Marcia Blackthorne knew she had a reputation. And, if she had to be honest, that reputation was not undeserved. She had clawed her way up the ranks of her company, helping rivals get ‘disappeared’. It didn’t lose her much sleep. They were predators like her; they would have done the same, had they taken the initiative. Or else they were nobodies standing in the way of progress. She wasn’t a scientist herself, but she knew how to direct and lead them, and under her guidance and firm hand, the company’s clandestine research had yielded tremendous dividends. The raptors were simply the most promising of several projects she had running.

And yet, she was not without her own little touches of humanity. Blackthorne had never had time for a husband, wife, or children of her own, but that didn’t mean that she didn’t appreciate family. Her older sister, as simple as the woman could be, was well loved by Blackthorne, and so was her sister’s only daughter: Blackthorne’s niece, Letra.

So it was that, even when she was in her office with several important tasks lined up for the day, Blackthorne didn’t hesitate to answer the call. “Hello Letra,” she said, feeling affection for the younger woman. “How was the campout?”

The executive’s warmth diminished as her niece’s voice murmured something incoherent on the other end of the line. She sounded dazed and unready. “Letra? Are you okay?” she pressed.

Letra simply mumbled something back before the line died, but Blackthorne was nothing if not a decisive woman. She would go and pick up her niece herself.

Her vehicle was expensive, but also versatile. It had four-wheel-drive and easily handled the dirt road out to the campground. All the while, Blackthorne made several calls on her phone. Just because she was picking up her niece didn’t mean she couldn’t work. Multitasking was a habit of the successful.

But as she pulled up to the campsite, the woman’s heart brimmed with worry for her niece. The campsite was ransacked and there were no signs of any other vehicles or campers. What had happened here?

Getting out of her car, she swept the site and quickly found Letra curled up outside a zipped-open tent. The young woman was naked, her clothes in tatters, and looked as if she’d had a night of rough sex. A veritable pond of cum, some of it half-dried, was around and underneath her. A tiny bit of fluid was still trickling out of her womanhood.

“Aunt Marcia,” Letra said, blinking up at her. “You came…”

Blackthorne helped her up onto her shoulder. “We’ll get you to a hospital,” she said.

“They left me… Jenna n’Mercedes… it was all a prank…”

Blackthorne’s cheeks burned with anger. Those witches would regret doing this to her family!

Buckling Letra in the backseat, Blackthorne took the wheel and drove back, phoning the company to both send someone to clean up the campsite and also to do some digging into this ‘Jenna’ and ‘Mercedes’. But as she was about a quarter of the way to the hospital, something happened.

In the backseat, her slumbering niece’s eyes snapped open. “Ah—ahhn, ahhhhhhhhhn!” she keened out. “Oh, oh g-god!”

“Letra?” Blackthorne called back in alarm. “What’s—”

She cut off, astonished, as her niece clutched her stomach in fear. It was… it was swelling, over and over, her niece leaning against the car door and clutching it desperately. The seatbelt quickly strained to contain it.

She looked pregnant.

“The—the e-eggs…” Letra said, her voice soft and whimpering. “The… dinosaurs, yellow and blue…”

Recognition snapped in the executive like a whip. Yellow and blue dinosaurs… could she have meant the escaped raptors?! Had her own escaped subjects mated with her niece?

“Right,” Blackthorne said. “We’re taking you to my lab.” Letra could only whimper.

By the time she got to the lab, her niece was too pregnant to move. Letra could only just clutch her swollen stomach, heaving long, shallow breaths. Her tummy was red with sudden strain, as were her cheeks—though from the tender whimpers her niece sometimes gave off, Blackthorne suspected that her cheeks were red with arousal as much as stress. Technicians and doctors bustled out, having been alerted when Blackthorne phoned ahead, and they supported the college student as they led her into a medical room. Blackthorne stood on the other side of two-way glass, arms folded behind her back, as her niece laid dinosaur eggs.

Letra’s voice arched piercingly and trembled with obvious orgasm as she laid egg after egg. Her cheeks were burning red and her eyes half-lidded; for the moment, she had nothing on her mind other than unburdening herself of this unusual weight. One of the technicians grabbed the first egg, ran it through some machines, and then made his way to the back room. “Ms. Blackthorne,” he said deferentially, “the subject—I, I mean, your, uh, niece…”

“On with it,” she said tersely.

The man swallowed. “Well. The thing is, uh, the eggs seem to be duds. They were placed in her by an outside source, as if she was an incubator, and then swelled dramatically once they absorbed nutrients…”

Blackthorne nodded, her mind racing. “See to it that she healthily delivers the rest of the clutch,” she said, “and then place her under round-the-clock care. Scan each egg to ensure that each is a dud. If she wakes before I return, tell her I’m doing things to help her and will come back as soon as possible.”

The technician nodded. “Will do. Erm, ma’am, if I can ask, what are you…?”

Blackthorne’s eyes were icy as she stalked away. “Why, it’s time I checked in with our scientist friends. The raptors mating with humans? It seems that some material was left out of the initial report…”

Fran was still queasy and unable to rise, and Alain had taken the van to the nearest town to get groceries. Bells was dozing at the foot of Fran’s bed; the German Shepard had taken to hanging around Fran a lot of late. Perhaps she thought that mothers-to-be should stick together.

That left Z and Sarah all alone—and Z’s heart raced. To be frank, he still stung from Rebecca. Her betrayal had been sour beyond belief. But Sarah had helped him through that… and bizarrely, their unwanted trysts with the raptors had led them both to each other’s arms. Sarah’s newfound drive and confidence were much appreciated as well.

Why shouldn’t he be confident too?

Steeling himself, he walked out to the lodge’s common room where Sarah was reading to give Fran some privacy.

The scientist glanced up as he approached. “Oh, hello Z. What’s up?”

“Sarah,” he said, and then stopped. His voice sounded dumb in his ears. Foolish. What was he doing? He was just the intern!

He shook his head. Now wasn’t the time for doubt!

“I know that Fran’s taken up your room,” he said. “And Alain is gone, so mine is…” he trailed off, ears burning. “Um. What I mean to say. Is.”

Sarah rose, eyes bright, smile touching her lips. “Why Zachary,” she said teasingly, “are you inviting me to your room?”

Okay, scratch that. His ears weren’t burning, his whole damn face was. “I, um… yes.”

Her laughter was like tinkling bells. She draped her arms over his shoulders. “I thought you’d never ask.”
