New Beginnings Chp 1
#1 of New Beginnings
This is my first story so tell me what you think. It's about a teenager and his life after transferring to a new anthro high school.
Brring briiing briing
Eric woke to the sound of his alarm. When he opened his eyes he saw his younger brother Mark next to his bed pushing the alarm into his face.
"Oh My God! Get outta my room and drop the fuckin' alarm," Erik yelled as he tossed a pillow at his now retreating brother.
"tsk tsk, no need for that kind of language Eric," Retorted the younger brother with a laugh suddenly ending from a pillow to the face. "C'mon, mom told me to wake you up. Breakfast is ready." Mark said as he put down the alarm and left the room with a grin on his face.
Eric slowly got out of bed and walked down the stairs to the kitchen. He slumped down into a chair and looked at food. "What's with the feast?" Eric asked his mother as she put some eggs and pancakes on their prospective plates.
"Well today is the first day of high school for you brother and your first day of senior year," She looked at Eric waiting for a response and didn't get one then continued talking, "so I thought 'why not celebrate it?' and made a big breakfast for us."
While his mom was talking, Eric was dreading going to school. She had them move schools when she got a job teaching at an anthro school. He didn't really care that he is going to an anthro school, but he did care that he is going to a new school in senior year. He really had no opinion on anthros, but his dad did. He straight out hated them. If one walked into the same room as him, he would give them a death stare or leave the room himself. He had even complained to a store manager about selling to anthros, but the manager did nothing. The family never shopped there again.
Eric and Mark both believe that their father and mother's divorce was due to the hatred of anthros, but their mom says they just don't love each other like they did. The boys knew the truth though.
"So... when are we leaving?" Eric asked with little enthusiasm.
"Once we finish eating and you take your shower we can leave."
"What time does school actually start? It's only 7:13."
"8:00, but I have to be there early to prepare for my classes."
Eric dropped his head down onto the countertop sighing. Mark gave him his plate and they took their food. They ate in silence.
Once he finished their food Eric got up about to go upstairs when his mom said, "hey, don't forget your plate honey." With a groan, Eric came back, grabbed his plate, took it to the kitchen, and put it in the sink. "Thank you," his mom said as he walked up the stairs. He responded with a wave of the hand and continued toward the bathroom.
Inside, he took a look at himself in the mirror. His hair was a dark brown, almost black, and shaggy, he clearly had no summer tan and looked white as ever, his eyes were a deep brown like that of freshly turned earth, he wasn't severely muscular in his arms, but he had toned legs and a flat stomach because of the track he ran at his old school and was even one of the star players. He took one last look and got into the shower.
After the car ride to the school, their mom went to her classroom and the brothers stood in place. They stared at the school for a minute before proceeding inside.
Eric figured he would get to his homeroom and sit, they still had 20 minutes before school started. He walked over to a desk which held the schedules for the students. Following closely was Mark.
"What're you doing?" whispered Mark.
"Looking for my classes... Why are you whispering?"
"Oh... um... I don't really know." Mark said clearing his voice.
"Okayyyy... well I have to go to room... 402... be seeing you then." Eric responded after searching through the directory for his name and schedule.
'Bye Eric' was all Eric heard as he turned the corner leaving his brother alone. He searched for five minutes before finding his classroom. He walked in and saw a large siberian tiger sitting down at a desk in front of the room.
"Well hello there. You must be Eric Tanner, I am Mr. Goldstein, an English teacher here for seniors. I do believe you are in my class today Mr. Tanner... ah, yes, you are, good," Mr. Goldstein said as he saw Eric.
All the while, Eric was just staring at him with an open mouth, not sure what to say.
"I take it you have not seen many of my kind, yes?"
"Um, no, sir. No I haven't. I'm sorry it's different from what I expected... sir," Eric said with the words stumbling out of his mouth.
"It's okay son, just don't be doing that with other teachers or fellow students, okay?"
"Yes sir."
"So if I understand this correctly, your mother is a new teacher here and you have a younger brother in the freshman class, yes?
"Yeah, that's why I transferred here. My mom wanted us close by."
"What subject is she teaching?"
"I think it's, um, cultural diffusion of, um, anthros and humans?" Eric said unsure of what she told him.
Mr Goldstein's response to that was a quick laugh when suddenly the bell rang. "Okay Mr. Tanner, why don't you take a seat."
Eric gave a quick nod and went to his seat. He looked toward the door as it burst open and all sorts of different anthros came through the door. He noticed how they didn't seem to notice him as they walked by. He was glad they didn't, he wasn't ready to be noticed yet.
Once everyone had their seats, Mr. Goldstein called out attendance.
"Clara Hithup" "here" "Marcus Stang" "here" "Greg Lund" "here" "Sarah Langly" "here" "Eric Tanner" "here"
Everyone turned around when his name was called. Eric shrank into his seat at the back of the class. People muttered throughout the room. Eric heard the word 'human' from all directions like there isn't another one in the school. That's when he realized there was only him and his brother.
After everyone lost interest, the names were all called out and the day started. From homeroom with Mr. Goldstein, he went to Physics with Mr. Palenti, Calculus with Mr. Frantar, Cultural Diffusion with his mother, and finally lunch.
He sat alone at a table and scanned the lunchroom. He saw all types of anthros from foxes to horses to even dragons. Then he saw Mark sitting with a horse, a lioness, two wolves, a cheetah, and two dragons, one of which is a girl.
While he was scanning the room, he didn't notice a large husky approach his table from the left. The husky spoke abruptly to Eric and gave him a fright. The Husky was slightly taller than Eric and was more built, but not extremely so, he had snow white fur all over his body, from what Eric could tell at least.. On his face was a kind, heartwarming smile accentuated by his deep blue eyes.
"This seat taken?"
In a panic Eric said, "yes, yeah, um, sorry it is, my friend, uh, Marcus, um, Lund, is sitting there, uh, in that seat."
"Oh, okay so I guess I'll go find another seat."
Eric looked at him for after he turned around and was guilty for lying. "Wait, I'm sorry, no one is sitting here. You can sit."
The Husky turned around with a grin on his face, "I know there wasn't, I just wanted to ask before sitting. There is no Marcus Lund in our class. There is Marcus Stang and Greg Lund, but no Marcus Lund," the husky said with a laugh.
Eric looked at him slightly annoyed, but got over it. "My name's Eric Tanner."
The husky looked at him for a second then said, "I know who you are, hell, the whole school knows who you and your brother are."
"It hasn't even been a day, how?"
"Word travels fast 'round here, and you two are the only humans in the school."
"So... what's YOUR name?"
"oh yeah, sorry, things slip my mind easily, my name is Lucas, Lucas Mashner. We're in Physics and Cultural Diffusion together. what are your next classes?"
Eric reached for his backpack, which was next to Lucas' hand and saw a rainbow bracelet on it. He stared at it for a couple seconds and pulled out his schedule.
When he looked back, Lucas seemed not to notice and had his own schedule out. "So I have Calculus, History, then English. What do you have?" Lucas asked.
"Well I have Art, History, and English." Eric said after examining his paper.
"Sweet, thats two more classes." At that, the bell rang to commence classes once again. "Guess I'll see you there. Bye" Lucas said with a wink and went to his classes.
Eric was stunned for a few seconds, confused about what just happened. 'Did he just wink at me?' was his last thought before getting up and continuing toward class.
Art was boring to Eric and he regretted signing up. After art he went to History and the entire class he was talking with Lucas. The same happened in English class with Mr Goldstein.
After school, he stayed a little later to wait for his mom to finish up. Mark came from behind and sat next to him. "So how was your first day of high school?"
"It was great, I made some friends in all my classes. Have you seen some of them? They're amazing! There are so many different kind of anthros, its unbelievable. Why haven't we ever met any?"
"Dad hates them, c'mon you know that. I don't know why he does, but he does. I wonder what he would say to us. He knows we're going to an anthro school and mom sent us here even though he said 'no'. He's probably pissed at her for that."
"Yeah... probably." Mark said in a sad tone.
"Hey Mark, it's okay, he won't hurt her or us ever again. He is locked away for what he did and cannot get to us, remember?" Eric took Mark under his arm and Mark started to cry silently. "He hurt more people than just us. He took people from their families, so it's only fair he gets taken away from the one he doesn't deserve. You understand that don't you?" Mark nodded and looked up at Eric with red eyes. Eric responded with a hug. He might get mad at his brother, but he is still his brother and they need to take care of each other.
They left the school around 4. When they had gotten home, their mother was tired and went to bed early after making a quick dinner of grilled cheese. Eric went to his room while Mark played his video games.
Eric laid in bed and stared at the blue roof of his bedroom. He thought about his dad. He had gotten drunk a couple of years ago and killed three anthros. They had families and he took them away from those families. When he had gotten home, he was in a drunken rage. He usually got home drunk, but this was more severe. He hurt their mom and caused her to go unconscious on the floor after a large hit to the head. Eric head heard Mark scream as his dad started hitting him too and Eric ran into the room, furious his dad would hurt them like that and tackled him. Eric punched hum repeatedly until he was unconscious like their mother was. Eric told Mark to call the police and when they arrived they took his father into custody and treated the families physical wounds. The emotional wounds could not be healed though, they formed scars. His father was imprisoned fro the murders and abuse for life.
Thinking of his father made Eric tear up. He hated his father and wanted him to rot.
After staring at the ceiling for an hour, he got up and did some work. At around 10:00, Eric went to bed. When he fell asleep he dreamt of Lucas. He liked his dream and was enjoying it, until his father showed up. He beat Lucas until he was near death. He suddenly stopped, looked at Eric, pulled out a gun, gave it to Eric, and had him pull the trigger and shoot Lucas.
Eric woke and panicked. He pulled put his phone and texted the number Lucas gave him.
'R U OK?'
Eric waited for what seemed like hours until the response came.
'YEA, WHY? WHTS WRONG?'
'SRRY NOTHINGS WRONG HAD A DREAM'
'OH OK'
Eric looked at the time and saw it was three in the morning.
'IM SRRY 4 WAKING U'
'NO ITS OK'
'ILL SEE U LATER TODAY'
'YEA SEE U'
And with that Eric laid back down in bed. He couldn't fall asleep so he got up and went to the bathroom. He took a look in the mirror and thought about what his life is going to be like now. It doesn't seem that bad. With that he said, "to new beginnings," and got into the shower.
