Chapter 2: V-mon - Into the Digital World
It had been three months since Natsuru and Haru had encountered a creature known as a digimon; a digital monster. The one they had briefly befriended was known as Dinohumon, who was sent back to his home world called the Digital World. After that event had happened, Natsuru and Haru had lost all memory of all that had transpired that day, three months ago. Life had gone back to normal for the two demon hunters, however, that normal life was about to change for Natsuru.
"Help...I need...help", came the voice of an unknown creature. The creature was held captive; trapped within a crystal that was held by chains in an undisclosed area somewhere. The creature continued to call out for help, its voice sounding melancholic and in peril, and little bit in pain. "Please...someone...anybody...hear my voice. A great evil has befallen the Digital World. If it's not stopped, I fear that this world will cease to be." It's pleas for help were seemingly going unheard, but that didn't stop it. It would continue asking for help, until eventually someone heard its words.
Meanwhile, in the real world, Natsuru was preoccupied on the computer as he was endlessly playing his game. It looked to be a pet simulator game, where he was taking care of some sort of blue dragon creature. "Ok V-mon, let's get you all good and healthy", Natsuru said contently as he fed the blue dragon; followed by him petting it. A big smile appeared briefly on Natsuru's face and gave a brief chuckle, "alright now, how about we do some training next." The game he was playing was titled Digimon Universe and since the day he had gotten the game, he's been addicted to it. "That's it V-mon, keep that training up; gotta level you up for anymore upcoming battles", Natsuru said as his tail wagged excitedly.
Entering the room, Haru gave a sigh as he shook his head in dissatisfaction at watching the dragon still playing. "I can't believe that you're still on that game; you're clearly addicted", he spoke. The dragon chuckled as he rolled his eyes, "I wouldn't say I'm addicted to it, I'm just really into it is all." "What's the difference", the gryphon responded back. The avian never removed his eyes from the still gaming reptile and resumed shaking his head, "I know games are fun and all, but now I wish that we weren't offered that game at all", he thought as he began to reminiscence the day Natsuru was given that game.
At one of the local video game stores that was present, there were demons there terrorizing the store clerk. Luckily, Natsuru and Haru were there to rid the store of them and not only that, but the demons they were up against didn't prove much of a threat either. They were just little beast just destroying things and wreaking havoc for the fun of it. As the two demon hunters were dealing with the pests, the store clerk was cowering in fear from behind the paying booth. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to keep him safe, as one of the demons came up to him and hissed at him, "AAAAHHHH", he screamed out. As the demon was about to strike him, a sword had stabbed through its back and out through its chest; the tip of Natsuru's blade just an inch away from the clerk's face. "Hey, are you ok", the dragon asked as he offered his hand to the lemming, only to be responded back with the lemming falling unconscious to the floor. "Uh, ok; you just lie there while Haru and I get rid of these creeps."
Since the demons were nothing more than annoying pests on the same level as an infestation, it didn't take more than an hour for Natsuru and Haru to dispose of all of the demons. With that being an end of the ensuing destruction, Natsuru and Haru apologized for the all of the damage within the store, and were about to make their leave. "Wait", the store clerk said; stopping the dragon and the gryphon in their tracks, and turning their attention back towards the lemming. "I'm very appreciative of you both for ridding the store of those monsters", he started; "I would like you both to have this as a token of my gratitude." Looking down to see what was in the lemming's hand, was a video game titled Digimon Universe.
As the two were walking home, Natsuru never removed his eyes from the game's case; staring at the title. Digimon Universe...Digimon...Digimon? "Hey Haru; doesn't the first word of the title sound familiar to you?" Taking the case from the dragon's hands to look at it himself, the gryphon cuffed his chin as he was thinking about the word, "It does sound somewhat familiar; maybe it was a television show we watched out of boredom or something." Taking the game back from the avian's hands; Natsuru looked at the back of the case and read what the game was all about. "Well it looks like this game could be a whole lot of fun. What do you think, Haru?" Haru replied back with saying that the game didn't seem like his cup of tea and that it seemed boring, and a waste of time. The dragon shook his head at how his friend would just judge the game before actually trying it. "Well even so, it was given to us for free, so I might as well try it out", Natsuru said. "Heh, I just hope you don't become addicted to it", Haru joked.
Back in the present time...
With another sigh released from his beak, Haru was disheartened to see his friend so addicted to the game. What was once just a joke had now become reality, and he was all too pleased about it. "I really don't like how that game has made you become addicted to it; don't you think it's shirking you away from your duties?" "I don't really think I've become addicted to it, just really enjoying this game is all", Natsuru answered back. There was then a sudden chime that came from the game and the dragon reacted in an overly excited way, "oh, he leveled up; did you see that Haru, V-mon leveled up, hehe." The gryphon gave a quick sigh, "that's nice, Natsuru. Listen, are you going to come with me to patrol for demons, like we always do?" The dragon seemed to be way more focused on the game, than listen to his friend, but since there was nothing else for him to do within the game, he thought it was the best time to break from it. "Alright then, I guess I should take a break from this", Natsuru started; "let me just turn this off."
A smile had appeared across Haru's beak; finally, Natsuru would be free of that game. For the longest time since Natsuru had gotten that game, he had been too busy with it, that he would just skip out on his daily demon patrol, and Haru was not at all thrilled about that. Seeing his friend on that game every day to the point of skipping out on his job really had the gryphon worried. Unfortunately for Haru, that freedom away from the game was never going to happen, because just when Natsuru was about to turn the computer off, he heard the familiar sound that signified that his digimon was in a battle. Upon looking back at the screen, Natsuru's eyes lit as they went wide; his V-mon was surrounded by three Goburimon, "oh wow, I wasn't expecting for a random battle to happen." Natsuru returned back to his original position in his seat, and brought his attention back to the game, "just let me do this battle; got to see how strong I've gotten V-mon."
At that point Haru just sighed and decided to leave the house to go out on patrol; knowing that Natsuru would never ever get off from that game now. In the dragon's excitement with the battle, he didn't even seem to notice or hear that Haru had left; apparently to Natsuru his game was far more important than anything else at the moment. "Ok V-mon, let's give these digimon a taste of your punches and headbutts." Commanding his digimon to fight back against the three Goburimon, it didn't take too long for to win the battle, and since the three enemy digimon weren't too difficult, his V-mon took only some minor damage and the little blue dragon had leveled up again. "Man V-mon, you have certainly gotten stronger", Natsuru said as he leaned back in seat feeling proud of himself; "I'm proud of you, my awesome little digimon, hehe."
Natsuru smiled as he continued to stare at the monitor of his computer; staring at the seemingly lifeless bodies of Goburimon. Then suddenly, something unexpected had happened; something that has never happened before ever since he played the game. There was an ominous darkness that surrounded the downed digimon, and after few seconds that Goburimon had risen back onto their feet, but now their skin color had changed to black. That had caught Natsuru by surprised, as he had fallen to the floor with his chair. "Well this is new", Natsuru said as he picked himself and the chair back up. After sitting back down, he went back to the keyboard as he ready to fight the rejuvenated Goburimon, "well, this shouldn't be too difficult for my V-mon; I'll just take them out same way as before, hehe", Natsuru said in a cocky tone.
Natsuru had assumed that the battle with the Goburimon again would be just a simple one like before, but he found out that wasn't the case. As he commanded his digimon to attack the opposing digimon, Natsuru was shocked to see that the Goburimon seemed to be smarter. They were more strategic this time around; avoiding V-mon's attacks and counterattacking, and not only that but their attacks seemed to hit harder, and weren't as easy for V-mon to evade. "No way, these guys are usually weak and easy; what's with the sudden spike in difficulty all of a sudden?" As much as the dragon commanded his digimon defend itself from the Goburimon, nothing didn't seem to work and before Natsuru knew it, his V-mon was at very low health. There was a message that had appeared on the screen from the game, it said: Your digimon is close to death. "Oh no, V-mon", Natsuru tone was that worry; sweat was slowly strolling down his face upon seeing that message. "Don't worry V-mon, I'm going to heal you and think of some way to beat these guys."
Going to the item folder of the game, Natsuru clicked on the potion so he could use it to heal V-mon. However, just as he was about to heal his digimon, V-mon out of desperation ran off to the side of the monitor, with Goburimon chasing after it. Natsuru gasped upon seeing that and tried to move to where his digimon ran, but for reason couldn't move the screen over to where the digimon had ran off. "What the...what the hell just happened", Natsuru said worriedly; "why can't I scroll the screen over? Don't tell me the game glitched out on me." Natsuru grew more worried by the second in his current predicament, and the fact that the message that warned him of his digimon about to die didn't go away, was only making it worse. Just seeing that message still on his screen made the dragon feel really useless; what else he could he really do now? "Oh no, V-mon", Natsuru whispered as he lowered his head down onto the keyboard; "if only...IF ONLY THERE WAS SOME WAY FOR ME TO HELP YOU."
Back in that undisclosed area, the captive creature gasped out as it heard the voice of Natsuru. With some ounce of power it had left, the creature seemed to bring up a holographic screen and it was able to see into the real world; specifically inside the home Natsuru. Just from looking at the dragon, the creature could tell that he had some power inside of him, and with the care he was clearly showing for his digimon, the creature thought that it could somehow use Natsuru to help it and its world. "Maybe, just maybe...."
Natsuru's ears twitched as he heard a notification sound from the game, and upon bringing his attention back to the screen, he was now reading the new message that had appeared. This new message read: Do you want to save your digimon? Natsuru blinked his eyes in confusion at the new message; it was such a stupid question he thought. "Well, of course I want to save V-mon", he said as he clicked yes. He then received another message; this time saying: Are you truly honest that you want to save your digimon? Do you care about your digimon that much? "What's with these stupid questions; yes." Natsuru was slowly becoming annoyed with the messages he would receive, and just after answering the second, another one had popped up. This time, the new message read: If I help you to save your digimon, will you return the favor and help to save the Digital World from impending destruction? The dragon held a questionable expression on his face at this message, as he had no idea how to think of the question that was asked. "What is this; is this some kind of new event for this game", he thought; "whatever, if this will help me to save V-mon, then I accept."
After clicking yes as his answer of the third message, Natsuru was then greeted with another message, except this one didn't contain a question with answers. This new message read: Very well. Get ready! Natsuru raised a brow at that remark and before his eyes, his computer screen began to be filled with nothing but ones and zeros, and then bright flash happened; culminating in Natsuru falling back to the floor. Electricity was coursing throughout the computer, until eventually a small portal in the middle of the screen appeared; slowly growing larger. "Now what", Natsuru said as he stood back on his feet. The portal gotten completely large; covering the whole computer screen and Natsuru could feel himself getting pulled towards it. Natsuru was holding himself back as the force of the portal's suction had grew stronger, "I don't know what's going on, but there's no way I'll get sucked in." The suction seemed to increase and Natsuru was pulled forward a bit faster, but he was still giving it his all to not get pulled in. Unfortunately, the strong wind pulled a book off from the bookshelf behind the dragon, and hit him in the back of his head; weakening the strength he was using to keep himself from getting sucked in. "AAAAHHHH", he screamed as he was sent through the portal; the portal immediately closing afterwards.
"AAAAHHHH", Natsuru continued to scream as he was falling through series of ones and zeros; very confused about what was going on. "What's going on here; what's happening?" As the dragon trying to make heads and tails about his situation, laser beams seemed to be shooting down; hitting the dragon all over. The lasers were specifically making contact with his hands, feet, knees, chest, and for some reason his jacket; it was a good thing the lasers seemed to be nonlethal, as they weren't burning through his flesh. Natsuru couldn't help but panic when his body was being pelted with lasers. Another laser beam came and hit him dead center on his forehead, and even though the laser wasn't lethal, it was still enough to knock the dragon out; everything had become dark.
"Unh...uh...mmm...unh", Natsuru murmured as his eyes were slowly opening up. Once fully opened, he could see that he wasn't in his room anymore, but was now in what looked to be a forest. Sitting up, he briefly shook his head and started checking his surroundings, "where...am I", he asked himself; "the last thing I really remember was being sucked in through that strange portal, so maybe it sent me here." Although he was right about what he theorized, Natsuru just couldn't really make any sense of his current situation; saying that it didn't make any sense as he brought a hand to his forehead. He gave a brief gasp as he felt something attached to his head, but instead of taking it off to see what it was, he decided to go to that lake to his right to see what it was. "Oh, goggles", Natsuru exclaimed as his fingers traced over the lens; "they look really nice and are kind of awesome too." Upon closer inspection of his reflection, the dragon also noticed that his clothes had changed too; his fingerless gloves, shirt, jacket, jeans, and shoes had flame patterns on them. "Hmm, even though the flame patterns look cool, I really don't see the point of why I'm wearing them; my magic isn't even fire based."
The sudden sound of shrubbery rustling made the dragon's ears twitch, "huh", he said as he turned his attention in the direction of the sound. The shrubs continued to rustle and Natsuru was getting himself into a fighting pose; ready to summon his sword for what was to come out and attack. Coming out from the shrubbery and then immediately falling to the ground was, "V-mon!" Natsuru ran over to the digimon's side and was checking its body; the blue dragon was covered in bruises and had some blood present on its body as well. "V-mon, V-mon; are you ok", Natsuru asked with a worried tone as he gently shook the digimon's body. Stirring for a bit, V-mon slowly opened his eyes and looked up to see Natsuru; a smile appeared on his maw, "M-master." Closing his eyes, V-mon passed out into Natsuru's arms, as slow breaths of air was released from his mouth. "Oh, thank goodness that you're ok, V-mon", Natsuru whispered with a smile; "Wait, did he just call me master?" Staring down at the blue dragon, Natsuru was surprised to see that the digimon was about the same height as him, compared to how he looked when Natsuru played the game, but was just an inch shorter.
"So, I guess that means that I'm in the Digital World, huh." More rustling was heard coming from the shrubbery and who appeared next were the three black Goburimon who attacked, and chased V-mon. "Grrr, it's those three again." As their eyes gazed at the green dragon before them, the Goburimon raised their clubs as they got into a fighting stance. Natsuru growled through his teeth as he stood on his feet; he jumped back some distance and lied V-mon down by a tree, and went back over to the three black digimon. "I won't allow you three to hurt V-mon again", Natsuru said as he summoned forth his sword; "so come at me."
The Goburimon in the center was the first to strike, as it ran over to the dragon and swung its club, only for it to be deflected by Natsuru's sword. Angered by this, the Goburimon continued to relentlessly swing its club at Natsuru, only for the dragon to keep deflecting every strike, until the two were eventually locked in a stalemate. With Natsuru seemingly distracted, one of the other Goburimon decided to use that time to attack the dragon from the side, but Natsuru saw from the corner of his eye and just as the digimon got in range, Natsuru immediately kicked it away. After that, Natsuru ended the stalemate with the Goburimon he was dealing with by kicking it back too. Natsuru was then caught from behind by the other Goburimon, but the dragon elbowed the digimon in the face to get it off of him.
Stirring himself awake and focusing his attention on the fight before, V-mon gasped as he watched Natsuru dealing with the Goburimon. The blue dragon staggered to his feet and made his way over to Natsuru's side; surprising the dragon. "V-mon; what are you doing over here, you know it's too dangerous for you." The blue dragon didn't seem to care as he gritted his teeth at the black digimon, "no, I can...still fight." V-mon charged forward at one of the Goburimon as he was winding up a punch, "V-mon, wait, you're still injured", Natsuru called out. Within reach of the Goburimon, V-mon jumped at it as he shouted out, "BUNBUN PUNCH", but before he could land the hit, the Goburimon struck the blue dragon hard in the gut with his club. The digimon coughed out some blood as he was knocked back over to Natsuru's side, "V-MON", Natsuru shouted as watched the digimon's body twitched uncontrollably; it seemed like he was about to be deleted at any moment.
Seeing his digimon gravely injured than before, Natsuru growled at the three Goburimon as he was charging an attack in his left hand. Once fully charged the green dragon attacked the opposing digimon with large ball of twilight magic; knocking them back. The attack didn't seem to do much, but it was enough to distract them as Natsuru picked up V-mon, and ran off. The Goburimon; after shaking and rubbing their heads, got back to their feet and growled out in anger, as they started to chase after Natsuru. "M-master; why are you...running away...from them?" Natsuru's hold on V-mon was tightened a bit, "I'm not so much running away, as I'm just doing a strategic retreat. I have to find a safe place for you to rest and recover." V-mon groaned out in pain as he was being carried, "but...I can still...fight." "NO YOU CAN'T", shouted Natsuru; "you're far too injured to do anything and I really don't want you to die; I'll never forgive myself if that happened."
Checking left and right to find a safe place to hide, Natsuru eventually found a cave and made his way towards it. Upon entering, Natsuru looked around for a bit and could see that he could walk further within it. He did as such until he made it to what looked like rock like bedding. It felt smooth and easy to rest on, so he lied V-mon down on it, "now stay here while I go take care of those guys; I'm sure they must have caught up to us by now." With that all said and done, Natsuru had ran back outside of the cave, and what he had said was true; the three black Goburimon stood across from the dragon. With a firm hold on his sword, Natsuru got himself into a fighting stance, "you three really don't know when to give up; like I said before, you're all going to have go through me if you want to get to V-mon." After staring each other down, Natsuru and the three Goburimon charged at each other; their weapons ready for attack.
Back inside of the cave, V-mon was resting soundly until a bright red light had appeared; putting a cease to the digimon's rest. With what remaining strength he could muster, V-mon got off of bedding and walked over to where the light was. Once there he gasped upon seeing what the red light was radiating off of, some sort of red egg with a fire pattern and what looked to be a horn sticking out from it. His eyes were focused on the sun like symbol in the center of the egg, "no way, isn't this the...Digimental of Courage?" Upon holding it in his hands, the red light had gotten brighter and had enveloped V-mon entire body, "this light...it feels so...so warm", he remarked. As the light had dissipated, V-mon was surprised to see that all of his injuries had healed up; was this because of the Digimental of Courage, he wondered. Turning his attention to the passage that lead to the entrance of the cave, V-mon was thinking about going outside to show Natsuru that his wounds has healed, and maybe even help him out.
Speaking of Natsuru, back outside of the cave, the green dragon was slowly panting as he stared at defeated digimon on the ground. They weren't dead, just really knocked out and their clubs were hacked in half. "Hah...hah...now I hope...you three learned your lesson. Now off with you", Natsuru said as he started to walk back inside of the cave. It looked like everything was all done, but to the Goburimon it wasn't, as the three black digimon roared out as they staggered themselves up; eventually being enveloped in light. Natsuru seemed to have noticed this and turned himself around back to the Goburimon, and was shocked to see that the three black digimon were now replaced with three black Orgemon; looking even more menacing than the Goburimon and sporting a femur bone as their weapon. "No way; did they just change forms all of sudden?" One of the Orgemon attacked first by throwing his bone club at the dragon, which Natsuru effortlessly deflected away with his blade. However, he wasn't quick to deflect the other bone club that was thrown by one of the other Orgemon, was struck in the head, "AAAHHH", he shouted out in pain; blood dripping from his head. One of the Orgemon thrust its fist forward; shooting out a dark energy blast at Natsuru's abdomen; making the dragon clutch his abdomen as he fell to his knees.
Seeing the dragon in his defenseless state, the Orgemon surrounded Natsuru and one of them proceeded to kick him in the back of his head; knocking him to ground. From there, one of them stepped on the dragon's hand and the others started kicking him all over. At that moment, V-mon had exited out of the cave and to his horror saw Natsuru nearly getting the life beat out of him. And seeing that the digimon that were beating on the dragon were Orgemon, caused the blue dragon to take a step back, but he didn't run away. "There's no way I'll defeat those Orgemon, but there just has to be some way for me to help Master", he thought; not even noticing the red light was slowly starting to radiate from the digimental he continued to hold onto.
The Orgemon put a cease to their kicking of the dragon and raised their bone clubs high in the air, as they were ready strike them down upon Natsuru. V-mon went wide eyes at that, "IF ONLY I HAD MORE STRENGTH TO HELP", he shouted. Suddenly, the sun like symbol on the Digimental of Courage had glowed, and that same red light had erupted from it once again; enveloping the blue dragon in a tower of red light that had eventually turned into flames. The flames made the Orgemon back away from Natsuru, as they along with the green dragon watched V-mon covered In the flames, "oh no, V-mon", Natsuru said worried.
V-mon's skin was completely burned off of him; leaving him looking nothing more than grid lines in his form. "V-MON; ARMOR DIGIVOLVE TO...", the grid lines had grown into a taller figure; the flames later replacing them with the blue skin of the digimon. V-mon had grown an inch taller, sported a six pack, and was now wearing a chest plate, a helmet with a horn sticking out of it, gauntlets, kneepads, and what looked to be shoes; all of them having fire patterns on them. There were even three sets of mini belts tied on both of his arms. "... The Fire of Courage, Fladramon." The tower fire had dissipated after V-mon digivolved; showing off his new form to Natsuru and the Orgemon. Upon staring at him, Natsuru was speechless to see what had become of his digimon, "V-mon?"
End!
