"Filthy creatures."
Addrian strolled down the sidewalk of a crowded street, jacket flung over his shoulder. He could feel the disapproving and lustful gazes of every man and woman he passed. Addrian had to smile. 70 years in this miserable city and causing a stir never failed to amuse him. Mortals were such easily riled creatures, always becoming flustered over the most trivial of subjects. Some just didn't know how to get their heads out of the sand and just enjoy themselves. That disgusting wolf had opened up a bit after Addrian had stooped to grinding his behind up to his crotch.
[Ugh, I'm going to be washing myself of his 'essence' for days.]
The Fox scornfully thought to himself. It had been worth it though; He could smell the sweet scent of that wolf's blood even through the stenches of sweat, sex and alcohol culminating in that club. Addrian licked a spot of excess blood off of his lip. He murred deep in his throat at the taste: it was like a fine red wine, only a thousand times sweeter with a coppery tang. The moment the vermillion nectar of life had washed over his tongue, it sent spots dancing before his eyes, spiralling him into an almost orgasmic high.
[You only come across those every 30 years.]
He thought. A couple and their young cub passed Addrian by. The mother covered her son's eyes, the father shot Addrian a murderous look.
[Ooh. Just as well looks can't kill. Heh heh heh!]
Of course if the people's faces didn't say anything, the voices within their minds always told a story to Addrian.
"... Aww man, put a shirt on!..."
"... Great, as if this town needs more fags..."
"... Dear lord! Is that a navel piercing?..."
"... Ohh God, he is sooo hot!..."
"... Please God, let him be single..."
"... Mmm, I'd love to get a piece of that ass!..."
Addrian shut the voices out before they became overwhelming. The stir he had caused in the public was almost as satisfying as that wolf's blood. In case you haven't figured it out yet, Addrian loved being the center of attention.
On the outskirts of the city was an old tuscan villa by the name of Castel de Evangelina. Alessandro Giovarni had migrated to the states from Florence in the hopes that he might be able to make a better life for himself and his family. Using the vast fortune he had amassed through a lucrative merchant business, he almost single-handedly built the 82 roomed villa. Tragically, halfway through the construction Alessandro's dear wife had passed away in the night. No one was sure how it happened. Servants had discovered her in her bedchambers, the color drained from her face and two mysterious puncture marks on her neck. Distraught, Alessandro vowed that he would complete the villa and make it even grander than he had originally planned. In her memory, he would name the villa Castel de Evangelina after his beloved wife. After almost 17 years, the villa was finally completed but at a terrible cost. Alessandro's only son had also been lost to a mysterious demise. Alessandro was the only member of his family left. With the city's populace thinking him insane and his entire fortune having been fed into construction of the villa, Alessandro Giovarni, a penniless and broken man, finally commited suicide. Thanks to the misfortunes of the Giovarni family, people living in the area avoided the villa, believing it to be haunted. Of course this suited the current occupants just fine.
The paved road up to the gates was deserted as always. The only sounds to be heard was the distant chirping of crickets and the clack of Addrian's shoes on the cobblestones. The Fox sauntered up to a pair of 9 foot wrought iron gates. He shook his head and chuckled, then proceeded to leap upwards, flipping at least 2 metres above the gates and landed on the other side without missing a beat. At the other end of the cobblestone lane was a gigantic three story structure of cream alabaster stone and terracotta tiles. It was a grand structure that was over 200 years old but had lost none of it's original splendor. The entire manor was surrounded by lush gardens of perfectly cut green grass, beds of exotic flowers, groves of gigantic oak trees. the enormous building itself was moulded into the form of a giant square, at the center of which was a beautifully kept garden and a water fountain carved in the image of two angels standing back to back, holding their cupped hands towards the sky, as if they were releasing a dove to the heavens. The corners of the grand structure were four towers, giving the building a castle-like vibe. This manor was Addrian's home.
This was Castel de Evangelina.
Instead of walking up to the grand mahogany entrance doors, Addrian detoured to the left of the building, to the only open window on the third floor. Addrian leaped upwards and vaulted over the windowsill, into his room. The room was dominated by a four poster bed draped in silk pillows, sheets and transparent gossamer curtains. On the wall across from the bed was a large oak wardrobe. At the far wall was the door and a desk with burning candle as the only light source, the twirling flame casting dancing shadows on the walls. Addrian sauntered over to the wardrobe, opened it up and placed his black jacket on an unused hanger. As he did this, a presence made itself known to Addrian. Knowing who it was, he chuckled.
"Isn't it a little past your bedtime Tristan?"
He remarked as he shut the wardrobe to reveal a wolf with obsidian black fur and a single stripe of white along the back of his head. He was garbed in a silk, grey dressing gown. embroidered into the edges were celtic patterns. His arms were crossed and he was doing his best to keep his rage from showing on his face, but some came through anyway.
"You went out feeding again didn't you?"
The wolf called Tristan said. Addrian put on his most innocent smile.
"Only one. And you should have tasted it. It was like sex on your taste buds. I would have saved you some but I don't like you."
The Fox remarked. Tristan ignored the quip. He was well aware of Addrian's opinion about him; He felt the same way. The wolf moved to lean on the nearby wall.
"Go ahead and keep breaking the mistress's rules. You're not too far from being thrown out on your ear."
Addrian scoffed.
"You and I both know the old hag can't resist an otherworldly being in need."
Tristan clenched his fists at the hag remark.
"Oh don't worry Addrian, I'm sure you'll find a nice house, slaughter the owners and settle in just fine."
Addrian's condescending smile faded as Tristan continued.
"And then maybe you could find a job at the local whorehouse. A cocktease like you will be snatched up in no time."
Addrian shot the Wolf a murderous glare.
"Don't talk down to me like you're any better. I don't suppose the household knows of your little midnight trysts with Oscar Wilde?"
Tristan drew himself to his full height.
"You wouldn't dare..."
"You know the records say that all but one of the boys of the evening were present at the tribunal. They never did find the missing one."
"Shut up."
"There were also stories of how Wilde would brag to his friends about his favorite escort, about how he was a rather gifted poet. And that apparently that wasn't all he could do with his tongue..."
"SHUT UP!"
Tristan snarled and drew back his fist, leveling it with Addrian's jaw. The Fox simply raised his hand and the wolf's fist simply stopped in midair, caught in an invisible vice. Addrian clicked his tongue, wagging his finger in front of Tristan's eyes.
"Now, now Tristan. You remember who won our last fight don't you?"
Tristan growled and made to snap at the Fox's jaw. Addrian just flicked his hand and the wolf's fist flew back and struck him in the nose, causing a bleed. He narowed his eyes at Tristan.
"Now do me a favor and scurry back to the hole you crawled out of."
He spat at him. Tristan licked the blood off of his snout and stormed out the door, his tail ramrod straight behind him.
"One day Fox. One day..."
Tristan muttered angrily to himself as he stomped back to his room, not caring if he woke anyone. That arrogant, cocky, egotistical, high-and-mighty Fox infuriated him to no end. The mistress had taken him in out of the kindness of her own heart and he had absolutely no respect for her, her rules or anyone else who lived in the villa. Every day, he would sit at that same spot: on the roof of the tallest tower at the north east corner of the house. And he would snarl at anyone who came near him. Well, everyone except that young fire witch of course. She was the only resident that he didn't talk down to. His only friend it seemed...
"Bah! He's lucky she even wants to talk to him. For all the misery he's causing us, he deserves to be alone. why does mistress let him stay here?"
He spat under his breath.
"Because I must."
Tristan jumped at the voice and turned to the source of it. Standing there in a silk green and white dress as always, hands clasped together front in a gesture of patience was a beautiful Gardevoir, her green hair styled in a coif over her right eye. Tristan immedietly bowed.
"Mistress! I-I... I'm sorry if I woke you."
"I was already awake when you stormed past my chamber, muttering ill about Addrian."
Tristan cleared his throat nervously, a pink tint staining his black furred cheeks.
"I understand that he frustrates you Tristan, but he is a member of this community just as you are. To belittle him behind his back is most dishonorable."
"Mistress, with all due respect, how can you consider him one of us when he has refused all of your rehabilitation efforts? He's a lost cause, why waste time on him?"
The mistress let a smile cross her lips.
"Because even in the blackest of hearts, there is hope. Remember that Tristan."
The wolf bowed again.
"Yes... Mistress Evangelina."
The gardevoir, better known as Evangelina Giovarni placed a gentle hand on Tristan 's shoulder.
"Good. Now go get some sleep Tristan."
"Yes mistress."
She smiled and returned to her bedchamber. Tristan took one last look at Addrian's bedroom door before returning to his own room, his mind afire with questions.
Hope everyones liking it so far! :)
