"What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets."

-Dracula, Castlevania Symphony of the Night

“So, what else do you know about me?" he begins.

“Ermm...you're definitely a guy and probably an aquatic anthro." I said as I took a turn and drove through the highway.

“Wha-How did you-"

“The former is based on your shoulder width ratio while the later is based on your rate of breathing."

“Wow. You're very observant."

“Thanks. By the way, Jackson refers you as a 'merc'. What does that mean?"

“Mercenaries...Basically people who hunt wanted people. By the way my name is Jericho, people just called me Jay. I live and work alone. So, tell me about yourself."

“Full name: Ruwen Lynch. (The letter 'U' sounded like 'O' so people called me Owen. Although some people preferred calling me Ru.) I just opened the clinic for two years and the... financial support is much appreciated."

“Nah. I just gave you a fair slice. You capped Diaz, you got the money. Its merc's simple law."

“I got one more question."

“Yeah, go on. I'm open-minded."

“Why do you wear a Sentry unit as a suit? No offence. But, why you become a robot instead of a normal person."

He chuckled when he heard the word 'normal'. “I became a robot because it's the best disguise ever. It's normal. Imagine a merc going into a mall with a rifle. I bet its gonna get empty in about 20 seconds. I don't know why people are so over-reacting these days. Do you know that our media these days is so full of shit that they scare people by 'terrorist'? Try to list how many movies feature bearded or masked men with gun," he sighed and shook his head.

“I labelled it: Massive stereotypical bulls#it because of too many judgemental people. It's a very big loophole in our society. I mean who are people to judge others. Sometimes I pitied the people who are being discriminated and labelled as terrorist. I've personally met some of them during my career and surprisingly they're good people.*sighs*"

Jay gave me a nod before letting out a low whistle as I decelerate my car and entered a driveway to my garage. “I do wonder about doctors' salary these days but, you own a mansion? I thought that you just opened the clinic for 2 years."

I sighed, “Long story but to make it short that's my dad's house and I haven't finished paying him yet. It's a 'stand on your feet' kind of thing. Don't worry, my dad lives in another county and currently, I stayed here with an AI. It's really boring though so you are very welcomed here." I turned off the ignition key, stepped outside and shut the garage door. “Follow me upstairs. I have equipment there."

We proceeded upstairs until we reached the living room. “Careful." I warned him as I noticed that he's only about one foot away from the ceiling. He must be about 3 meters tall. I halted at a large metal iris near the living room, at the side of the kitchen and set my hand on a palm scanner.

“Nice house you got here doc."

“All compliments should go to my dad. Come on, hurry up!" I tugged him as the iris door opened and we stepped into the elevator. I pressed a button labelled '1'. “Medical R&D level, my living space," I explained. Then, I almost jumped as a few security cameras in the room made a physical scan of him and linked up a (damn impressive) hologram on my phone. “Wait, you're a Great White! Why didn't you tell me?"

“Why? You haven't seen one before?"

“Great Whites are rare around here." I shook my head. “I never thought them to be so huge. I mean, at first I thought that you're piloting a mech but..," I enlarged the hologram display until it reached its exact real size. “It's a suit plus with three heavy weapons! Do you know that human does usually need a full set of powered armour to carry those?"

“Ha-ha. Is that a compliment?"

“Honestly, its fact." I replied briefly. “Lydia, what's the status?"

“Yes, doctor," replied the disembodied voice of my house AI. “I've prepared Jericho Williams medical files and sent a unit to fetch stocks of blood and other medical supplies from cold storage, as well as tools to assist in the removal of the modified Sentry unit armour."

A door to a tiny service elevator at the far end of the room parted, and a robotic rover rolled out, its telescopic arms holding piles of red and blue liquid filled bags. Rows of tools were neatly lined up across the rover top array.

“Excellent. Continue night-times protocols and please prepare some dinner. We're starving."

“Yes, Doctor," the AI replied.

I strolled to a table, interfaced with Jericho's bio-monitors and a bank of holographic display hummed to life. MRI images of Jay's internal structures appeared and slowly rotated. I winced at the extent of his injuries and concentrated on his internal scans. His injuries were the worst that I've ever seen on a single person. I had seen that from the extremely low blood pressure and high body temperature even before I'd glanced at the MRI.

There was moderate bleeding in his liver –a fatal condition if not treated immediately- and his left lung is barely operational. An armour piercing round had managed to go through his armour and punctured his chest leaving a painful condition known as a 'sucking wound' as he breathe through his collapsed lung and a bleeding hole in his chest. Ouch! That the guy was still on his feet, let alone fighting was tantamount to an act of God.

“Jay, are you sure you're alright? Don't you feel any pain?" I said with my professional tone as I tried to hide the real extent of his injuries.

“Nope. Not yet."

“Not yet?" I asked.

“Sharks have a special ability to go on a -How should I say this?-...Rage Mode. It's a highly evolved version of the basic 'fight or flee' instinct. Just as same as your adrenaline rush although it tends to last longer and have a few side effects. So, I guess I would feel nothing now although I'm afraid that it will wear off soon." Jay explained.

“OK. On the table please. I'm going to perform some minor repairs. Don't worry, Lydia had scanned you and confirmed that everything is okay."

Jay complied as I picked up a curved, long-handled magnetic torque wrench, built specifically to fit a Sentry's access panel. I inserted it, let it spin and pop open a section of his battered armour. Blood and hydrostatic gel oozed from his wound.

I turned to face him. “You've got some injury from the energy weapons. I'll get some biofoam into that wound. Avoid strenuous motions."

Lydia retrieved a can of biofoam and inserted the tip into a tiny injection port in the armour using the rover telescopic hands. It filled his armour with the space-filling coagulant/anti-bacterial tissue regenerative gel that helped to heal Jay's deep exterior wound.

“Okay," I said as I carefully fasten an oxygen supply hose to his helmet, not making much over his courage. The last thing I wanted was to make him feel different. He has got enough special treatment from everyone else. “After this, I am going to let you regenerate in stasis. Don't worry, it is not gonna be long."

“I understand," Jay rasped.

I wonder if he really did –If the shark understood that getting your internal organs traumatized wasn't supposed to happen to you even if you're chasing HVTs for a whole day (some of his wound shows signs that they have been there for more than 5 hours).

I picked up a syringe from the rover, injected local anaesthetic and inserted a flexible laser tipped catheter into Jay, carefully monitoring my progress on the MRI. I pulsed the laser, fusing the lacerations in his liver, before inflating his lung and replacing a few damaged tissues with newly cloned stem cells. Lastly, I sealed J's internal injuries with biofoam, removed the catheter, and cauterized the incision. “Rest," I said.

“No, doc. I think I'm quite-," Jay shifted his leg and tried to sit up.

“Down," I said sternly as I set a hand on his shoulder. I had no illusion that I could've stopped him with the gesture, but it fortified my words and my will. “Doctor's orders."

He sighed and laid back.

“I'll be near my desk just over there-" I pointed to a set of lab equipment and monitors next to a window, “if you need anything." I switched on my TV and let the holographic screen float to a place where Jay could see it. “Just keep on breathing and watch the TV if you like –It uses voice command. It will take an hour to fully heal." I said as I turned on a blue stasis field that will slow down the shark's bleeding.

I proceeded to my desk, took a deep breath and stared at the heavy downpour through the window. I loved to see the rain with its cool night breeze. I started to yawn as my eyelids felt really heavy and settled on my cosy armchair. I closed my eyes as I felt a breeze blew past me and accidentally......falls asleep.
