Wings Of Fire-Fighting Conquest CH 8
Triple hitter today!
Sunny looked around for Starflight, walking down the halls of the academy. She wondered how raising a dragonet here would work, Starflight could handle the egg before it hatches, the library is quiet enough for that, and she could handle it during some of the work days, but she mostly spent her class periods walking amongst her students. Everything would have to change when they hatch, it would likely take a lot of their time to take care of the little dragonet, which conflicts with the other students. She heard Tsunami’s voice from the meeting room, and paused just out of view to listen in.
“Alright, so the last staff is on the nightwing island, Starflight, you said you would have to go.” She spoke.
“Uhm… about that; there’s been a change of plans.” He replied.
“What change of plans?” Tsunami asked.
“We can cover them; I don’t really want to go to a battlefield covered in the remains of my ancestors anyway. But I do want to learn about where my mother grew up.” Moon piped up.
“Starflight? What’s up? Are you okay?” Tsunami ignored Moon.
“I’m fine, completely healed, but… uhm.”
Sunny walked into the room, and smiled at him. “Tell them.”
“We can’t really go on any trips anymore.”
“Why?” Clay asked
Uhm, yeah…. She’s…..” Starflight’s voice turned tiny. “Pregnant.”
Everybody but Moon and Qibli froze and looked at Sunny. Tsunami was dumbfounded, and Clay looked like he had been struck by lightning. Riptide walked up and nodded to the couple.
“Congrats.” He spoke.
“I… uh… what? Huh? Really?” Tsunami stuttered.
“I’m pregnant, we just found out.” Sunny replied calmly
“WHAT?!?” Glory shouted from behind them. “I’m gone for TWO WEEKS AND you get PREGNANT?”
“Nice one.” Deathbringer nodded to Starflight, who blushed.
“Glory? What are you doing back so soon?” Tsunami asked.
“She’s here to talk about next years rainwing dragonet group.” Clay told her, “But this is more important.”
Glory and Tsunami rushed over to Sunny, then pulled her and Moon out of the room to talk with, leaving the five males in an awkward silence.
“So, you guys will be having the first dragonets hatched in the academy.” Deathbringer spoke.
“Uhm, yeah, I guess.” Starflight replied.
“I was wondering about how that would work.” Qibli added.
“We don’t really know either.” Starflight admitted.
“We have some news too, but I don’t want it to overshadow yours.” Deathbringer told them.
“Go ahead.”
“Glory and I are getting married, in two days.”
“Nice.” Riptide smiled.
“Congrats.” Clay told him
“Saw that coming.” Qibli smirked
“I am so, so sorry.” Starflight replied.
Everybody looked at him, then burst out laughing.
“Why are we here now?” Sunny asked Tsunami.
“Because, there are some things we need to talk about.” Glory told her.
“You’re pregnant?” Tsunami asked.
“Yes, is there a problem?” Sunny replied.
“It would make sense.” Moon sighed. “Haven’t you noticed her moods this last week?”
“I thought that was because of the whole incident.” Tsunami replied.
“That too, but mostly me getting in heat.” Sunny replied, embarrassed.
“Sandwing season isn’t for another month.” Tsunami replied.
“I’m a hybrid, I don’t have the same stuff apparently.” Sunny shrugged.
“We need to have a serious talk about how this is going to work.” Tsunami replied.
“What about it? I’ll teach until the week before I lay the egg, then I’ll go back to teaching after a few weeks. Starflight and I can swap, and we don’t have to worry about the dragonet for year.” Sunny replied, “I thought you would be happy.”
“Sunny, I am happy for you, don’t get me wrong. But you’re going to be the headmaster soon, and that’s a lot of work.”
“What, did you expect me and Star to not have any kids? That sure wasn’t going to happen. And what about you? You’re practically forced to lay eggs.”
Tsunami blushed. “Yeah, but they will have a whole palace, and I might have to wait a few years.”
“I’m an heir too, if you haven’t forgotten.” Sunny replied, then shook her head. “I don’t know why were debating this, I’m pregnant, keeping the egg, and there isn’t anything you can do about it.”
Moon laughed. “She got you there, it really isn’t your decision. Though I am deciding that I want eggs soon as well.”
Sunny smirked, and Glory’s face started to break into a smile.
“Also, big news, I’m getting married in two days.” She spoke.
Sunny smiled brightly. “Finally, I never thought I would get married before you.”
“Hey, being a queen is hard.” Glory told her.
“But marrying the love of your life isn’t.” Sunny replied
“I can confirm that.” Moon smirked.
“My mother’s doing all the work for me.” Tsunami added. “I figure your kingdom has some tradition.”
“For their queen marrying a nightwing?”
“Mix in some nightwing traditions, since you’re their queen too.” Moon replied.
“You make this seem a lot easier than it is.” Glory groaned. “And were also getting off topic?”
“What was the topic again?” Sunny asked.
“You, and your egg.” Tsunami told her.
“What about it?”
“Any name ideas?” Moon asked, I’ve been trying to wrack my brain.
“I found one, but I’m definetly going to use it, boy or girl, as long as Starflight likes it.”
“What is it?” Tsunami asked
“Eclipse.” Sunny replied sheepishly.
Moon facetaloned. “How have I not thought up that one?”
“So, here’s the thing, since Moon and Starflight are cousins, both of them have animus magic from Darkstalker’s sister, Whiteout. This means that they both can have animus dragonets, and they are immune from Jerboa’s spell. I heard that Peacekeeper also contains the dormant gene, as well as the entire seawing royal family. So that includes you Tsunami, and all of your siblings. There is also a possibility that the lack of animus magic will activate dormant genes in the icewing royal family, along with certain nightwing lines. Michael said he’s going to start building protection spells around the school, and there’s a possibility of building a whole town around us. We have a rise in power approaching, we need to learn all we can because more and more nightwings are being born under full moons. Starflight’s powers are incredible, and he can teach others, but animus is a different story.” Sunny gasped for breath.
“That’s a lot of information.”
“Misty, the dragon that is summoning the titans, is of a family line that has control over elemental power, we don’t know exactly how many people have this ability, and Michael’s pretty vague about it. If this egg…” Sunny looked down at her belly. “...has animus genes, then I want to make sure he or she knows how to use them, and what the danger is. But I also want them to be protected from others, and those who would want to use them.”
Trice walked into the room, and noticed the group.
“She told you huh?”
“How did you know?” Moon asked.
“I can sense things, just as my father, who told her she was pregnant.” Trice shrugged
Moon shook her head. “Alright then.”
“So, who’s going to the night kingdom?” Sunny asked
“I can go with Qibli, after the wedding.” Moon offered, “Then Winter and Lynx can take the stone staff, because I want nothing to do with that place.”
“Alright, and that leaves the dark.” Tsunami replied, “I was planning on sending you and Qibli, but I doubt you would like a battlefield filled with the bones of your ancestors.”
“Yeah, pass.” Moon replied.
“So, who should go?”
“Maybe we can send Blue and Cricket, give them a little break.” Glory offered.
“Yeah, Michael said it’s not guarded, but he would accompany them.” Tsunami nodded.
“Well, okay then, I think I want to go eat some… mangoes?”
“Cravings” Tsunami replied “You’re going to have them.”
Sunny shrugged. “Yeah.”
“Are you excited?” Moon asked.
“Very, I can’t wait to see my egg, or eggs.”
“How many you think?” Glory asked.
“Probably one, but I might get three, if I’m lucky.”
Tsunami nodded, and they walked out of the room, they walked back to their boys, and were met with them talking and laughing.
“Uhm, did we miss anything.” Tsunami asked
They froze, and looked over at the girls. “Miss what?”
“Why are you laughing?” Moon replied.
“Were friends, we laugh.” Qibli replied.
Michael walked into the room, and looked between the two groups. “Uh, okay then?”
“Nothing, nothing.” Sunny smiled
Michael shook his head. “Hey, if you talk with Sundew at all, don’t bring up her mother.”
“Belladonna? What happened?” Moon asked.
“She laid an egg, Sundew’s pretty mad.” Michael replied.
“Why is she mad?” Clay asked
“Because she feels like her parents are trying to replace her, since she isn’t planning on passing her genes.”
“Oh, is she really doing that?” Sunny asked.
“All signs point to yes.” Michael replied.
“Wow, that sucks.” Sunny replied.
“Well, I’m here to escort Blue and Cricket to the Infernal Battlefield in three days.” Michael replied. “Since the wedding is tomorrow.”
Everybody nodded, and separated to go back to their sleeping caves. Sunny fell against Starflight, and sighed happily.
“Aaah, I like this feeling?”
“What feeling?” Starflight asked.
“The feeling of being full of life, life that you gave me, thank you so much.”
“You… you don’t have to thank me.” Starflight blushed.
“But I do, without you… I would have never had this.” Sunny placed a paw on her belly.
Starflight smiled brightly.
“I’m so glad I’m able to do this for us, for you. I’m proud to give you children.”
Starflight blushed and stammered. “I… ah… uh. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
“Night Sun.”
“Night Star.”
Deathbringer sat on the alter, Michael was in front of him, Riptide and Starflight were behind him. He realized that they had been spending a lot more time around each other as Glory and Tsunami are freaking out over Sunny. Sunny and Tsunami were standing a little way in front of him, smiling brightly. Sunny looked tired, but happier, even Tsunami was smiling. A bell rung, and Deathbringer turned to see a very pink Glory wearing a large white dress. He had always imagined this with her, and was now very excited to enter this new chapter of their lives. Glory walked up and stood in front of him.
“Alright alright, everybody wake up!” Michael shouted at the rainwings in the back. “There was a request to make this quick, because nobody appreciates my ceremonies.”
There was some light chatter, and Starflight snorted.
“This also doubles as a coronation, and I don’t want to hear any complaints, all those who object, can eat lemons.”
Some laughter, and Glory flashed Deathbringer a happy smile. His heart melted at the sight, she looked so happy, and that made him content.
“Glory, do you take Deathbringer, as your mate and husband, and as your king, for life?”
“I do.” Glory replied, then added “For some reason.”
Michael chuckled. “And Deathbringer, do you take Glory, as your mate and wife, and as your queen, for life?”
“I do.” Deathbringer nodded.
“Then I pronounce you equals, in life and in soul, husband and wife.” Michael nodded. “Now meet, the King and Queen of the Rain and Night kingdoms”
There was a loud cheer, and a bunch of rainwings tossed petals into the air. Glory and Deathbringer smiled and waved, before rushing off of the tree platform.
Sunny laid on the tree platform, and watched the celebration. She smiled to herself, and laughed as she watched Riptide dance with Tsunami. Starflight was talking with his parents, who had fully moved in with each other in the nightwing village. Sunny smiled as she saw Farsight’s gaze leap over to Sunny, and a massive smile spread across her face. Sunny blushed as Mastermind also turned and gave her a proud smile. Farsight hugged Starflight, and nuzzled his snout. Mastermind hugged him as well, before the three of them walked up to Sunny.
“Hey.” Farsight greeted her.
“Hi.” Sunny blushed and smiled.
“Can I… hug you?” She asked.
“Sure.”
Farsight wrapped his wings around Sunny, hugging her tightly. Sunny squeaked, but enjoyed the feeling. Starflight was smiling, and nuzzled against Sunny’s snout, which was the only thing visible.
“Congrats you two.” Mastermind smiled.
“I’m going to be a grandma!” Farsight exclaimed excitedly.
Sunny blushed harder, still being hugged.
“Thank you so much, for loving my son, and being his wife, and giving him children.” Farsight spoke.
“You’re welcome, thank you for caring about him.” Sunny replied.
Farsight nodded, and stepped back after a while. There was an awkward moment where nobody said anything, then Riptide rushed up and smiled at them.
“Come on Starflight, lets get hammered.”
“No, I’m not going to be drinking.” Starflight shook his head.
“Go on.” Sunny smiled.
“I won’t do that too you.” Starflight replied.
“Go have some fun, I’ll just go to our room” Sunny insisted
“Are you sure?”
“I’m sure.” Sunny nodded.
Riptide grabbed him, and they ran off into the party. Sunny walked out off of the platform, and flew back to the palace. Glory had given them permanent guest rooms, and Sunny fell into her bed, and sighed. She could feel the growing pressure in her belly, and couldn’t help but feel excited for her future.
Michael?
Hey
Am I okay to lay eggs? I’m smaller than normal dragons
You’ll be fine.
Sunny sighed, and smiled. She closed her eyes and allowed herself to fall asleep. She woke up when Starflight stumbled into the room. She kept her eyes closed, but felt him nuzzle against her belly. He paused and sighed, and Sunny resisted the urge to open her eyes. She smiled to herself as he held his head against her belly for a while, before laying down next to her and falling asleep.
Sunny woke up when the sun hit her eyes. Starflight was curled around her, with a wing covering her protectively. She looked over and smiled at his sleeping face, and untangled herself from him. Starflight just mumbled something and stayed asleep, so Sunny walked out to enjoy some time in the rainforest. She found Kinkajou, and joined her for suntime.
“Hey.” The excited rainwing greeted her.
“Hi” Sunny replied.
Kinkajou looked over at her stomach.
“I take it Glory told you?” Sunny smiled.
Kinkajou nodded “Congrats.”
“Thanks.” Sunny replied.
“You excited?”
“Very.”
Kinkajou smiled brightly, before her face fell slightly.
“What is it?” Sunny asked.
“Well… I’ve been thinking… about the future.”
“What about it?”
“What am I going to do after I graduate?”
“Oh, whatever you want to.”
“But…”
“But what?”
“I want to marry Turtle, he asked me a few weeks ago.”
“He did?”
“He called it a promise, that we would get married.”
Sunny smiled at her. “I’m happy for you.”
“But, I’m worried.”
Sunny’s face fell. “Worried about what?”
“He’s a seawing, and I’m not, by marrying me he is forced to stay away from the sea. I don’t want to do that to him.”
“He loves you, and wants to stay with you.” Sunny replied
“I know, and I want him with me too.”
“Then he will be perfectly happy with you.”
“Anemone and Tamarin mentioned something about living at the Summer Palace. But I don’t think I really want to do that.” Kinkajou sighed.
“He’s likely willing to live here in the forest, if that’s what you want to do.”
“I kinda want to… teach” Kinkajou blushed.
“Oh?” Sunny replied.
“Yeah, and Turtle might too.”
“Have you asked him?”
“I asked him what he wants to do in the future, but we got off track when we talked about dragonets.” Kinkajou blushed more.
Sunny laughed. “You want them?”
“Yes, unlike most rainwings, I actually want to raise my dragonets.”
“So does Orchid and Mangrove” Sunny replied.
Kinkajou smiled. “I like to dream about it.”
Sunny nodded, and Kinkajou yawned.
“Might just do it now.” She added.
After a few minutes, Kinkajou fell asleep, and was snoring lightly. Turtle walked up and smiled at them.
“Hi” Turtle smiled.
“Hi.” Sunny replied.
“I heard the news.”
Sunny looked over at Kinkajou, and Turtle laughed.
“Yes, I did learn it from her.” Turtle told her.
Sunny got up and stretched, then turned back to Turtle.
“I heard your news too.”
Turtle blushed. “Oh?”
“She’s worried about you not being at the sea kingdom, about living here, or at jade mountain after you graduate.”
Turtle nodded. “I know, but the only way I can convince her is to show her.”
Turtle laid down next to Kinkajou, who smiled and cuddled against him.
“We will see what the future holds.”
