Chapter 1

~From Heaven To Hell~

*honk honk honk* the sound of a car alarm going off in the distance, smoke riseing into the cloud filled sky. The city was set ablaze like hell's fire's had risen from the ground, abandoned buildings lay quiet with the echo's of people's memories and forgoten animals. I couldn't believe what our world had become, it was no longer the paradise we create for ourselves. It was a jail cell for the living, and a playground for the dead. I will tell you now of how our beautiful world became the deads new toy.

"RENISA!" our school teacher yelled from the front, i quickly raised my head in surprise and grogley looked at the teacher with a sleepy look on my face. " Yes?!" I said worriedly, "What is the answer to question 5?" I looked down and realized again that i was in art history class. I rose from my chair and read the question out loud then answered it, " Who was the first painter and known artist of all time?" I answered " It was Leonardo Devinchi" I then sat down and rubbed my eyes awake, the teacher sighed and shook her head. " I would appriciate it if you didn't sleep in class miss Jade, weather you get your answers right or not" " Sorry Mrs Takanagi!" I said stretching my arms into the air and wakeing myself up. As i lay my hands back down on my desk i feel a slight jab of a pencil in my back, i turn around to face Tanya. One of my best friends since elementary school, "Hey Renisa!" she whispered. "Can i?-" I raised my hand a bit to stop her question and handed her my notes, "Hurry!" i mermered. She smiled and started to copy my notes down for herself, she wasn't the brightese light bulb in the pack but she was a great friend. She saved my life after all, I was about to cross the road from my secondary school and she pulled me outta the way of a speeding car. I have yet to repay her back for that time, but she seems content with just my friendship. She then passed me back my book when i realized someone outside the classroom window, "Hey Tanya look!" I pointed out. Tanya followed my fingers veiw and saw the man now too, he stumbled towards the front gate that was shut at all times cept for the morning, lunch time, and after school. He collapsed at the gate and had his face hidden, 'whats wrong with him?' i thought and raised my hand to the teacher. "Yes Miss Jade?" I then pointed at the man out front again, " There's a man outfront collapsed at the gate, he seems in trouble!" the teacher went to the window and sighed. " I will be right back class, stay put till i get back" she insisted and went out the door. "Wonder what his problem is?" said Tanya behind me " I don't know" I said back, but i had this weird feeling in my gut. A feeling like something bad was gonna happen, like something was gonna end. I shook my head to get those thoughts outta my head, as i then noticed our teacher with the principal heading towards the passed out man at the gate.

" Excuse me sir this is private property of the school board, what may i ask is your buisness here?" the man did not budge or even make a sign of movement " Sir! i must insist you leave, you are scareing the children!" the principal said with more furiousness and nudged that man, the man's head then flimsed back and our teacher gave out a loud holler. We all flung to the window and watched from inside the school, " Omg!" our principal said as he got closer to the man and checked his pulse. Dead. The principal shook his head in dibelief and went to back away when something caught his hand. It was the courpse on the gate!, our principal started to yell as he tryed to get away. The dead man then pulled the principal clear through the gate, graveing the principals back with the gate spikes on the bottom causeing him to bleed out. "OMG!" Tanya screamed as the rest of the class started to panic. The class was mortified what was the man doing? why did he drag the principal from under the gate, the man then 'layed on the principal and nudged the body a bit. We stared even more intently out the window and our teacher picked up a branch from one of the cherry trees out front and placed it through the gate hitting the man over the head as best she could, the man then linched over and the teacher backed away from the gate. We watched for a bit till we notice our principal get back up, we saw now that the man was eating the principal!. His guts were flaying outside of his body and he was reaching through the gate towards the teacher, she screamed and ran towards the school. I just stood there wide eyed and in shock, what was happening?. I didn't get it, today seemed normal enough. What was going on? what should i do? Alot of thoughts went through my head for those few seconds till i heard Tanya's voice yell out my name, " Renisa! we have to get out of here!" she pulled me to the door into the hallway and ran towards the courtyard. The rest of the class ran up the stairs or towards the back doors, we ran to the basement. " Tanya why are we here?" Tanya then baracadded the door and looked out the basement window, and shook on the spot. " U-um Renisa....you m-might wanna see this" I gave her a 'what?' type look and stood on a chair to look outside. I was horrified by what i saw, and shocked. Everyone was fighting eachother, some of the people didn't seem normal. I turned around and sat down on the chair i stood on, "What....THE fuck?!" i said aloud as Tanya came closer to me. "What the hell is going on here?, and Tanya.." "Yes?" she said putting he hand on my shoulder. " why a basement?" I said with a dull expression on my face, Tanya scratched her head and gave a 'heh heh' expression. "It seemed like the best spot to be heh heh" I grinned half way and stood up on the chair again, i realized there was smoke coming from the other side of the school gates. I looked over at were the principal was now standing still reaching and trying to crawl through the gates, what was he? what had he become? what did that man do to him? was he the same?. I Then saw another one like the principal with a missing arm come towards the gate and try reaching through with his other arm. We soon heard knocking at the door, and one familiar voice. It was Eva.

We heard Eva's voice yelling from the other side soon after we noticed what was happening outside, "Guys! it's me Eva!, i saw you two come down here please open up!" I then ran for the door as Tanya still sat there curled into her chair. When i opened it Eva leaped into my arms, and looked back at Tanya. " Oh thank goodness you two are okay!..."Eva said "whats happening Reny?!" I closed the door and barricaded it again. "I don't know...theres two of those...monsters at the gate they are trying to reach in towards the school....were is everyone else?" Eva shrugged " I don't know but i found the teacher and she told me to run for home!, but i couldn't leave without you guys!" " Why would she tell us to run home?" I asked Eva she shrugged and said " The only thing she mumble was it's the end of the world" then that feeling in my gut came back, i then realized why i had that feeling. It was the end. But what were these things that were eating everyone? they looked human, and apparently we can be turned into one. I knew i wouldn't wanna become one of them. I then looked around the room, I soon found some wood and a baseball bat lying around. "Tanya!" I called to her from the other end of the basement, she looked up with the horrified look on her face remembering the look of those things trying to get into the school. But tryed to stay as calm as possible "Yes?.." she asked me shakeing. "Take this...it should make a great weapon for you" She then got up out of the chair, and walked steadly towards me. She took the bat from my hands, and looked it up and down. Tanya was a winning baseball player, not many people would think that due to how preppy she dresses. But i can vouch for her, that how she dresses is NOT how she acts. "I think i like it" she started to brighten up a bit and started swinging the bat in the open area, I then took the other peices of wood and found an old sander. It was battery runned. So i rushed as fast as i could to make the weapons i wanted to, as i did not know how old or new the batteries were. I sanded the wood down to the shape between a bat and a paddle, i then added some nails from the ground and hammered them in with a smaller peice of wood. Tanya soon got used to swinging the bat i had handed her higher and lower then she is used to, Evalina watched me make the weapons and had a confused look on her face. I finished the weapons and handed the extra one to Eva, "Here, this one is for you...can you hit?" I asked her with a 'are you sure?' face and she nodded. "Yes but....what may i ask are we hitting?" she asked, she still hadn't seen what was going on outside. "Me and Tanya couldn't see much from that window, but we saw enough....that corpse is a sign....and i doubt that front gate is the only one with a corpse outside it" I then unblocked the door " We are not dying here, I refuse to!" I walked back over to Tanya and took her shoulder, " You ready?" Tanya gave me the bat. Put her hands over her eyes and thought, she gave a deep breath and took the bat back. " I'm not saying i'm ready for this, but i refuse to end up like the principal yet!" she said placeing the bat over her shoulder, I then looked back at Eva and she nodded with us " I'm not a fighter, but i don't wanna end up like the principal the principal either...so i will be strong". We then went outside the basement door and started to climb the stairs, we were going to figure this all out and live, no matter what!.

I made it to the top first, i stopped and signaled for my friends to form a single line behind me. I then peeked slowly around the corner, nothing. No one was there, not even one of those 'corpses'. I then stepped out into the hallway and looked behind the other wall, and also noting was moveing. I signaled to my friends and we started down the south hallway on the other side of the second wall, we kept our running steps light and as quiet as possible. We soon made it to the back door towards the parking lot, I crouched behind the door and opened it up enough to look both ways. I then heard everything happening outside the walls, screams, smoke riseing into the sky, and gun shots. How was this all happening and we didn't hear anything till now?, why hadn't the police called us?, warned us? I stopped pondering my thoughts and told my friends to form a triangle to cover all angles, we slowly made our way to my car. I was surprised when i passed my drivers test, cause my mind would go blank when i would try to answer something. But i amazingly got them all right, and i am the only one of my friends that drives. Eva gets to nervous, and Tanya finds car's dirty. In all sences of the word, yes Tanya cares about something, the Earth. We made it to my car and i scrounged into my pocket for my keys, thats when we heard it. A small groan from two cars down, Eva put her hands to her mouth and we all ducked beside my car. "Omg, what do we do????" Eva said now shivering " we need to stay together, stay low, and follow my lead", staying low i put the key into the car door and turned it slowly. I then opened the door, we heard the 'thing' groan a bit louder but calm down. I then crawled into the drivers seat and unlocked all the doors, my friends did the same and i started the car. Thats when the groan turned into a growle, and i reversed towards the wall of the school when i saw it. The things we first called well 'Things', we now relized they were 'zombies' a virus infected human that re-animates a dead body. This zombie was missing his lower jaw, and we could see clear inside his chest, it was horrific. I put the 'peddle to the metal' as the old sayings goes, and ran over the thing. I then raced out of the parking lot and towards Eva's home, i knew she had a steel enforced bomb shelter.

We went outside the parkinglot gates, and was shown a horrific scene. Zombies eating other people, and people fighting for there lives defending there homes from the now living dead. "This is so horrible! why us?! why now?!" said Eva in the back seat shakeing with fear, "I don't know Eva, we just have to survive and find out won't we" Tanya nodded in agreement with me and we drove on. Not that i was a big car junky but i worried everytime about my car everytime i hit a zombie infected, I didn't want it to break down in the middle of a horde of these infected crazy people. We soon made it to Evalina's house, I rolled down my window and looked up and down the sreet. I could only notice a few of them from a distance eating someone, I then opened my door slowly as my friends did the same. And walked towards the front gate to her house, Eva unlocked the front gate then we quickly scurried inside the bricked walled in house and re-closed the gate. The gate was silver colored and about the height of a 6 foot person, it had intricate designs as if vines were mean't to climb up the gate with roses on the end. So we were pretty safe at Eva's place, for now. We then looked at Eva for the key to her place, she curled her hands towards eachother into her chest. "Ummm...sorry guys...i forgot my keys inside today...i certainly didn't expect all this to happen!" we shrugged and probably would have said the same thing if we forgot something important "But my little brother should be home!, he was sick today" "what about your parents?" asked Tanya " I don't know...my moms a lawer and my dad's an accountant...they come home at random times to me...they could be home" I decided to take the chance and knock on the door, "Hello anyone home?" I hollared quietly. I soon heard little foot steps come down a pair of stairs and towards the door, the door then opened slowly and a small boys head peeked out. When he noticed who we were, he shut the door again undid the dead lock and opened it all the way " Sister!!" he said excitedly and leaped onto Eva hugging her to the ground "Lil bro!, were's mom and dad?" He then got up as did Eva " They came home early thank god, and went down to the basement to grab all the food for the bomb shelter. " I don't think that bomb shelter will work forever..." I said " I don't mean to dissapoint you but i really think we should find more survivors...the more of us there are, the more chances of us to survive in this....Hell hole...pardon my french" I explained, and everyone around started to realize i was soon gonna be right. We went quickly inside and Eva went down to the basement to get her parents and let them know she was okay, I took the cans of food i noticed on the kitchen table and started to count how many of each kind of food. Tanya stood guard at the kitchen window, the only window in the house faceing the gate out front.
