BOOK TWO
PART FIFTY FOUR.
J ust off the path running through Route Eleven that led from Evolution town to More Bridge Town a figure was crouched up against the roots of an old gnarled tree; dirt as well as blood was caked through its matted blue, black and creamy coat of hair. The Pokémon's red eyes where distant as though all will to live had been drained from them, it had been a cold frosty night and now it could barely feel the pain in its battered body any more as it waited to die but so far it had been denied even this small mercy. The jagged remains of what might have been a metallic silver chest spike sparked ever so faintly in a pitiful way as did smaller remains of spikes upon its left and right front paw. A chain tied around the tree dug firmly into it's the neck of the canine like creature barely allowing it to breathe properly as it mental pleaded to Arcues to be allowed to just close its eyes and drift off into the dark embrace of death but its plea's where either ignored or refused as if its god was enjoying the wretched creatures suffering. The only hope it now had was for some predator to come along and tear it apart, even a slow agonizing death as some other Pokémon's meal would have been preferable to the fate it was currently enduring. The morning dragged on as the cold began to change to warmth as the day began but the Pokémon still felt frozen its hopes and dreams all crushed as it lay their abandoned, a sudden smell reached its nose as a familiar aura drew close probably form the path leading through the heavily foliage filled forest. It sparked memories of a happier time or someone who had made it feel special, wanted even loved. It felt a sudden spark of hope again something the Pokémon had given up on completely as it had resigned itself to dying. It tried to call out but it was too weak to hungry after the days and nights of starvation to make even the simplest of sounds its tear ducts tried to form tears as panic began to take hold but the Pokémon's ducts had grown to dry to even do this now. It began to curse itself mentally for allowing itself for daring to feel hope after having resigned itself to its fate, fear of death now rippled through it as it tried to force its desire to survive to that familiar scent and aura to come save it.
'Please I don't want to die please come back!...please save me...please don't leave me please come back!.....Please!'
But minuets passed as no one appeared, closing its eyes it began to finally drift into the darkness it had been praying for only moments ago but now feared greatly, everything felt so feint now. A pressure upon its arms was barely registered as it wondered if some predator had finally found it and would now put it out of its misery.
“Lucy?...Lucy, open your eyes, please open your eyes!"
A voice called, a voice so familiar so desperate for her to live, she tried to tell it to just let her die to leave her alone but it refused to do this as little by little her eyes began to open as if rebelling against her mind. All around her she could see a Weavile, Lopunny and a Blaziken while just a little way off a Espeon was looking at her with its forehead jewel glowing brightly forcing her from closing her eyes again.
She began to feel some feeling starting to return to her sore stiff body as large warm hands rubbed her arms then sides and even her legs to her legs to help promote her body's circulation. Around her shoulders was a heavy warm blanket. It took her some time to realise the familiar presence she had sensed was now next to her, Arceus had ignored her pleas to pass on for a reason.
“It's okay Lucy its okay, I 'm here“
James whispered into her ear with a gentle tone, the five of them had left the Pokémon centre shortly after breakfast and headed into the forest only for him to feel something familiar pull at something deep within him. At first the girls had tried to keep him from leaving the wide dirt path but the whole group ended up heading into the forest, the Weavile had been the first to detect the feint scent of a sick Lucario and had figured their trainer was heading to catch a new member for the team. Or at least a decent fight instead they had found the battered remains of a female Oni recognised the scent off as having seduced her Human some time back.
“Suck on this it'll help"
He spoke as Blaze handed him one of the vests from his bag that had been soaked in water from a flask, bringing it to Lucy's muzzle the Lucario felt her jaws part as the Psychic Pokémon made her body comply. Suckling upon the article of clothing she drank or rather sucked down some water for the first time in days, her body almost tried to reject it as she gagged a little. Had she been allowed to drink from the container she would most certainly have gone into shock, Lucy herd the sound of a spray then a little strength start to flow through her body. Bunny had knelt down next to her applying the hypo spray nozzle of a tubular container, along the length words 'Pokémon League Licensed Potion' was clearly stamped on the label.
Lucy wanted to ease her arms around the Human and hold him close or even lick his face in gratitude but she just didn't have the energy to do so, meanwhile Blaze was mashing up some Pokémon food pellets into a bowl with some water to form a paste while James eased the moist vest from the fighting/steel types lips. The substance being pulverised in the small bowl didn't look that appealing let alone appetising but as the Blaziken spoon fed Lucy the Lucario swallowed it down greedily like it was the most delicious thing in the Pokémon world.
The main problem now was getting Lucy to the Pokémon centre, since even as emaciated as she was he wasn't sure he would have the strength to carry her back to Evolution Town, she belonged to another trainer which meant using a Pokéball would not work the only thing he could think was to have Blaze carry her.
Still James wanted to know what had happened to the Lucario but he would wait until she had been treated before even contemplating that, whatever had happened could not have been good that much was obvious.
“Once you've eaten we'll get you to nurse joy she'll be able to heal you"
He smiled tenderly kissing the top of her head, he resisted the urge to pull away and make a face as she tasted nasty but then he doubted he would taste good after what every she'd been through. He could see the look of gratitude in her eyes even if she didn't have the strength to speak, gently he took her paw in his hand and gentle squeezed it reassuringly a simple gesture but one that was greatly appreciated by Lucy as their clasped hands began to glow with a bright blue hue.
Watching with a twinge of disgust towards Human Kind save for those few Humans who had proven to her they were the exception to the rule, she didn't need to read the Lucario's memories to know this involved Humans as such cruel brutality all ways did. Be it toward their own kind or Pokémon, The nature of Human's as far as she was concerned where hard wired to use, abuse who and whatever they wanted especially if their target looked or appeared to be weak or considerably different from them as if it was their Arceus given right to do so.
She guessed that's why she like James he was one of those who had so far proven he wasn't like those other Human's, he gave and never really asked for anything in return or expected anything. But those who did such unforgivable betrayal to those who dedicate their lives to making their Trainers happy deserved no mercy.
'Human!.....if ever it should come to pass that I find those who did this I vow to Arceus right here and now that I will crush their minds'
Toph vowed telepathically to James making the poor youth gulp and feel sorry for Lucy's trainer or at least he all most did, being a pure psychic type the small Espeon was defiantly not Pokémon to be trifled with lightly. Meanwhile Toph frowned in concern a sight that looked out of place on her normally self-absorbed expression, the Lucario did indeed need one of the Nurse Joy's attention her Human had be correct on that but she was so far gone that simple first aid was not going to cut it if they wanted this female to survive.
“We should hurry back to Evolution Town, Bridge town is still too far away to find aid for her"
Toph's spoken words where more of a command than suggestion, Oni who was on sentry gave an agreeing nod not really bothered one way or the other what they did. It was only because her James wanted to help the Lucario that she didn't obey her instincts as a predator which howled at her to slaughter the weak and feast on her flesh.
“Okay let's get going"
James mused taking the now empty bowl and spoon from Blaze, packing it away with a mental note to wash it out latter, without even as much as a grunt the Blaziken carefully scooped Lucy up in her arms as Oni took point to clear the way of any wild Pokémon. Bunny hopped alongside James ready to provide security form anything trying to flank them. Even Toph stayed out of her Pokéball to monitor the Luacrio's condition as they travelled.
