The second chapter! I hope you enjoy ^.=.^
"Who the fuck is this?" shouted the tall grey wolf over the engine noise as Moran entered with Greg in tow and into the Blackouts fore-room. The wolf was dressed in the same type of orange suit, his tail enclosed as well. The only thing that betrayed his species was the fact that he had his helmet off resting at his hip. The wolf was a charcoal grey with thick fur that made him look fierce. His eyes were dark, which did nothing to help his ominous demeanor.
Moran shouted back over the engine noise "Be nice Rinor! This is Greg, the human on the station!"
Rinor grunted "I've noticed" he had a scowl on his wolfish face and he moved up to Greg and shook his hand roughly "'suppose being down here would be safer than up there eh?"
Greg smiled politely "I suppose, yes" the engine noise almost swallowed his voice.
Moran leaned in to Greg's side "I need to put my suit on. There's a visor for you in the change room, we use them to get rid of the engine noise when we speak and keep the fumes of the Blackout at bay. Follow Me."
Greg followed as Moran moved though the low hollow iron fore-room to one of two circular doors, leaving Rinor to depart in the direction they came. Moran hoisted the bolt on the left-most door and they both passed though. The moment Moran closed its heavy frame, the unrelenting hum of the engines vanished. It was like Greg could breathe again as the vibrating pressures abated.
The room looked like a standard office kitchen to Greg, though much larger. To his left were lockers stretching the entire length and Moran made his way to one of them and opened it "You will have to excuse us engineers, we don't necessarily change in a change room in the Blackouts. There's not enough space for it."
"Oh!" Greg realized what the dragon meant and turned around as Moran pulled his large suit from his locker and pulled of his purple clothing.
A minute later Moran tapped Greg on the shoulder "Here's your visor."
Greg turned to look at him. Moran wore a red suit that left absolutely nothing to the imagination for Greg. He couldn't help but notice the dragons muscular figure press against the ribbed rubber and fabric. Worst of all to avoid looking at was the monstrous bulge between his legs.
"This suit was made for getting into small spaces without getting hooked on something" Moran explained.
Greg swallowed and nodded "I can see that" he took the visor and Moran instructed him how to put it on. Moran did the same; the elongated helmet on his head had a black visor. The spectacle made Greg blush and he hoped his visor concealed it. The dragons' physique made his insides flutter.
They made it back out of the kitchen-room into the small iron fore room. The sound was considerably quieter and Greg could clearly hear Moran's breathing as if the dragon were leaning against him. There were two way radio systems within the helmets. Rinor was waiting for them and had changed from the orange suit to the same as Moran which as before, left nothing to the imagination. Unlike the dragon, Rinor was sleek and toned and Greg could see the form of his six-pack and strong v shape arcing down to his groin.
"You engineers seem a very fit bunch" Greg said.
"He's not going up too?" Rinor asked as his visor faced Greg, ignoring the compliment.
Moran shook his head "Only to the entrance, I don't need to go all the way in today, I'm on the new cycle"
Greg heard Rinor snort "Lucky you."
They passed through the second door which revealed a high chamber with pillars webbed with piping and moving parts. Eight of them in total that writhed mechanically like clockwork. Greg was awestruck by the immensity of the mechanical pillars and the sudden insecurity of his surroundings clutched him.
"There are eight reactors" explained Rinor as they moved down the narrow suspended walkway that split again and again until they webbed around the entire chamber. Greg made the mistake of looking over the railings only to see pitch darkness below.
"What's down there?" he asked as he shuddered and quickly averted his gaze.
Moran turned to him "Oil, it fills up the entire chamber when the station is in motion. Hence it's called the Blackout room"
Greg shivered as he looked down at the black abyss again, which he once more regretted. The idea of falling in made his stomach twist and the sensation of vertigo flickered.
Moran put his gloved hand out to him "Don't worry Greg, I won't let you fall. Nobody has ever fallen down there anyways."
He could hear Rinor grunt in agreement.
Greg grabbed the dragons' gloved hand, feeling a sense of relief looking at the black visor before him.
They continued past two of the reactors that vibrated with such intensity, Greg had to clamp his mouth to keep his teeth from chattering.
At the third reactor Moran and Greg took the pathway directly towards it and Rinor departed to the fourth one. The wolf casually saluted the two of them as he made his way out of view.
The pathway led them to a door that took them into a dull room lined with screens and a keyboard mounted on the wall with stainless steel keys. There was a small ladder moving up.
Moran turned to Greg "You all right?"
Greg nodded "Yes! This is incredible" he was truly amazed. It was like a wild adventure to him and the first moment of fear vanished into excitement when he knew Moran could be his sense of security.
Greg could hear Moran giggle in his visor "That's good. I'll need to go in for ten minutes then were at the computers for the rest of the shift. I'll show you how it all works then"
Just then, Rinors' voice filled Greg's visor and he jolted at the loud voice "Moran! Kiss and make up or change frequencies please! You guys are distracting me!"
"Will do!" Moran said casually as opposed to Greg's embarrassment and the dragon pressed a pad against his visor helmet.
Moran left Greg in the computer room as he climbed the stairs and disappeared into the reactor. Greg watched as the dragon shifted up the ladder, his muscular legs bulged in the red suit. All the while he could hear Moran grunting and breathing in his visor.
Finally it seemed Moran found his position and began working.
Then he spoke "So, Greg. We've known each other two days, already I have seen you naked but I don't know much about you..."
Greg grinned to himself "Well there's not much to tell. I was not born on earth; I was born in Earths Prime Station."
"Really?" Moran sounded surprised.
"Yes, and I visited earth often but always lived in the station because my mother had died given birth to me. The stations commander Adam raised me himself."
"And your father?" Moran asked. He stopped working to hear what Greg had to say.
He shook his head "A guy from earth I never knew"
"I'm sorry to hear that"
Greg didn't mind, he was happy to talk to Moran about it. The details of his past meant that he was, and Moran knew it, a lonely person. There were few who grew up being born in Prime Stations and having no distinguished nationality, tended to live lives outside of their respective communities. Worse still was that Greg had no family.
"I never would have guessed" said Moran "You seem a well-rounded person having lived such a childhood."
Greg took the comment well; the flutter of affection towards the dragon raced inside him once more "You could imagine how pleasant it is having met you then."
"I never knew much of my family either" Moran said, "military people... still are. Didn't care much for their child"
It was Greg's turn to apologize. Their revelations made their conversations more pleasant as they divulged into current and past memories. How General Adam was to Greg and how intolerant Moran's uncle was of him. Though they never broached at the hatred Captain Vaerin had for Moran.
Soon they both sat in the small room and Moran showed Greg all sorts of fantastic imagery detailing the construction of the reactors. The two hour shift went by quickly and they met Rinor on the suspended pathway before making it out of the Blackout. Along the way they met two other mechanics. Dragons; their gloved tails betrayed their species.
In the office-kitchen styled room the three of them finally took off their visors as Rinor closed the heavy door.
"Fuck me" Rinor said as his visor let out a hiss "hot down there today isn't it? They must be warming up the reactors already"
"Why?" Moran asked with evident surprise.
Rinor looked at Greg, then at Moran "Haven't you heard? The threat went offensive on Earths Prime Station"
"What?!" Greg snapped.
Moran placed a hand on Greg's shoulder to stop him from moving forward to the wolf. Rinor raised his hands apologetically "Sorry Greg, but the affront was pretty serious this time. I though you knew!"
"They called it Passive Arrest!" Greg retorted, disbelief marking his voice.
Now he was upset. Upset because he was the only human on this station and upset because Passive Arrest was mandatory protocol that was only initiated when the threats of any invader were definitely going to remain passive. The affront should have meant that Greg would be taken to Earths Prime station instead of this one, Station M28.
"And it's my fucking fault is it?" snapped Rinor, his fur seemed to puff up threateningly.
Greg caught himself "Sorry Rinor"
The wolf let down his hands "Earth is safe, it's only outside the planets boarders where there's concern. But it means we will all be here for longer than expected."
Moran stood between them and looked at Greg "are you all right?"
Greg did not look up at the dragon, he wanted to find a place to hide and sulk. Moran seemed to understand how he felt and turned to Rinor "I don't think I will stay today"
The wolf nodded and shrugged "I understand"
Moran coaxed Greg from the room and up the stairs to the corridor where his room was. They walked in silence as the steady hum slowly faded away. Only their steps echoed loudly in the dim hallway. After following the dull hallway for a few minutes, they entered Moran's room who led Greg to sit at the edge of the large bed.
"I think I'll make us something to drink" Moran said softly.
Greg nodded and conceded to move out of the trepidation of his current situation and look around at the pictures again. Moran opened a panel on the wall that revealed a kitchenette of sorts and he began to prepare whatever it was he had. Greg finally noticed that there was the same dragon in several of the pictures above the bed. A stout, built black dragon. Not as built as Moran, but overly handsome by Greg's personal standards. One picture that caught his attention was the black dragon and Moran standing side by side grinning at the camera. Moran had his hand on the small of the black dragons back. Greg took note of it, the same thing Moran did to him a few times.
"Who's that?" he asked, pointing at the picture.
Moran looked and Greg saw his silver eyes glint as he smiled "Durian! He was a very close friend of mine"
"Ah!" Greg looked back at the picture with even more interest "where is he?"
Moran stirred a spoon in one of the two cups he had filled with boiling water "we were both engineers when I was younger. My uncle deported him to another station after we became friends"
Greg frowned "So... this is the relationship he didn't approve of?"
"Yes" Moran said simply as he picked up the cups and brought it to Greg. He thanked him and took a sip of the yellow liquid. It tasted like lime with the sourness gone, he enjoyed it.
They sat in silence until their drinks were done. Greg was in no mood to talk, and the topic of Moran's relationship seemed a sensitive one.
Finally Moran wrinkled his snout and said "We need to get these fumed suits off of us"
Greg sniffed and noticed the pungent metallic smell that clung onto them. Moran moved to the closet and retrieved Greg's clothes he hung up before they went to the Blackout.
"You can shower first if you like, and then I can take the suits in for cleaning"
Greg stood with him and smiled "I'd like that, thanks"
Moran smiled back. He passed him his clothes and Greg made it to the showers where he stripped down. Leaning around the corner and covering him-self in case Moran should walk in "Can I give you the suit?"
Moran appeared in view and was out of his suit with a white towel wrapped around his waist. Greg could not help but look him over but glanced off in the hopes the dragon would not notice, too shy to display his interests. He was human after all. The affections Greg had for Moran might be strange. Moran laughed "You're not so badly built yourself you know. Did you work out at earths Prime Station?"
Greg tossed the suit at Moran who caught it and he disappeared round the corner. He could help but smile at the dragons interests "I worked in stock; lots of labour in that department."
He heard Moran reply "Ah! You look good! Not like most humans prone to unhealthy physiques"
Greg's smile broadened as he turned on the shower "Thanks!"
He enjoyed the warm shower, and when finished he dried himself and put on his clothes. His shoes he would put on sitting at Moran's bed, so he held them in his left hand.
As he walked out Moran stood before him, clasping the side of his towel so it would not fall. The dragon moved past him, nudging him with the thick shoulder "All clean?"
"Yes thanks"
"I ordered lunch on my intercom; the engineers have their own kitchen service after their shift. Answer the door if you can, we can eat here. The canteen will be too full now."
Greg nodded "Okay"
He sat on the bed as Moran went in to shower. Just as he finished lacing his shoes, there was a knock on the door.
Greg stood and went to open it. A hulking dragon stood before him with a brown parcel under his left arm, he was taller than Moran and rather fatter than most dragons. The grey scaled dragon peered down at the human with surprise "'the fuck you doing down here human?"
Greg took a step back, the dragon leaned in as his voice box combined with his guttural language made it hard for Greg to catch what he was saying.
Greg could only stammer "I... I'm with Moran"
The dragon snorted "Shit... the fuck's he doing with a wretched creature like your-self?"
Greg shrunk at that. Behind him Moran said in a low warning growl "Sev, step back"
The dragon looked past Greg "There's a fuckin' human in your quarters" looking back at Greg he snarled, "What? Is he your new toy after Durian left?"
Greg took another step back. Moran calmly walked to the door and in front of Greg and said "Thanks for bringing the parcel Sev"
Sev's face contorted into fury, but he only slammed the box into Moran's bare chest and mumbled "If that little fucker crosses my way without you he's going to have a problem" looking over Moran's shoulder at Greg he said "glad to see he's got another place to stick his cock after Durian left him. Even though it's a fucking human" looking at Moran he snarled "your behavior disgusts me, you know that?"
Greg could feel himself swell with shock and disgust, glowering at Sev who only found it amusing.
Moran calmly said "Enjoy your day Sev"
He pushed the door closed, bumping Sev's snout. But the dragon did not react, only swear and walk off.
Greg looked at Moran with disbelief "You didn't do anything?!" Moran smiled at him and passed him the parcel "If I did, you would be in more danger because of it" he laughed slightly "and he wouldn't dare go for me anyways"
Greg accepted the box and Moran moved to the kitchenette. The original glint Greg saw in his eyes was gone and he looked drained. That small confrontation with Sev, Greg realized, might not have been the first one and most certainly wasn't just hate speech and insults.
"Durian was your partner?" Greg noted "I didn't know dragons had partners like that"
"He was, and dragons don't normally. That's why my uncle moved him away."
Greg was surprised. He had never heard of Dragonkin in any relationships besides their opposite sex. The weight of significance of the pictures above the bed hit Greg hard. Moran seemed uncomfortable about that and Greg quickly said "that's horrible!"
It was an attempt to display that Greg was on Moran's side with the issue.
"He left me though... in the end" Moran continued as he re-collected the box from Greg and placed it on the table "my uncle helped, but in the end Durian had a choice to leave the station with me or without..."
Greg summed up the courage to move closer to Moran and placed his hand on the small of the dragon's scaly back. He was still wet from the shower and surprisingly hot to the touch.
He felt the dragon's body relax as he laughed "No matter!" he said standing up and the glint returned in his eyes "it's of the past"
"And you have me now" Greg risked saying, "Even if they don't like it and I am human" he patted his hand on Moran's back.
The dragons silvery eyes looked at Greg with surprise "I do?" he smiled and ruffled Greg's hair with his clawed hand, "open the parcel for us while I get dressed" he said. Greg watched as the dragon walked back into the bathroom, his long tail dragging behind him and leaving water all over the floor. Greg laughed to himself. Looking at the dragon made him happy. Even though there was bad news of home, he decided that it did not matter. Earth was not really his home anyways and if there was someone he could admire and spend time with anywhere in the universe, he would take it. And he was fortunate to have that opportunity at that very moment.
That's the second chapter!
