Story by Z-JAM-C on SoFurry

, , , , , ,

Another year has passed, as Oddclaw takes some time to return a long-owed favour as well as relax with the family on a nice little vacation. But of course this is one raptor who just can't catch a break, whilst the others cannot resist the chance of a whole new adventure by themselves.

So this arc is gonna be fun since it focuses right on the raptors this time! Hope you all enjoy some real family bonding for this chapter~

Field Research - Salvage Retrieval

12-04-2034

Recorded by Dr. Kevin Izquierda

I remember the first sci-fi movie I watched as a kid. TMNT, a crazy story about four mutated turtles trained by a wise old rat in martial arts. Somehow working at T.E.A.R is even more crazy than that, and even when I was a kid I would never have imagined getting to talk with dinosaurs and learn things from them! But this week has been very eventful, especially for me! Another group of otherworldly people came down with some crazy plans for world domination! I know it sounds like a comic book but Dr. Dixon and Maj-Gen Brightman's reports will support what I say.

A mad doctor called Plague Knight kidnapped me for his own ends to assist in some terrorist acts. I refused of course whilst his partner in crime, Mujoe who's from a different world than him, constructed a giant robot to fight off my friends. During this, two heroes from their separate worlds called Shovel Knight and Bomberman teamed up with Maj-Gen Brightman and our friend Oddclaw to rescue me and put an end to their operation. I started out a damsel in distress, and ended up a hero when I disabled their giant robot with some polysulfide solution.

After we captured the two leaders, two of the Plague Knight's minions came over to join the T.E.A.R wanting to break free from their former cruel boss, and they so far have been wonderful help in the lab! Their names are Ribose and Adenine, which is going to make asking for those two chemicals confusing so I just call them Ade and Bose, and their knowledge of chemistry is exceptional! I don't have to worry about training them at all once I explained the basics of our recycling prowess.

We also got ourselves a huge haul with the scrap metal that Mujoe left behind in his abandoned steel base beneath the Skylands, something we decided not to send back with its owner when we could utilise it as a hideout/port across the sea. The amount of stainless steel, spare parts and supplies inside alone will be a big help for us.

Field Research - Pteranodon Surgery

18-04-2034

Recorded by Dr. Kevin Izquierda

I never thought I would write those two words together, but Oddclaw asked me for a favour that I could not refuse. During his travels, he fought an enormous pteranodon who is considered the greatest warrior of his tribe, but in the struggle he broke one of his wings brutally. Whilst collecting materials beneath the Skylands, Oddclaw asked if I could be able to repair his wing and I admit I had never done veterinary prosthetics in my life, but I was not going to say no when we had plenty of materials to spare.

Dr. Addison helped me having experience with animals better than I and she remembered quite vividly the times in her zoo days when bats or birds needed some help in repairing damaged wings. It also made a good field test for Ade and Bose as my new laboratory assistants to help, though the fact we had to operate in extreme altitude made things quite a bit more difficult from the cold and lesser oxygen. Also, you know the first thing a heavily-sedated animal does? Loses bladder control, which was something Dr. Addison thankfully warned me of or else I'd never get the smell out of my legs for weeks!

The operation was a surprising success, thanks to some incredibly durable light alloys from the Otomakas ship from a year ago for the wing prosthetics. It took a lot of convincing for Maj-Gen Brightman to let us use supplies on non-personnel, but Oddclaw gave a very passionate defence on how important this one great-winged beast was to the stability of his home, which considering he's only known English for five years is pretty damn amazing! Plus, considering all the help he has given us and the fact we are basically invaders to his world and causing more danger to his environment with our Third Energy stuff, it became rather difficult for Brightman to argue. Maybe I should teach Oddclaw Spanish sometime.

"He's waking up."

The grand-winged Suneater slowly blinked his eyes open after a confusing sleep. A dreamless state from the odd sweet gas that had been pumped to his nostrils as he roused himself, with Oddclaw standing in front of him.

"How do you feel?"

"I...i-i-i feel sleepy."

"Let yourself wake up first. Can you move your wings?"

He carefully flapped his wings looking left then right with quickening astonishment. His formerly-damaged limb had now been retrofitted with by unusual steel lengths and a synthetic fibre that mimicked his membranous fleshy wing. It felt stiff but he could move it well, lifting it up and down with shock and glee.

"I...I-i can...I feel my wing again!"

"Try to fly here first, we do not know if it works yet."

The Suneater braced himself and flapped his wings steadily to lift his body up from the craterous home of his kin, gasping from their rookeries as their great warrior was once again claiming the sky as his own domain with his shadow growing over their faces. The stiffness began to fade, and despite the slight uneven weight compared to bone and steel it felt miraculous.

"I can, I can fly! I CAN FLY AGAIN! OHHHH, OHHH I CAN FLYYYY!"

"HE CAN FLY!"

"HE CAN FLYYYYYY!"

"Is that good?" asked Adenine.

"It is!" cried Oddclaw. "He is happy he can fly, and they are happy too!"

"OH, good, I was worried he was whining about his new wing."

With Kevin, Jane and his two new assistants watching the mighty quetzalcoatlus northropi take back his place amongst the clouds in a smooth circular drift, the beast soon landed once more a little clumsily, staggering but correcting himself as he almost wept in tearfelt joy.

"Th-the wing is...a little stiff but I-i cannot believe I can fly again oh, hunter you have repaid a wonderful debt to me and my tribe!"

"It is only fair," said the raptor nodding, "I am glad my friend Stoneleg was able to heal you."

"T-tell him, thank you. Th-thank you, you are now and shall always be, our dearest friends."

The giant pteranodon waddled forth and leaned down to nuzzle Oddclaw, Kevin, Ade and Bose in one sweep, moving his large beak back and forth with deep chittering noises amidst the crying cacophony of elation from his people. The elder matriarch stepped from her nest and croaked an utterance to quiet them before speaking:

"I would never have thought that a hunter would repay us with such kindness. But you and your odd friends have formed a bond with us that shall not be forgotten. To Oddclaw and Stoneleg...I thank you, as honorary members of our tribe."

She made a submissive posture which almost resembled bowing with her wings splayed as the others around her did the same. Kevin was shocked by this, but not as much as Jane who was deeply awestruck by the roaring adulation of the entire colony before them.

"Th-this is unbelieveable," she muttered.

"I know," said Bose shaking his head, "they got such weird beaks like how do you EAT with those?!"

"Um...r-right, I guess."

"Are we all done here?" asked Kevin leaning forwards.

"Yes," replied Oddie, "they are happy and his wing feels good. We can leave now."

"Great, my head's starting to fly away from my body and I really need to feel the ground under my feet so we'll just go, buenas dias guys!"

The flyers gave a crowing farewell to the group as they headed into the Petrie, the strange alien ship sticking out of the crater's surroundings like a diseased zit. They sat up in the quarters as the pilot and co-pilot chatted to each other.

"Would be fun to fly with these guys alongside us," said Ted.

"Why?" asked Elaine.

"Well I mean it...be like the end of Jurassic Park where all of them fly alongside us, except yanno if they're our friends they definitely won't attack us."

"I don't like flying creatures near us Ted, they cause turbulence."

"Well at least there's no engines for them to get sucked into, that always sucks." The male copilot started flicking the first few switches so they could take off faster. "You ever wanna fly one of them one day, like on their backs?"

"No," said Elaine, "I never even ride horses. I don't trust something with its own brain."

"Then why'd you marry me?"

"Because I think for you Ted."

"Wow...hm, what a pisser, hmhmhaha."

They smiled fondly shaking their heads whilst their passengers settled in and the ship lifted off from the high altitudes with little problem. The squabbling sounds of winged beasts frightened by instinct of the beastly sleek vessel accompanied the roaring engines as they flew back down towards the Hunter's Nest.

"So, you off home now Oddie?" asked Jane sitting down.

"Yes," he replied lying on a bed, "my family are worried, they do not like when I come and go too much."

"I understand. I suppose I'll see you next year or so hmhm."

"Oh, no I will see you soon. You are always welcome to come, if you ray-dee-oh me first."

"I will, maybe come sooner with the Petrie."

"OH, yes, but please do not fly your ship over our-"

"I know I know, I remember last time, your leader forbid us after the uh...incident."

They both blushed from the time that happened, a rather unfortunate frantic scene of chaos that would not look out of place in a European comic book that they would rather not remember as Oddclaw nodded:

"Yes...so, please do not fly near our home again."

"I won't, I promise," Jane said with a hand of scout's honour, "the airspace above your forest is strictly off-limits."

"What happened with the ship?" asked Ade.

"Do not ask," muttered Kevin.

"Wha-c-come on you can't just allude to that, we need to know!"

"No you don't, trust me."

"Let it go Ade," said Bose shrugging, "we'll figure it out sooner or later."

"What happened to no secrets?!" said his friend raising his sleeves. "I won't be able to focus on my work thinking what the hell happened!"

"We nearly lost our eggs," said Oddclaw turning his head grimly. "The ship flew too close, it sent eggs rolling to the lake and we very nearly lost some of our children, it was a terrible thing and I do not want to remember it so STOP asking Ade."

The hooded chemist rubbed his neck with the awkward cringe shared by Jane and Kevin. Bose sucked in through his beak as Adenine muttered:

"Wow um, jeez I-i was really hoping that was some funny story you were just too embarrassed to talk about."

"It is not funny," instigated Odd, "that is why the ship never comes near our home again, not over the forest."

"Wha-like not even hundreds of meters above?!"

"No."

"A-alright, sorry..."

He kept himself quiet for the rest of the journey.

Field Research - Organic Chemistry: Metal Strengthener

29-05-2035

Recorded by Dr. Kevin Izquierda

My research from the previous year concerning the polysulfide-based flora has allowed us to reverse-engineer it into the opposite effect. Whereas it would undo traditional bonds in metal usually, our team has now created a metallic strengthener which reinforces mineral composition by means of a compound synthesis! We applied it to a metal cup and it took three hammer strikes to break the damn thing, it was even almost bulletproof which is exceptional!

Despite having no real enemies in this world, the recent upset of these anomalies have given us the need to strengthen our armoury and since we do not have any real means of increasing our offensive measures apart from recycling ammunition, we can only increase our defence instead. At the very least, with our new fleet of boats and our one airship, we are much more braced to deal with any incoming enemies of future anomalies, along with Oddclaw acting as our unofficial scout of the south regions to keep an eye out for anything...well, odd.

He has been one of our greatest assets, I only feel bad we end up dragging him into our problems when really they are more to do with us than him. But he is a good person, or raptor rather, his anatomy still is something we have no idea how that happened even. He is a mystery we may never solve without knowing the truth of his father, someone that he himself always wished to know more of. I can sympathise, having never known my own father either but I am glad to see he is no longer letting that define him as it first did when we met.

"Here we are."

Barkclaw stepped out from the trees towards the open beach. Far to the southeast of the Hunter's Nest, beyond the Dry Mountain was the largest shoreline this side of the continent. The waves crashed upon the beach in the dead of night, a gentle lull marred only by the sea and buzzing songs from the large insects around them. A soft wind caressed their scales as Oddclaw stepped out in front of his brother, inviting him onto the sand.

"We are coming here tomorrow," said Oddclaw, "but I wanted you to see it first so you know where we will be."

"Okay," murmured Barkclaw. "Many wings here. Why are we coming here?"

"Mother wants us all to spend time together, as a family. You know how what she is like."

"Oh."

The mute-coloured raptor trotted over towards the palm trees and sniffed them, relieving himself by one of the trunks with a long heady stream of urine. This was a good sign for Oddclaw as he waited and let him wander around to explore the nightly shore to get a feel for the environment. The waters lapping along the sands gave a soothing sensation to both raptors, taking time to enjoy the scenery with the moon high in the sky much bigger than usual.

"Look, Barkclaw the moon, a greatmoon!"

"...ooooh."

He waddled over to where Oddclaw sat, staring up at the huge white orb that gleamed amongst the stars.

"Moonclaw told me," continued Odd, "that every one-and-a-half cycles, the moon comes close to our world."

"Why?" asked Barkclaw.

"It is...it flies around the sky, but swoops in close around this time."

"Oh...yes, that makes sense. Can we mate now?"

"OH, do you still want to?"

"Yes. Do you want to?"

"Of course I do! Let us move to the grass, I do not want sand on my cock."

Moving back closer to the grass amidst a cluster of trees, the brothers began their ritual of gently touching each other through licks and caressing claws. Slowly Barkclaw became used to the touching enough to reciprocate, growing a firm steady erection from his cloaca with a deep rumbling of pleasure. Oddclaw turned hard much quicker, thickening nicely as he frotted his cock against his brother's with creaking groans along their flesh.

The anthro kissed his feral brother's lips, smooching the snout and tasting the breath from his nostrils now flaring at the heady whiff of musk they both began to radiate. The larger raptor slurped across Oddclaw's face before trying to kiss him once more, his snout awkwardly turning to open and allow his brother in with a deep suckling embrace. Thick drool leaked from between their teeth as shuddering breaths exchanged from one throat the other, gasping sweetly before they pulled back with a thick line of saliva.

"Do you want to mount me?" asked Oddclaw.

"Um...I-i want...you inside me."

"Oh, really?"

"Y-yes...please."

"Hmhmhm, alright, stand over here then."

Moving his brother a little back, Oddclaw stood up onto a large stone to line himself up with Barkclaw's rear. Grasping his tail steadily to let it hang partly over his shoulder, he pushed himself in slowly as Barkclaw relaxed his rear muscles to give him passage. The shuddering gasp that rattled through their bodies briefly intensified their pleasure as Barkclaw flexed his muscles, rippling walls clenching awkwardly to try and feel his brother inside him.

"A-aaah, hhhh-"

"Am I hurting you?" asked Odd stopping his thrust.

"No...please, more."

With one hand on the tail and the other on Barkclaw's hip, the anthro pushed himself further watching his thick cock sink inside the smooth scaly rump. Gentle hissing from Barkclaw as a slight discomfort in his anal tunnel gave a sense of heated friction, but he started to adjust eventually. It wasn't the first time Oddie had fucked his rear, though it was more common for Barkclaw to fuck him in retrospect. Not that either of them minded since it came down to whatever Barkclaw preferred that day and was comfortable with.

Slowly but surely Oddclaw managed to nearly hilt himself with calm careful inches before he felt the curved base of the tail press against his crotch. Kissing along his brother's tail, he stroked along it back and forth during his thrusting as Barkclaw mewled with growing bliss, pushing himself back against the meaty pole to feel it deeper inside him. The slapping of scaled hips across the empty beach amidst buzzing wings and the shimmering shore gave them a feeling of serenity, closing their eyes and chirring as Oddclaw started fucking harder.

"H-haaah...aaaah B-barkclaw...ohhh your vent feels good."

"M-mmmph...I...l-love your cock."

"I know you do...ohhh I would fill you with eggs if I could my sweet brother."

"R-really? I...I love you, Oddclaw-a-augh HAAAAA-NNNNNGH!"

"AH! MMMPH!"

His brother tightened up in exquisite ecstasy, suckling the sturdy 10-inch cock that struggled to almost fit as he pumped harder, tails quivering with anticipation as Barkclaw started leaking his hot pre. Splattering thick drops onto the grass, his legs buckled slightly from his anthro brother stuffing his hole again and again, reaching almost to the 9th inch and back out halfway to slam once more inside. In the midst of testosterone he leaned forwards and bit down upon Barkclaw's back in a fit of dominance, firm but only barely breaking the skin as hot creamy milk poured from Oddie's cock to slather across his feral sibling's walls. Ridged anal muscles sucked stronger in flexing as they felt their climax peaking, with Oddclaw first to cum by flooding his brother's insides in thick heated jizz.

"A-AAAAH, AAAAH BARKCLAW, OHHH!"

"NNNNGH, H-HAAAAH, B-brother please, f-fill me!"

The swelling fill inside his ass made Barkclaw spurt soon enough, with a little help from Oddclaw jerking him by the hand to make him shriek and shoot hard onto the dirt. Soil became muddy with raptor seed, twitching muscles in their legs as their cocks spasmed deliciously before finally they ceased. Slowly pulling himself free Oddclaw left a trail of white drooling from his flared head to the thick cloaca as they sighed breathless.

"Hhhhaaaaaah that felt good."

"Yes," panted Barkclaw. "Mmmmm...your seed is warm inside me."

"Not as warm as your seed is inside me, I think you make more of it than I do!"

"Really?"

"Yes..."

Oddclaw bent down to suck his brother's cock clean, slurping his sweet tongue along the bulbous meat before slobbering on the head to get the thickest taste of his musky jizz.

"Mmmmmmph...delicious."

The two sat down to relax against the trees, watching the shoreline against the grand open sea in the midst of a deep blue night. Barkclaw noted something as his head twitched seeing a small swarm of insects act strange within the fronds of the palm tree.

"That is odd."

"Hmm?"

"Those...nightwings...they do not come out here."

"They do not?" asked Oddie.

"Some...something brought them here."

"What do you mean?"

"They do not come here unless...something brought them here."

"Maybe they like you."

"No...no that...the wind will change soon."

Oddclaw felt a sense of something creep along his spine but put it down to his brother being strange in his own way as they soon went back to their home to prepare for tomorrow.

"ODDIE ODDIE!"

"COME ON ODDIE THERE'S LOTS OF PINCHIES!"

"NONONO NO, NO DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT YOU TWO!"

The sisters ran cackling along the sands as Oddclaw hurried after them, the raptor family relaxing out on the beach in the glowing morning sun. Barren raised an eyebrow towards her youngest children who trekked hard and fast, scouring the shoreline with snouts close to the sand.

"Be careful Sandrunner!" he shouted. "The sea will come close!"

"He's right!" cried Leafrunner. "If you fall into the sea, you'll be gone forever!"

"Pfft no I won't," retorted Sand, "Oddie fell into the sea and he came back!"

"I was lucky to survive!" snorted Odd. "You may not be!"

"I am ALWAYS lucky, now shut up and let me focus on this pinchyyyy-e-eeeeeAAAIIIEEE!"

The wave came crashing on her face as Sandrunner staggered back to fall on her rear with seaweed covering her face like a gorgon. Both brother and sister laughed at her as she smacked the weed off her face and tossed it on top of her siblings who shared it as one wig. On the other side of the beach, Eggfang was accompanying Barkclaw and Moonclaw in investigating the curious critters on the palm trees further inland where the grass grew in scrubland.

"They smell different," said the elder sister.

"What do you call this?" asked the grey-ashen female.

"A sandwing?" replied Barkclaw a little inquisitive. "But the wings are deep, why would they be?"

"Why do the wings matter?"

"It cannot hide well in the sand. ...OH, it must live in the shade."

"But we already have shadewings," replied Eggfang sniffing closer at the bug flickering upon the palm's trunk. "Maybe it buries into the sand to hide itself like a stone."

"It might," mumbled her brother, "this one is different from others back home."

"Do you ever eat these things?" asked Moonclaw peering over his shoulder slightly.

"No. Why would I?"

"I thought they might be tasty."

"No, they are not, I do not know how this one tastes. I watch them."

"Ahhh...um, why?"

"Hmm?" Barkclaw turned his head halfway to look at her with the unscarred side of his face.

"Why do you watch them? I never asked that before."

"They tell me things."

"What...sort of things?"

"Things we cannot see. Hear. Feel."

"Oh...like, how the wind changes?"

"Yes."

"That is why you are the great scout," said Eggfang with a knowing smile leaning towards his sight. "The things you learn from your small friends surpass even what the leader's scouts can learn."

"They are not clever," replied Barkclaw, "the wings and crawlers do things because they sense things...the things they do, tell me what is going to happen."

"Such as?" asked Moonclaw.

"The wind will change its direction to north."

"Wha-h-how do you know that, the wind is heading west!"

"I told you, the wings tell me."

The females looked at each other confused before Eggfang decided to go and relax beside her mother whilst Moonclaw laid down fascinated. The long-toothed raptor stretched herself out over the sands watching Oddclaw struggle to control his sisters who were hurriedly sniffing out crabs on the shoreline.

"Are you not going to stop them?" she asked Barren.

"Mmm?"

"You know they will not listen to him, yes?"

The leader of the family reared up her head and barked a sudden shout that echoed across the shoreline frightening the three she faced. The twins whimpered at her look and started to settle themselves whilst Oddclaw waved back to her.

"I am glad alpha let us leave together," continued Eggfang.

"A family is free to come and go surely," said Barren laying her head back down to snooze. "Leaffang's family went and enjoyed themselves on the plains."

"I was worried that alpha would have become fearful of letting others leave since Eyeclaw's journey."

"He is not our leader because he is fearful. That is something he has left in the past."

"Oh?"

The mother raised her head to look blearily at her eldest daughter. The sun slanted off her sand-pale head.

"Do you not remember when we escaped the hairless' lab with Oddscar?"

"N-no," muttered Eggfang, "what happened?"

"Alpha's fear gripped him...but it was not his fear, it was...something the hairless had fed him, I do not know how but they changed him. He took cycles to undo their fear from his mind, so I would hope he turned stronger for it."

"Ah...hhhhhmmmm I wish Fishclaw were here to enjoy this."

Eggfang sighed and scratched the sand between her thick-footed claws, savouring the warmth of the dusty granules between her firm smooth scales.

"It is a shame we could not bring his family with us."

"It is," repeated Barren, "his children are wonderful, but they are still young and a place this great and far from home would frighten them."

"We survived when we were their age."

"Yes but that was not because I wanted it. It was a time of necessity Eggfang, not pleasure like this-"

"There."

Oddclaw's feet came tramping along the sands before he sat himself down beside his mother and sister.

"Sand and Leaf are now too busy to deal with pinchies."

"How do you know?" asked Eggfang.

"I told them I hid something special over there in that grass, they will be hunting everywhere and away from the stonefish."

"Hmhmhm, clever."

The anthro flumped his back straight onto the sand letting the heat seep into his scales with birthmark shining in the sun. Barren smiled at the unusual way he lied with arms behind his head.

"I love this place," he said looking towards his mother, "it has been cycles since we came out here."

"It is good to finally come as a family again," she replied, "and thank you for not bringing your fire or noisy stone with you."

"I told the hairless I am with family and I will not be disturbed. I am here with you and they are not allowed to come."

"Good."

"I was just telling mother," said Eggfang raising her head past Barren, "how sad it is that Fishclaw cannot join us."

"Yes," agreed Oddclaw, "I wish he was here too but he cannot leave his children."

"Are you planning on a family Oddclaw?"

"Hmm?" The anthro sat up with hands pressed into the sand to look over at his sister. "What do you mean?"

"Do you have anyone in mind to have children with? Maybe a certain female that helped you travel back to us?"

"Wha-...M-m-moonclaw?! No, no no no she is not interested!"

"Do you know that?" asked Barren.

"I do," he insisted, "please stop asking about us, we are friends!"

"A male and female do not stay friends Oddclaw, trust me."

"Moonclaw is different!"

"Why would she not mate with you?" The mother sat up fully with a curious smirk in her eyes. "You are a good fertile male."

"She has her reasons mother, I will not ask."

"Hmmmmm..."

"If you want to be a grandmother you have Fishclaw for that-"

"It is not about ME Oddclaw," she stated firmly, "it is about you finding your own family, you want to be a father yes?!"

"I do, yes of course I do!" he blustered.

"And you like Moonclaw, I know you do because your scent changes around her."

"I do like her, yes!"

"Then what is the problem?!"

"I do not know! She does not desire me that way."

"She is not too old for you is she?"

"No!" insisted Odd. "Wh-what is it with you females being obsessed about having children, why do you not tell Eggfang the same thing mother?!"

"She does Oddclaw." Eggfang leaned even closer to rest her head on her mother's shoulder. "The only one she does not tell this to is Barkclaw."

"What?! Why not him?!"

Barren gave a look of condescending words unspoken. The son began flaring a scent of insult and muted outrage until Eggfang distracted them with a sudden bark.

"EVERYONE, E-EVERYONE CAN YOU COME HERE PLEASE!?"

The call sent the other four raptors straight towards them, stopping short with claws buried in the dirt except Barkclaw who simply trudged following behind Moonclaw.

"We are going to have a little play-fight against each other!" began Eggfang.

"OOOOH!" squeaked Sand and Leaf like cheerleaders. "PLAY-FIGHT PLAY-FIGHT TIME TO FIGHT!"

"What sort of play-fight?" asked Moonclaw.

"One on one, we split up and see who can beat us all. Moonclaw can be part of this too, I will step back and judge who wins each fight."

"Oh, that sounds fun, I would love to!"

"Now, Sandrunner and Leafrunner will fight each other. Oddclaw and mother you are next, and Moonclaw, if you would like to try against Barkclaw?"

They looked at each other's opponents with grinning anticipation, with even Barkclaw getting rather intrigued as his tail started to shake. Moonclaw grinned at him in return and stepped up in front of him as they spaced themselves out from the other fighters to give their battles breathing space.

"Would you like to play-fight?" she asked him.

"Yes," he said with eyes shining, "I like to play-fight with Oddclaw."

"Well then you can sharpen your skills on me so you can show your brother what you can do!"

"Yes!"

"Are we ready?!" shouted Eggfang as her family lined up to their opponents across the beach. "Fight each other until I say stop, then I will move you round to fight another. ...ready?! FIGHT!"

Oddclaw braced himself into his standard fighting stance against his mother who stood grinning with a dominant scent surrounding her. The peerless sun skimming on their backs seemed to excite the raptors into a short frenzy as they charged at their opponents. Barren swerved past Oddclaw's lunge to give a playful bite on the back of his neck, pulling him slightly as he turned and tried to pull her in a headlock. But she learned from last time and ducked out fast from his reach before latching onto his arm and tugging him down to the dirt.

"Ah ah ahhhh," she chirred, "I am not THAT slow yet."

"Hmph, not yet you are not."

"Indeed, I am NOT!"

She lunged for him with a flying leap, not as high as other raptors could but still enough to surprise him as he dodgerolled to the left and shoved his mother down with a hard shoulderthrust. He latched himself on top of her as they rolled but Barren was quick to not be underneath as she booted both feet into his stomach, sending him off to her side with flaccid member swinging out above them. Pushing himself up off the ground he waited for her next move as the mother dropped her head low to slam forwards in a hard slamming shove, but Oddie jumped over her to land thick on her back in a bodycrush as she shrieked from surprise.

Barren flailed frantically with a cackle before grabbing Oddie's tail that hung close to her mouth and pulled him fiercely back to dislodge him, causing a tumble between them as she tried to jump on top of him once more. He rolled faster than her to put some distance between them as they got back up, sand coating their bodies whilst circling each other and licking lips with anticipation. The mother rushed low before making a flying leap, trying to trick her son with a kangaroo kick that slammed out both her feet across the top of his skull. He managed to evade her with just a few scratches down his face, countering back with a hefty but harmless double slap across her face, smacking both palms on each of her cheeks to stun her briefly with dulled hearing.

"NNNGH! Y-you, wha-DHFFF!"

Oddclaw made a bold move by grabbing her in a headlock and throwing her back hard to swing her entire body out, tossing her like a hammer towards the sand as she rolled and staggered with surprise. She laid low and still to lure him out, with no sign of movement as he raced towards her with worrying eyes before Barren made her next move.

She struck the sand with her tail to blind him before leaping up and launching herself on top of him. Barren went for his throat with open maw to force her son to surrender, but he grabbed her jaws as spitting drool languished along his claws which curled between her teeth. Her snarls were playful, trying to overwhelm him but his sturdy arms kept her at bay before he reached up one of his legs to scratch at her belly and thigh in such a way as to get a grip on her flesh. His other leg did the same in preparation.

"Gie uhh yuh?!" she slathered from her tongue.

"You...d-did not raise a weakling did you?!"

"Ah huuh nuh, hhhhnhnhnhnhuhuhu-YURHH!"

The young raptor shoved both his claws down upon his mother's knees forcing her back down his body with an extra push from his hands to her snout. Wrestling her down to straddle on her chest, he lunged for her neck with teeth pressing onto the skin but never penetrating her scales as she fought and kicked with scraggly sounds vibrating from her throat. His smaller body helped keep out of reach of her vicious hindclaws, his semi-flaccid length draped across her chest as he waited for her submission. But she was far more wily than he anticipated, noticing her son's cock hardening from the adrenaline of battle as she jabbed one of her weak front arms towards his foreskin to prick against his glans sharply.

"AAAAGH!"

"HAH, SILLY CHILD!"

With her opponent forced to yelp and release, Barren lunged for his neck and pulled him down hard with a firm set of jaws he could not escape from, her grip much more powerful than his as he shuddered and panted in desperate attempts to pull himself free. She tightened further with practiced restraint, choking the breath from his larynx as his voice became hoarse and trapped. He flailed his arms at her face trying to force open her jaws but they clenched hard giving a small sense of fright to him.

"STOP!" cried Eggfang. "Play-fight is over!"

The mother let go of her son's throat, snickering as he rubbed his tender neck with a nervous smirk before helping to pull her up.

"Thought you could trick your old mother hmmm?"

"W-w-well, I tried, almost did," he said chuckling breathless.

"Hmhmhmhm...I am glad to see you are still the hunter I taught you to be."

"What else would I be? Hmmm?"

"I have to say," said Eggfang trotting forwards, "you held out against mother well!"

"Really?"

"She caught you in the end by exposing your weakness, BUT I was impressed by the way you forced your claws against her teeth in defiance!"

"I was too!" replied Barren smiling full teeth. "You are the only beast I know that can withstand these when they are out."

"And as for our other fighter-WHA-SAND, LEAF WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!"

They turned to see the twin sisters covered in bloody bruises, teeth marks and scratches dappled on their skin with horrific countenance as fresh red spilt across the sweet sands.

"What?!" cried Leaf.

"I SAID PLAY-FIGHTING WHAT DID YOU DO?!!"

"Um YEAH, we heard you sis!"

"This IS us play-fighting!" squawked Sand cheerfully. "We're the best at it!"

"Not like you all," added Leafrunner, "none of you are even bleeding!"

"The POINT of play-fighting," insisted Eggfang, "is to test your strength in a safe place without drawing blood!"

"UGH that's so BORING!"

"Yeaaaah yer boring!" nattered Sand derisively. "You gotta fight, you gotta make 'em BLEED if you don't wanna die!"

"Right!"

The twins headbutted each other with goofy grins smothered in each other's viscous red, giggling as Barren chided them with a stern snort.

"When we are play-fighting do NOT draw blood from each other, I would rather you two not kill each other like the morons you are!"

"Pffft relax mother!" chided Leaf. "We done this fer cycles we just clean each other off an' we're ready to go!"

"We're the BEST at hunting!" chirruped Sand. "That's how we always kill what we hunt for, every time!"

"Even that oddhead the cycle before?" said Oddclaw with petulant smirk.

"SH-SHUT UP, the sun was in my eyes!"

"It so wasn't," murmured Leaf.

"WHA-LEAAAF!"

"Hey it was your fault!"

"YOU DIDN'T CATCH HIM EITHER!"

"Alriiiight!" said Eggfang with piercing eyes and a frigid bark. "We know that you two are of equal strength and fearless...to a fault, now Moonclaw and Barkclaw, how did you two do?"

She turned towards the ash-grey female and the motley-coloured male. Both had a similar amount of markings on them, a few more scratches on Barkclaw along his stomach and waist, but Moonclaw only had a raking set of teeth marks along her neck.

"Hmmmmm...seems my brother won, Moonclaw."

"He did!" replied Moonclaw humbly. "He is quite fast, I did not expect him to be."

"She has strong claws," muttered Barkclaw, "she scratch me, everywhere but I beat her with my jaws."

"You make a good hunter, you are precise and patient which can always beat strength in the right moment."

"Th-thank you."

He looked away nervously but she smiled nonetheless, licking off some of his wounds in kindness as he flinched before remembering himself. Oddclaw took over instead and began to clean him with his tongue, lapping at the larger raptor's belly for the slightly deeper wounds before moving over to Moonclaw's neck.

"Ohoho what is this?" she chirred.

"Wha-huh?"

"Not even a hello from you, you just come right up and lick any female's neck?"

"N-n-n-no, I jus-"

"Hhhhmhmhmhmhm, it is fine I am teasing you."

Oddclaw blushed which made the twins giggle behind him, as well as a look between Eggfang and Barren with knowing nods before something made their heads look up.

"Wha-...what is, d-do you smell that?"

The mother's question of slightly nervous anticipation made the rest of them sense a strange burning sensation. A warmth of the air, a shifting wind, a roasting scent that seemed to come from the sky itself.

"It was right," said Barkclaw.

"What?!" asked Oddclaw.

"The wings, over there by the tree. The wind changed like it felt it would."

"Are you serious?" gasped Moonclaw staring wide-eyed at him. "I cannot think tha-"

"LOOK OUT!"

The water swelled violently before parting in the middle, turning the wide ocean into a sweltering canyon of waterfalls before the beach. A shadow loomed above it from something invisible, the crackling sparks of lightning flashing in broad daylight as the raptors backed away with fear at the charring scents. A scent that Oddclaw recognised with horror. Cold fire.

"GET BACK!" roared Oddclaw.

"Wh-WHAT IS IT?!"

"I SAID GET BACK!"

Forcing them away as far as he could, the world exploded before their eyes in a matter of minutes when something landed upon the ocean with the force of a meteor strike. Roaring waves flooded the shoreline reaching halfway up the beach as the raptor family scrambled with sand kicking up beneath their feet, reaching towards the forest that hugged the coast in hiding. The tsunami briefly shook with great bellowing force as crustaceans scattered and rolled across the wet darkened sand. The chaos soon stopped, and after a few minutes of checking everyone was safe, the raptors peered from out the bushes.

"...what...h-h-how did...that-"

"It...c-can any of you see that too?"

"Yes...but I wish I did not."

Looming before them within a few feet of the beach itself, was a beautiful island stretched out before them many miles wide with waterfalls rippling down ginormous mountains. Thick teeming jungles canvassed the land between cragged uniform ridges as well as some unusual buildings with slanted roofs or sharp triangular dunes.

"A-another land?" said Eggfang quietly.

"Is this the h-hairless' doing?" muttered Barren.

"I do not know," said Oddclaw turning towards his family. "But it must be another visitor."

"Another?!"

"Remember the hairless last cycle, the Earthclaw? He was from far away, from the stars."

"Oh not this again!" barked his mother with stomping feet. "I do not want you to turn into Eyeclaw!"

"I am not, I have seen it! The hairless can tell you the same!"

"I do not CARE what the hairless think, they are not our tribe and they are delusional morons!"

"They are not morons!"

"I WANNA EXPLORE!" shouted Sand

"I WANNA GO SEE THE NEW PLACE!" cried Leaf. "Can we go, can we mother, please please please!?"

"PLEAAAAAAASE mother I wanna go see the new place!"

"N-no, NO!" ordered Oddclaw. "I have to tell the hairless about this, they need to know!"

"Awwwwww but Oddiiiiiiiie!"

Before he could walk off however, Barren strode out in front of him to block his path, turning to face her son at her fullest height of 7 feet to intimidate him.

"What do you think you are doing?" she said.

"I have to call the hairless."

"Ahahaha...no, I do not think so."

"What?!"

"This is OUR home, Oddclaw. OUR family, and they have no right to come here."

"B-but, that, that land is not part of our home!" He swung his finger out towards the island with brazen eyes staring her down. "They have to deal with this, it is nothing to do with us!"

"That land appeared in OUR territory, it touches the sand and therefore is part of it!"

"Mother I do not want to fight you, please let me through!"

"I have no desire to fight you on this...so stand, DOWN."

Her teeth came out with rippling snarl in her throat. But Oddclaw tightened his fists and growled back as Eggfang stepped up with authority in her voice.

"Oddclaw, she is right."

"Wh-what?! Not you too!"

"The hairless have no right to be in our territory, and that land, even if it just appeared out of the sky, is in our territory and IS therefore to do with us."

"B-b-but, we do not know what is there, what if something dangerous is there?!"

"Are you saying your family are weak?!" challenged Barren.

"NO!" he cried back.

"Then why are you so fearful of exploring, did the hairless take your courage from you too?!"

"STOP BLAMING MY FRIENDS, THEY ARE NOT THE SAME HAIRLESS THAT HURT YOU CYCLES AGO!"

His shriek echoed across the shore as his mother swept her head to the side and walked off with unflinching aura. Eggfang took the role of secondary leader to make a suggestion.

"We are a family," she began, "that means that we all must decide on what we wish to do. Those of you who want to go home and have Oddclaw call on his hairless friends, speak now."

Oddclaw was joined by Moonclaw in barking their vote.

"Those of you who believe we explore the new land as a family capable, speak now."

Sandrunner and Leafrunner chirruped with enthusiasm, along with a confident bark from their mother and a muted voice from Barkclaw, which surprised Oddie as he looked at him.

"...r-really, you as well?!"

"M-mother is right," said the brown raptor flatly, "it is our home, not the hairless'."

"See?" said Barren turning to her sons. "Even your brother thinks so too, now will you trust in your family?"

"I-i trust you all, of course I do!"

"Then what is the worst that can happen on this new land, if a tribe of filthy weak-fleshed warmbloods can fight these 'starbeasts' then this family CAN!"

"WHOOOOOOOO!" shrieked Sand. "WE GONNA GO EXPLO-OOOORE, WE GONNA GO EXPLO-OOOORE!"

"I wanna find NEW pinchies!" chattered Leaf. "What if they have new fish there, OOOOOH Fishclaw's gonna be so maaaad when we tell 'im what he missed out on!"

"Then it is settled," replied Eggfang turning towards the mysterious island. "We are off to the new land to explore and face new challenges, as a family."

"YAAAAAAAAAAAAY!"

The twins headed off with fleetest feet, cackling all the way as Barren and Eggfang followed after with smirks of confidence and Barkclaw trailing behind sullenly. He gave an apologetic look towards his brother who stood with Moonclaw in shock.

"Imbeciles," he murmured, "they do not know what they will be fighting."

"Neither do you," said Moonclaw stepping up beside him.

"I have fought starbeasts and THEY have not, they cannot understand-"

"Oddclaw...please, you cannot get angry when they have decided to do this. The best thing you can do now is to accept their choice and follow them."

"I-i know, but-"

"Use your mind not to fight them, but to protect them with what you DO know of things they do not."

"I just...I just wish mother would listen." He scuffed the sand with his feet in a struggling kick of frustration. "I have seen these beasts, I have fought them and STILL she thinks I am a hatchling!"

"Well...let her pride be her wound but protect her from its final blow. Then once you save her from whatever beasts lie there, she may finally see you as you are, hmm?"

Moonclaw slurped across his face to bring the smile back to his face, nibbling below his cheek as he started giggling.

"Hmmm, hmmm?!"

"Hahaha-a-ah alright alright, I-i will do this...I will...do my best."

"You always do. Now come on, let us go stop your family from making a mistake."

"Yes...thank you, for choosing my side."

The grey raptor chirred a sweet chuckle as they headed off to follow the family in its tracks, facing the other shore which mercifully had created a sandbar of sorts to allow the raptors to walk straight across the shallow ridges and onto the new world.
