Chapter 8
Second Chance?
~~~
Tom stared, frozen, at the door that stood between him and his lover. All the fear and doubt felt previously crept back into his being, making him even more hesitant. He slowly rose from the bed, looking at Tyan unsurely. The otter nodded, and Tom inhaled as he walked to the door.
His paw reached up to grasp the doorknob, and for a moment, his arm failed to respond. The fox just now realized that tears were gathering in his eyes and his whole body began to tremble. He stepped back and shook his head.
"I can't do this, Tyan, I-" The otter stood behind him.
"Now or never," Tyan whispered. The otter lead Tom's paw towards the doorknob, guiding each finger around it. Tyan stepped away and watched as Tom turned the knob. The fox pulled the door wide open and his eyes immediately locked into a pair of ocean blue orbs.
Anthony's eyes immediately looked elsewhere, anywhere but into Tom's eyes. The husky's throat dried up, and he only managed a cough. Tom turned around as he felt Tyan pat his shoulder.
"I'll leave you two alone to talk," he said as he walked out of the room. Anthony stepped into the room and closed the door behind him.
They both stood before each other nervously. Tom looked at Anthony's face for an answer, but the husky would not meet his eyes. The memory of Mike and Anthony flashed in his head, causing Tom to finally relinquish to the pain. His tears rolled freely, his sobs unmistakable. Anthony finally looked at Tom, a similar pain reflected in his eyes. The husky couldn't muster the strength to stand before the fox. He sank to his knees, looking up at Tom.
"Please...Tom...I didn't mean to hurt you..." Tom looked into his eyes, nearly wanting to sink into their azure depths.
"Then why did you..." Tom mumbled in a choked sob. His legs wobbled beneath him before dropping him forward. But unlike all the other fateful times he had fallen, Anthony caught him in a hug.
"I lost myself," Anthony whispered, "I couldn't control what I did. I never wanted to admit it before, but I need you. I really need you Tom," The husky whispered before breaking down into tears. Tom contemplated for a moment, than he returned the hug warmly.
"I thought you didn't love me anymore," Tom sniffled.
"No, Tom," Anthony pleaded, "I love you with all my heart. I always have."
"I thought you had used me."
"I would never use you," Anthony reassured, hugging the fox even tighter, "you are more than that. I've always been scared of doing anything sexual with you. No matter how badly I wanted to do you, I never would. I wanted you to know you mean a lot more."
"..Is that why you went to Mike instead? Were you going to use him and toss him aside when you were finished?"
"No! Nothing like that!" sobbed Anthony, looking at Tom pleadingly.
"And how does he feel about the whole thing? Did you...make him do those things?" Anthony looked at Tom with a pained face.
"You know that's not me! Mike...he did those things willingly."
"Why?" asked Tom, confused. Anthony looked away in shame.
"We talked and I promised him...that he wouldn't be lonely anymore. I told him he could be together with us." Tom was silent for a minute, and Anthony reluctantly let go of him.
"Did you lie to him?" asked Tom, looking directly into the husky's eyes, "or did you sincerely want to help him?"
"I wanted to help him. He was alone, he wanted someone to love...and I like him," stated Anthony.
"..."
"And he likes me. Mike also likes you a lot too," pressed Anthony as he stood up. He wiped tears away from his eyes. "He's had a crush on you for a while, since I introduced you to him." Anthony placed a paw on Tom's shoulder. The fox looked away.
"I don't know. I'm still hurt by what you did...I always thought you would never hurt me like you did. I've lost some trust in you." Anthony looked down once more.
"I'm sorry Tom. I really am." Tom sighed, making his choice.
"...I know you are, and... I think we should spend some time apart...to think about what went wrong." Anthony looked up, startled.
"Are you breaking up with me?" The husky grasped one of Tom's paws. The fox shook his head.
"No. I'm not strong enough to end our relationship because... I still love you too," Tom stated. Anthony smiled and leaned forward to kiss Tom. As much as Tom would have liked to kiss him back, he pushed the husky away. Anthony frowned, saddened.
"What about Mike?" asked the husky, masking the disappointment for not receiving the kiss. Anthony probably deserved it, and he would probably be experiencing more moments like it.
"It's a crazy idea, but I'll consider it..." Anthony quickly swept the fox off his feet in a hug. They touched noses for a brief second.
"Thank you Tom..." The husky whispered, fighting back tears. He knew that Tom was doing all this out of love. Despite what had happened, the fox still loved him. He had been given a second chance. "...I promise I'll never hurt you again."
Tom smiled for the first time since witnessing what he thought was betrayal. Anthony noticed and also smiled, putting him down in the process.
"I know you've been through a lot," Anthony said, "But Mike still wants to talk to you."
"Oh...okay," said Tom. The fox had forgotten about that life changing video and he wasn't exactly sure what to say.
"Now," the husky said as he wiped away any loose tears off Tom's face, "Would like to go home and get some rest?"
Tom nodded. The days events had exhausted him mentally and physically, and a bed to sleep in would do him some good. Anthony opened the door for Tom and both walked downstairs.
There they found Tyan and his parents watching TV, laughing at the hilarious sitcom that was on. Tyan noticed them and smiled at him.
"Hey, you guys leaving already?" Tyan asked as he jumped off the couch.
"Yeah, and I really appreciate what you did for me," Tom said. He gave the otter a tight hug, regardless of his parents present. Tyan's parents stared curiously at the pair, but said nothing. Tom let go of the blushing otter, and thanked his mom for the meal.
Once outside, Anthony stopped Tom with a tap on the shoulder.
"What was the hug for?" Anthony asked him. Tom raised an eyebrow in curiosity.
"Are you jealous that I hugged him?" the fox asked. Anthony blushed slightly and looked away.
"No," he stated," I just thought it was little odd since you've never hugged him before."
"Oh, that was my way of thanking him." Tom continued walking to Anthony's truck. The husky quickly caught up to him.
"Hold on, did you do anything with him?" he asked with persistence in his voice. Tom rolled his eyes at the husky.
"I can't believe you! You think I had sex with him?" he angrily replied. Anthony flinched and backed up.
"I-I'm sorry Tom. I just wanted to know what you did." Tom sighed.
"I talked with him. I told him everything," Anthony's ears and tail drooped," and he defended you the whole time."
"He did?" asked the husky, looking back at Tyan's house.
"Yes, I told him what I saw you doing. He still thought that you were good and he wanted me to give you a chance to explain yourself." Anthony said nothing and looked down. "And if he hadn't convinced me, right now I would probably be your ex-boyfriend." Anthony gave Tom a grateful look.
"Let's get you home"
The car ride was quiet and short. Tyan didn't live that far away from Tom's house, so they had five minutes of silence to deal with.
Tom took the time to get some facts through his head. For one, Anthony still loved him. He was glad enough for that, but it wasn't enough to forget what he had done.
The fox had been hurt, pained, and that wasn't something Tom would let him get away with. He knew why he had forgiven Anthony so easily: He loved him. That fact was simple enough, but Tom wanted to make sure Anthony learned from his mistake. That was the main reason for their time apart. Even if Tom wanted to kiss Anthony, he wouldn't do it unless the husky learned his lesson.
"We're here," stated Anthony. Tom snapped back from his thoughts.
"Thanks for bringing me," said the fox. He reached for the door handle, but suddenly stopped. "Anthony," the husky turned to Tom, puzzled, "...if you ever get your urge again, please, don't hesitate to tell me...I don't want you to do something crazy again."
"...I will."
Anthony threw himself onto his bed, exhausted and relieved simultaneously. Tom was still his boyfriend, but that wasn't all that mattered. He cared about the fox, and he knew that Tom needed some time away from him, to do some thinking.
It hurt knowing that Tom didn't want to be with him at the moment, but he had brought it upon himself. Anthony had let his cock do the talking, and now he was cursing himself for listening to it. Before, he had managed to control these urges. But as time passed, they became stronger.
Anthony also thought about his encounter with the wolf. He couldn't believe how good it felt, the same kind of good he thought only Tom could give him. Guilt immediately washed over him for thinking about it.
He suddenly remembered that Mike was expecting him to call. Hopefully, through the entire ordeal, he hadn't lost the wolf's number. He dug through his pocket, pulling out a crumpled piece of paper. The husky reached for the phone near his nightstand and dialed the number.
"Hello?" greeted a lupine voice after a couple of seconds.
"Hey Mike, it's me, Anthony." There was a pause.
"Anthony...how did it go?" asked Mike, worried and anxious.
"...I was lucky he didn't break up with me." He heard a sigh of relief.
"I'm glad it went well." Anthony gulped.
"Not really. He's still my boyfriend, but he wants some time apart, to take it all in."
"Oh...I'm sorry. I can't help but feel this is my fault."
"It was my fault, I convinced you to have sex with me."
"And I could've stopped you, I could've just said no," replied the wolf, "but I didn't, so its both our faults." Anthony couldn't argue with the firmness in Mike's voice.
"If you say so..." the husky said unenthusiastically. Mike could tell something else was bothering the husky.
"What's wrong?" asked the wolf, concerned.
"I-I don't know. I guess I'm a little sad. It hasn't even been a day, and yet, I miss him, too much to put into words. I think what's really bothering me is that I wanted to kiss him today. And he stopped me." Anthony could hear the wolf breathing on the other end.
"Don't worry. Give him time to heal, and give yourself time to think about what you did. When both of you are ready to start it off again, you'll know."
"You think so?" asked Anthony. He didn't want to pin his hopes on that response yet.
"The way I see it, Tom wants you to feel the same pain he feels. Not to the same degree, but he wants you to understand what you did to him." Anthony closed his eyes and lay back.
"Okay, I feel bad enough. Now you have to tell me too." He said, dejectedly.
"I'm going through the same thing too. I have to understand him if I'm ever going to get a chance...you did tell him, right?" asked Mike, trying to hide the hope in his voice.
"Yes, and he's going to consider it."
"I'm still going to talk to him. I should at least tell him the video wasn't my idea." Anthony reflected back, thinking about all the things he heard about the video.
"I haven't seen it, but I heard some rumors about it," Anthony responded. "Were you really going to kiss him?"
"Yes, I was," replied the wolf after a long pause. "And if that bother's you, just remind yourself you were still the one who kissed him first." Anthony laughed lightly.
"Okay, I'll see how I can get you with him."
"Thanks Anthony, Bye."
"Bye." Anthony set the phone back. He stood up and went to turn off the light. As he did every night before going to sleep, he stripped down to nothing but his boxers. With heavy steps, the husky made his way back.
Anthony hesitated, and sat at the edge of his bed, thinking about Tom. The husky turned to grab his pillow before breathing it in deeply. He caught strong traces of the fox's scent on it. He could smell Tom all over his bed and sheets from his previous stay. Anthony whined softly.
This was going to be a long night.
