Life, 9 The Rocky Road to Happieness
#9 of A Little Thing Called Life
So after several months of waiting, I have finally completed chapter nine! This chapter is basically about the family getting used to being around each other and learning to overcome their couples squabbles. If you find any errors, please let me know so that I can fix them.
Marco was sitting in his bedroom studying for an upcoming chemistry test when he heard the tires hit the driveway. One glance out the window told him that Draco and Diesel had made it home safely.
Marco had spent the weekend spring-cleaning the house, just a small surprise for the happy couple, and also a thanks for everything they had done for him.
Marco felt a wave wash over him, a feeling of undeniable happiness, something incredible happened to them over the weekend, which made Marco that much more anxious to talk to the couple.
Draco and Diesel walked in, hand in hand, seeing only each other as they placed their bags in the bedroom.
Marco came out of his room as they sat down together on the couch. "Welcome home you two, anything interesting happen to y'all?"
The two of them looked at each other with a grin as Diesel moved Draco's hand to show the equine an intricate wedding band of wound gold and silver.
Marco smiled wide seeing the ring, knowing exactly what it meant for the family. "Congratulations you guys! That's great news!"
That night was one of celebration, Draco invited Jason, and the four of them went to Chilli's Mexican Restaurant, where Jason manfully offered a toast to the newly engaged couple.
The next few weeks went by smoothly as they went on about their lives, but as these things go, it doesn't last forever.
Late one night Draco and Diesel were laying next to each other in bed laughing and talking to each other, when Draco noticed that their eating habits had taken a toll on Diesel's figure, so he decided to poke the husky's stomach for a giggle. That was the start.
"Heh..." Diesel chuckled once "What was that for?"
Draco giggled "I just noticed that you've developed a slight pudge is all."
The look on Diesel's face made the dragon cringe, and disaster ensued, it was surprising that Marco didn't knock on the door to make sure everything was ok, heck, the neighbors must have heard the fight.
By the end of the night, Draco wound up storming from the room in tears to sleep in the spare bedroom.
The next morning was a bright sunny Saturday, and when Draco woke up he found a vase of bright yellow roses sitting on the dresser of the spare room with a handwritten note that read
"Sorry for getting so upset with you, can you forgive me? love Diesel"
Draco walked into the living room to the smell of sausage, eggs, and coffee coming from the kitchen, and upon entering the kitchen he found his place at the table already set with a single rose laying next to the empty plate.
He was caught off guard when a pair of arms wrapped around him from behind. "I'm sorry..." Diesel started "I shouldn't have gotten so upset about something so simple and stupid..."
Draco smiled as a single tear of happiness welled up in his eye. "I should be the one apologizing to you, you've always been self conscious, I shouldn't have poked fun at you"
The day continued on smoothly from there, as did the next few days as the makeshift family settled into their day to day lives.
It wasn't until wednesday that another argument broke out over Diesel not throwing away his trash, which was resolved before they went to bed that night. That friday they fought about the cluttered state of Draco's car, which put a strain on the couples date night, and they both went to bed quietly.
That weekend went by smoother than whipped cream however, Diesel cleaned up the inside of the house, while Draco deep cleaned the inside of his car, then all three of them went out to have family time at the mall.
As time progressed, the couple had their fights, some of them lasting an entire day, while others only last maybe thirty minutes, but they try not to go to sleep mad at each other, before they go to bed they take time to calm down, then talk it through.
Fighting wasn't the only hard part of living together; however, but they were still getting used to spending so much time together, and there were the small things that had to be dealt with.
Draco was a blanket hog at night, so Diesel learned to either stay close to his mate, or have an extra blanket handy.
Diesel often forgot to rinse his plate when he was done, so Draco had to be prepared to do some scrubbing before he fully loaded the dishwasher.
Marco never turned his cloths right side out, so Draco had to give himself an extra 30 minutes to do the laundry.
None of them bothered to get upset about these small things, but rather learned to deal with them.
Their sex life had also suffered a bit, as they both had a lot going on in their lives. Between Draco having to grade papers, write up lesson plans, run rehearsals or tryouts, and manage a seating chart for a 77 passenger school bus, and Diesel having to run a gym, not to mention all the housework that had to be done during the week, they were both about ready to drift to sleep when their heads hit their pillows.
Neither of them were extremely worried about this, as their love for each other was strong enough to keep them bonded even without sex. Of course when they did finally manage to have sex, it was like a wildfire fueled by gasoline.
Though he wasn't quite as good at acting as Drake but he must have been just good enough because Jason had been able to keep his emotions from showing to Draco as well as his students.
He couldn't deny his feelings for the dragon. He was completely in love, so when Diesel and Draco invited him to chili's for their engagement announcement, he fell apart inside.
As soon as he got in his car and out of the couples sight, his tears started to fall, and they didn't stop until he cried himself to sleep.
His days went by in a blur as he slowly learned to cope with the pain.
He still enjoyed the time he spent with Draco, and as time passed by he finally came to accept that Draco was going to marry someone else, and his days slowly got better.
He was pleasantly surprised when Diesel had asked him to be best man, and happily accepted.
Of course he knew he would always have feelings for Draco, but he finally learned to deal with it and be grateful for the time that he did get to spend with his best friend.
Things were starting to look up for everyone, but unfortunately, nothing can last forever.
