As such, those who were familiar to the area knew well enough to stay out of the forest, fearing for their own safety. However, every once in a while, someone who was unfamiliar with the legend of the lavender Forest would wander into it and end up disappearing just like the others.

On one afternoon in early May, a human male from the US happened to be on a two-week vacation to Japan and had heard about the lavender Forest and its legend. One of the locals (who could speak English) tried to warn him about what happened to those who entered, but he did not believe it. He thought that it was just a superstition and that there was no such things as "demons". As such, he decided to take a trip into the forest and see for himself.

Upon arriving, he noticed that there was a gentle breeze blowing through the lavender colored leaves, warming him from all sides as he slowly wandered through them, taking pictures along the way. Nothing seemed to indicate any danger to him, as it seemed there were no animals, not even insects, around in this forest. All there was inside were the trees as well as pink-colored grass with scattered white flower blossoms all around. The forest that they were in was merely a "trap", devised by the female espeon to get the attention of travelers. The sweet scent that the forest produced was actually a combination of her pheromones and the aroma of maple syrup, altered in a way that was designed to attract human males instead of other pokemon. The lavender Forest was a temporary extension of the spirit world into the mortal world, allowing the female enough time in the mortal realm to find a new mate and return to her permanent home. There were also several berry bushes, all of them constantly producing fresh berries that were edible to humans (since pokemon spirits did not require food). There were also fields of rice and wheat, just as the female had promised, that could be harvested by humans to make food. Meanwhile, as they stepped into the spirit world, the lavender forest once again disappeared and the woman who had tried to warn the traveler earlier simply said "I told him not to go in there, but no-ooo-ooo, he had to go exploring! I told him there was a demon in there, but he didn't believe me! Well, I'm sure he found out the hard way now, didn't he!" (in Japanese).

What she did not know though was that the traveler was in a place where he could live happily for the rest of his mortal life. The female espeon had what she wanted, and would remain loyal to him, helping him catch fresh fish to eat, and assisting with gathering berries. All she asked for in return was his companionship...and lots of sex. However, they weren't the only couple in this realm. There were other humans (males and females) who were lured into the realm by other pokemon spirits...all of whom had experienced the ultimate bond that a pokemon could have with a human and sought eternal human companionship. Within a matter of days, the human male had set up a small house near one of the streams within the infinite expanse of the utopian spirit realm. However, after a few weeks, the couple set out to explore the realm a little more since the female espeon knew that there was a lot more to see within the realm. The place where they built their home was only a small part of that.
