PART FIFTY SIX.

T ime went by slowly as seconds dragged on for minutes while the minutes seemed to go on for hours in a waiting room whose décor was spartan to say the least, Jack felt a sense of over whelming anxiety welling up from deep inside as his gut tied itself in knots at the scenarios being played in his mind of what was happening on the operating table in the treatment room. He had paced back'n'forth nervously pausing every now and then to look up at the clock that was until Blaze dragged him back over to the pew with a somewhat irritated voice as she sat him down having been driven half-crazy with his constant pacing.

_ 'Listen to my voice, everything is going to be okay, there is nothing to be worried about' _

Toph whispered into his mind exerting her will over his, forcing his mind to clam itself as she hypnotically ceased control and implanting a subliminal command for him to sleep; second latter his eyes began to droop as he allowed bunny to guide his head down onto her lap as the Espeon hopped off to make room for the side of Jack's face then he was out like a light with Bunny's paw gently stroking his cheek as he slept.

It wasn't until late afternoon before Nurse Joy entered the waiting room, she looked fatigued but still had that wonderful caring smile upon her lips that would bring reassuring warmth to anyone who should look upon it. Her eyes fell on the young Trainer causing a sympathetic smile to form on her face as she made her way over to him as the Lopunny nursing his head looks up at her inquisitively.

“Lopunny...Lop...Unny?"

[Will she be okay?]

Joy didn't understand Pokémon but she was more than able to give a educated guess at what was being asked by the Rabbit like Pokemon.

“The Lucairo will be fine, could you wake your Trainer up please I need to speak with him?"

Joy whispered softly, it wasn't an unreasonable request though the way Blaze went about it was, the Blaziken didn't even wait for Toph to awaken him rather she reached back and slapped Jack hard across side of his face shocking his body awake with a start.

“Blaziken...Blaziken...Ken...Blazi!"

[There you go, He's awake now!]

The Fire/Fighting Type announced causally as if it was no big deal only to be pounced upon by a very un-amused Weavile causing the two to start biting, clawing as well as kicking at each other in a ball of fur'n'feathers. Nurse Joy shook her head slowly wondering why Jack didn't just use their Pokéballs to separate them both like most Trainers generally would with troublesome Pokémon.

“Both of you knock it off right this instant"

She snapped loudly taking every one in the room by surprise by her annoyed tone of voice, she blushed slightly at having allowed her tiredness get the better of her, but it had stopped the quarrel before it had become to serous.

“UGHNNNN!"

Was all Jack could whimper rubbing the large Blaziken shaped hand print across his face something that would remain there for quite some time, putting on a fresh smile in an attempt to hide her exhaustion she took a seat next to the youth before speaking to him.

“The Lucario is going to pull through, though she is quite emaciated as well as dehydrated, suffering from some server damage to the backs of her paws and chest, you probably saw the shattered remains of her three spikes."

The Pokémon Nurse waited for this to sink in before continuing.

“Right now she is resting comfortably though she is on a drip but unfortunately her spikes where beyond saving, I was forced to remove the damaged areas and smooth down what remained."

Jack looked at her part of him relieved she was would eventually be okay the other part concerned as the three horns on a Lucario where what allowed the Pokémon to mould and efficiently wield its aura. Joy ran a hand softly along jack's cheek before kissing his brow softly she didn't know why she did that since it went against most of the Pokémon Nurses code of conduct to interact in such an intimate manner with trainer whose Pokémon where her their patients.

“I know you didn't have a Luicario when you left this morning and doubt you caught one in such a short period of time so I can safely assume you found her abandoned am I right?"

Joy asked in a near whispered voice slipping a hand in to his and gently squeezing it.

“Yes ma'am, I felt her aura calling out to me so I left the path and found her all…"

Jack started finding himself all choked up unable to continue his sentence, but he didn't need to as Joy had guessed it had been something like that. With another reassuring squeeze of her hand she got up gesturing for him to follow her, her soft reassuring voice caressing his ears as she spoke.

“Well you did the right thing bringing her here, she's being moved to the recovery ward if you would like to see her but she will be quite weak so try not to get her too excited."

Taking a few deep breaths Jack felt Bunny's paw slip into his hand offering him her emotional support something he gladly accepted as they followed Joy the others padding along behind them, in too them a few minutes to reach the recovery wing with the Pokémon Nurse guiding him through the twists'n'turns of corridors that led from one area of the Pokémon centre to the next. The actual recovery ward itself a white sterile environment with sizeable hospital beds along the left and right walls pointing inwards towards the octagonal room, she could see the empty beds quite clearly though the occupied ones had been curtained off via a curtain rail that hung down from the ceiling in a 'U' shaped formation so that each bed could be individual given privacy.

Jack was led down to the forth bed down along the left hand side of the ward where a curtain was being drawn around by one of the Audino's, with a smile Joy pulled open a parting to allow him in. The moment he was in side he felt his stomach lurch as a hollow vice grasp at his insides, what had once been metal spike upon her chest as well as on the backs of the Lucario's paws where now little more than mere metallic domes. Her left eye was still swollen shut while her upper body was mostly wrapped in bandages, Lucy didn't look quite as bad as she had in the forest but he could still see her ribs just like those children you would see on those charity posters asking people to make donations.

It broke his heart to see her like this but he put on a brave face as he sat down in the chair next to her while holding her paw, she was only partly awake after having been put under general anaesthesia. She smiled faintly her aura appearing and spreading out like some night light around the two of them at first it flickered like a candle flame before stabilizing as it came into contact with Jack.

“Oh my, it would seem your auras are quite compatible"

Joy pointed out as she stated the obvious, she smiled tiredly before giving a small wave which was promptly returned as she took her leave, Joy would have questions and paper work for him to fill out but right now her mind was in no state to focus on that.

“Since you'll be staying overnight better have one the Audino's register your Pokédex App at the front desk, we can go over the paper work of what happened tomorrow“

With this said she yawned widely blushing lightly and was gone, the Audino that had brought Lucy to the recovery ward made her way over to the Trainer giving him one of those adorable Audino smiles that could calmed even a bad tempered Prime Ape.

“You Stay Here, I Got This!"

Blaze announced unshouldering his backpack before slipping a hand into his inner jacket pocket and fishing out his smart phone, it was more of a command than a suggestion. Jack was grateful for this as he had no intentions to argue.

“I should go to she'll get lost trying to find her way there"

Oni mused with an indignant sneer that made Bunny Face palm herself saying with a deep sigh.

“I'll go too, if I don't those two will just end up fighting again“

Toph just jumped onto the end of the bed clawed at the blanket like a cat would a cushion to make it more comfy before plopping down and closed her eyes heading straight off to a nice little cat nap, Jack blinked for a second as he sat there unsure exactly as to what had just happened. He sat there in silence with a blank expression about his face with his hand gently holding Lucy's paw, then feeling a light squeeze he looks down to see the Lucario's partly opened eyes gazing up at.

“Don't speak rest your safe now!"

He whispers to Lucy, her muzzle opening as if to say something but she didn't have the strength so just closed it again giving a weak smile before drifting back off to sleep again. Jack smiles tenderly running his hand along her fur covered cheek as she slept deeply wondering just what exactly could have happened for her trainer to do such a thing to Lucy let alone abandon her like that, she was a kind loving Pokémon even if she hadn't been there was still no justification for what had happened.

It was a good twenty minutes until his team returned with his smart phone, Blaze and Oni where doing their best to ignore each other as they flanked either side of Bunny, it was obvious they had been having one of their normal arguments about some trivial little thing but knowing them like he did they would most likely calm down and make up again long before what remained of the day was through.
