Pack Chapter 2
#2 of Pack
Second chapter here. I'm actually surprised I had time to finish this, but hope you guys enjoy this chapter.
Adam sighed as his sister dragged him through the village by the scruff of his neck. He knew she would be pissed off, but he had to knock her out. She wouldn't approve of him going to Artem for help, but he had no choice thanks to the humans. Adam looked around seeing members of the pack whispering and giggling as they passed them. "Looks like we're going to be gossip material for a while Myra." In response Myra tugged harder on his scruff causing him to yelp. He growled a bit. "You don't have to drag me; I do know how to walk on my own." Again she tugged hard on his scruff.
"Yes I do know dear brother. But this is more enjoyable for me to drag you like the naughty pup you are. His ears perked up in anger after hearing that. 'She's treating me like one of her rebellious pups after they get in trouble.' He thought to himself before seeing the beta huts. His eyes widened as he looked up at Myra knowing what was coming next. She had a slight grin on her muzzle as they neared their parents' hut. Myra finally stopped in the center of the huts before limbering up for what was coming next.
"You wouldn't dare. You promised not to do this anymore!" Adam whined as he knew what was coming next. She made it tradition throwing him into their parents' hut every time he got into trouble. She looked at him with a big toothy grin before picking him up. "Oh come on Myrabelle! I know you're pissed, but is this really necessary?!" He flailed his arms and legs frantically trying to loosen her grip. Myra started to run before tossing him straight into their parents' hut.
Adam yelled as he flew into the hut and crashed into his father who was sitting down. Adan slumped against his father's chest who had let out a small grunt after being slammed into. Adam looked up at his father and gave him a shaky grin. His father sighed and shook his head. "What did you do this time Adam?" Adam slowly got up only to be slammed back to the ground by his sister's foot. His sister growled at him a bit before composing herself and smiling at their mother and father. "So what did he do this time Myra?" Their father asked again slowly shaking his head trying hard to suppress a chuckle. Myra picked Adam up by the scruff and slowly waved him from side to side.
"Well father our dear little trouble maker here made a deal with Artem." Both their parents' eyes went wide after hearing that. Myra smiled and dropped Adam to the floor again. He glared at his sister, but it was short lived as his ears went flat against his head under the angry gaze of his parents. His father stood up and snarled at him
"What would compel you to strike a deal with that arrogant old snake?!" Adam winced as his father snapped at him. His father crossed his arms and continued to stare at his son. "I'm waiting for an answer Adam!" Adam sighed as he stood up and looked at his father directly in the eyes.
"While going to get water for the festival tonight I saw human hunters from the village nearby. I followed them and saw they had placed large amounts of wolfs bane in our water supplies." As he explained this his father's glare softened a bit, but did not fade. "As I contemplated what to do next Myra found me. After explaining to her what had happened she wanted to come back here, but I knew only Artem would have what we needed to cleanse the waters. So I knocked her out with a bucket, went to Artem and started the change in a human village boy and got fresh water from him and cleansing orbs as well. The rest after that you already know." After explaining Adam stood tall and stared at his father ready to be torn into verbally.
For a while nothing was said and silence enveloped the tent. As if to break the tension and silence Adam's mother spoke up. "Dear, Even though Adam went to Artem instead of us first he did show good skill as a leader." Adam's father shifted his attention to his mate and raised his eyebrow at her. "Think about it from his perspective dear. He had not been acknowledged as a man yet so he has no knowledge of our ways to purify water of wolfs bane. With no knowledge of this the only option left was Artem." She looked her son and smiled. "He also showed great foresight in asking for water with the means to purify our own supplies. Even with our means it would still take a full day for the water to be cleansed. Looking at it from his angle he just saved the future of this pack." She pointed outside and Adam's father stepped outside the tent to look. He saw everyone in the pack gathered in the center of the huts. They all looked to the sky and he did as well. He saw that the moon was almost in the center of the sky. The festival would begin shortly. He moved back into the hut and looked at his son. "We're going to see that old snake Adam."
Adam looked shocked. "But what about the festival?" His father just grinned before placing a claw on his forehead. A blue light enveloped Adam and his father before converging on their right shoulder forming a paw print. Adam looked at the mark still confused. "This still doesn't answer my question. I thought no one could miss the festival."
His parents' chuckled as he said this. "Normally yes, but in times of emergency I'm allowed to exempt two pack members from the festival." Adam's father walked up to him and placed his left arm around Adam's shoulder. "C'mon son, let's see how much trouble you've gotten yourself into." Adam nodded as he walked with his father to go see Artem.
Myra and her mother waved goodbye as the two males left. Then Myra's mother turned to her and cracked a big grin. "Myra the great huntress bested by a pup and his bucket?" She started to laugh seeing the embarrassment in her daughter's face.
Adam walked nervously with his father as they made their way through the forest. Adam looked to his father to see he still had a stern, but amused look on his face. The young wolf sighed as they walked wondering how this meeting was going to go. His father looked to him and he could feel a smile beaming at him.
"Don't be so nervous son. You're taking responsibility here and should be proud." Adam looked up to his father with a shocked look. His father chuckled and continued to talk. "The only thing you need to worry about is what Artem wants or stands to gain from all this." Adam nodded and then looked ahead to see that they reached the outskirts of the human village.
Adam's father crouched down and slowly moved through the brush with Adam following close behind. Both slowly moved through the outer perimeter of the village. Adam's father put a hand on Adam's chest signaling for him to stop. Adam looked confused until his father pointed towards a cloaked figure with a crossbow in hand heading to the forest. Adam recognized the human figure as Artem's assistant. "Father that human his Artem's assistant. She was with him when I bit the boy." His father glared in the direction where the woman entered the forest.
"Then let's follow her to her master." He growled out as he motioned for Adam to follow. They moved quickly and quietly through the brush till they reach the spot the woman entered the woods. Both wolves picked up on her scent quickly and Artem's as well. "Be ready Adam. That old snake is going to test our reflexes." Adam cocked his head in confusion till he took another whiff of the scents. Both scents had a taste of tension and excitement as if ready for combat. "You ready son?" Adam nodded at his father's question as they slowly walked into the woods. They walked for a while keeping an ear and nose out for any signs of trouble. Soon they reached a clearing where they heard a branch break and an overwhelming sense of danger.
Three arrows flew from the tree line, two headed towards Adam while the last one headed for his father. Adam caught one arrow and dodged the other one. Adam's father growled as he caught the arrow and immediately threw it back from where it was shot. They heard a woman's scream as Artem's assistant fell from her hiding spot with an arrow protruding from her shoulder. Adam's father rushed towards her stopping right in front of her face baring his fangs at her. "Where the hell is that lecherous old snake that you call a master at?" Artem's assistant pointed behind him and he looked to see Artem standing next to Adam smiling. "There you are you fucking cunt!" He raced towards the elderly human and snapped his fangs right in front of Artem's face.
Artem just smiled at the wolf. "My my Krimson still angry at me are we?" He continued to grin as he walked past Krimson to his cloaked assistant and helped her up. He pulled the arrow out and bound her shoulder with gauzes. He gave her a quick once over before dusting the dirt off of her. He cleared his throat before turning to the two wolves. "Follow me a little further into the glade. The guest of honor is waiting for us there." Artem walked past his assistant who followed him immediately deeper into the forest. Krimson glared at the elderly human before slowly following him. Adam gulped nervously before walking after his father. As they followed the humans Adam looked to his father, who was still seething with anger.
"Father why do you hate Artem so much?" Kirmson looked to his son and sighed.
"It's a long story son. Best saved for another time." Adam gave his father a perplexed look, but decided against pushing the matter any further. They finally reached their destination in a forest clearing that was bathed in moonlight. In the middle of the clearing sat Artem talking to a young purple furred wolf. Both turned to look at Adam and Krimson as they approached. Krimson looked at the young canine and gave him a soft look. "So is this the boy you had my son turn?" Adam had a dumbstruck look on his face at how fast the changed happened even with Artem slowing it down with the spices.
Artem smiled at Adam's dumbstruck look before nodding to Krimson. He stood up and helped the young wolf to his feet as well. "Yes this is Michael. I asked your son to turn him because his family has been cruel to him. His father rapes him, his mother ignores him, and his two older brothers abandoned him when they fled from their parents' grasp." Artem looked at Krimson who had tears in his eyes after hearing all this. Michael shifted uncomfortably and grasped onto Artem's hand tightly. Artem squeezed Michael's paw to reassure him. "I had your son change him so he may know love and support from a kind and loving family. There is also potential for him to be a great healer for your pack." Artem motioned for his assistant to come to him. He whispered something into her ear. She nodded and started walking into the direction of the village. Before leaving she bowed to Krimson and ran off to the village. "I know you well Krimson. You're thinking that I'm doing all of this in order to gain something correct?" Krimson glared at him, but nodded. "The only thing I wish to gain from all of this is to make sure Michael is safe and happy. I also want to regain the trust I lost long ago with your pack. I hope that you will see that I only wish to help you and your kind." Artem finished with a sad look on his eyes.
Krimson's glared softened as he sighed and snorted at the thought. "I highly doubt I can ever trust you again, but this is a good start to building trust with my son." Krimson walked over to Michael who blushed and looked down. Krimson smiled and offered his paw to him. "Come with me Michael. I know this may seem strange and frightening, but I want to help you. I want you to show you what a real loving family is like." Michael looked up to Krimson with hope in his eyes before pulling away from Artem and taking the elder wolf's paw. Krimson smiled as he led the wolf to where Adam was waiting with a smile on his muzzle. Krimson turned to face Artem. "You were right to do this Artem. I hate to admit it but you do have good judgment on these matters. But I want to make one thing clear with you. If you ever betray my son's trust in any way possible or attempt to jeopardize my pack; my family. The last thing you'll ever see is your headless body! Got it?!" Krimson glared at Artem one last time before turning to smile at Adam and Michael as they walked away.
Artem smiled hearing this. "I wouldn't dream of it old friend." Krimson rolled his eyes after hearing that. Artem continued to smile as the meeting went better than expected. However as he turned to face his home his expression became sour. "Might as well get the nasty business over with and end those hooligans' lives." He sighed as he slowly walked towards the village. As he walked he envisioned of the ways to make the young fools suffer and a wicked grin spread across his face as he walked into the village.
