Chapter 7 - Stone Enforcers ltd.
Amanda finds herself back in Brazil going to yet another company in supposed cahoots with LNV. Afterward, she finds herself approached by the manager of her department and asked to avoid any further missions.
A few weeks later, Amanda returned to her recently drained, cleaned office. Her furniture appeared smaller now as she stood 780cm. She sat on the floor again, tacking away at her keyboard. Next, Stone Enforcers ltd. Was the mare’s thought.
As the mare combed through her organization's database. She found Stone Enforcers to have an HQ based in Brazil. Quickly she dialed their number.
“Greetings, Stone Enforcers ltd. Stephanie speaking.”
“I’m looking for information on a client related to LNV.”
“I'm sorry, ma'am, we cannot hand out information about our clients."
This again. The mare thought. “I’m an Indagator from the Nostrum Organization. My number is 69420666.”
A few clicks later and the receptionist spoke up again. “Ah. Very well, I’ll take a look.”
After a few minutes of silence, Amanda spoke up. "Are you still there?"
“Yes, ma'am." The receptionist quickly answered. "I'm afraid I can't tell you anything about LNV."
“Hmph. I have a document showing you carved out a cave in the middle of the Amazon rainforest for him. Do you know anything about that?” The horse lied.
“Uh.” The receptionist hesitated. “I’m afraid that document must be forged.”
“Forged?” Amanda furrowed her brow. “It has your credentials on it. I can run it through my organization to verify it.”
“I don't think that'll be necessary, ma'am."
“Why not?”
“It's forged, ma'am."
“I understand that but will need to run it by my organization to believe it.” Amanda remained levelheaded.
“I'm telling you, ma'am, they'll just say it's forged."
Amanda paused momentarily. "I can't believe that until someone's verified, it was. Tell me, ma'am, why are you so insistent that it's forged? Did your company forge it?”
“Uh, no Indagator. I have under good authority that the document is forged.”
“And who’s the authority?” Amanda questioned.
“I cannot disclose that, ma'am. I'll need to be going now. Have a good day." Click.
Hmm. Amanda peered at her cellphone again. Something’s off. The mare thought. Time to make another visit. Again, the mare found herself in Brazil.
“Excuse me, I need information on a client.” Amanda placed her badge down.
The receptionist looked up at the giant horse, then peered at her badge.
She swallowed. “You must be the Indagator.” The receptionist’s voice was soft. “Am I under arrest?”
Amanda shot the tiger-anthro a quizzical look. "I can't arrest people who have nothing to do with magic. That's the police's job."
“Oh.”
“Can you give me whatever information you have on LNV? I know it was part of a cartel.”
“Will we have the police knocking down our doors anytime soon?" The tiger solemnly responded, staring at her desk.
Amanda studied the receptionist closely. She made out the tiger to be in her early twenties. With a sigh, she responded. "No. What will happen first is an investigation by the normal authorities."
“Will I be arrested?”
The mare sighed. “Most likely not. Now can you get me the information I requested?”
“Yes, Indagator."
“Just call me Amanda.” The mare responded.
“Yes, Amanda."
The tiger replied with a few tacks on her keyboard and a phone call later. "Someone will be down momentarily.”
“Thank you," Amanda answered. But before she could depart, the tiger spoke up once again.
“Is it true one Indagator can destroy an army?”
The mare tilted her head and narrowed her eyes. “It depends on the size of the army.”
“Like a hundred men?”
“Yes.”
“Cool.” The tiger muttered under her breath.
Amanda stared at the tiger, her brow raised.
“Ah! You must be the Indagator.” A tall lion-anthro approached her.
“Yes.” She haphazardly responded.
The lion peered at the receptionist. "Ah. You must forgive her; she's never seen an Indagator. She tells us she's always wanted to be one, but her parents stopped her."
Amanda slowly nodded.
“Now, if you please, follow me." The mare followed the lion, perplexed by the tiger's comment.
Amanda stooped over as the lion took a seat inside a spacious office.
“I’m told you wanted information by someone going by LNV?”
“Yes.” The horse affirmed. “I know he’s connected to cartels of some sort. I also understand if you didn't know he was connected to them. As the last company, I spoke to didn't have a clue."
“Well, you're not wrong, Indagator. We had no clue we were carving out a cartel's headquarters. The blueprints we were handed resembled a comfy little mess hall complete with some sleeping quarters. Nothing seemed out of place.”
“With exception to it being in the middle of the Amazon rainforest.” The mare interjected.
“That part caught us as odd.” The lion motioned with a finger. “When we asked our client, they refused to elaborate, so we terminated the operation. But it wasn’t until-”
“Someone higher up gave it the go.” Amanda interrupted.
“Yes. How did you know?” The lion tilted his head, peering at the mare.
“Last company I spoke to told me the same story.”
“Ah.”
“Hmm.” Amanda crossed her arms. “There might be more going on in this case.”
“What does that mean for us? Will we be shut down?" The lion worriedly asked.
“I can't make any promises if you'll be shut down. As it's outside my jurisdiction. But, I'd advise you to do an investigation of your higher-ups. There might be some corruption going on."
The lion nodded. "Thank you, Indagator."
As Amanda left the building, a warm buzz extended from her torso and exploded outward. Oh fuck. The mare thought. Her height immediately ballooned from 780cm to 900cm. The rest of her body followed suit, ballooning to even more outrageous sizes. Quickly, the mare peered under her cloak, worried their milking cups would begin dripping again.
With a sigh, the mare was relieved to find her milking cups still firmly attached. Then, with a single glance at her car, Amanda realized she could no longer fit. Instead, she found herself capable of carrying the vehicle like a grocery bag. Holy shit. Amanda’s eyes grew wide with shock at her newfound strength. It took the giant horse the same amount of time she drove to return to her organization.
“Excuse me, Amanda." A tall male centaur spoke up just as the mare entered the Indagator branch.
“Taliss, what is it?” The mare responded.
“Your height is drawing lots of attention.”
The horse let out a frustrated sigh. “I know.”
The centaur slowly nodded. “People are starting to grow afraid of you.”
The horse stopped, her eyes wide, as she felt a slow iron rod build up in her gut.
The centaur carefully studied the mare’s face. “You seem to understand what that means.” He paused. "Indagators like yourself don't have very positive press coverage. The media tends to cover things that fail to go well. Given our bloody history.” The centaur maintained eye contact with the mare.
Amanda slowly nodded.
“As the person in charge of the Indagator branch, I’m going to have to ask you to stay off missions until you can figure out how to control your-” The centaur hesitated. “growth. Otherwise, if you continue to get bigger, it might alight an ancient hysteria of our hunters.”
The mare clenched her fist. “Understood.”
“Thank you, Amanda, you're one of our best Indagators, and I would rather not see you tried and sentenced to prison just because of some history.”
The mare's fists clenched, but she remained silent, her eyes simmering.
“Now, if I understand correctly, your growth doesn't just make you taller right?" The centaur asked as he pulled out a clipboard hanging on his flank.
The mare breathed a sigh. “Yes.” Her shoulders slowly relaxed.
“I don’t know for certain, but from what I've gathered, it affects your genitalia, correct?" The centaur shot the mare a quizzical look.
The mare nodded.
“Do you know if it’s related to your leviathan-gene?”
“It’d only make sense if it was.” The mare responded, levelheaded.
“I was afraid of that.” The centaur searched through his clipboard. “Our scientists are looking into the manner, but if I read your file correctly, your gene is stronger than usual, correct?"
“It’s unnaturally strong.” The mare responded.
“Hmm. Well, we've taken information from all across the globe comparing your leviathan-gene to the others, including my own. Yours appears to have some interesting features.” He paused. “One such feature suggests your gene to have been building.” The centaur stopped.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” The mare asked.
“We aren’t sure what to make of it yet. But our scientists tell us it can suggest your gene might have a history.”
“What sort of history?”
“We haven’t a clue.”
The horse shook her head. “All right.” Her voice remained steady. "Is there anything else?”
The centaur flipped through his clipboard again. “Yes, the annual Indagator ball will be happening soon. You are expected to be there.”
Amanda blinked. “I was just told I needed to be out of the public eye, and now you're telling me I've got to go to a ball which the public is invited to?"
“Yes, you see, the public won't fear you as much since you are not in their cities.”
The mare rolled her eyes. “Of course.”
The centaur smiled. "I don't expect you to wear anything because of your current situation, but I expect you to wear some fancy cloak."
The mare sighed. “Fine.”
“Very well, have a good rest of your day Indagator.” The centaur waved and trotted away. Amanda watched and saw the giant mass that was the centaur's balls sway. The centaur’s caparison, while covering it, couldn't hide its enormous outline. The same was true of his sheathed horse-cock.
