Grimoire: Book of Necromancy Prologue
Xavier Ashton Hiems was a peaceful and loving kid.
He lived with his mother in a small village, he didn't know his father since the man left when Xavier was just a baby.
Their village was located near the borders of the kingdom of Eternia.
The name of the kingdom was given due to its people facing many dangers in the past, but the kingdom stood still.
Like an invincible tower, unshakable by any kind of force, standing eternally tall.
All though he wasn't the type to cause trouble, Xavier manages to attract it wherever he goes.
He was constantly bullied by the village's children and shunned by the adults, even his mother began treating him poorly.
All because his father was a sorcerer.
Magicians and alchemists were treated like any other person, but sorcerers were like a plague that must be exterminated just because their magic was more dangerously physical, and they have the capabilities of both alchemists and magicians, making them more powerful than the two separated.
But Xavier didn't think like the rest, he met a sorceress once, and she wasn't like the people described.
He tried to tell the people that not all sorcerers were bad or evil and that they shouldn't judge or punish the collective for the wrongdoings of a few.
But that kind of thinking is what put him in his situation now.
Running away from the village people in the middle of the night, his breath getting heavier with every step he took.
"THIS WAY. I SAW HIM RUN THIS WAY"
He tried to run faster, to force more power into his legs.
But the goddess of fate had other things in mind.
He skidded slightly to a halt, almost falling off a cliff.
He was panting for breath, looking frantically around for another way around.
"There you are, you little abomination!!"
Again lady luck just didn't want to smile on him tonight.
He turned around slowly, to face the angry expressions of the villagers.
"Nowhere to run now you freak" the village chief, a slightly elderly looking man spoke.
Xavier was left with simply trying to talk his way out of this, "Please everyone, we can talk this through, I did nothing wrong, and whatever I did do I will apologize for, and--"
"SILENCE!!"
From the looks of it, he wasn't going to leave alive, or unscathed at least.
"Your kind shouldn't be born in this world, you're nothing but leeches sucking away the blood of this beautiful kingdom" The chief leveled a crossbow at Xavier, "But now, we get the chance to get rid of one"
"Wait"
Everyone turned to look at a middle aged woman coming from behind the chief.
Xavier's mother.
"Mother thank god you came, please tell them that they are wrong, I'm not a sorcerer"
But she fixed him with the look of hatred.
"Mother?"
She took the crossbow from the chief, aiming it herself at Xavier.
"Quiet you monster. I'm not your mother, I will finally be free from your torture and evil" She began to tear up, "I suffered so much at your hands, now I can finally be free"
That riled the villages even more. Their shouts of anger could be heard from a distance.
Xavier couldn't believe what he was hearing, how could his mother lie so calmly like this.
He was so stunned, that he didn't feel the arrow pierce his heart.
The force pushed him off the cliff, and he fell into the dark depths bellow.
As he was falling, a faint voice was calling for him.
"Hey. Hey. Hey. HEY WAKE UP!!"
Xavier opened his eyes, to find himself sitting in a small forest, resting his back on a tree.
"You're finally up" A almost squeaky voice sounded in his head, just as a miniature figure 'popped' beside him.
It was an imp shaped creature, with black body, bat like wings and spear tail, it's hands were slightly bigger than itself, the legs were digitigrades resembling hind paws without the pads and it's face was the upper part of a human shaped skull mask with horns, without the lower jaw.
He turned to the small imp, "Morning Grim, still a loud mouth first thing in the morning"
"Well if you woke up faster, I wouldn't be such a 'loudmouth'."
Xavier stood up and stretched, the dream was a memory of what happened three years ago, now at the age of 16, he was looking taller, he was wearing a black and silver shirt and pants, a black feather mantle with a hood, and a bandage on his left arm resting just below the elbow.
When he finished stretching, his eyes glowed a mischievous and evil green.
"So Grim, I was training for three years....you think I'm ready for this kind of power?"
The imp floated beside his head, reclining back in the air, his legs crossed, and arms behind his head, "Well in my opinion, you're more than ready" Grim's eyes gave a faint crimson glow, "But there is only one way to find out"
Upon words, Xavier gave a mad grin, exposing rows of monstrously sharp teeth, and his eyes changed to sharp bestial slits, glowing intensely with an ominous green.
He pulled his hood over his head and walked a few feet, to look at a small village in a distance.
His old home.
"You think they will be surprised when they see me now?" Xavier looked towards the village with an evil smile on his face.
"One thing is for certain: they will learn to fear you. Them and many others who dare stand in our way"
That's right, no one will stand in his way, and all who will is going to be crushed like an insect.
They will all fear him as the Lich Rogue, the Messenger of Death.
But they will tremble at the mention of one name.
The Crow Father.
