Getting Leon's Things
#5 of Broken Soul
It was morning when Leon woke up next to Effie. His head was trying to get him to go back to sleep, but he wasn't paying attention. Effie rolled over and kissed Leon gently, "Good morning, how did you sleep?" She was wide awake. The exact opposite of how Leon was feeling.
"Ugh... you got any caffeine around here?" Leon was exhausted as he always in the morning, "I just can't wake up in the morning without some kind of stimulant."
Effie looked at him strangely, "Uh, what's caffeine? I mean, I know what it is, but what does it do?"
Leon sat up, "Well, it's the only reason I've been able to stay awake for the past ten years or so. From that, I can assume you don't have any. So, what do you have that's loaded with sugar?" Leon forced himself out of the bed and put on his pants. This was an odd morning for him, but he didn't care. If he didn't get something to keep him awake soon, he wasn't going to be able to walk for much longer.
Effie sprung out of the bed, wearing her teddy and grabbed Leon's arm, "Are you gonna be alright?" he nodded, "Alright, I should have something left in here. Let's check it out." she helped Leon over to her kitchen and started to frantically search for food. Momo had cleaned her out, but that wasn't a bad thing. Effie couldn't begin to imagine the smell of two year old food just sitting around. Luckily, Momo did do some shopping. Of course, all she liked were cakes, cookies, brownies, oregano in a baggy, and anything that could be cooked up in a few seconds, "Figures. I still have no idea how she stays so thin after eating all of this. Uh..." she picked up a box full of brownies, "will these do?"
Leon looked over her shoulder at the bag full of oregano, grabbed it, opened it up, and smelled it, "Yeah... let's avoid anything that she made herself. How about we go out to eat? I could go for some greasy fast food. How about you?" Effie didn't understand what he meant, but he usually knew what he was talking about. "Come on, my treat. We can save those brownies for later, like when we watch something on TV with a lot of bright colors."
They quickly got dressed, Effie wore new clothes while Leon wore his fatigues and army issued black shirt. They walked out into the bright sunlight, but it didn't even affect Leon, who had spent most of his time wandering the desert. Effie, who had been staring at computers for the past two years, could barely see. Leon put her hand over her eyes to shade them some, "Thanks, all this metal and glass is just reflecting the sun right into my eyes."
"Yeah, we should get some of my things later. I think I have some sunglasses that you could wear." They walked along the busy streets. Every time a car hit a bump, they both flinched since it sounded like a distant gun shot. Eventually, they found a place that wasn't too crowded and got some food. "Hm, it's gonna be a pain getting my stuff, but I guess I have to. Don't worry, it'll only be at your place for a while. I'll start looking for a place tomorrow, I don't want to interfere with your life for too long."
Effie laughed loudly, "What life? Didn't you see my apartment? The only place that has any type of decoration is my bedroom, and that was Momo's doing. I have a couch, TV, and a tiny kitchen. And besides, I don't mind if you live with me," she put her paw on leon's hand, "it's nice having someone like you around. I really like your... company." Leon smiled at her. They each ate a little more, then, "Hey, I have an idea that may help you get your things. It'll make a lot of trips into one."
Leon was interested, "Go on."
"Well," Effie got a little nervous, "I'd have to give Momo a call, but she would definitely help us. You see, when I said the kink runs in the family, I meant it really does. My sister took over the business from my mom. Still, all of the... uh... employees are like family so they are willing to help us out any time we need them. It's kinda funny," Effie giggled, "We treat them like our brothers and sisters, and I even remember some of them even babysat for me a few times when I was a kid."
Leon was at a loss for words, "Uh... 'kay. Let's give them a call then. I think." They finished their meal and walked back to their apartment, working off them meal that their bodies hadn't adjusted to yet. When they made it back, Effie called up her sister. Unfortunately, Effie hit the speaker button by mistake.
"EFFIE!!! It's so nice to hear from you again! Is Leon still there? Have you made up your minds yet? Did ya? Huh?"
Effie flinched at her loud voice, "Uh, no, but I need to ask a favor. Could you send some guys over to help us get some of Leon's stuff? He really shouldn't be making more than one trip anyway."
"SURE THING!!! HEY LEON!!! How are you doing? Still a horse in the pants, huh? Where you need us to be? Anywhere you say, we'll meet you there!"
Leon walked closely to the speakers, "OD on sugar already?"
"OF COURSE!!! What else is there to do?"
"I found your stash."
Momo went silent. She didn't say anything for what felt like an eternity. Suddenly, "Well... it's... uh... a house warming present for you! And Effie! She needs to chill out sometimes, so I'd thought it would help. Where you need us to be?" Leon told her an address, "Gotcha! We'll be there in a few minutes! Buh-bye~"
"She's a handful in the morning," Effie said sighing, "but it does help her get things done. Come on. When she says a few minutes, she means that she's already there." They ran out of the apartment and made their way to Leon's old place where his cheating girlfriend was. "See, I told you. There they are." There was a horse, and bull, and a lizard all standing around with boxes, leaning against Momo's car which was in front of a moving truck. Leon saw a flash of light, then noticed that Momo had tackled Effie to the ground with a hug.
"EFFIE!!! You made it! I'm so happy!" Effie kicked her off and brushed herself off. "Come on, meet some of the gang." She put her lips close to Effie's ear and covered her mouth with her hand, "Pssst, the lizard is new, and hung like Pauly was." The two walked over with Momo and everyone introduced themselves.
"Hey!" the bull said, "I heard about you on the news! You won the Medal of Honor yesterday, right? It's an honor to meet you. I'm Jim, the horse is Sparky, and the lizard is Silk. We've all heard so much about you, and Momo even showed us the tape you two made. Very nice, by the way. My younger brother was sent over a few months ago, and he said that you were his inspiration. He kept telling me stories about you, how you would always take on the craziest missions and complete them almost perfectly. Are they true?" The three men looked at him eagerly.
"Well," Leon said, "from the ones that I have heard, I can't fly, and I'm not a superhero, but for the most part, they were true. Just ask Effie here, she was my recon connection for the most part. She can give you the details." They were all amazed, "This isn't the time for that, though, I just want to get my things and get out of here." They all agreed and made their way up to Leon's apartment. After Leon unlocked the door, he checked inside and saw that no one was home. "Alright, out here the Playstation, the controllers, the games, and that chair are the big things. I'll look through some of the smaller things after I get my clothes sorted out." The men went to work and carefully put his things neatly into the boxes. Leon went into what used to be his room and started digging through his closet. He pulled out all of his clothes, which isn't saying much. He had a couple hoodies, and few t-shirts, some jeans and some shorts. he pulled out a pair of sunglasses, two hats, and a beanie. He went to a small box on a dresser and pulled out some things, but Effie couldn't see what they were. With Effie's help, he put his things into a box and went out to join the others.
They worked fast, and were already waiting for something else to do. Leon silently went to a bookshelf and pulled out movies and books. "Hey, I need some help with this computer. Pretty much this entire desk and everything on it is mine. Well," he pulled off some pink things, "Now it's all mine. Don't forget the power strip. Effie and Momo, can you help me out in the kitchen?"
Effie walked over to the kitchen as Leon pulled a case of some type of drink out of the fridge, and a box from a cabinet, "Careful with these, they're made of glass and kinda heavy." he then pulled some more things out of the fridge and put them into a box, "Alright, that should be it."
"Hey," Sparky walked up to him with an mp3 player in hand, "this yours too?" Leon nodded, "Cool, can you help me get songs on mine, I can't figure out how to work it."
"Sure, but I don't think now's the time. Let's just get out of here and then I'll help you out. I'm just going to do one last sweep of this place." Effie stuck with Leon as he looked around. Without his things, this place looked a lot like Effie's. Since she liked the same things Leon did, living with him would be a perfect match. Effie smiled and shivered with excitement, but that quickly went away just as Silk was taking out the last box.
"Ahhhh! What's going on!" Mary had just walked in the door to find her apartment almost empty. She frantically looked side to side before noticing Leon, "What's happening, Leon? Where's all the stuff?"
"Oh, I just decided to give you some extra room by removing my things. Enjoy!" he smiled as he walked out past her with Effie in tow. Mary kept trying to talk to him, but he just kept smiled and tuned it out. This was one of his strategies that Effie learned. If you keep everything short and sweet, and don't explain yourself, no one will ask questions, but they will do what you say. Strangely, it worked a lot.
Leon waved to Momo and the guys to move and they did. Effie walked by his side down the street, but then a thought hit her, "Don't you have to go to the landlord or something?"
"Oh, but I did. I did it while you were sleeping. He gave me permission to take my things and is gonna stop charging me rent. It's all taken care of." Leon hadn't smiled like this since he got back from a scouting mission in the desert. They walked back to her apartment, holding hands and smiling like they were stoned. When they arrived, the men had already put Leon's things inside the apartment. Momo was very good at decorating, so Effie wasn't worried how her place would look.
When they got in, the four were waiting and gave a cheer, while Momo held up a box, "Champagne for everyone!!!"
"Uh, that's not champagne."
Momo looked at the box, "Oh... Boxed Wine for everyone!!!" She poured everyone a glass of wine as they all sat around and talked, mostly asking about Leon. When Jim started reminiscing with Effie, because he was a babysitter once, Leon offered to help Sparky with his mp3 player.
Momo leaned over to Effie, "Hey, can I put hidden cameras in your room again? You know, for private use."
"Uh, no." Effie was still angry from the first time she found the cameras, about twelve hours ago. Sparky was by the computer wondering why Leon made it seem so easy when the manual made it hard to understand. Effie smiled as they continued this little party for a few hours before everyone left. "So, how do you like your new home?"
"Well, I think you need to learn what caffeine is first, but seeing how your sister reacted to sugar, it might be best just to tell you."
Effie raised an eyebrow, "Is that so? I'd prefer to drink some and learn for myself. Now, give me your best shot!"
Leon looked nervous, but he pulled out a glass bottle from a case and handed it to Effie, "You drink this, I'll check for hidden cameras." Effie quickly chugged the bottle, but didn't feel anything. Leon was looking around everywhere, but couldn't find anything.
"Hmm, I don't see what the big deal is. I don't really feel anything. I mean it's not like I'm weak. I can drink caffeine. I don't feel anything! What was that? Nothing? Okay, I'm fine, see, fine, this twitching is nothing, I do this all the time, nothing is wrong, I'm fine, WHY did Leon think I couldn't handle this, because I'm recon? Ha, I could take him any day of the week. Damn I'm horny. Where's Leon at?!"
Leon walked back over to the couch, "Okay, I couldn't find anything. So you starting to... feel... you drank the whole bottle already? Uh... you're body doesn't have a tolerance to caffeine yet, does it?" Effie's eyes were wide and her mouth was wide open. She was staring hungrily at Leon, "Um, Effie?"
"Shut up and take your pants off!" She pounced at Leon, knocking him to the floor and pulling his pants off in the process.
"How the hell do you keep doing that?!" Leon really wanted to know, since he had a belt on and didn't feel a thing, but there was no time to ask. She was hopped up and was going to get what she wanted, with or without his consent.
