck of a mistake in more than one way, and I don't want to hear a word out of you before we get to Kyle's."

"Ass hole," Rei said, looking out the window.

"What the fuck did I just say? I said not a fucking word, and I meant it, now here are the fucking stakes, you say anything else before your sister talks to you and I call your fucking parents and tell them where you were," Trent said.

"You wouldn't-."

"I said not a word, not sit there and calm down so Eva doesn't have to have a bitch contest before a fucking party."

Carlos laughed suddenly, stopping his car as his laughter became hysterical.

"What's so funny?" Trent asked, looking confused as suddenly Rodney burst out laughing too.

"That is pretty good," Rodney said through gasping laughter, flipping his hair out of his eyes.

"What?" Trent asked, still confused.

Carlos calmed down for a second, turning toward Trent, "You said ‘fucking party' hermano," he managed to wheeze through his laughter.

"So, what about it?" Trent asked, still clueless.

Rei rolled her eyes, "Boys are so immature."

Carlos continued to laugh, "Well, half of the reason why we're getting together is to, you know, fuck."

Trent paused for a second the suddenly burst out laughing, "That is kind of funny."

Rei rolled her eyes again and shook her burying her head in her hands, fighting back a small chuckle, "Boys are so immature."

"Carlos!" yelled Jayme, as she ran up toward Carlos and jumped up on him, kissing him, as she wrapped her thin legs around him, her long brown hair draping down and covering his face, "I have missed you all damn week, why the fuck did you have to get grounded like that?"

"Because he really loves me sweet heart," Trent said, chuckling, "He'd rather burn evidence than screw around with you."

Jayme glared at Trent, then at Carlos, "Don't make me think you two are fags," She said, dropping off of Carlos.

"Do I get a say in this?" Carlos asked, holding his arms out to his sides, "Three seconds ago I'm making out with my girl friend now suddenly she doesn't want to touch me; how is that for fickle?"

Kyle laughed as she walked up to the other three, "Looks like you've finally learned what you should have about four years ago, hermano."

"Funny Kyle," Carlos said, "So this is your house?" He asked, pointing at the rather large, rustic looking hunting lodge that all of their three cars were parked in front of, "Doesn't really seem much like a place you'd live, probably why you crash at Eva's place all the time."

"I sleep at Eva's house so that I can get to school without having to wake up at four in the morning," Kyle replied, "It's not like there's anything wrong with staying at your cousin's house."

"I can vouch for that," said a third guy, appearing out of nowhere, not making a sound as he had snuck up to the group, "There's nothing wrong with crashing at a cousin's house."

"Umm, who's he?" Kyle said, leaning over toward Trent and looking the new guy up and down.

"Oh, sorry about that, how rude of me not to introduce myself, my name is Xander, I'm Jayme's cousin," He said, holding out his hand to Kyle, "I followed you guys here from Jayme's house like she told me to."

"Oh, yeah, she did say you'd be following in your own car... um, this is kind of awkward," Kyle said, shaking Xander's hand, then turning around to find herself face to face with a mousey looking brunette with thick-rimmed glasses, "Woah, Lyn, how the hell did you get so close without me hearing you?"

"Oh sorry," Lyn replied, "I just noticed you guys talking over here and thought I'd join you, oh hey Rodney!"

Rodney, smiled nervously at Lyn and flipped his hair out of his eyes, "Hey Lyn, oyu already finished your calculus homework?"

"No, I couldn't figure out the last few problems, but I've got all next week to finish them, tonight's going to be about having fun for me."

"I'd have to say the same for myself," Rodney said, flipping his hair out of his eyes and looking at Kyle, smiling.

Kyle sighed, "Okay that is really getting on my nerves Rodney," she said, reaching into her pocket.

"What are you talking about?" Rodney asked, flipping his hair out of his eyes.

"That, the hair thing," Kyle said, pulling out a bobby pin and brushing Rodney's hair to the side and pinning it in place, "Your eyes are pretty Rodney, I like looking at them, stop letting your hair cover them up. There, now you look even better."

Rodney blushed slightly, "Umm, thanks I-"

Rodney was interrupted by a loud yell coming from Rei, who had been pulled aside earlier by Eva, "I

can do what I want to when I feel like it Eva, you are not the boss of me!"

"What was that?" Eva asked, crossing her arms, "Mom and dad told me to make sure that you didn't get into trouble over Spring Break while their away, so that kind of makes me the boss of you. Besides, Trent saved you from a world of hurt, why are you so angry?"

"What the fuck are you talking about, I was in a car with a boy," Rei replied, stomping her foot on the ground.

Eva held her arms out to her side, "He's a fucking date rapist!"

"No he isn't, he was being really nice," said Rei, glaring angrily at her sister.

"That's his game you idiot!"

"Maybe I wanted to have sex with him, isn't that my decision, I know you and Trent had sex when you were sixteen."

"Don't even begin to compare Trent to that ass hole, I've known too many girls that were too ashamed to tell anybody what that fucker did to them, Trent didn't want to see that happen to you," Eva said, pointing at Rei menacingly.

Rei continued glaring at Eva, "Was Kyle one of them?"

Eva slapped Rei and held finger her in front of Rei's face, "You will shut your mouth now, you got that? Now, you are going to go inside and simmer down about this, it's not the end of your life and you didn't have fucking choice in the matter, you screwed up and luckily for you Trent noticed and bailed you out."

Rei held her cheek, tears brimming at her eyes, then slowly walked over to the front door of Kyle's house and stepped inside, slamming the door behind her. Eva turned over toward Trent, frowning, "I hate when she gets like this, she's been so angsty for the past few months, and I have no idea why."

"Seems like a normal girl to me," Rodney commented.

Kyle leaned in close to Rodney pressing her chest up against his and leaning her head up toward Rodney almost touching her lips to his, "Rodney, how much do you want to fuck me?"

Rodney turned bright red, then stuttered out, "A-a-a lot I g-guess."

"Then shut he fuck up or I shut you the fuck out," she said, pushing him down onto the ground, "Come on Eva, let's go for a walk."

Eva nodded, kissing Trent then pulling away from him, "See you later baby, have a nice time while we're gone," She said, running to catch up with Kyle.

Jayme leaned over and whispered into Carlos's ear, who shook his head, "Nah Kyle and Eva need to talk right now, no one needs to bother them."

"Then are we good to go inside?" Xander asked, turning to Trent.

"I guess Kyle won't mind, at the very least we need to make sure that Rei isn't busting up the place."

Moira breathed heavily as she turned the corner of the maze like hall way, sighing in relief as she saw clear white walls with no hiding places and no one, or, better, none of whatever was after her. According to the directory she had passed, this was the way to the stairs, maybe from there she could navigate her way out with a map on a different floor. But out of where? Where was she? All Moira could remember was waking up after turning onto a road, being angry at boy friend, then she had woken up here, and for the next two weeks, she underwent what in her mind seemed to be endurance and strength tests, though why men in white lad uniforms were interested in her, she had no idea. More importantly though, everything changed a few hours earlier, an alarm had gone off while she was being walked to her testing room, and then she had run into those strange men. Just thinking about them gave her chills.

Putting such thoughts out of her head, Moira shoulder the M16 she had picked up, and silently padded down the hallway, her feet gently slapping against the floor, making barely a noise. That was one thing Moira hated about this place; she hadn't worn a decent pair of clothes in all her time here, instead being relegated to a medical bra, and some scrubs, the cheap kind with little straps on the back for tightening the top. Needless to say, she felt exposed. Reaching the next corner, Moira peeked around the said, lifting her M16 to head level and leading with the barrel; empty. But his hallway was different, before Moira was a door, most likely the stairs, but there was something wrong with the door, it had a streak of blood leading up to it and a bloody hand print next to the handle.

How had the blood gotten there? Whose blood was it? Was it one of the freaks? Was one it one of their victims? Regardless, a streak of blood leading to a door wasn't a good thing. Moira timidly approached the door, half expecting a crazed man to burst through and charge her, "Come on girl, you gotta go through," Moira told herself, "Gotta go through, there are just more back the way you came, you don't have a..."

An animalistic growl sounded from behind Moira, and she rushed through the door to find a stairs, with the bloody streak continuing up into the stairwell. Knowing what lied behind her, Moira took the lesser of two evils: uncertainty.

Noir's eyes snapped open as the alarm sounded. This is different he thought as he turned over and rolled off of his bed, landing on his feet and looking around his stark white cell All I can hear is the alarm, is no one else waking up right now? The prisoner paced his cell, as was his habit, then looked out the clear glass of the front of his cell, "Well that's different," he said, as he was greeted by the scene of a dead body on the ground and a man hunched over it, "Hello my friend could you tell me what is going on right now?"

The man looked up from the body, and Noir laughed as he saw that the man's face was covered in blood, and that he was chewing on something, probably a piece of the body he had been leaning over, "Ah, so you're one of those people." Noir said, leaning back away from the glass as the man's face contorted violently and he charged at Noir's cell door, "You know you can't get through it that way my bellicose cannibal friend, if it were that simple then I would have been out of here ages ago. Besides, what will you do to me? I'd turn you into a piece of art you fool, go back to your moaning meal and let me meditate in peace while I wait for someone to happen along and save my soon to be rotting body from certain starvation." Noir's words didn't seem to have any effect on the man, who continued pounding at the cell door.

"Fine then, have it your way, just don't keep me awake," Noir said, about to turn around when he suddenly heard a gun fire and saw spray of red erupt from the man's back. Watching intently, Noir saw the man turn to the direction of the shots and charge.

"What the hell, I shot him in the heart!" Noir heard someone say outside, "He's one of them!" Another shot sounded and the next spray of red was the man's brains splattering against the door to noir's cell.

Noir clapped loudly, "Oh bravo, what a good show, spectacular entertainment, if rather short lived, though that was a very nice effect right there at he end, all over the place! Now would the actors please step forward?"
